This is a non-repeatable task for bards and rogues. It begins with Petty Thief Kessrala at location -480, -1205 in Crescent Reach (next to the Necromancer guildmaster).
You say 'Hail, Petty Thief Kessrala'. Petty Thief Kessrala says 'Well, well _____ . You have grown strong. now listen up. You are old enough to learn how to pick locks. You will have to go and buy some lockpicks from Merchant Kaphiri and make sure you've trained your skill high enough with your guildmaster first. I happen to know there's a door in the Jade Dragon's Den that the owner likes to keep locked. Take your lockpicks to the door and try to open it. Be patient, though it may take a few tries to learn. You'll find a package in there that belongs to me. Return it, and I'll give you a leg up. You have been assigned the task 'Behind Closed Doors' The locked door is at -1605, -1530 (second door on right), behind Innkeeper Fathus and Innkeeper Seltu. Pick the lock (confirmed pickable at 17) and pick up the package "Kessrala's Package" on the bench. Return the package to Petty Thief Kessrala. Your task 'Behind Closed Doors' has been updated. Nice work! Kessrala has been waiting for this day for some time! Innkeeper Seltu confiscated that package when she "borrowed" one of his books from one of the inn rooms. You gain experience!! (~5% reg xp at 58). Petty Thief Kessrala says 'Ha ha! Finally it is all mine once again! You have done a good thing here _____ . A very good thing. That innkeeper will never get the better of me! Upon completion, subsequent hails give: Petty Thief Kessrala says 'Unless your the sort that can learn how to pick a lock, I want nothin to do with ya'. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Just wanted to add, that if you "accidentally" destroy it, just wait a few moments, it will respawn on the table.
Can skill up to at least 55 on this door quite quickly.

I confirmed that I could pick it at 15 skill, and I got a skill up to 16.

I came here looking for info on how to use the lock pick set.
Just incase your like me and its your first rogue,and you dont already know.
Stand infront of the door, left click on the lock pick set (like your going to put it somewhere else in your inventory) hover it attached to your cursor over the door, and click (like your going to give it to the door).
And there you go.
The door opens.
To work on the skill, stand close to the door with the lock pick set attached to your cursor, and click away.
I spent 20 minutes trying to hold it in my main hand, or doing the WoW thing by clicking on the lock pick set .. duh ... or placing it in an empty inventory slot and ..trying to drink it like a potion .. duh duh ..
Well anyway ... there ya go... have fun (you theif).

I finally found Merchant Kaphiri in the blacksmithing area way in the back. He does not sell lockpicks. I have tried all the merchants in that area. I havent found lockpicks yet.
Innkeeper Seltu will sell you lockpicks. problem solved : )

did this at level 7 or 8 with my rogue
I trained lockpicking skill to 10 with the Guildmaster, then did this right off at level 15. Use the door for practicing the skill - it moves very quickly up to around skill level 185, and then slows down consderably.

i got this with my lvl 16 rogue and got it on second try with 17 lockpick skill
Got the task at level 28 with absolutely no problems.
Picked the lock with 40 lockpicking skill on the first try.
