You say, 'Hail, Nexona'

Nexona says 'Well, what have we here? How dare you enter my lair! I do not take kindly to your kind disturbing me. Are you here for the same reason all other adventurers are? To plunder and destroy the serenity of a place such as this for money and power? You are an affront to us and the Ring of Scale. You don't even look fit enough to eat, but perhaps I could make some use of you. I could have you [assist] me and the Ring of Scale in something we have been planning for a while now.'

You say, 'I will assist you.'

Nexona says 'Wise decision. I prefer this to picking your bones from betwixt my teeth. Now, as you may know, we have a cannibalistic dragon amongst our kind in Dragon Necropolis, the final resting spot for many of our kin. It's a foul creature, indeed. This dragon, Zlandicar, feasts on the dying flesh of our ancestors and disgusts us with his hunger for them. There is a clan of rising rats in Dragon Necropolis who oppose the dragon-eater. We have decided to aid them in their efforts to combat this disgrace to our kind. There is where you fit in. This is a special vial filled with a necrotic magic, but it is missing a few key components. This list will show what else you need to make this deadly concoction. Once created, go to Dragon Necropolis and seek out the leader of the rat creatures and give him the vial. Be sure to bring me back proof of the delivery. We hope this will help stop Zlandicar and his followers from devouring more of our kind. Go now, mortal.'

You receive Nexona's List and Nexona's Poison Vial, a Lore, No Trade, 6-slot Giant container.

The list says that the components needed are Double Brewed Orcish Stout, Philter (or Essence) of Concealment, Poison Frog Tongue, Zombie Bane, and Fyr Jen's Blood.

Everything but Poison Frog Tongue and Fyr Jen's Blood may be crafted. Poison Frog Tongue drops from frog mobs in the Plane of Storms. The Fyr Jen's Blood drops from fyr jen mobs in The Umbral Plains.

Combine to form Nexona's Poison Vial, a non-container. Take this to Neb in Dragon Necropolis. Conflicting reports about how much faction you need with Neb. High-dubious has apparently done the trick, however you may want to wait until apprehensive to turn in the note.

Neb says 'Ika vora isa, viia solta ian raka. Thank you for this concoction. Loka vula riluua zlandicar. We will use this on Zlandicar's allies. Wurna so vi re drikinavi wo isa maka. This will aide us greatly in our struggle against them. Wula vaa ria muta nish ala aknila nexona. Here is a sealed note to give to Nexona as proof of this delivery. Val na vi paebala yi no sa saka! All of the paebala thank you, tallone!'

You receive Neb's Note. Take it back to Nexona.

Nexona says 'If I understand this writing correctly, you have delivered. I am pleased, but I still do not trust you. However, in fairness, I shall reward you for your effort. If this reward is unsatisfactory, return it and I will find something more applicable. Now leave my lair before my hate overwhelms me!'

Casters receive a Shield of Dark Hues, while melee classes receive a Dark Cloak of the Whelp.

Essence of concealment
# Apr 14 2006 at 7:21 PM Rating: Decent
With the recent alchemy change, you can no longer make the essence of concealment, and a new potion with a different recipe has replaced it called Philter of Concealment. Has the quest been updated to use the Philter, or does it still require the old essence? Here is the recipe for the Philter:

1 exceptional shissar blood
1 gemmed potion vial
1 balm leaves
2 horehound
2 burdock root
trival at 270

On Vulak`Aerr, one cannot currently make the Philter of Concealment due to the botched up timeline regarding this quest and the POR-era alchemy revamp.

The GMs refuse to summon Gemmed Poison Vials despite this quest being valid in the current era on VA.

Does anyone know whether or not the original recipe using "essense of concealment" will work still work even though nexona's list says Philter?

Just tried this and it did in fact work with the Philter of concealment. The note also has been updated to say Philter of concealment. The Philter is a lot easier to get because you only have to kill in Ssra instead of LDON's to get the rare drop.

I went to DN to complete this quest today, right after the patch, and Neb was not up. I am reasonably sure that I'm in the correct location, loc is 470, 760, -160 - the west end of paebala tunnel.

So, if Neb isnt up, what do you do? Im not excited about killing Paebala's since the faction hits would prevent me from completing the quest.

Aye, since he is a named ratman - the Paebala leader - needed for a few quests, he might not spawn right when the zone comes up.

To improve your faction standing with him, kill off some of the Chetari rats until you can work your way back to have somebody track for your new pal Neb.

'I have a cunning plan.'

Mobs on the way are easy enough to solo, but think twice before going in here alone.

About 45 mins in soloing I trigger a trap that's got unresistable 200 damage a tick and root.

Was no way out of it so I had to gate.

If you're gonna go alone at least bring a bard or rogue.

Faction Question
# Oct 31 2004 at 10:12 PM Rating: Default
Would appreciate a straight up response - can you do the quest even if you are not max ally and not getting the quest?

In other words, if I collect all the items and am only KINDLY can I get the item?

I'm just not sure what "default faction" is, when I tried to look around the first time I was dubious... so I left.

Thank you in advance.

To sum up.
You need to be high ally to RoS (dragons in VP) to get this quest.
You need to be at least default faction to Neb in DN to complete this quest.

NO , if you can not get the text for the quest from the dragon then you will not get the item from turn in. You may get lucky and get your items back but more than likely you will get nothing trying it before you have the faction.

Confirmed... It takes no less than high dubious for Neb turn in.
Fyr Jen blood- Took about 3 hours of normal 1-3 mob pulls to get 2.
A poison frog tounge- Im sure i got lucky, 3rd kill off a tempest toad in PoS.
Zombie bane- Rogue did a combine after i finally found a few sacks for sale in the bazaar, this will probably be the most challenging piece.
A bottle of Double Brewed orcish Stout- Bought for 3k in the bazaar... price gouging sucks.
Essence of Concealment- 100p in bazaar.

Took me about 2 days from start to finish and i wasnt constantly on it.

well finally got my turn in piece again (sigh) and obtained the ornate velium pendant, i went back to check faction again using the pendant, still dubious with the 100 faction hits from pendant :/, i wont try a turn in till pendant gets me to apprehensive, but this is how many hits i have gotten so far: started off with threatening, 30 kills got me to dubious, another 100 kills, still dubious, plus the 100 hits from pendant, so dubious range has at least 205-235?, i killed another 10 (died to one of those damn wandering traps) but didnt go back to check. i'll try to keep update on how many hits are within the dubious range.

another 30 hits, still dubious with alliance neck, which puts me at 30 which got me unkos, 130kills, plust 100 hits from neck, so lookin at least 230 hits in dubious. i would have gone more but i got blocked in when TWO whelp kidnappers spawned trapping me in my very small faction area, and i died again to a stupid beetle trap on my way to neb, i would have tried a turn in but didnt feel ballsy enough to want to camp the pieces again.

got another 60 kills today, brings me up to 189-217 kills into dubious, with 100 hits from neck, 289-317 and was still dubious

ANYONE, have any kind of an idea of what to expect as far as hits within the dubious level? thanks

As you can see, the range for DUBIOUS is huge. If each rat gives 1 hit, then expect to grind for a while. I'm curious where the "default dubious" rating is. If it's -200 or so, then once you are threatening, it's gonna be a haul to get there.

Ally = 1450 to 2500
Warmly = 1100 to 1450
Kindly = 750 to 1100
Amiable = 150 to 750
Indifferent = 0 to 150
Apprehensive = 0 to -150
Dubious = -150 to -750
Threateningly = -750 to -1100
Ready to Attack = -1100 to -2500

started out threat, got to dubious with alliance spell and Neb ate my turn in, but friends at default faction got the note, so there's a certain cut off point within dubious. gonna try to get to apprehensive to make sure i guess, although paebala faction is slooooow to increase.

Faction goes: Scowling, Threatening, Dubious, Apprehensive, Indifferent.

Using sneak at Apprehensive would be useless since it has been comfirmed to work at Dubious.

The question then becomes, did u succeed in turn in because of your sneak or because of the fact you were already higher base faction than Dubious...

RE: dubious to neb

It appears that default dubious does in fact work, however low dubious does not. I have 2 toons that have never killed Paebala, and each did the turn in at dubious with no problems. However, a guildie had apparently killed a few Paebala in his day, was dubious, and had the item eaten.
RE: dubious to neb
# Aug 09 2004 at 10:27 PM Rating: Default
i killed some rats as i said and started out kos with rats, and apparently low dubious does not work, but not sure at what dubious level you start out with, but i must assume that its high dubious, i think its crap that they recquire you to guess how good your faction is within level, i mean thats what the faction levels are for in the first place, i can understand max ally because there is a point at which you can reach and KNOW for sure where you are at within that faction bracket, but to have to guess if you are high enough dubious is bs imo, its also not like you can hail him and get a msg that makes it clear you can do the turn in (which imo they need)

I accidently posted this question under the shield link but I'm reposting here since it's where I meant to put it.

I've gotten myself from max KoS to amiable (on RoS) but Nexona won't give me the quest. I have the sneaking suspicion that I need max ally but I'm not sure.

What's the lowest RoS faction anyone has done this quest with?

Anyway, I'm heading back to Mistmoore to AE me some more vampires... I'm considering changing my surname to Vampireslayer. =/

i dont have max ally yet, but am able to get the quests, i havent checked phara dar because i'm not really too interested in doing that one as of yet. i tried like crazy to reach max ally, did several rounds of the whole mm zone(late night nobody there)after already being ally and never reached it, went back and checked and was able to get the quests

Lowest possible is max ally. From Max ally, I killed one mob in Skyfire and Nexona did not give the quest. Ran back to mistmore and killed a few back to max ally and recieved the quest again.
RE: RoS Faction?
# Aug 06 2004 at 8:30 AM Rating: Decent
I am NOT max ally and can do the quests. I suspect the faction hits for killing a random mob in Skyfire must be more than 1 hit. Although it's not max, it's probably very close.

Thanks very much for the response. I would be upset but I managed to reach warmly today and best I can figure from my parses, I'm only about 700-800 more +RoS hits away from being max ally (based on hits from AEing in Mistmoore). Just a few more hours to go... =P

Dub Does NOT work
# Aug 03 2004 at 4:14 PM Rating: Decent
Dubious DOESNT, DOES NOT, WILL NOT, always work, i've turned the .... thing in twice already just to have Neb eat the quest piece and tell me to die. I started out threatening because way back when like 3 years or something i killed some rats with a raid. So, if you were able to hand it in with dubious then starting dubious must be high enough or you all were using sneak.
RE: Dub Does NOT work
# Aug 05 2004 at 2:45 AM Rating: Decent
i started out with threatening, killed 30 cheetari got me to dubious (first failed hand in), killed 27 more (got impatient died alot this day and took forever just to get those 27kills, second failed turn in), killed another 72 rats, one being the lvl 65 whelp kidnapper which seems to spawn in any cheetari spot (3rd failed turn in). I am now working on trying to get an ornate velium pendant drop, but i fear they may have removed it because i have killed several rounds of councelors with only pp, research, spell drops.

Where is Neb you say?
# Jul 29 2004 at 11:08 PM Rating: Good
I just finished this quest on MT for the shield (might be a server first, dunno) and I can fill in the last part TBova doesn't know hehe.

Ok firstly Neb is NOT IN THE CHITARI CAVES! I looked all around the msgboard and checked several maps, even asked some people in game- no one could seem to find him. So I ended up taking my poor group of friends into the bowls of the chetari caves based on some very crappy map and some hearsay. Needless to say afterwards I had a migrain.

To find Neb Go straight out from the entrance of DN. There will be a building a little off to the left and straight ahead. To the right of ths there is a strange Ramp looking object, Click on it, its a door. The door opens up into a set of subterrain tunnels. There will be several oozes. Bring a rogue or a bard to help with traps, but if you dont have either have someone who can FD go ahead. You can avoid most the traps by keeping in the dead middle of the tunnels.

Eventually you'll hit a pond, there is some kind of spell AE at the edge of the pond (you'll prolly see it start to cast like a shadowman casting) get someone to disarm it or do as i did and run like heck and pray it doesn't hit you. There are SEVERAL entropy snakes in this pond, they dont see invis but they do blind, Muscle Lock, and do several other very bad things. Get down into the water, swim down a tunnel, you'll start seeing Peleab Rats swimming around, pop up and go down the tunnel. I think you start out at Dubious to Neb so you should be ok to drop invis by this time. Then all you gotta do is Hand your vial in and get out!

Another tip I'd like to share is that while dragons in VP will not hurt you with good faction there are Lava Basilisks that DO attack and Hide in the lava, be very careful not to agro them while crossing the drawbridge to Nen, there are atleast 2 that like to hang out by it. I used Eye of Tallon to spring it from a distance.

Hope this helps!

I finished collecting all of the items for this quest in a day, so I figured I would share my experience with people here as a reference.

Fyr Jen Blood: These mobs are level 54-58, Have probably 20khp, and assist one another. They do NOT summon, so root-rot soloers rejoice. I was able to solo them easily, slowing with my epic before switching back to my damage weapons. You should take a friend if you cannot heal yourself or at least to keep you company (Umbral is lonely). The tunnels that connect the open rooms is the best place to fight, do not fight outside the tunnel system as the Dathors and Elysians will aggro and annoy you. To make pulling exceptionally easy is the fact that you can cast through the walls here. Target one and bind sight (if you can) or invis in to get your targets one at a time. Back out and pacify from a distance, then pull with a spell (snare works great). Took me 20 kills to get one blood, Total time: 2.5 Hours. I had no buffs other than my own, was relativley easy.

A Poison Frog Tongue: This, like the Fyr Jens is also simple. These mobs are snareable, rootable, and do not summon. They are in the forest area of PoStorms. I found the best place to pull to is the open area to the right of the underwater tunnel, next to the fort wall (Go east after you emerge). These hit for 300-500, so I would not suggest meleeing them unless you have a group. The other mobs in the area do not assist them, only the other frogs will. I would estimate 30-45khp on these. Be careful pulling them to your camp, as running by a giant or two can get you killed quickly. They are often camped by necros/wizards/druids as they are all 60-61 and are good xp for soloers. If you find yourself not finding many up, ask around to see if they are being killed and if the tongue is needed. Took me about 20 kills for these also, Total time: 3.5 Hours (not having a constant spawn flow due to others killing them).

Zombie Bane: This is going to be more trouble finding than you would expect. You wont often see it for sale in the bazaar, as the components to make it (Undead Shissar Venom Sack) are used in a very nice DD vs. Undead poison. My suggestions would be to look through vendors in PoK and PoTranq, and check the bazaar for the venom sacks. Once you get one or two (High trivial so extras are good), find a rogue friend to do the subcombines for you. Everything else is vendor buyable. Total Time: 20 minutes or so, Cost me about 500pp.

Essence of Concealment: Easy to get. You cannot use a 10 or 5 dose, and there are not often single doses sold in the bazaar, so collect the ingredients on your own. Swamp Vine is found in the bazaar easy, or on LDON vendors at the camps (It's a guk forage). Ask your guild and friends that forage often if they have any, I had a few myself from an adventure a few days prior. The rest of the items are all buyable in a few locations. I found Abysmal Sea to be perfect for all of this stuff. Once you have it all together, find a Shaman friend and ask them to whip some up. Total time: 30 minutes (Long run to abysmal and getting lost on the boat sucks). Cost about 100p.

Bottle of Double Brewed Orcish Stout: Buy pondweed in the bazaar. Get the rest of the ingredients in PoK. Purified Water is 2 waters and a celestial essence (made in a mixing bowl now, no more mortar and pestle). Give to a brewer friend or make it yourself (I failed once and Succeeded once with a skill of 176 against the 226 trivial). Total time: 15 minutes. Cost about 100pp for each pondweed and less than 10 for the rest of the stuff.

I have yet to finish my faction work and get my Cipher, so I dont know the details of the turnin in DN or VP. I will edit this when I get that information :) Hope this helps!

Of the Fyr Jen's the one that cast do summon, warder, flame caller, etc. They DO summon.

Also, like always, the Fyr Jen will have a lightsource if they have the blood, but not always, I killed one with a lightsource and dropped a Emberstone. Shortly after, I went deeply in the cave, pulled another glowing Fyr Jen, and dropped the blood.

Same goes for the Poison Frog Tongue, the frog in the Plane of Storms was also glowing.

Also, Abysmal sea sucks hardcore =(

You had better luck than I. Currently Im still unsure how many kills it will take for 1 blood as I am on my 5th cave clearing (clearing every one through the whole caves) so I would guess 65+ kills already. no blood.
Visiting Nexona
# Jul 28 2004 at 4:22 AM Rating: Good
Just a heads up, when u goto Nexona to hand in your piece and are jumping for joy, or your just going to get the vial, be invis, buy a potion or get a levatite, ash basiliks, lava basiliks scowl they are VERY VERY annoying, was a mood killer and a half when i was ready to turn in and i died at nexona's feet, talk about insult to injury. Oh yeah while you at it, feedback like hell too they need to be changed, or if they want to be independant creatures of the peak then perhapps your "allies" should help you.

As for Jen fyr blood, not terribly uncommon but still uncommon, I moved in and went into the empty room with the pillar in it (2 rooms in then on the left) to start pulls and such, getting swamped by these buggers is very easy, because they run and have such mass hitpoints i must say finishing blow is the win!.

Neb, this was a lil bit of a pain, once you enter DN, you need to invis up again head to the first doors (apprently standing on them while opening is a bad idea friend 20k'd a few times off them), head down advoiding the bones, there is a spike trap in the middle of the tunnel where it gets narrow and 2 blobs that will agro, if you don't have help pacify is your friend =/. once past stick on the wall to the right, swim in the water bob your head under in a small tunnel your in the peabla tunnel as soon as you come up.

Oh well hopefully useful information to ya's good luck on the quest.
