Part of Sullon Zek's Plane of Rage, The Devastation is entered through the arena in East Freeport. The different factions of mobs found here do not get along very well, and can frequently be found battling with one another:

- Barbarians (Furies of the North)
- Bolvirk Giants (Legions of Sverag)
- Drachnids and Spiders (The Venom Swarm)
- Dwarves (Stormbreaker Furies)
- Evil Eyes (The Irebound)
- Kobolds (Wildfang)
- Ogres (Bonecracker Furies)
- Orcs and Goblins (Redfist Legionnaires)
- Shiliskins (Deathshed Legion)
- Trolls (Blood Furies)
- Vah Shirs (Furies of Shir)
- Werewolves (Ragefang)
- Zombies, Spectres, Knights (Ravenous Undead)

What a low-down, lame, downright crock of S*it. You know, in all my years of playing this game, I have seen some real smelly, foul looking Bull's Hit. But this....this is just beyond my own belief.

Exactly what the hell was going on with the expansion team at the time they released this expansion???

So...I just wanted to get my level 70 ability from here, from the quest in Sverag. I see that the info on here shows this quest is 'solo' and can be done at level 70. Now my monk is one of, no. My monk is THE BEST monk on my server, and I am better then most average players, so I figure, Ey, I can easilly do this.

First, the run through Freeport is just annoying. What's with all the open space? Anyhow, no big deal. Then, I get into Devestation/ Plane of Rage. I see that most of the mobs that are on the way to Sverag are light blue-yellow. Being as good as I am with my monk, I figure, Ey...one yellow mob, easy pickin. Well, apparently either my stats and gear are BROKE, or they just forgot to add the "This creature would take an army to defeat!!" tag to it, beacuse this TRASH mob was as powerful as a raid mob. That's right. The TRASH mobs in this zone are F_cking RAID mobs. So I have to FD off the yellow trash mob, which they forgot to tag as a raid mob. I manage to just barely solo a light blue. I get to thinking, "Ey, I don't want to fight thru all this sh_t, I'll just invis my way to where I need to go. And...what a surprise, just about every mob sees invis. That's right, this is the first zone to this expansion, and these are all trash-mobs, yet just about every one of them see invis. So I figure I'll just run for the zone, and FD. Now as pathetically and ridiculously overpowered this zone has been created to be, you gotta understand, I'm just shiverin' in m'booties worried sick that, even in this 'fantasy' world, A gang of racist-latinos or skinheads are just gonna spawn outta nowhere, and deathtouch my monk right in his skull with a silver bullet from a desert eagle magnum, or better yet, a Ford F150 truck is gonna just fall outta the sky, and land on my character, killing him instantly. ANYWAY.....

I finally get to this Sverag zone, and knock the door down. So you gotta bust down the door to get to the next zone. Clever.

But what I'm still scratchin' my head trying to figure out, is why they had to add ANOTHER door you have to bust down right at the beginning of the zone, to get to this quest NPC i'm trying to get to. And....even though I'm standing right in front of the door, I'm still apparrently not close enough to land regular melee hits on. Guess you gotta be a caster to knock this door down? Melee's can't hit it? Woulden't surprise me, as casters are obviously catered to in this game, and well favored over melee's...Oh, I'm getting off topic again.....

So, after about 10 minutes of busting down this door with my dragon fang, I notice the room is filled with the same trash mobs they forgot to tag as raid mobs that were in Plane of Rage. And to put the icing on the cake, the quest NPC that's supposed to be here is nowhere in sight.

This was an interesting waste of my important time. You know what? I think imma call up my lawyer.

i just have to say that if you really are the "Best monk" then how did things here kill you oh 4 years? after the expansion when last i checked monks could very least FD their agro and even if that were to fail commonsense should remind you, as stated already, that a Plane is and always has been geared towards raids so a thought of caution going in should exist

Suck less? No really. You claim to be the best Monk on your server. Best at what, exactly? Complaining? You posted this in 2009, which means that if you were indeed referring to EQPlayers Monk Ranking, you were packing about 28k Hps, and 4500ish AC. Not to mention raid weapons. If you were having a tough time in Devastation and Sverag, you should reconsider your claim of 'Best Monk'.

This zone is crap. You are standing in an open field engaging a mob (doesn't matter what faction) and all of sudden six soldiers appear out of thin air and beat you down. Tried a different location (opposite side of the map) same result.

The trick to this zone is find a camp. Don't fight the mobs you want to kill on "their" turf, because this zone is contantly at war and it won't remain their turf for long, and usually (as you found out the hard way twice) another band of mobs wants to claim that turf for themselves. Not an easy zone, but the skills and spells obtained from quests in this zone are well worth the time spent here.

Ok trying to post this on all the different ways you can find the same quest as there are many quests with the same result.

First you go to devistation thru the arena in west freeport (click the statue). Once inside you will notice there is a big war going on from many sides. First you want to run to the middle area, some will see invis so watch out. The entrance is on the west side of the big circle in the middle. Break down the door by attacking it and zone in. Then break down the next door you see and it should reveal an npc of one of the factions. All the other npcs in the room will be aggressive but the one in front will be indifferent. All you are doing right now is checking which faction controls the tower. Now go back out into devistation. Kill anything that isn't from the faction in control. What you are looking for are no drop items like heads and axes. Once you collect 4 of any of them head back to the zone in the middle. Make sure you are in MELEE range when you talk to him or he won't offer you the task. Pick the task that is for the 4 pieces you have and hand them to him. Grats on your new spell =)

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You need to be in melee range of the npc for him to give you the task choices when you talk to him otherwise he just says you aren't worthy or something like that. At first I thought I needed to kill opposing guys to raise faction with him but you don't need faction. I wasted a lot of time killing stuff I didn't need to. There will be aggressive mobs roaming around behind the quest guy but if you walk up carefully they shouldn't aggro you.

Solo:
Most mobs are easy to solo in here as they can be snared and most don't summon but some do. I avoid the giants as it seems they all summon or maybe that was just my bad luck. The spectre undead cast a life drain which I resisted everytime but I read it does about 600 dmg. Most mobs are linked to at least 1 other mob nearby. Even if they are spread apart they will still come with usually 2 or 3. My perfered way to solo this was to round up groups of gnolls, undead, vah'shir, orcs, spiders, barbarians as they all have pretty low life (guessing about 25k). I was using beam for wizards to kite them all at once but can just single kill them while they all chase also.

Just wanted to say thanks for an awesome, detailed post. I finished two of the quests for myself and my monk thanks to this great info. I have to say, giants are probably the ones you should avoid as they take far longer to kill and hit a lot harder. They aren't a threat really at 85, but they were annoyingly slow kills and the ears were very difficult for me to acquire; took a couple hours. On the other hand, I had 4 tentacles and 3 eyes in about 45 minutes of killing two other species (and obviously finished the quest with the tentacles).

I have a new necro, just hit 70 and have began working on the saga skins quest. I am curious though, if since the last few expansions have come out, they have fiddled with these mobs summoning.

I remember that before, only the giants and trolls would summon, most of the other mobs were kiteable, which meant a necro could solo some of the quest, over half without worry. Now it seems its not that easy. Anyone know if they have changed the zone around?

I'm a level 72 pally that's working his lev 70 spell in Devastation. I will usually find one to two undead mobs and nail one with spurn undead. I run as close to the zoneout. If Theres no one in the zone ill root whichever mob I want close to the zoneout and then zone to return to a solo mob waiting for me away from any other mobs. If others are in the zone I usually ooc out that I am pulling and rooting mobs towards the zone out to ensure no one gets trained. Hope this helps any pallies whom are like me and don't always have a group of in game friends to help out with their Ward of Tunare spell. Banbian

There is a bypass quest if you are only interested in the spell and not the key mission arc.

Someone here can fill you in, or ask around ingame. But basically it just involves looting 4 heads, or hands, or something along those lines, and handing in to an npc in rage.

A potentially unfriendly but nonetheless effective method is to snare, optionally train adds to another camp, and then zone. This works for any snare-capable class, indluding rangers. The train to the other camp may be a bit scary and risky, although innate camo helps.

Some people like to grind in devastation. its a decent place for mage to solo, providing they can get singles.

Also, someone might be there getting their spell or disc through one of the easy quests, rather than the one for deathknell flagging.

best thing to do is not use a ranger for it, sorry.

sk and necro are by far the best here, followed by bard, then maybe monk (if you have the time to kill)

Snare red one, run mobs away, tank tags the snared one when it falls behind. Then fd them off.

sk and necro can send in a lower pet as a grenade, and run to a spot. As the mobs agro then come after them, snare, then fd. They walk home while snared one waits.

Or you could use a ranger that knows how to pull.
I have no problem pulling in Devastation without playing dead.
Pull singles, not triples that you have to fake death to get rid of.

Bard would be my first choice for pulling this zone but as long as the mobs come in and the group doesn't wipe, who cares who pulls?

Pulling in Devastation as a bard is almost trivial. Let's say you have a group of 5 mobs with a red that you want. I lull 2 then cast mezz on the 3rd. If mezz lands then 2 will aggro. I head back to camp and mezz the 4th on the way back. If mezz didnt land on the 3rd one then I mezz mobs 3 and 4 on the way back. I can do this on the run so no time is lost. When the red gets to camp I hit fade.

The giants cant be mezzed or lulled so snare or gate song must be used.

Many kiteable

Many of the mobs here are kiteable by a necro, however some do summon.

Red cons are your best bet for skin drops, most are easily killed with a complete group, consisting of a tank, slower, healer and some dps. However, Ubers boxing can easily kill these mobs, if you can split them correctly.

Splitting:

As a necro, I find it easy when in a group to find the red con i am after, pull him with my Scent debuff, and Snare him. Once the red is snared, I can FD and wait for the others to re-set and have the tank/dps tag.

An even easier way is to find you some giants that are in a user friendly location, and use them to your advantage. I have seen several people use this idea, and it works quite well. Snare your red, or root, or whatnot, causing the other members of that army to give chase. Run them into the giant camp and FD. The Giants will take over the fight and kill off the other mobs, while your red is safe behind snared/rooted, and can be tagged.

Just don't get up too early or right after the fight. The army that you train will hold some hate for you, and it is a good idea to Sleep off the agro. They will summon you from wherever you are and kill you quickly.

You can use your imagination to figure out how to best spawn mobs. Killing off armies fast is by far the best way, but if your not careful, you will end up with an entire zone full of giants, and that makes pulling suck.. Almost nothing can kill them off but the group, and they are by far the hardest to kill and split of them all.

Good luck!

That's the way I do it too.
Agro, clicky invis, then run around the rear of an enemy camp, wait til they path through it, then fd.

Main thing to be careful of though.
The giants slaughter a lot, very easily.
Keep doing it, you will only have giants left.
The mob that controls devastation, also controls Rage. Rage is a major PITA with giants in control.

If anyone on Drinal is reading, feel free to let the eyes control devastation.

Zone into Devastation at loc 831, -730, -52 (second right, first left in arena basement). Zone by touching the giant statue of Sullon Zek wielding a pair of battle axes. Zone in is safe with only the mission NPC, Oathmir the Outcast, standing nearby. To zone out, touch the wall at loc 164, 1370. This loc is right behind where you zone in and you'll notice a small depression in the wall marking the zoneline.

Druid level 70 spell for "Saga Skins" Quest is <conjuration> SPELL: BARKSPUR- effect- "Causes your target's skin to sprout large spikes and hardened skin. This effect will significantly decrease the amount of melee damage for the next several melee attacks and cause heavy damage to the attacker." Basically there are 9 different nodrop "skins" from red-con mobs in devastation and also in Sverag. Get all 9, bring them to pok and hand individually to Grand Librarian Maelin. He will mark the skins and hand you them back along with a skin specific page. Combine all 9 pages in a book binding and you will get your class specific level 70 spell/disc. Btw upon looting the first skin you will automatically be given the Saga Skins quest so no NPC Hail needed to get it started. However be warned if you have too many active unlimited "tasks" you will not get the mission and not get credit for looting the skin. Max task is something like 19 or 20 I believe, so be sure not to be maxed on these before looting. Hope this info helps you get your spell/disc. =)

This is a cool zone. Just bring your Gate potions if you are a melee peep. I have my group camped along wall in SW corner and I must say a very neat zone. No good loot has dropped yet but i have only killed 2 named mobs. I am really enjoying myself the pulls are not too hard and on the occasion I pull 2 I can handle them with just alittle down time. Be careful of building they hold mean Auras that can hurt your group in a number of ways. All in all a neat zone with a long mission from NPC at zone in. Have not done this yet but plan too very soon. Looks like a MM mission but first have to speak with a NPC in EW to trigger it I guess.
