Bone Chips are sold by the new guild lobby merchants, A Vendor of Reagents, for 0.084p ea, unlimited quantity - FV server. Edit: I should add that I checked with my ogre, of a whooping 85 cha.
I've noticed the NPCs sell these for more now. I use to buy them all the time for 1 silver and 5 copper and now the price is 7 silver and 8 copper on all NPCs with indifferent or better faction and charisma of 122. I Know its not a big deal but it is a relatively new change with in the last 6 months. Anyone else notice this?
They nerfed the price once they released the vendors that sell infinite amount because you could turn in 4 bonechips in kaladim and make money from your purchase price...
my necro has a weapon that harvests meat from mobs that I am fighting ..so once I get a few stacks of meat (Any meat) I use my spell to convert the meat to bone chips. =) I rarely if every farm bone chips for that reason alone I can get chips from any mob..the weapons comes from Greigs End and don't ask me I forgot the name of it atm. I guess you could BUY meat and use the spell to convert it to chips that way. also =)...Good luck and have fun

Scythe of Sundering and that is a seksy, seksy piece of equipment. I've been on the fence about maybe creating a necro, and I think you just helped me decide =]
These are now buyable off of the vendor Marie Fay in Brell's Rest. So any of you wanting to work on your faction in kaladim, qeynos, felwithe, etc... now would be a good time to do it
Hello! For Necro Beginners, the only place I have found these in Glooming Deep is off of the Pile Of Bones. So they are in Glooming Deep, in the tutorial!
Bone chips, they’re everywhere... but some players burn through a lot and by lvl 70, 80, etc, the charm of gathering them has long worn off. It’s true that chips are easy to pick up but when your summoning skelly number 34,678 and find yourself running low… do you really look forward to farming yet another stack? I don’t think so.
So… Unless Npcs start selling them all the time…
These remain a great way for newbies to make some money in the bazaar. You can safely ignore much of the argument on pricing you’ll find; it’s largely outdated. The only thing you shouldn’t ignore is what they go for on the server you play on.
On my server, they are shockingly unavailable quite often. Which is sad because players still need them… and especially so because I see a lot of newbies trying to sell other things no one is ever going want to buy. Yet here is something they can easily get hold of that still sells nicely, but it doesn’t seem to occur to most of them to even try. There’s nothing sadder too than spotting a newbie selling these for under a plat. Except maybe when I see veterans selling them for a paltry few gold too as some kind of miss-guided public service or something. Few players need the charity of ultra-cheap bone chips… but it’s still very hard for newbies to make plat and it’s sad to see established players sabotaging an important newbie market so they can feel good about themselves. That’s just the way I see things I guess…
I don’t often put these up, but when I do occasionally find myself with an excess to sell off, they don’t usually sit around too long. Some days ofc they don’t move out… but Weekend and Raid nights you can often unload a few stacks.
Yes, they’re just bone chips but don’t sell yourself short. True, Npc venders sell these for practically nothing… but they aren’t the reliable source you can be. So you really shouldn’t be shy about charging the same 100-500 per stack I see them turn over for on my server.
Diversification is important, the more different types of things you sell the more likely you are to make sales on any given day, but even so, you should always try to sell bone chips in full stacks. It may sound odd at first but the more you have the more they (each one) are worth. People don’t hit the bazaar to buy just a couple chips. No need to put up too many stacks at a time, I’m sure, but People do come to the baz to re-supply and stock-up and don’t want to have to think about running back again for weeks or months. If you can, make sure you have enough chips, enough stacks, to make their trip worth while. Start with a few stacks maybe and see how they move.
If no one is selling them on your server try selling mid range, say 3plat each, then adjust up or down depending on how fast they move for you. Give it a few 6-8 hour sessions if you can before you decide, don’t panic and start lowering prices too soon, unless ofc competition shows up and makes it clear you’ll have to. If there are other sellers, then it depends on how many they have too. If they are selling large stacks of nearly 100 or more then match their price. If they only have a few, you can safely ignore them and price yours higher if you like. Take my word for it, a guy who wants 1, 2, 300 bone chips isn’t going to bother stopping to buy from the guy with just 23… he’s going to come right for your full stack even if it is a little more expensive.
Be careful about undercutting your competition. When selling this type of thing, high stacking commodities that are pretty steadily in demand, you are usually best off preserving prices, given the choice, than driving prices down. Even if you only want to sell one stack you will likely have to remain up for a day or two, that’s a long time for your competition to notice you’ve under-cut their price and turn around and do the same to you. So in the end you haven’t sold your stack a moment sooner and now you’ve given up a nice bit of your profit. It’s an even bigger disaster if you want to keep selling bone chips long-term.
That said, if prices do drop… if that old supply and demand equation comes out against you… there’s little you can do then but keep selling at the new lower price. Markets swing up and down all the time, and if you can manage it, your usually better off in the long run if you can swing with ‘em.
Well, hope at least some of that was helpful to someone.
This has been something I never understood about players on Everquest. Why do people pay so much for things like bone chips and spiderling silks? Why do people pay 3-400 pp for a Port somewhere. Is it the fact of being too busy to walk there? Are you too busy to go and kill some skelli's and loot the chips for free? Spiderlings too fast for you to go and kill a few and get some silks? You can easily get these items because a lot of the mobs that drop them are green even to a 5th level character. The only reason I can see for spending so much for a port is if you have to cross some very hard zones, but I've even crossed through completly red kos mob zones with a low level character and made it fine, by sticking to the walls. What gives?
It's the same reason why people will spend money on a taxi in real life rather than walk for a while, convenience. When you can make that 3-400 pp on just one vendor trash drop, or a couple buffs for people, or whatnot, then why not spend it on something as useful as saving you quite a bit of time, potentially hours? Something also that I've noticed for spiderling silks especially is that green mobs seem to have a much, much lower drop rate the higher above their level that you are. When I hunt spiderlings with level 1 or 2 alts I can often get 2 or 3 silks per spiderling, but when I hunt with my main, I rarely get any... *shrugs* I haven't kept track enough to know if that's just my luck or something though. But yeah, it's much more fun to do things other than farming, even level 1 mobs, and hundreds of pp is chump change for a lot of people, so they're perfectly willing to spend it to save themselves quite a bit of time.
I agree Joev. Farming is very time consuming. Although an item may be listed as common...BLEH! For instance I spent approximately 20 hours killing just to come up with 1 Raw Hide Belt for cultural armor. That with a 55 SK. I would have gladly paid 1-200 plat for it. As for the bone chips, my 18 Wiz is starting research, yea I can log the Sk and spend time collecting. Considering all the time spent farming for 5 different tradeskills, spells etc. I will pay for some bone chips.
lessee, you're lvl 33 at the highest character. wait another 33 levels and you'll understand. silks, folks tradeskilling need tonnes of them doesn't matter that they're green cons, it's a pain farming them. bone chips? yeah, they can farmed s needed, but it's hella easier to just buy them with pocket change.
walking? sure. while Luclin is my home, and, at 65 just about anything aggro'ing me on the way to Acrylia Caverns is toast, even so, i don't want to zone into:
taxi, taxi, taxi, ah, a druid thank you very much. 400 plat, while steep, isn't denting my purse.
it has more to do with convience than anything--rather than farming silks, one can be off raiding with their guild or grouping for AA/XP. same with bonechips.
so, don't judge folks from your lower level perspective until you've walked a few levels in their boots.
Well I guess if you're sitting on that much money and 400pp isn't denting your purse then I guess ok, I still think its a waste of money, and I wasn't judging, I was just wondering the reasons when these things are so easy to farm. But I thank you for clarifying some of those things for me.
well, to be honest, unless i was in a huge hurry, i'd not pay 400plat for a port to Grimling Forest. there are other zones where i wouldn't blink at 400 plat. various OoW and GoD zones for instance--trust me, when trash mobs can throw some serious hits, the last thing you want to try and sneak through and run into a see invis or have invis drop, die, and lose all your buffs you paid for, then, pay for a rez, and pay for buffs *again*.
making plat--legitimately--gets way easier with levels. zones like acrylia caverns have mobs dropping a commidity that folks pay for, acrylia, plus the grimlings drop filth covered weapons that sell for 200+ plat a piece. there's also old world zones like nurga, charasis, chardok, where drops still bazaar for ok prices--or tribute. plus mobs drop plat + change and they're easily mowed through while still giving xp/aa at 65. =)
there are folks who can make quite a bit just leveling from 1-10--rat tails sold to vendors, bonechips sold in bazaar (though to be honest, i've never had bone chips sell on my trader no matter where i price them), and vendor diving and then bazaaring finds.
also, tradeskilling for convience. celestial essence has a low trivial, all the components are found in pok for cheap, and, most tradeskillers will pay for someone else to wreck their wrists making the making the stuff. can't charge obscene prices, but a few stacks can make you some plat.
sorry for coming across a bit caustic, i see now the question was asked in all candour.
Correct me if i wrong, but not too long ago, i remember the going price for bone chips to be 1p per bone, while tonight...the people in PoK were charging 5p per bone, a total of 100p per stack.
Now, answer me why anyone, even a desperate necro, would spend anymore than 25p on bone chips? if you ask me, it makes absolutely no sense considering if you're bored enough you could just farm em.
Here’s what I don’t understand… well maybe I do, but just can’t believe it’s such a common reaction.
Why would anyone get pissed off when they come across something, anything, at a price they don’t like? I can understand puzzled, amused, disappointed, maybe a little annoyed, (stress on ‘little’) but actual anger? I mean, I’ve overheard people talking about training people to get even.
Even for what? Is everyone obligated to sell them whatever they want at whatever price they want? How far off is that from newbies that figure other players owe them free plat and equipment? Don’t like a price? Ignore it. Pretend it’s just not there… If nothing else, it’ll be better for your health that way… If it’s truly unreasonable then everyone else will ignore it too, no harm done. The guy should figure things out eventually.
Sure, we all get disappointed when we drag ourselves into the bazaar and find we can’t afford what we want. But it’s a market place not a charity and there is nothing stopping any of us from turning around and doing whatever the trader did to get the thing for ourselves. Far worse to my mind, is to drag myself to the bazaar and not be able to find what I need at any price at all. To not even have the option of throwing some plat at a problem…
The last time a trader really saved my butt, I can’t even remember what it was I needed… some one little thing for a quest. Nothing special, but I just couldn’t get it to drop. I spent the better part of two weeks searching Alla… grinding one mob-type after another… And every night before I shut down I’d check the bazaar… just in case… ‘till finally… There it was, whatever it was, just waiting for me. Beautiful! I would of hugged & kissed him and sung his praises for just having the thing up at all. I can’t remember what it was but I do remember it was just 50plat, where I was prepared to give him 2000 or more… if he hadn’t been afk I would have made him take it all even if he didn’t want it. People could have reasonably argued that such a low lvl, supposedly common drop should have been priced at 5, 15 plat tops, but not 50. But to the right person… me in that case… it was worth much more than the trader even thought to ask.
Maybe what really pisses people off half the time is not that the trader doesn’t know the value of what he’s selling. Maybe it’s that he really Does know it’s value, but the buyer was hoping he wouldn’t. If 'my' trader in shining armour had wanted 5k or 50k, I might have been tempted in either case, such was the state I was in by that time.
Anyway, I don’t know about 25p for a bone chip… I guess my reaction would more likely be laughter and a, “Good Luck Pall.†But the 1-5p standard price I see is pretty darn reasonable under the right circumstances. Value is subjective, it’s a given that we all aren’t going to agree on what it is, or price either. But whatever it is, it’s nothing to get upset about.
Just sold a bag of 200 chips for 200plat last night. Just auctioned in PoK.
Zeb Server
Amazing since there were 1000 for sale at 5g per in the bazaar.
also, for those that do the bone-chip quests to level their alts, please think about posting specific stats such as this...
At lvl 13, I took 16 crushbone shoulderpads to Kaladim and turned them in.
I am a Dwarven Paladin.
Each shoulderpad gave me 6% exp! (6 blue ticks) I raised almost the entire level off of this.
*Note* the belts, when turned in, give 1% (1 blue tick) at this level.
Gunlok regarded me as Amiable. Just a suggestion. Since so many people do this quest, if there are those of you out there who will post your own results, we can compare differences to determine how quest exp works.
For example, if a lvl 10 paladin Dwarf does it, and gets 9%, that would be good to know.
If a lvl 12 paladin who has poor faction with Gunlok does the quest and gets 2%, that would be VERY good to know.
If a lvl 12 paladin ELF does it and gets 3%, that would be VERY good to know. (racial modifier to exp reward)
If a lvl 12 dwarf FIGHTER does it and gets 12%, that would be good to know (class bonus modifier.)
Be sure and post your Class, Race, Level, and Faction with Gunlok.
It is fairly safe to assume that once the research is done for this quest's experience, the rest of the questing experience for other quests works on exactly the same premise.
(fyi - turning in 4 bone chips at this level/Class/Race/Amiable to Kaladim Pally GM is worth only 1/2%)

Posted:Oct 16 2004 at 9:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) One problem with lvling like that is your weapon ablilities dont go up. So why post something dumb like that. You those types of quest to raise faction not lvl.
You can always use skill points to up skills that fall behind. Gloomingdeep tutorial gives quite a bit of quest xp. Many people PL a significant # of levels and manage to have decent skills.
For the level range you get xp for this quest I personally don't think it is of significant negative impact.
I was hunting near nariak and the low end skeletons are no longer dropping bone chips. I moved over to the pok book and was getting bone chip drops from the higher end skeletons. Looks like another money maker for people just starting out has been squashed just like spiderling silks...
I just looted a NO DROP Bone Chips. I forget what the mob was, the undead cyclops i think. anybody have any idea what its for? i've never heard of it...
Again, looted no drop bone chips in SK, identify spell only identified them as Bone Chips - big help there. Looking for the bone chips for the quest in Kaladim, not sure if these are the right ones or not.
UPDATE: By looking up the mob instead of the item, was able to ascertain that these are most probably the bones needed for the monk yellow headband. They all dropped from "a putrid skeleton" there at the undead camp in SK. They won't help ya in Kaladim.
Can be taken to the Paladin Guild in North Kaladim. Give to Gunlock Jure (loc 1323.58, 161.67, 39.13) 4 at a time (unstacked). Recieve item, XP, and money. (XP good on lower levels)
I play a DE Necro on Karana. I made the rounds in Neriak and picked up from the vendors 9 stacks of bone chips. Since I need and use them I was in no great hurry to sell them so I went to bazaar selling my spiderling silks at 2p a pop and I put a price of 7g 7s 7c on the bone chips. Sold out in minutes. Thats 15p a stack. I have since done this 4 times and I never keep them long.
In one day I made over 800p on chips and silks. Of course I do have my own hunting grounds for silks and I will advise as to where when I am done. Don't need the competition just yet. But I assure you that I have found a spot where the spiderlings just cover the ground. Seriously I am unable to kill them fast enough. I can gather about 200 silks in under an hour.
i bet i know, the spider cave in field of bones, hehe. great place to hunt for spiderling silks. hope i spoiled your secret spot, got to learn to share, hehe. 8P
I think that must be way out of whack. I would never pay 3pp for a single bone chip. They are way too common for that. I can get a stack for 2pp on my server. Newbies are willing to sell them cheap. :)

Posted:Dec 25 2002 at 9:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I know that only the greatest guilds can submit uber items like these, and I appreciate the fact that ssnake took the time to take a screen shot of his loot. Wtg ssnake!
I'm guessing that since skeletons are undead, and thus enemies of good classes, that the faction hits are; raise good groups, and lower evil. Anyone know if this is indeed the case?
Undead are equally kos to good and evil races/classes. They are basically neutral in that they want to kill everyone.
The faction hits depend on who the quest is from. The Xelha east freeport dismal rage quest raises naughty factions while lowering good. Meanwhile the dwarven paladin guild quest raises good factions. Both use bone chips.
Faf is right, I have a 13 Mage character, but skeletons don't attack him at all. However, they attack my 70 necro, 57 cleric, 27 SK, etc... So I believe that any class (since they are all Dark Elves) that is strong against undead, or needs to kill them, are kos to them. Any thoughts?
Bone Chips. What can you say? They are everywhere it seems, and I accumulate a ton, especially from all my time in Unrest. I save them and give them to my Necro alt, and now he has hundreds of them. The quests worked a bit for my Pally when he was young, but I made sure to avoid the pitfalls of no skills. I would fight until my skills raised up to the max for the level (wouldnt take too long at lower levels). As soon as they maxed, I would do bone chip quest to level up. Not too bad. I am now 35 and my skills (the ones that matter) are all maxed. What I have questions about are all the other bone items. I just got done with a trip to Unrest, and currently have in my inventory 5 distinct bone items: the standard bone chips, barbed bone chips, darkbone chips, warbone chips, and darkbone marrow. Now I know a couple of these go for a necro quest (Xa Tempi, etc.), but any ideas on the rest of them (especially the darkbone marrow)? I have tried to find out, but no one seems to know.
