This Drakkin city was built within a cliff face within the mountainous Serpent's Spine, just beyond a large crescent-shaped crevice west of the Blightfire Moors -- the namesake of Crescent Reach. It is a fully functioning city with guildmasters and spell vendors for every class, tradeskill vendors and venues, quest NPCs for people of all levels, as well as bankers and merchants.

North of the city is a magical grove which plays host to the six dragons who make up the Circle of the Crystalwing. These dragons were responsible for the creation of the Drakkin, something done in an effort to protect all dragonkind from growing threats, particularly that of Venril Sathir, who was responsible for the recent curse upon the Nest.

The crevice in front of the city, known to locals as The Hollow, stretches north far beyond the city boundaries. The area is teeming with wildlife, from bears, spiders and snakes on land; to piranhas and alligators in the waters. Further north is a group of undead. They are the Nokk: The ogres who ruled the area in an era long ago, cursed by the gods into the state they are today, still minding their farm and wandering their burial grounds.

I hate this. I hate being crammed here. I was an old school OG player. I stopped when most people of that time did. I came back in the last week or so with everyone on lock down.

I did the gloomingdeep tutorial, I tried to get into it. There was action, questing and even some light skill up. ok. Then I realized as a bard I could not find ANY instruments. Imagine buying a spell and not able to get reagents. Necros will have no problem finding bone chips here, I can not find a lute/mandolin or a flute or drums.

I got all the quests done. Except the 'augments' because the augment given to me is for a type 4 weapon +2 to kobolds... and my weapons are all type 2. No type 2 solvent can be bought here either.

Anyways I FINALLY brave leaving (for fear I could nto come back with my neutered character) and I get to PoK. I go to Queynos and buy intruments and go to Freeport and look for missing spells (Song 3?) which I think used ot be a quest?

Then some weird crap happened where my Origin does not take my back and I didnt die but logged back in and I was in blooingdeep not this city?

This city sucks. I have no investment to it. Its a bunch of snobby dragon kind people. I guess I am a refuge? But here is the thing back in the day you had YOUR city or a varoite city. Maybe you play Skyrim and you love whiterun and its ravaged in the civil war. You feel something. Its your city. This is not a place I know nor care about. I am now level 10 and this chick wants me to do a level 1 quest and go get a BOOK and READ th LORE. Lore is GREAT some people only care about the story thatf ine but dont cram all this exposition on me in quest form. I dont care if you are some kind of somethign on the council of something. I want to group up and fight orcs and goblins. wtf is this?

I assume this was done late in EQ's life to make things seem more populated because the original cities are ghost towns. It coul dbe argued *THIS* is why. This city right here. I dont want to log in and loot armor that gets e through 1-60 off a level 1 rat. Someone told me you can get from 1-65? in 2 zones. WTF who wants to do that? I dont want to be in some pretentious city of snobby *** dragon people. I also understand the game is trying to lead with the best graphics at the time but for the life of me why do I only have 4 hair selections as a half elf when these guys are clearly also like me with all this different hair?

Anyways. Its jarring and its weird. I am trying to embrace it. Its just bad design to leave the tutorial level 10 and go to a city with level 1 quests and boring diseases spiders to kill. Where am I in the world? What is my motivation? Why do I give a **** about these people and this city? Who cares. The quests FORCE me to be like 'yes I want to learn more' I wish I had the option of 'no id rather punch you in the face'

They don't want people playing in the old zones anymore. If you want to play that way, they want you to pay for a premium membership and play on the progression servers. They want everyone playing in the latest expansion so they can sell them the expansion that comes out after that. Starting you in Crescent Reach gives you access to more powerful items than you would be able to get in the old zones, which gets you leveled and geared faster so you'll be ready when the next expansion releases. It would take too long, and fracture the player base, if they didn't create a central hub for all new players to start in, instead of them being spread out across however many expansions there are now. You won't be able to get groups or participate in raids if you are still killing snakes in the Qeynos newbie yard or gnolls in Blackburrow, because nobody is there anymore, and forget raids. No guild raids, Vox, Nagafen, Phinegal, or any of the older bosses anymore. It's not worth the effort, because everyone already has better stuff than what they drop. Even the Sleeper isn't as challenging as he used to be, and he used to be unbeatable by the strongest guilds in the game for a long time. Many raid bosses can even be solo'd by a sufficiently high level player now, so you don't even need a guild raid anymore in very old content. Crescent Reach is almost 15 years old now, so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't move the starting city again, soon, because starting in the Serpent's Spine expansion is not as advantageous as it once was, given how many expansions were released since then, and how much more difficult the high end has gotten.

I must be very lucky but I do not understand the problems you have had. I made a freebie Drakkin Bard, had a ball doing all the quests in Gloomingdeep, found no difficulty from having no musical instruments. There are some useful quests in Crescent Reach, which you can sneak out and do while still in the Tutorial as long as you are under level 11. You don't need instruments to increase your Singing, Percussion, etc., just keep singing your songs. There are some hellish useful postings in here, so do read them and I'm sorry you had such a bad time, really.

I've been playing for many years now, and I've never figured out if something is supposed to spawn on the throne or near it. Is it just a random message you get when you go near it or is it for some sort of event which has passed? Thanks.

Faction Gain 'Circle of the Crystalwing'
experiance

You say 'Hail, Matrum Geerlok'

Matrum Geerlok says 'Oh Hello. Busy Busy. So many people. New people, different people, even old people. So much [work] to do. Work work work. So many things to see. And just after I [improved] on Father's work. And to top it off, such strange [ideas] running through my head.'

You say 'work'

Matrum Geerlok says 'Yes, so much work. Always a little of this and a little of that. And the money sorter that Skithnik wants. Simple. He wants simple! How insulting! But despite all that, if you help me I can give you a minor bit of [training]'

You say 'training'

Matrum Geerlok says 'The Circle of the Crystalwing have decided as a group that the best way to teach is by experience. You will be given a series of tasks that you can use to learn about the skill you are working on. When you are ready, simply tell me that you are [ready to start] and I will assign you a task appropriate for your skill.'

You say 'ready to start'

You have been assigned the task 'Simple Spring for Creasent Reach'.

Matrum Geerlok says 'Ah yes, this will be much help. Even if you think you cannot learn from this, you must do this. So much work to do. Take this. Follow the directions, and ask if you need more [supplies].'

He'll give you a stack of 20 'Thin Steel Wire'

To make a simple spring, twist a Thin Steel Wire into a spiral in a Toolbox. When you have made twenty spring, give them to Matrum Geerlok. If you need more supplies, ask Matrum Geerlok for more.

As Gnome you start at 50/300 skill... this made 18 Simple Springs w/ 2 fails <trivial 31> Deliver 20 'Simple Spings' to Matrum Geerlok

Did all four of the Tinkering Quests at the Matrum Geerlok page, so can see it there...
Or to save time just repeat this one three more times, changing it to different item to make and three things to combine in your toolbox...
And just watch in amazement as your skill goes from 50 (Gnome starting point) all the way up to 54... That's right, 4 whole points up...

There is an npc in Cresent Reach you do not have listed, Poison Master Skuk.
He is located in the tent near the rogue guildmasters.
He gives out Poison Tasks. First task was "Test This For Me, Will Ya?" Think that that task is the same task as "A Small Favor - Endoc Cron" under new name with diff steps, to do same objective, but same rewards.

Last night (10/30/08) I Found this small blue dragon flying above the wells near the skeletal orgres in Crescent Reach. It cons red to a L23 Druid but indifferent. It did not attack me and when when hailed seemed to bemoan the loss of it's eggs from the nest in the well.
I looked for the name and recieved nothing as far as quests go....
Has anyone else seen or heard of this dragon?

These days races are far less 'definitively' different. There are few major end of the game differences. However, in the beginning the iksar monk has a significant advantage in hp regen. However, the hth adjustment difference for human is negated these days as weapons are a key note to the expansions beyond say 65 or so. I understand this is several years late but maybe someone else will like the response.

I would just like to know this, and I could think of no other place to put it.
In The Serpents Spine, weapons wise, the only questable weapon in one for casters only in Crescent Reach. (Makes no sense to me, personally. Although it is a VERY nice weapon for that level.)
What about melee weapons?
The first one I see is obtainable at twenty, and it's a 36 Delay 20 Damage 1H Blunt.
Can anyone inform me of any questable 1 or 2 hand slash, piercer, or hand to hand?

with the release of the serpent's spine, crescent reach is a new starting city. any race that you make since the release can have a different starting city.

to answer your question. troll's since the start of EQ have had somewhatly 2 starting cities. Grobb and neriak foriegn quarter. but with the release of legacy of yekesha grobb was lost to the trolls thus they were moved to neriak and the dark elves allowed them to setup in their foriegn quarter zone.

but in 2005 the troll's retook grobb from the frogloks. the froglok's renamed the city Gukta.

if you have the same maps i have, in pok there are 2 stones for gukta. the one on the evil side leads to to innothule swamp (and one zone away from grobb). the one on the good side leads you to where the froglok's setup town in the rathe mountains.

hope that helps,
drago

What happens to Vah Shir Beastlords who by accident/choice end up choosing Crescent Reach as their starting city? They get a newbie scroll to turn into the Guildmaster in the Dragon's Grove there, but then have nothing with which to begin the Citizenship quest in Shar Vahl, which in effect locks them out of several low level quests they might wish to do there as well. Just wondered if Sony has a work around for them, or if once in Crescent Reach they are pretty much exiled from the rest of their kind?

Thank you so much for that tip about the Face; I had missed it completely. I spent an afternoon (UK time) tearing my hair out with trying to ascertain which dragon I was related to, because I could not be sure what colour my tattoos were - they were rather wishy-washy. I tried them all and did some very interesting quests that were new to me before eventually finding my dragon mother. Thanks again!

Be careful with regard to the elevators in the city proper. I have heard that you can lag though the floor of the elevator and fall to your death. I have also seen the occasional corpse at the bottom of the elevator. Lag is pretty bad in the zone (though not nearly as bad as Blightfire Moors) so lagging through the bottom of the lift is not inconceivable. Levitate potions (Philter of Gulon's Impunity and 5-dose postions of Antiweight) come highly recommended.

You also need to be careful traversing the rope bridges out where the dragons are. If you are not careful, or if you lag/un-lag unexpectedly, you could run off the bridge or nearby platform and fall to your death, so please be careful.

Do not try to jump up onto/though the "windows" or window sills in the rooms where the dragons are - chances are you will sail right through and fall to your death (there are ledges around parts of these buildings, and the windows are high enough up to discourage this kind of stuff - I hope).

One more word on falling. The open elevator "shafts" are sometimes hard to see if you are running, unfamiliar with the zone, or have your attention turned elsewhere. Make a mental note of where they are so that you don't accidentally drop through one of these hazards - or you'll be looking at almost certain death.

***Regardless of your race, or class, none of the drakkin npc's are kos. I explored the entire place with a gnome wizard of sulusek ro, then an ogre shadowknight of cazic-thule. Everything was indifferent, including the paladin guildmaster.***

There is apparently a newbie area of sorts on the 3rd floor, which is accessed via elevator on the second floor. Some of these mobs are kos, but they are all newbie mobs.

Hope this helps someone out!

Task: A Tapestry of Words

In cresent reach, task giver is Lawwe in Mourning. He is located up the ramp behind Historian Pewdri Location -1418.31, -1612.80.

Speak with Zhureni: Sunderock Springs Location -1517.41, 1024.02. She is located by Aug pool on my map behind the hut.

Speak with Mazzie Ro'khelm: Sunderock Springs Location -1517.41, 1024.02 Right next to Zhureni.

Speak with Y'ssuria the Elder: Crescent Reach Location +382.13, -944.68 He is a 70+ Quest giver as well.

Speak with Merchant Anji: Crescent Reach Do a find to Artisan Irisi and she is located in same area. Location -1348.50, -1574.45

Speak with Merchant Jhenner: Crescent Reach In a hut just south of Merchant Anji Location -1392.26, -1557.63

Speak with Pezripisid: Sunderock Springs Location -1160.48, +554.85. On same plateau as the other two just at other end. On my map his name is spelled incorrectly as Peripidid.

I did these 6 out of order and it was fine.

Speak with Lawwe: Go back to original quest giver. He will giver you a patchwork poem.

Deliver Poem to Valdimakir the Poet. He is located near the elevator Location -1298.41, -1571.37.

Vadimakir says Thank you so much for your help. When you speak to Lawwe again, let her know that this [reflects] well on both you and her, as well as those that raised you.

I said, reflects to Lawwe in Mourning and received another task: Tears of the Betrayed.

At 90% to level experience I received about 1/2 a blue to 3/4 a blue of experience (did as a level 72). I did this task while I was doing others in the zones so experience to me was worth it and it seems that this is a progression task giver. Along with xps I also received a faction increase to Circle of the Crystalwing.

As soon as I complete the next task, I will give more information, unless someone else has posted of course.

You say, 'Hail Council Aide Mystrana.'

Council Aide Mystrana says, ' "your name" can't yo see how busy I am with (council business)? I clearly don't have time to stand here and chat with you, but thank you for your interest in the daily business of the Council of the Six, the lords and ladies of Crescent Reach. Good day to you!'

You say, 'Council business?'

Council Aide Mystrana says, 'What? Didn't I just very politely suggest we chat another time? If you are so interested in the Scions of the Six then why don't you take a look at our (charter). That should fill you in on the basics of how our city is run. Now if there's nothing else, I will say udra to you, That means Goodbye!'

You say, 'Charter?'

Council Aide Mystrana says, 'The charter? It's in the library of course! Where else would it be?

- You have been assigned the task, "Getting to know you: The City Charter"

You say, 'Hail Librarian Hemfar.'

Librarian Hemfar says, 'Ah yes, Mystrana told me you wouldbe stopping by. Head upstairs and grab a copy of the charter. My staff just finished scribing a new set. We can hardly keep up with the number of new faces who need to learn about our fine city!'

- Get the Crescent Reach City Charter

You pull the city charter from the bookshelf and your heart begins to beat just a little faster. You feel just a bit more at home in Crescent Reach.

Mystrana is now more confident that you have a basic understanding of the drakkins' goals and plans for their city. Return to Mystrana to continue on the path to meeting the Council of the Six.

- You gain experience

You say, 'Hail Council Aide Mystrana.'

Council Aide Mystrana says, 'Well, well (your name) you are persistent. I like that! You show a genuine interest in how our fine city is being put together. As you can clearly see for yourself this city is not of drakkin origins. I would like you to (learn more) about this city's history before we speak any further.'

You say, 'Learn more?'

- You have been assigned the task, "Getting to know you: Foe those Gone before Us"

Council Aide Mystrana says, 'There is a book in a hidden room that you should study. Enter Gekkdar's Haunt on the third level and locate the hidden room. Once you have read the book you will find there return to me and I will have more to say to you. Goodday to you (your name).'

Now that you have read the book and understand it well, Mystrana feels it's time for you to meet the Scions of the Six. -- the councilmembers of the city. Go and speak to any one of them to let them know you are ready to prove your worth.

- Your faction standing with Circle of Crystalwing got better.
- You receive 7 gold.

You say, ' Hail Guard Captain Minka.'

Guard Captain Minka says, 'Alas, my mood is melancholy friend. Speak your business so I may continue to (wallow).'

You say, 'Wallow?'

Guard Captain Minka says, ' 'Tis a long story, but I suppose airing my quandary might aid me. My Heart has been besieged by a beautiful drakkin. Her name is Kamilah and the image of her in my mind drives me to great distraction. I'm meant to be the guard captain of this great city and I find I'm getting distracted. And while I would cut down any enemy without any hesitation I can't find the courage to tell her how I feel! Hm, you seem fairly brazen, perhaps you might (help) me.'

You say, 'Help?'

- You have been assigned the task "Love in the Air: Guard's Fancy"

Guard Captain Minka says, 'Kamilah is a jeweler in Artisan's row on the second level of Crescent Reach. You will no doubt recognize her beauty very easily I've been saving this gift for her until I had the courage to hand it to her. Take this to her and tell her it is from me! Oh how my spirits have been lifted!'

- Give Kamilah the flower

Jeweler Kamilah says, 'Oh, a gift?

Kamilah reads the card and the sparkle in her eye is extinguished and she starts to sneeze. 'Get this potpourri away from me! I'm allergic to those dried flowers! It figures. I've seen that guard on his patrol constantly eyeing me. More like leeriring. It makes my stomach turn. Now he's either trying to buy me or kill me? Why must the wrong (drakkin) always court me?'

You say, 'Drakkin?'

Jeweler Kamilah says, 'Yes. The one I wish would show some interest never notices me... and believe me, I do try. You seem to be willing to make a match. How about you help me and give this amulet to Herald Nexeu for me? I created it with his likeness. It's my finest work.'

- You have been assigned the task, "Love in the Air: Kamilah's Delight"

- Give the Amulet of Desire to Herald Nexeu.

Herald Nexeu says, 'For crying out loud! Why on earth would I wear an amulet that had my face on it? That Kamilah is out of her mind. Just the other day, she interrupted my heralding practice by offering me a rat cake. Arat cake! Why on earth would I eat a rat cake? Horrid. Clearly we could never be matched. I do seek a match though. You interested in a bit of (fun)?'

You say, 'Fun?'

- You have been assigned the task, "Love in the Air: Nexeu's Gift"

Herald Nexeu says, 'Well, it makes more sense for me to give an amulet with my likeness on it to someone I have eyes for, no? Indeed, give this amulet that Kamilah intended for me to the fairest drakkin of all. -- Moswen. She works in Artisan's row on the second level as a baker's assistant, but she hasn;t been at work lately... She must be somewhere in the city, can you find her?'

- Give the Amulet to Moswen

Moswen immediately recognizes the amulet as Kamilah's work. Little did Nexeu know, but Moswen is good friends with Kamilah and will surely tell her soon of wht Nexeu has done. Though her heart will be broken, Shivra said he will get his just dessertd, so to speak, with a cream pie filled with rat pellets. Why couldn't Nexeu be more like (Captain Minka)?'

You say, 'Captain Minka?'

- You gain experience.

- You have been assigned the task, "Love in the Air: Charmed, I'm sure"

Moswen says, 'He is wonderful isn't he? If you wouldn't mind, could you take this piece of cake to him for me?

- Give the Piece of Sweetheart's Cake to Captain Minka

While no heart will find its match amongst unrequitted loves, at least one wrong will be righted. Moswen has resolved to stay out of the affairs of love and will certainly have words for Nexeu should she see him again.

Guard Captain Minka says, 'Moswen is sweet but so is her cake. Sugar makes me too hyper and gives me heart palpitations. Perhaps I'll throw it away.'

- You have successfully been granted your reward for Love in the Air: Charmed I'm sure, "Kamilah's Amulet of Love"

If you'd rather just get the necklace and cut out all the running around (especially if you don't care about the XP) just find Moswen and /say captain minka. She will give you the cake to give to him. Then deliver the cake for your reward.

Task "Oh Brother!"
You say, 'Hail Disgruntled Boawb.'

Disgruntled Boawb says, 'Pffft. What do you want? Unless you have some grand advice that will help me get on the (council), go away. I'm not here for your entertainment.'

You say, 'Council?'

Disgruntled Boawb says, 'Yes, fool. The council of the city known as the Scions of the Six. I'm far more qualified and knowledgeable of my father's arts than Ithakis, my older brother. Just because Ithakis is old, doesn't make him better. Why my father Atathus, the dragon lord of fire and war, chose him is beyond me. Something must be done to right this injustice. For the good of drakkin! I do have a (plan), but I'd need some assistance.

You say, 'Plan?'

Disgruntled Boawb says, 'I have this elixir, you see. It was designed by my brother and everyone knows of it and only the drakkin of Atathus' lineage can stomach it. All know this. (Deliver) it to one of our proud council members, named Reakash -- the blue drakkin daughter of Osh'vir. She will drink it and find that her throat will burn for several days. The council will point their fingers at Ithakis and he will be thrown from the council!'

You say, 'Deliver?'

- You have been assigned the task "Oh Brother!"

Disgruntled Boawb says, 'May Atathus flames enlighten you! You have done me a great favor!'

- Give Councilmenber Reakash the elixir.

Councilmenber Reakash eyes you suspiciously as she drinks the elixir. Her face begins to go red and she clutches her throat for a moment. A soft blue light emanates from her hands and her face calms and she smirks. 'Boawb up to his old tricks again, hm? He chose the wrong drakkin to target -- my mother's powers are strong. The coolness of air and water is enough to take the burning from this elixir. I do wish he'd stop attempting to sabbotage his brother. We should all be working toward a common goal. You should as well. How about you prove your (allegiance) to us and I will let this indiscretion slide?'

Reakash was able to reverse the affects of the elixir and immediately recognized Boawb's work.

- You receive 3 gold
- You receive experience
- You receive Boawb's Crescent Buckle Belt

(not a bad belt for a low level, continue on for another nice prize)

You say, 'Allegiance?'

Councilmenber Reakash says, 'Very well, tell Boawb all went according to plan and tell him that I showed great anger toward Ithakis, his brother. Tell him I gave you this potion to give him as a recognition of him as a true and fair representative of Atathus. Encourage him to drink it. All (clear)?'

You say, 'Clear'

- Take the potion for Boawb.

- You have been assigned the task "Reakash's Revenge"

Councilmember Reakash says, 'Off you go. You are about to get a lesson in just desserts.

- Give Boawb the potion.

(this is funny, I won't spoil the surprise)

Disgruntled Boawb says, 'I don't feel very well...

Reakash certainly got her revenge and you got your reward. Everyone wins except Boawb.

- Your faction standing with Circle of Crystalwing got better.
- You receive 1 platinum.
- You receive Reakash's Purifying Mask (another nice prize for a low level)

If you are standing on the bottom tier where there are 3 forges (normal forge, big burning BBQ pit, normal forge) where the guy who gives you the mold is, its the forge on the left.
