The Kejekan Smithy Hammer can be turned into any of the five titans to receive the Soulforge Hammer.

I did this quest several times today, and here are my observations. First of all, this whole quest/set of quests is odd. Purifying the weapons and armor doesn't result in significantly different or improved items. Purifying a shadowed item reduces its stats, increases its saves, leaves the damage/delay ratio unaltered, and changes which races and classes can use the weapon. However, these items are so poor in quality, even for the era when this quest was introduced, that the effort required is completely out of balance with the reward. It seems to me that the point of the quest must lie with the apparitions, but they appear completely unresponsive.

In addition, acquiring the Jungle Spiritling Stones is difficult. The only way I was able to get the few I did was by bringing in a ranger alt. The Jungle Spiritlings seem to be quite rare, and I had to slaughter most of the southern half of the zone just to get a half dozen or so to spawn over the course of several hours. They don't drop the stones but perhaps one third of the time.

I was able to get enough spiritling stones for three turn ins, and the amount of Kejek Spirit Powder I received was different for each. The first turn in resulted in two powders, the second in only one powder, and for the third I was given four powders.

I would also like to confirm that you can almost certainly give your Kejek Smithy Hammer to any of the animal titans. I spent several hours trying to spawn Giang Yin before I went back and re-read the NPC's text. He never mentions Giang Yin specifically, just Titan Spirits. I then turned my hammer in to Snowbeast, who rewarded me with the Soulforge Hammer.

I attempted the purification combine in a New Tanaan Forge in the Plane of Knowledge, with "unable to combine" results. The forge in the Kejek village in Stonebrunt, called the Kejek Forge, allowed me to purify the shadowed items. I didn't try the purification combine in a normal forge, nor in any cultural forge, but I think it is safe to assume that the combine can only be done in the Kejek village's forge.

Turning in a Fading Soul Orb, created from the purification of fading shadow weapons, resulted in a fading apparition spawning. I only turned in one Fading Soul Orb, and a Fading Heretic Apparition spawned and promptly attacked me. It dropped nothing upon its "death", and gave no faction hits.

Turning in a Soul Orb, created from the purification of a crystallized shadow weapon or armor piece, resulted in an apparition spawning. I turned in six of these, resulting in three Heretic Apparitions, one Erudite Apparition, and two elder Vah`Shir spirits. I killed two of the Heretic Apparitions and one of the elder Vah`Shir spirits, resulting in no items and no faction adjustments. The Heretic Apparitions were "scowling" at me, the Erudite Apparitions were "ally", and the elder Vah`Shir spirits were "indifferent". I speculate that the Heretic Apparitions are on Heretic faction, and that the Erudite Apparitions are on an Erudite faction, most likely Peacekeepers considering the factions raised by completing turn ins for this quest. The elder Vah`Shir spirits may be on Kejek Village faction.

None of the apparitions responded to my hails. I attempted to give the Erudite Apparition and elder Vah`Shir spirit each a Shattered Soul Orb, a Shattered Fading Soul Orb, a purified weapon, and a purified armor piece. All were rejected. I couldn't attempt to give the Heretic Apparitions anything, as they attacked me on sight. All of the apparitions/spirits that I didn't destroy made their way slowly out of the village eastwards along the path, despawning at the end of it. None of the Kejek villagers interacted with Heretic and Erudite Apparitions, but they buffed, SoWed, and healed the elder Vah`Shir spirits.

I'd be very interested to know what the designer's intent was behind this quest. Was it just for lore purposes, or is there more of the quest that is undiscovered? Perhaps the apparitions/spirits would respond if hailed by one of their own race or faction. Perhaps higher Kejek Village faction would result in the elder Vah`Shir spirit responding. In all of the turn ins for this quest, I never left indifferent for Kejek Village, so gaining enough faction to test this would be difficult/annoying.

Combines are No-Fail and Trivial at 15.

You can learn the weapon recipes but not the armor recipes (presumably since the armor is no-drop).

Gave the Kejekan Smithy Hammer to Gian Yang (Panda Titan) and it gave me the Soulforge Smith Hammer. Guess it works with any of the titans?

To answer some of the previous questions:

The freed spirits travel to the end of the road and despawn.

They do not respond to hails and they give back the shattered spirit orbs if you chase them down and give it to them.

Saemy Wirewhiskers and his buddy also give back the shattered orbs.

The spirits from freed from soul orbs appear to be higher level than the spirits freed from the fading soul orbs.

The heretic spirits appear to be on heretic faction. They will attack anyone who has poor heretic faction (which is most people). I have amiable Heretic faction so they leave me alone, but I have seen them attack others who are not so fortunate. I don't recall killing one so I can't say if there is a faction hit for doing so. However, I DID kill an erudite shade from a soul orb and received NO faction hits. This leads me to believe that the other spirits would also cause no faction hit. I've yet to see a vah shir spirit.

At level 38, the experience gained from freeing the shades appeared to be small but measurable. It might be interesting to give a level one peep the hammer and a weapon and some spirit dust to see just how much it is. That may ultimately be the reward for this quest, with the shattered orb and freed spirit being just window dressing.

Purifying the weapons doesn't appreciably change their value to a merchant and at level 38 I could still see plenty of blue-con spiritlings on track. If you've already made the Spirt Hammer, it might make sense to keep the fading/crytallized weapons after a ToFS raid, go to Stonebrunt, hunt the spiritlings, then make the powder and purify the weapons. Free the souls and sell the weapons to a merchant. Extra work but you get an experience reward and, if you were lucky enough to get a dagger, a mini-runed-bone-fork as well.

You can get the oak shaft from Kalaaro Steelclaws right next to the Kejekan forge. HQ ore can be purchsed in the Bazaar and broken down into a brick using a file.

Also Giang Yin does work for blessing the hammer. He did not respond when I hailed him but I got the hammer.

I have the tunic from ToFS. I am a level 43 High Elf cleric and wondering if all this work to convert this tunic is worth it.
