He is a dwarf zirglim or whatever but dwarves cannot wear the damn things. think thats a little weird
These things haven't got the best stats. I'm thinking that they may be for some quest, although I am not positive.
A note, so far as I know, they only drop on the second floor. Gnomeskin armor on the first, crystalized shadow on the second. Got a belt, a couple pair of sleeves, a pair of boots, and I think gloves when my group hunted there two nights in a row (pulled the teacher, students, and Librarian/assistant). Only good thing I see about them is the weight, really.
These dropped off both the Ghostly Teacher, the Librarian, the Librarian Assistant, and ghostly Student. Didn't kill many scholars, but they most likely continue the trend and drop these, and other pieces of crystalized shadow.

All crystalized shadow equipment can now be purified by a quest in Stoneburnt Mountaiuns.

I got a Crystalized Shadow Tunic fromhim that has some really good stats.

He dropped a pair of crystalized leggings once for me. they had the stats no drop, magic, lore, an no rent

i was thinking the same thing. I had a couple pieces identified and it said
"Lore Item: You sense a trapped soul."
No ideas though, seems kinda easy to be the corroded stuff needed in thurgadin.

Everything on the 2nd floor drops newbie caster loot like this. Not for any quest. :(
