Loguine's numbers are right, but shock of swords too early could get agro on you, this spell will deal the same damage out over time, making it so you pet holds agro, and you dont get your face crushed in.

this spell does 600 dmg or so, over time. Try casting your direct 600 spell and watch how fast you instantly have the mob hitting you, instead of pet. Cast this spell, pet holds agro, and you still do the same damage. Umm, anybody ever played a shaman before? Its called a dot, and it decreases your chance of hate.

Your post was some time ago,but its the best place to put this other than making a new one. This could be usefull to some mages out there, hears a calulated form. Elemental Maelstrom w/o bracer Cost: 240 Damage:250dd 70 per tick(5) Total:600 Elemental Maelstrom with bracer(20%) Cost: 240 Damage:250dd 84 per tick(5) Total(possible):670 Now looking at the nuke you get at that level Shock of Swords Cost:250 Damage:580(44) to 600(48) as you can see ElementM cost slightly less and could produce more damage assuming no increased nuke damage is applied, even so Element has a DD so even that could increase(thats untested by me though). So all in all i beleive this could be usefull to a select few BUT wouldnt make it a priority.

Look kids, if you initially pull with a dd, then you stand the chance that you will move above your pet on the mobs hate list, this spell allows you to do the same damage, over time, so your pet keeps agro.

If u have the other 44 mage nuke That does up to 600 damage would u really need this???

Just found out this spell can be bought for 7.875plat (with 130 CHA) off Galarono McHalorsos in the center building of the Bazaar
More than likely someone sold it to the vendor because they could not sell it.
It is not a particularly useful or efficient spell except for maybe 2 or 3 levels, so many mages skip it.

I disagree with your post of usefullness. Many classes use dot/root combos. This spell let's us add to that damage without breaking the root.
Well just wanted to add: Without breaking root... well if you cast a DD you have a chance at breaking a root, and this does have a 250 dd so whether you use this or the other you still have a chance at breaking it, so ehh use the main DD heh.
Root related issues aside...
This spell, unresisted, does 560 - 595 damage for only 43 mana... this is before any focus effects are taken into account. That mana/damage ratio is better that ALL of the Mage class DD spells, and is only out performed by higher lever AE Rain spells. Wrath of the Elements, which is this spells's level 55 upgrade, has an even better ratio.
Sinc it is a DoT, you can also be blasting your target with other spells while its ticking away.
The only reason I see to not use this spells at any level would be aggro or if you're fighting MoBs that don't live long enough to last the full 30 seconds the DoT lasts. The aggro issues can be mitigated with a little common sense and self-control on the part of the caster :p
