It is within Veeshan's Peak that the Lords of Scale hold their court. The oldest living creatures within Norrath, the Lords of Scale were deposited by the Wurm goddess Veeshan at the birth of the world.

It is from within Veeshan's Peak that Trakanon, at the time a mighty blue dragon, led his forces to meet the Iksar armies above the field of bone. Trakanon's victory was complete, decimating the upstart Iksar armies and razing many of their cities. Trakanon himself retired to the Ruins of Sebilis to keep watch and revel in his victory.

Level 55 is required to enter the zone without a key on the live servers.
Everyone can enter the zone with a key.

Yes, you will need a bard or a rogue with sufficient Pick Lock skill in order to get to the remaining dragons. Clever use of creature summoning might also work for a couple doors though I haven't tried it myself.

Today, the level cap is lv90 (It will become lv95 soon after expansion release in late 2011).
Every time I get into this zone I am the only one in whole zone.
But I have never seen any named dragons alive on my server, there are ppl keep camping them for fun or certain loots.
Some of quest rewards here are worth a while for 60's, if you don't mind to grind in mistmore for raising RoS faction.
But again, I wonder if you can find those named dragons to get quests since any lv80+ classes can kill them.

I just killed Druushk, Nexona, and Xygoz (the only three up) tonight so they are still there but people like us likely get bored, visit, and clean up the place. I always ask in general if anyone wants the loot so it doesn't go to waste but that is a lot easier on FV.

This zone was a raid zone back when Kunark launched and the max level was 60.

Today it has but a few uses:

1) If you're really bored and over 55, you can spank the unnamed mobs for so-so xp and generally unimpressive (today) loot.
Everything in this zone is extremely social.
Everything in this zone also has "Kunark hitpoints" (at least the non-raid mobs).

This will fry your Claws of Veeshan faction, and I think also Ring of Scale. You may repair the former by killing giants in Kael, and the latter by killing everything that moves in Mistmoore. As far as I know, there are no ways to repair the "minions of Scale" faction for the stuff in Skyfire but I've never seriously researched it.

2) If you park your 55+ toons in the zone and then splatter the (not really any longer) raid mobs with a higher level toon (a decked out 70 and a merc can probably duo half the raid mobs in there depending on how badly being dispelled screws up your class), chances are decent you will get an item or two that is still worth having at the levels for which they were intended.

3) You may want to give the quests in there a quick look for your 55ish toons, as some few of them result in items that might be worth having for a little while...but only if you plan to stay in that level range for a bit. If you're hauling tail to level 85, this zone is largely worthless to you unless Sony gets the wild idea to make it the 55+ hotzone.

We gated out and ran back to OT and sure enough i was maxx ally (gnome sk, her hubby was warmly (human pally), and she was indifferent (high elf cleric), so me and the pally both got the hammer after turn in.

Zoned in for the first time ever with my 69 Monk just to look around and try out my new OT hammer, and everything was light blue/dark blue con to me. I was apprehensive so I ran around for a bit. Checked the nearest named but it wasn't up, so the rest were probably down as well. I didn't see any "enraged" mobs or whatever that are level 78+ at all, so not sure what that post was talking about. Yes, everything says it takes a raid army to defeat but they are just regular mobs. Used my OT hammer on one to port myself out and it was hitting in the low hundreds before I got ported out, nothing special, and certainly not a "raid mob." Zone still sorta has that old school EQ zone feel to it, though :]

All the mobs in the zone will say it takes an army to defeat them cause back when the zone was new it really did take an army to defeat them. You needed a raid back then.

This zone is not indoors. You cannot summon a mount, but "outdoors only" spells like Spirit of Eagles work within the zone.

(EDIT: This post was created before the outdoors-only requirement was lifted from Spirit of Eagles)

I loved this zone upgrade except for the fact sony screwed the true players of the game by removing IMO the coolest thing about VP. The zone outs to plane of sky, sonh, fv , and skyfire now you can only port out to skyfire baaaa
When is sony going to learn that people love knowing things about the game very few other do. They love having keys to everywhere and factions so you can be the only wood elf on your server who can sit in the warriors guild in cabilis. Or have a free port of sky for you and a few of your friends who spent hours factioning RoS faction only to find out they removed that port ... Lame sony lame

Time and time again I see people get bent out of shape ******** about quests. THEN WHY DO YOU PLAY A GAME CALLED:
E-V-E-R-Q-U-E-S-T.

Sure I must admit that it's a pain in the *** but some of the quests are really fun and actually gear you up for bigger and better things. Not everyone is level 70 nor does everyone belong to an uber guild. Veeshan's Peak was meant to be difficult to enter but the rewards for the quests inside are still UBER after 4 yrs.

You are exactly right. since a large portion of the game populace are not in an Ubar guild this zone could be considered for the rest of use. So if your in an UBAR or L33t Guild then STFU and keep this zone untained for the rest of us.

I can confim that you can gate out of the zone with basic gate and GG spells. I am told that there are various portals you can click to zone out deeper in VP, but I do not as yet have enough faction to try that for myself.

Chat with Enrid Ebonclaw

I tagged along last night watching a raiding guild work on converting their keys. They cleared the 5 guard-wyverns around Enrid and all had a chat with him. After they moved on, I had a the chat for myself:

Quote:

You say, 'Hail, Enrid Ebonclaw'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'Thank you for coming to my aid, though I'm sure I could have made it alive. I'm smarter than most would admit. I even committed a crime against my master by questioning one of his motives and the punishment for that is death. Yet, here I stand! Those wyverns have kept me asleep and were trying to turn me to ash. Since you are here, I will finish what I started. I have a secret so magnificent and so powerful that the Ring of Scale will be extremely angry with me. I will exact my revenge! Now, would you [like to know] how to overcome the wards on the passage to Veeshan's Peak? '

You say, 'like to know'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'You adventurers are all alike. The dragons erected a new ward on the door to only allow the Ring of Scale and its followers entry. They changed it because of greedy adventurers like you! As a servant to the Ring of Scale, I learned how to create a cipher to enter the peak -- one that overcomes the new ward that was erected. This cipher requires the original key or the essence of the original key. The original key was very magical and powerful, for it encompassed the strength of this continent. If you have the original key, you will need to modify it by combining it with this powerless cipher and the blood of a brood dragon. If you do not have the original key, however, you will need to capture the strength of this continent, the essence of the original key. [continue]'

You say, 'continue'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'Combine the three major essences with that same dragon blood inside the powerless cipher to create the Cipher of Veeshan, your means of entering the peak. Also, you may have the original key's essence bound to your soul, so let me know if you would like me to [recreate the key].'

(at this point, I think, I was given the container)

You say, 'recreate the key'
Enrid Ebonclaw searches deeply into your soul and says, 'I am sorry mortal, I cannot recreate the key at this time.'

(I don't have the original key. no surprise that he wouldn't give me one)

The raiders proceeded to visit Dry Sapara, the new dragon in the entry to VP, and did something to trigger the spawn of Suled Dar`s Shade. He spawned on the north side of the huge lava pit in the middle of the zone. They dispatched him and spawned a row of chest/corpses, all of which had 8 minute timers. Each chest appeared to have only a certain number of pieces in it, since they despawned once they were emptied. I did not ninja their raid to try to see what was in them.

We managed to spawn Suled Dar's Shade by clicking all the orbs simultaneously.
Red con, KOS, see invis, permarooted seethrough dragon. Casts Infinite Mass(http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=4125&source=Live) and Shock Breath(http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=5159&source=Live)
Melees for around 2.4k and AE ramps.

Suled Dar's Shade says "You have awakened something which you should not have, fool!"
You have been slain by Suled Dar's Shade.

When he spawns, a zonewide shout is seen. Some yellow message about a light on the mountain range you're on. and some guy shouts about the orbs collapsing and he's not sure what's going to happen.

We're not sure yet, but we think you might have to be in melee range to cast spells.

He sees through SoS too =( have fun with the CRs, we are.

Shouted zone-wide when the Shade is triggered:

Quote:

Dry Sapara shouts, 'The globes are absorbing my energy! I do not know what will happen next, so be prepared!'
As the energy pours into the globes, a flash of light occurs. There is now a beam of light pointing to the center of this mountain range. You should investigate.

Shouted zone-wide when the Shade is killed:
Quote:

As the shade's corpse dissipates, treasure chests that were once hidden are now unveiled.

The new key quest
# Jul 14 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Good
Enrid Ebonclaw located at 2365, 3718 in skyfire mountains, is surrounded by several KOS mobs who hit for 600 each. There were 5 or 6 mobs, named something like agent of the peak. If you hail him he gives you the new key quest.

You need either the old key, or the essence of the key, and blood of a brood dragon, combined in a Drained Cipher of Veeshan (4 slot container he gives you). He will give you the old key if you are /keyed with it.
Old VP key essentialy worthless
# Jul 14 2004 at 3:15 PM Rating: Default
The old key to VP no longer works. There is now a large red dragons spawned outside VP, indifferent to all, it appears, named Dry Sapara. He doesn't respond to hails, in either common, dragon, or elder dragon. There are some KOS mobs that hit for around 600 now west of VP, which surround a black drake. The drake is indifferent.
It upsets me that SoE has elected to change the key for the zone. It took me a long time to get the VP key and now it is essentialy worthless, unless it turns out that the old VP key allows you to skip the vast majority of the new key quest. SoE now has the technology to insert pocket dungeons; they could easily have created an entirly new zone and put it inside VP, leaving the old zone alone and allowing those people who enjoyed the old zone to continue to enjoy it. Essentilay, I'm not upset that I didn't get a nice upgrade for free, I'm upset that I have to do more work to get back what I already had. I have /petitioned in game expressing as much, and encourage others who share this view to do the same. /feedback does get your coments to the developers, but /petition makes SoE use manpower to answer the petition and thus costs them something. They will be more willing to look into something that's costing them.

Rindle is right in getting upset about the change and your exemple about the Mossnakes sticks better on the Folks who are now happy with the new Key Quest. The old Key Quest was way harder than the new one,now you get 3 Mobs in Mid Level Dungeons and than get your Guild to kill a Dragon(and the kill is even usefull to a Lot of People getting his Key so its easier to get them together). Before you had to spend Lots more Time but since verant is catering to Big Guilds....The Folks with the old Key already completed are now upset cuz everyone now can get the Key in 1/4 of the Time, and what they get to recompense them??? a few !!!! more HP and Mana !!! LOL That stinks !

Um...

If you would have spent the time you wasted posting your sob story on looking for quest information you would've learned that your old VP key allows you to skip over the new key quest up to killing the dragon outside.

Everyone I know is loving the hell out of the new VP. Ones who never had any desire to go there before are now pestering me to help them with the key quest.

Why did they change the key?

Because it is now an EP level raiding zone, except for the XP area at the front. The quest was changed to reflect the new degree of difficulty. Old VP key quest is a cakewalk that anyone over level 50 can do and just buy a Trak tooth MQ.

Am sorry...

But there are days when I get fed up with the laziness and whineyness of some EQ players. They ****** because things are "too hard" or "take too long". They all want Time keys to drop off Moss Snakes cuz they are too damn lazy to put the work in to get there, and they whinge to SoE about how "uber" people get "everything".

Unless they have characters who are over level 50 or friends that are over level 50 to give them gear, I don't see a level 50 character soloing the pained soul, primiarly due to the large number of wanderers that would be fairly high level to a level 50. I would say anyone over 60 can solo most of the quest, although clerics, warriors, and enchanters may need help with the KC basement even at 60. I didn't complain about the lenght of the original VP key quest, which did take me days, quite literaly, of sitting in one place killing the pained soul's PH over and over. It was for an end zone key. But, I did go to that trouble, when it was for an end zone key, and now I have a green rock that does nothing. I will need the help of a very powerful guild to get the one component I now need to go back into a zone I had acess to, and I am not in a very powerful guild. VP use to be a zone that those of us who prefered to help others instead of spend all night, every night, raiding the same things over and over could get to. Now we can't.

My (at that time) level 52 Druid camped the Pained Soul, the skelly in DL and the Gobby in LoIO. I brought my Wizard (who the key was for) there first and camped him there, then ran my Druid over there. If you are careful and are paying attention you can do it. Harmony works, and root/snare works quite well in a pinch. Was it "easy"? No. But it was great XP for her.

Did the skelly in FV with my 44 necro.

The mob in KC I already had from a PBAE group I was in a couple months before I started quest. Trak tooth I got in a raid shortly thereafter.

Got the new key today in a pickup raid/zerg fest. I would imagine that you will find some of these pick up raids going on for a week or two. There were plenty of quest items for all.

Also, the first part of the zone is designed for XP groups with some nice drops. I had a group of friends in there after we got keyed and we had a great time. These friends are unguilded non raiders in mostly LDoN, quested Velious, tier 1 PoP and some lower level groupable mob dropped GoD gear. They could fight in there quite successfully. Of course they know how to play the game, their class and know how other classes work, too.

I think you are being too negative and "pouty" Rindle. You would much rather sit and say "WAAAAAAAH! It's too HARD!" instead of even TRYINGto find out if it actually is.

Druids are fairly proficient soloers outdoors, and necros are very good soloers, especialy when undead are involved. A warrior, cleric, or enchanter would not be able to solo those mobs untill they were very high level, and a 65 warrior would have to be very carefull in KC basement to not bring the entire basement down on himself or he would be out of luck. Yes, if you are the right class, you can solo the key at a low level. If you're not a good solo class, you can't.
It's nice that you were able to get some unguilded friends keyed, on some servers that happens. On others, the top guilds try to exclude everyone else from a zone untill they are done with it.
I don't think I'm being overly negative. There would be outrage if suddenly PoE or PoF became time level zones and another key was required to enter them. People aren't overly upset over VP because people haven't gone there for four years. But for those of us who did go there this key upgrade is annoying. It's bad PR to take something away from someone after you have given it to them. This is why when an item is nerfed, it only affects existing items if the item is horribly out of balance, or the item was bugged in some way that gave unintended results. The nerf only applies to future drops of that item. This is what SoE should have done with VP. If you were keyed already, fine. If you weren't keyed, then you have the new options for the key quest to get in.

Trak dropped 6 teeth for us. These were first pieces for a few of us. When I logged on the next day, 3 characters were one item (FV mob) short of completing the quest. TWO of those characters were being done by the one person.

Have heard stories of failed 8 hour camps in KC. I got that one on 3rd spawn both times I camped it. But I seem somehow charmed with long camps.

Just trying to say that the orininal key quest is not necassarily going to be as bad as many have experienced.

When Kunark came out originaly it was fairly easy to get the BGM, as no one was down there except to get him, and he was easily timed. Now, with Veksar in the background, people wander thru and kill the BGM without knowing what he's for, thus greatly reducing the probability of finding him up. The new key quest is far easeir than the old key quest, the only dificulty being that you need a group for 2 of the key parts (and for the 3rd if you don't have the ability to gate).
