Fun times in the good old days when people actualyl hunted these guys. And when one of those Forrest Loops dropped you felt like you was going to be rich :)
I don't think I ever seen the Tumps drop a Axe of the Iron Back. I think only the Braes/Craigs have a chance for that weapon, but I could be wrong.
I was in FM last night soloing these guys for forest loops. I'm a lvl 40 ranger and everyone knows that rangers aren't exactly gifted with high hp and ac, but none the less I was kicking their *** without them dropping my life below one bub. At the end of the night I scored a forest loop and lumberjack's cap in one loot, lucky me. http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=272704
These guys can easily be taken down solo by a level 28 druid. Just take your pick and pull it around the side of the fort and kite over there. I have never got any adds by kiting over there. Dont attempt to root, unless you're higher level than 30 or so, because they break ou tof it easily. Cast Creeping crud and keep em snared, and your good to go. If you do it right you wont get hit at all, and end up with about 90% mana left.

After getting your level 34 Earth pet, these guys are cake. Malise, send pet, wait til pet HP is about 80~85%, then all out with Cinder Bolt and Blaze. Couldn't ask for anything easier :)
Decent loot too. Seen up to a few plat on 'em. No items yet though.
could a lvl 43 warrior with 1750hp and about 900ac, a wurmslayer and centi SS solo these, or should i bring me druid friend? :) HG's are easy if i have a druid with me
I never have any problems fighting these. I always group with another 32 paladin. We both use 2H slash weapons, around 25/40 damage/delay each, no haste.
We hit it for up to 72/72, usually for around 45/45 or so. It hits us for a maximum of 65 or so. It almost never double attacks.
Our AC is around 650, HP are around 1050 or so (I'm in full crusty so my STA is around 175). Killing one only takes a minute or so.
Our downtime is minimal, so a solo warrior with decent gear should be able to solo these with around 5 minutes downtime per kill.

You're kidding right? There was a LVL 41 Paladin soloing 2 giants at a time next to our group. He never seemed to have problems and was for the most part chain pulling (only stopping to heal once in a while). If you were careful to pull only 1, you would probably laugh and start pulling multiples.
I am a lvl 36 druid. I was kiting a tump near the base of the hill that leads to the FM/LOIO zone.I had him rooted, when my root broke I ran ahead of him so I could reroot him, but I noticed I didnt hear him running, turned around and he was gone. (I might add he was snared. ) Well I was a little confused, being in greater wolf I decided to run back to the fort,(and no he wasn't dead I still had him targeted)where I see another giant at the door where I had pulled this one from, I tried to con it but I couldn't get off the one who dissapeared, whenI realised that this is the one that disappeared? so I ask again since I was in greater wolf and he was snared if he didnt gate now'd he beat me back to the fort?
I think they meant to name him "A Mountain Giant Thump" but left off the 'h' accidentally. That's the sound I heard repeatedly when I was running away from him... followed closely by seeing "Loading... Please Wait."
Pardon me all but it seems like after Sol came out HGs in general started getting harder. I pull a lot so I notice how hard these things hit for. Either they tweaked HG stats or they made AC A LOT more important. I have weak AC but it hasn't changed since before the patch (I allready checked and buffs isn't the change). So umm err thats all I was wondering. That is if anyone else is noticing it too. I mean before a stupid tump couldn't drop 500 hp offa me in about 20 secs. Gack uh well thats all folks
I killed one of these giants and it drop "glove of rallos zok", its just an item, stackable, just wondering whats it for and is it worth anything or is it for quest cuz i cant find it on the net.
Don't let people tell you it sucks. In the right group you will rock the mops world with the Weighted Axe. I solo with it (37 warrior). My first attack is with WA, usually get double attack around 300+, then I switch to faster wep. Great to pull with also. My two copper worth.
um, he said he got the 2 choppers over the course of 2 1/2 hours. he didnt say he had them both at the same time. i hate it when peeps make accusations that are baseless on this board
#Anonymous,
Posted:Jun 12 2001 at 6:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) U are SO stupid! You said you got 2 leg choppers on several occasions. Well I hate to burst your bubble you nitwit but they are lore so you can only carry one. It does not pay to lie you moron. I HATE people who sit here and say things that are not true.
Ahhh such is the way of things... you will all hate me, but I, with a druid and wizzie small group went over to the fort in frontier, picked on the tumps, and in about an hour pulled out two forest loops (consecutively, no less)... we were rolling around the hill in fits of laughter that we got two loops in a row off such low giants.
You will hate me for this one. Me and buddy were on the way to Overthere. As we were passing the Giant Fort we said...oh hell...lets kill a giant on the way. Stopped, the first giant that popped at the door we killed. Yep, you guessed it....dropped a loop.
I have found this (uncommon items right in a row) to be true with mobs of all kinds. It seems that mobs created at about the same spot in the zone often have identical loot (though not cash). This has been true from Kobold runts (2 runts, 2 backpacks) to HQ pelts from black bears to greaters off of wisps, to Leg choppers on two Giants one right after the other. I think the random number generator in EQ is not that random. It is very streaky in trade skills also.
What does this mean? It means if you get a good drop do not take a break. Hunt all similar mobs in the same area immediately!
I agree as well, I have seen this type of thing many times. From my feign death raising twice on two successive times (then not, for 20-30 times) to two of these giants with weapons within 2 minutes of one another.
I agree!! I was hunting in Warsliks Woods for the first time this past friday. Within the first hour nothing good. Then over the next 2 1/2 hours I got one forest loop, two leg choppers, one tree flayer, lots of jewelery, and of course coin. The leg choppers came back to back in the same spawn point (one was a greenwood the other an evergreen). The forest loop was from a spawn just to the left of the leg chopper spawn. I don't remember which droped the tree flayer but this all came from a spot north of the giant fort where 3 giants statically spawn. I made almost 150 plats selling the weapons & items. I kept the forest loop :-). After that I got nothing good the rest of the night, just coin, a few words, and an ocasional piece of jewelry. Saturday I got about the same (nothing good). Then sunday inside the fort two leg choppers again, from two different spawns inside a 15 minute period (only got one of them this time) and two hammer of flatening within 10 minutes of each other in the same spawn point (again only got one). I did not get anymore forest loops but there was a group of three lvl 21's (2 necros 1 can't recall) who got two of them on Sunday as well. Total for the weekend I made around 280-300 plats plus one forest loop. So I do believe the drops are not so random. I noticed my skills also tend to go up in spurts allot. These spurts happen WAY TO MUCH to be random IMHO. So I suggest if ya find something good (ie forest loop) keep quiet and start hunting like mad in that gereral area!! You may get really lucky ;-). Well that's it. Take care and good hunting!!
I joined a group in FM, and only stayed for half an hour... got me a loop in that time. I've been camping them for a level or so now, and I've not seen another one since. Sometimes they seem like rare, sometimes they drop like copper. Weird.
That seems a bit unfair. The groups I have been in, if you when a roll on a rare item like the forest loop and win then find another you do not roll again. Only those who did not win the previous time would roll. That gives everyone a chance to get that item. Of course the downside is people may leave you group as soon as they win a roll. I do tend to stay grouped with the same people on a regular basis so usually we don't lose people after rolls. Oh well, different people different system of beliefs. The beauty of the game ;-)
I was in a group there and our group looted about 4 things that were worth rolling for (ie. Leg-Chopper, Foreman's Tunic, Tree Flayer, exc.) and a Barbarian shaman, i think, won all of them in a row. So, maybe the rolls are poorly randomly generated like the spawns are, like how the people were talking about in the above paragraphs.

Have any other enchanters got the "that spell cannot be used" message when you try to mez or enthrall these Giants near the Fortress? I have not encountered this message before. It is not the resist message. Dixee
You can't mez any mob that has the giant flag turned on. In other words, you can't mez giants. You can charm, though. It's pretty fun to see something five times as tall as you say, "Guarding with my life...oh splendid one." Heh.
These guys... they drop forrest loops, i heard that they sell for about 1.5 k, but im not whole sure, i sold mine for 1k, but i still have no idea of the exact price.
