Posted:Oct 22 2003 at 5:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I came here at around lvl 51 w my necro killed alot was KOS to all in zone, cept for otters. I did 2 kael raids in arena, outer mobs and poz's. Got a gg into CS to chk vendors for my silk armor quest and i was dubious to all of them after raiding kael. Changing from kos to dubious tells me that they are on cov faction... otherwise why would I go from max kos to dubious later after kael raiding?
You do not get a faction hit for killing "A wyvern" or "A cobalt drake". If you kill Yvolcarn (named wyvern), or Azureake (named drake), you do take a small CoV hit... small enough that killing in the Kael arena for about 30 minutes will fix it easily.
My short experiance so far in fighting Drakes has been as long as they are taking Damage they do not Breathe.(500pt AOE Frost Breath Weapon)In short keep those DOTS on them at all times.Died 4 times before giving up for now.But I will be back.
Heh the reason you died 4 times is because damage has absolutely nothing to do with whether their AOE triggers. It's an ability, not a spell, so can't be interrupted. Besides which, dots are only going to be doing damage every 6 seconds... plenty of time to get a spell off for a mob. If you're a non-KOS druid, drakes should be an easy, low-risk kill. Just snare, root, and launch your dots from max range. Our dots have a longer range than their AOE.
Heck, if you're good, you can even throw a drake into your wyvern quad if you only have 3 wyverns to pull. It's a bit of a pain in the butt to do that though, since they have a very low "give a damn" radius, and if you get too far away, they'll turn aside and start flying out of your quad. It can be hard to balance staying close enough to keep their attention with being far enough to get off your nuke without catching AOE.
I was in Cobalt Scar last night (41 wizard) with some friends (upper 50's) being powerleveled as they farmed for their tradeskills. I was hit several times by drakes ( I had not seen these before and was unaware of what they did). The most I was hit for was about 500 damage. One almost killed me, (he hit me twice)but luckily the druid i was with saved my butt and attracted the aggro.
I was soloing this dark blue mob when my druid was lvl 47. Ensnare to attract it's attention, followed by a root. Stack Drifting Death, Drones of Doom and Stinging Swarm on it - adding Creeping Crud if you want. Sit back out out its casting range and allow to cook for a couple of minutes, reapplying dots as required. Screech!...dead drake. One dropped Circle of Wakening Lands for me tonight - pity i already had it.
These are easy and profitable for a 51 Necro with an augmented pet... Stay well back from the mob, and stay perpendicular to it's path, and hit pet attack. Walk toward it until pet starts to run toward the drake (I use it as a range indicator) and hit Dooming Darkness. By the time dooming lands, pet will have taken the AE by himself, and you will have time to fear it with no risk of taking the AE, and the 49 pet with it's stun proc will hold off any attempt at casting the AE. Now BoD, and med until it dies or fear breaks, recast as needed. No harder than a Wyvern if you prepare a bit.
These things are a piece of cake, but me being a 51 Necro, that 500dmg AoE is almost deadly. I just Darkness, Pet, Splurt, Fear, Envenomed Bolt, and they drop like flies. I've never had a fear break before the DoT killed them. They seem to be decent experience, and are no real threat other than that damn AoE.
just wanted to add that i looted boon of the gorou off a regular old drake. From the only paladin in CS soloing drakes for their nice pp, and vendor gems 42pp each, and quest gems (standard 250pp each). I solod a few levels here... and even dinged 57 here. I have made over 10k just off 2 bags of velious armor quest gems.. and now looking for another guild to buy my other 2 bags of quest gems. The drakes are the only ones wroth fighting now at these levels, rarely some are still blue, 90% are baby blues. Drop spells and gems/quest gems. Run to otters to sell them, or to Skyshrines vendor areas.
I don't think it is stupid to sit by the portal and get hit by the 500 AOE spell if you don't know any better. If you do know better then that is stupid.
This happened to me my 6th time porting there while picking someone up that was giving me C3. I got hit but I ain't stupid. I learned from that. Never again. Kids need to lighten up before calling others stupid. I would open hand slap anyone who called me stupid to my face, so don't hide behind a website and dish out BS that you would never say to anyone's face.
BTW the drakes are dubious to me. Wondering if I should kill them if it will drop to KOS. I'm thinking it will stay dub but then again never hunted in this zone.
My 46 druid looted elemental maelstrom off a drake tonight. Alot of other spell drops I have read or heard about were all 50+. Does the players level affect what level spells they drop? Also I looted a chipped onyx saphirre and a flawed chrysolite, is the chrysolite vendor fodder or for a quest?
Like the subject says, these guys are cake. I wish I had been out here at 47 and 48 instead of quadding dwarves. The going rate for the hides on Karana is about 200pp. A 44+ druid can easily kill them, just be careful of where you fight, and whatever you do, DON'T let them get close. I haven't died yet at 49 and 50, but I've been awfully close quite a few times. I have 2 dots, grasping roots, ensnare, and 4 buff spells loaded at all times. The extra buff spells are necessary to try to prevent myself from losing sow. btw, they are sow, str, SLN, and resist cold, for obvious reasons. The aoe is 500 max, and maxes quite often without decent saves vs cold. If you want to get exp on something out here with melees, go for wyverns. Drakes must be root dotted or chain fear kited, which is quite mana draining itself. I only have ever seen one drake tanked, and that was 4 pallies that chain stunned... oh what 4 pallies, a druid, and a shaman can do to mobs... makes you sick
I agree totally. Any class with fear can also take these guys no problem solo. I am an SK and pull with cascading darkness and fear from a distance. I would recomend refreshing the fear long before it wears off because you do not want them to turn around. They due to dispell and like everyone else has said their area effect is nasty.
Also, it is a lot of fun when you get a chanter to charm one of these guys. You should see how fast they take down a wyverns.
Being I ranger I wish they were then I could fear kite them myself. They should be animals. I don't see a difference in them and the Tundra Kodiaks or, dire or drakkel wolves who are animals. Well maybe one day a flying creature will be considered an animal.
these things seem to leave you alone once you put to big a psace between you and them, very low aggro range unlike the wyverns who will follow you everywhere after hittin them with a spell,so stay close enuf to keep but not to close so he can dispell you and knock out your levitation as your draggin him down to the beach(almost killed me once)
as a fellow Rogue i will tell you this: No one is willing to sell to a Rogue, but if you oh say...SNEAK, behind them, they seem to think of you differently.
