The purified weapons are actually very nice items. The resists on these are great, and not just at high levels. When you have to deal with any particularly tough magic using mob, such as evil eyes, the magic resist may just save you. If you've ever been charmed, and killed your own casters, you probably should consider using a pair of these and an ssb, or one of these, an ssb, and a crested mistmoore shield. Throw on some resist jewelry, and cleric buffs, and you'll be killing evil eyes all day without being charmed. These may not be right for everyday use, due to the weak ratio, but for mobs where you need resists, they are sweet.

No argument there - my rogue alt wields a Grinder off-hand, in fact.

I was responding to a previous post when I stated:

The Blackened alloy longsword has a better ratio than Crystal grinder. 10/29 = 2.9 ratio. 9/27=3.0 ratio. BAL sells for 100pp as opposed to 300pp for grinder. Icetooth's claws are evn better (11/29), and about same price as grinder.

The previous post, now filtered out by the default filter, said:

really glad they didn't make a lowbie weapon better than 9 27 (crystal grinder) or i might have had to find something else to twink my less than 20 chars.

My comment was merely to show that there are better delay newbie weapons than the grinder, based on ratio. Not to say that it is not worth the price. In fact, I believe the price is very reasonable, not because it has 2 ac, but beacuse it is piercing, and as such is wonderful for a Rogue. Also one of the better weapons for int casters at lower levels who still melee. My point was just that they do make better newbie weapons, and the Grinder is not the best to wtink all new characters with.

The Crystal Grinder has 2 AC; the BA longsword doesn't. Possibly, this is why it costs more.

Actually, most bards DO use a weapon, in addition to instruments. Infact, a weaponless bard is incredibly poorly equiped, bards get duel wield for a reason.

This item's combat stats may be a bit low for use, but it's resitances could prove useful in a variety of situations.
