GULF OF GUNTHAK: This port is the gateway to the lair of the Broken Skull Clan. It serves as the home for the newly recruited clan members and temporary housing for anyone that the clan trusts just enough not to kill outright.

Anyone wishing to learn about this fierce group of Trolls should start here and, if they are lucky, find the passages into the deeper parts of Broken Skull Rock.

He has a hyperlink just above the images, and another just below with the warning about it being designed for 1280x1024. The links point to

http://members.iinet.net.au/~hastarin/hast_uifiles.zip

The zip file contains a Readme.txt file giving insstructions. I suggest you alter your resolution before activating the UI.

It is about a 170kb download.

Incidently, the first image is a link to a screen shot of a different screen to this first image.

Also came across a book laying on the ground \

If you had bothered to click on it to open it, you would have found the following new poison recipes

Anemone feedback
Lined vial + constrict suspension + frilled anemone
Nematocyst Poison
Lined vial + constrict suspension + Ovate jellyfish
Paralyzing Neurotoxin
Lined vial + constrict suspension + Blowfish barb
Found the book on the ground and it was no drop

Without the title and perhaps text of the book, it would be hard to say. I could speculate, but there are too many unsolved quests involving books, as well as too many new quests for even an educated guess to have much chance of being true.

I will pick up the book tonight, and try to get some insight into it.

The unsolved quests referencing a book or tome are:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=65

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=60

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=190

May be incomplete list, but those are the ones I was able to find offhand.

More likely, it is part of a new LoY quest, but would be kinda nice for SoE to go back and complete quests they haven't finished 8)

OKay, there's quite a bit of info to figure out about those strange new mounts. Most people don't like them that I've seen on my server, but I will be researching them anyway. Here's what I would like to figure out for the general EQ public. If you have any info so far, please reply with it 8)

1: Is there a way to swap an old mount for one? If so, how? Do you downgrade when you do this (IE swap a 30k horse and get a 10k lizard in return)? Does it work like trading in a car, where they give so much plat back, but you must pay the rest?

2: The differences in color.

It has been confirmed that the differences in color are not purely cosmetic with the new mounts. I have heard various rumors as to what the benefits must be. Here's what I know so far for certain:

Green: The fastest color
Black: Somehow adds to safety in travel.

I have heard tell that the black one has regen added to it, but this has been questioned. If not by regen, then how does the black one add to safety? The fact that it does comes from the mount traders right next to the merchant who sells them, as well as the fact tha the green ones are the fastest.

If at all possible, let's curb the speculation on this, so that we may get straight known facts to the public. I understand that some people abhor giving out knowledge, because they believe they have some sort of upper hand over the average player when they know something that the average Joe doesn't. My principles are the oposite. I believe that people remember you for sharing knowledge, and appreciate it, when solicitied mind you, more than any other act of kindness or concern.

I will be reposting here, however my exploration of LoY will not be limited to the lizards. For that reason, I will certainly not come by knowledge as fast as others. Again, I ask you to please reply if you find yourself compelled to d so.

Speculation is appreciated as well when it comes from solid sources. Please don't post a guess unless it's an educated guess, and state that it is that 8)

Thank you 8)

I bought a black mount and noticed while I was hunting that I had to almost be on top of a mob before it would aggro on me.

So I think the "safety" factor is that you have a reduced range whereby KOS mobs will attack you.

As a lvl 38 iksar sitting on my mount, I regen 2hp per tick. So I think it's safe to say there is NO added regen associated with black mounts.

I just learned there is a mini quest to sell back your horse. This is a way that people may trade in their horse for a new mount.

In the Bazaar, at the stables, there are 2 NPC's which state that they buy horses when you hail them. If you give one of them your bridle, they give you a bag of platinum (item not currency), which you may then sell to a merchant. Word of cuation here would be to sell only to a merchant whom you have max faction with, and with as much charisma as possible. Doing differently could cost thousands of plat in this case.

The idea then would be to use the plat you get from turning in your horse to buy a new mount. I get the feeling this will work like trading in a car, where you will have to shell out a difference in price due to loss of funds through the process. The ammount you have to shell out, of course, would relate to which horse you sold, which new mount you want, what your charisma is, and what merchant you sold the "Bag of Platinum" to.

Thank you to Nihixul for giving the first big clue of how the turn in works, in the following thread:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7106

The colors of the new mounts are:

Black
White
Red
Green

Aparent advantages over a horse (other than advantages various colors may have) are mostly model oriented. For example, your horse's head blocks your view half the time, whereas the lizards' heads are so low, you can see fine.

Not sure if these poof in water or not, but is another good question. Though they seem capable of amphibious travel, I wouldn't doubt they do poof. Reason being that the horses poof because there was no way for them to stop your swimming animation while on a horse, which could have lead to you and your horse being seperated, or other bugs.

Thank you kindly for the post on the black one, Veth.

If anyone has procured other colors, and have noticed advantages/ disadvantages, please add them. I will most likely try to get whatever odd color gets left out so that I can determine the last piece of info 8)

Sorry I didn't simply add this to the original post via edit button. I didn't want to make the original post too long, plus would like to keep info in chronological order so that those who would like to help divulge this info will know where we are so far on it.

**Edi fixed a few type-o's (missing letters in words, and such)

** Second edit added the actual procedure for trading a regular mount for one of these, instead of where I had originally said "I know there's a way, but don't know how"

That way for getting your money back for horses has been around a long time. When players complained about not having a way to get back their plat when they upgraded the mount. BTW you can get your plat back the same way for the Drogmor mounts by giving your color drum to the pirate that tells you about that color.

RE: Lizards

After looking around on The Seventh Hammer, it seems that the most popular lizard is black, followed by red, then green, and I saw not 1 white.

So I got one.

The NPC's near the merchant selling the lizards give clues as toward the benefits of the various colors. The clues usually come down to one word (with exception to the green).

The word in the NPC's response to hail for the white one is "Tired"

Coincidently, my stamina (yellow bar) never seems to go down while I am riding my new white lizard.

The word for the black one is "Safety"

See a couple posts above

The word for the red one is "energetic"

No clue yet

The green one's NPC is a bit more interesting. This NPC coughs and sneezes, and mentions an allergy. Could the green ones have an effect on DoTs? This is speculation, but I can't think of anything else this would mean.

More to come 8)

Whenever the merchants selling the lizards are added to the beastiary, I will sum up everything we learn about them in one post there.

The "Energetic" clue about the red mounts has been discovered.

Certain conditions which lower your agility and stamina are slightly lessened while riding this mount. This includes warriors who are very close to death... Adds the benefit of the mobs not hitting you more and harder because you're about to fall. I could see this being very usefull when running for your life (something we all have done at one time or another).

The benefits to the green one have still not been discovered. The only ideas I have that I haven't been able to test are whether there are certain benefits in disease based planes, and whether this color lizard will effect the way certain NPC's react to you. From what I have heard, there is no effect on DoTs from this mount.

Overall, the most notable of the benefits seems to come from the black and white lizards. The black lizard seems to make it much easier to single pull in certain situations (see post above for why), and the white lizard helps alot right aftera long swim, or in a battle that has drained your yellow bar to almost nothing.

In addition to these things, I have found one more difference between horses and mounts, albeit a nearly insignificant one. Horses very slightly slow down when running up hill at a high enough angle. The lizards seem to be the oposite, displaying a slight improvement on slopes, whereas horses excel on flat ground.

To test this yourself, simply have a buddy on a horse autofollow you through a particularly hilly area, such as near the Great Divide zone in Eastern Wastes, or the hills between Thurgadin and the giant fort in Great Divide.

If I have any revelations about the green lizards, I will post it, but I am getting the feeling their benefit may be so passive that it will be a long long time before it's pinpointed.

Finally, the secret to the green lizard (Drogmor) has been discovered!

It's a semi safe fall. When you fall form long distance, the lizard absorbs some of the damage for ya.

Don't worry... The lizard can take it!

ok, the boat to get here is in stonebrunt, you just click on the door and your ported here. the lighthouse island is totally safe, and the races here seem to be mostly good, but not tied to any special faction, evil MAY be ok. to get to Gunthak, you jump off and swim tothe beach. where there is a whole ******** of shipqrecks and undead. thats the skinny

I took my 45 wizard here from the Stonebrunt portal using invisibility. Entered Gunthak through the boats doors, went about 10 steps, and was attacked by two darkblue skelly sailors. Before I could get an uninterrupted Gate spell off, I was dead.

So this is not a totally safe path. I recommend invisibilty to undead be cast before you try it.

This zone-in area is safe, but like many others in the game, train trash can be left.

Most of the time a person who trains something off the beach (likely source of your skelly's) doesn't make it back to the zone. The critters here swim like olympic athletes. With lev and form of the great wolf I can outrun them, but I don't think SOW would be enough. Try to outswim them and you are doing a CR underwater.

In short, you were the victim of someone else's train. The zone-in is actually safer than most.

The stuff u fish sells for 8 gold actually. The various npc's around the lighthouse give the spell quests, I cant seem to find necros :/ maybe int based casters have to research theirs.

If you can forage and everyone should fish in this zone. The stuff you forage and fish is a riot and fun, not to mention they sell for four gold each to the merchants.

Anyone is totally safe on the rock isle that houses the Lighthouse UNLESS someone trains to the boat. If that happens, just move out of the way till the mobs have returned back to their piece of the Gulf. Most just jump into the water and swim back.

Would a level 29 High Elf be okay in the area of the dock/lighthouse just long enough to grab some supplies from the vendors? Is there anything particularly harmful to watch out for?

You would have no problems from the zone in to the trader area. The trip stonebrunt might be a bit risky. I sugest geting a sow and a translocate to SB then run your butt straight down to the water and over to the docs praying you dont get attacked.

Keep in mind when travelling through the Warrens that about 1 out of 6 of the Kobolds see through invis. Not an issue for levels 35+ as everything should be green (or close enough not to matter), but just thought I should warn the unwary.

One mob did follow me all the way back to the dock / lighthouse area so be careful!
Levitation is a big help and I'm glad my swimming is at 127 :)
Haven't been able to locate my ranger spell quest yet. The mobs I've killed have had no faction hit at all.
