Find Marlyn McMerin at /loc -3812.98, 1668.34, -100.89

Hail, Marlyn McMerin

Marlyn McMerin says 'Greetings hearty adventurer. Searching for the components necessary for fine shaman spells are we? I have come to Kunark in [search of rare alchemist components], but I have found the dangers of Kunark are far too great for me.'

You say, 'I will search for rare Alchemy components'.

Marlyn McMerin says, 'I have heard word of four rare components - the clay of Ghiosk, crushed dread diamonds and powder of Yun. Most rare are chips from the bones of one who has touched the Bath of Obulus.'

She wants the following:

1. Clay of Ghiosk. Comes from Army Behemoths in the City of Mist - Called Strange Ochre Clay, and identifies as "Clay of Ghiosk."

2. Crushed Dread Diamonds. Go get a dufrenite (you can buy this at several cities). In the Dreadlands, in the area with all the wizard spires, there is a MOB called "gem cutter skeleton". He is inside one of the pyramids (there's an entrance on the ground), and is KOS to everyone. An Enchanter, Necro, or Bard is required to charm him so that you can hail him, and he talks about sparklies. Ask him "what dread diamond," and he offers to trade a dufrenite for one. Give him a dufrenite (while he's charmed) and he gives you a "Dread Diamond" [No Drop](not crushed), and says how they are very valuable but more so in the crushed form, and that you would require high skill and a spectral pestle to crush it. The spectral pestles are found on spectral guardians in Kaesora and Trakanon's Teeth, and combining the dread diamond + spectral pestle to make Crushed Diamonds, which identifies as "Crushed Dread Diamonds" (trivializes at around 70 Alchemy skill, so make sure your skill is high enough - you lose the pestle, but get the diamond back). Alternately, you can find Crushed Diamonds as a ground spawn in the Timorous Deep on the Golra island at -8850, -6040.

3. Powder of Yun. Come from Froglok Yun Shamans in Trakanon's Teeth. It is NO DROP, black and called Shaman Powder. Identifies as "Powder of Yun."

4. Bone chips from the bones of one who has touched the Bath of Obulus. These are called Greyish Bone Chips, and come from Skeleton Warlords in Karnor's Castle. People will often let you loot these from their kill. They identify as "Obulus Bone Chips."

Return all 4 items to Marlyn for your spell scroll.

Turn in Strange Ochre Clay, Crushed Diamonds, Yun Shaman Powder, Greyish Bone Chips.

Marlyn McMerin says, 'I requested the bone chips which touched the Bath of Obulus, clay of Ghiosk, powder of Yun and crushed dread diamonds.'

Marlyn McMerin says, 'Incredible! You have done well. I reward you with a spell which has been kept in my clan. I offer its secrets to one I now consider family.'

Getting the Crushed Dread Diamonds
# May 29 2002 at 12:34 PM Rating: Excellent
Don't waste your time with the gem cutter..

Go to the Ice Island and loot the bag of Crushed Diamonds. Once identified, you will see they are Crushed Dread Diamonds..

This is the easiest part of this quest..

P.S. While your in NRo, take the tunnel and pickup your summon companion and Chlorablast spells from the vendor in the tunnel.. Use a Charisma buff to reduce the cost of the spells.

Summon Companion will run about 50pp.
Chlorablast will run about 170pp

Hope this helps...

To clarify this for those who may have no idea what the other responders to this post are talking about...

The "Ice Island" where the Golras are is in Timorous Deep, in the SE part of the zone...if you take the boat from Firiona Vie, it will stop at an Elven outpost in TD, it is a short swim South of that island to Golra island. The bag is about an 8hr ground spawn behind one of the normal Golra spawns on the beach edge, North side of the island. It is easy to spot, it looks like a little bag, much as if a druid dropped a foraged item, and if its not there, please do NOT run around killing golras if they are green to you and someone is xp'ing there! Guess what, killing mobs won't trigger ground spawns.

Um where is ice island located ??
RE: Getting the Crushed Dread Diamonds
# Apr 23 2003 at 1:38 AM Rating: Decent
It's the island where the Gorlas spawn. There are a few wrecked ships on the shore. It's got a few valleys and small mountains. The spawn is near the shoreline on the ice island. Easiest way to get there is this: Go from the docks to the mainland, follow the shore almost all the way around, till you can see a large stone structure in the distance off to the left. Face out toward the water, levitate yourself, and haul. Keep going straight out over the water while keeping an eye out to your left...you'll see it. It's easier to miss than some think ;P
Hope that helps, good luck!

Neg 8100, neg 6000, give or take.

Also, it may not be there when you arrive. It has a several hour delay between ground spawns. I ent there, didn't see it, and camped. Someone hunting there for Root Beer Float componentes gave my alt a tell when it appeared, and I logged and got it.
Getting Grey Bone Chips
# May 29 2002 at 12:26 PM Rating: Decent
I went to KC at lvl 44 and shouted that I wanted to loot the bone chips for quest. I didn't get any tells. I was lucky that some of my higher level guild mates were in the zone and invited me to join. We pulled the jail for about 1 hour before the Skeleton Warlord popped. During the fight, which went badly, I looted the Bone chips and gated out. I was the only one that had not pulled agro when the cleric went down.

After all the rez's were completed. We went back in and pulled the Warlord within about 15 min. At this point, I shouted to the zone that any Shammy needing this item to come loot it.. I was amazed that many shammies did not know what it was for.

I've read that iksars can do the quest by giving the items to the great oowomp, but when I wen't to check him out he was glaring threateningly. In my experience you don't get quests when being glared at. I also heard you can get the quest from an npc in cabilis, but was unable to find the correct one. Someone please post if you have any info on this.

When my shaman on Prexus did this quest, Oowomp was indifferent. Possibly because the only killing I did on that isle was to get an item for my class armor, and then only one kill. If I'm right, the ogres on the island are on Venril Sathir faction, while Oowomp is not.

# Dec 07 2001 at 9:33 AM Rating: Default
Hi there fellow shammies,

i lootet this clay four times now, it is easy to obtain if you are lvl 48-50 with two or three people, otherwise you will need a full group.
Go to CoM, head right after the first small bridge til you hit the temple area. Inside temple or on toplvl of temple army behemoth will spawn.
Seems to be a ramdomly timed spawn, but never waited for more than three hours to get hands on a behemoth. Clay dropped everytime i killed a behemoth.

Let's just say that at level 52 with regrowth and a fungi tunic I regen about 50hps/tick making this spell totally priceless. I can't even imagine how cool it would be if I were an Ogre or Troll or whoever it is that gets the regen bonus. Can't wait till I can use cann III.

Here is the social for the cannidance for those that don't have it.
/sit off
/cast 6 (the spell slot canni is in)
/pause 20 (Casting time plus just a little)
/sit on

The trick to the cannidance as has been mentioned is to watch for the mana regen ticks. As soon as you get that regen tick hit your social. You will cast canni and be sitting again for the next tick and get mana like you were sitting the whole time.

I have seen alot of different approachs to how far to take this. Personally, I will canni 2 bubs of health and stop normally. Some of the problems I have seen going farther are low HP aggros and simply not being able to take the hits if you do get aggroed for another reason like a dot. The other is that if you canni below 2 bubs of health there is a chance of losing your spell casting ability by going beserk, similar to what happens with the self only buffs. It is rare that it does happen so percentage wise I would guess that it is a 5% chance.

I TOTALLY agree, i use /pause quite a lot.

Maybe use didnt put a space in, or did put one in where it wasnt needed (i forget).

Still, i use it for direction sense in multiples, so that it goes off over and over with out me clicking it.. think i put it at 18.

Anywho... still works, regardless.

I've never heard of nor experienced an incident where a shaman goes berserk because of low health. Warriors are the only class with the ability to naturally berserk with low health, and the effects are not the same as the Shaman "Berserk" spell line.

Funny....I was fighting in coM with a warrior and a chanter (I am cleric) we were all about 44 or so at the time. We were fighting near the gazebos on the moat. Pop....An Army behemoth after about 4 hours of the 3 of us killing for exp, so wew killed him and no one in the group knew what the clay was for? so i asked if they wanted it and they did not so i looted it figuring....must be good for some thing...right? When i saw my friend later (46shammy) and asked him what it was he jumped and said you have it?? Lets just say i made a friend very very happy. :)

# May 23 2001 at 10:01 AM Rating: Default
Impossible to get army behemoth with out help from guild raid. The problem is that always a guild member needs the clay so they dont give up. I (Lvl 45 shaman) have been in city of mist for three weeks now. In the 30 plus hours I have spent in zone I have only seen a raid kill a behemoth three times and they never give it to a non guild member. Good luck in getting yours. They say quest takes 8 hours. Hehehe yah right. Each part of this quest takes about 8 hours. With this last part beyond pathetic!!!!!!!! Everything hits hard in zone so watch out!!!!
RE: army behemoth
# Jun 16 2002 at 9:39 AM Rating: Default
My 55th mage soloed this behemoth. Sure he hit hard, but he was very easy to get to and not all that hard to pull. Getting him and killing him should take no longer than half an hour.
RE: army behemoth

"Impossible to get army behemoth with out help from guild raid". Hardly. Not saying its simple easy kill, but looted it today in a normal group. War, monk, mage, shaman(myself). Not saying was easy to get(I wasnt after it but looted) so no clue how long a wait it would have been. Just not all that tough to get once the mob spawns. We were pulling to the bridge.

For Iksar - Easier than you think and worth the time
# May 10 2001 at 5:11 PM Rating: Excellent
This is being posted specifically for Iksar, but in some cases will be helpful for any race.
Also, for all those who don't have this...you are missing out as after aquiring this I found out immediately how much more beneficial this is over Can I.

Note: Read post "Cannibalize 2 quest" by Forlaen of Brell...this is what I based most of my quest on.

The order of which you aquire the components do not matter so go after what you feel you want to do at that particular time. I will list them in order of dificulty from easiest to hardest as I found the quest to be.

1. Head to Tim Deep. By far this is the easiest aspect of the quest. Go to the Yeti Island in the far corner of the zone. Have SoW, Levi, Invis, and Gate up to be safe. For myself, as I approached the iceburg I could immediatly see a small pouch lying on the ground. I went to pick it up and found it to be Crushed Diamonds. This was the most worrisome part of the quest for me as by this time I had gotten everything but this component and the quest asks for "Crushed Dread Diamonds." Do not be mislead, this component works and saves you SO much time in having to not deal with the skelly in DL and or going to Kaesora for the Defrunite much less hoping your 70 skill Alchemy won't bonk out on you.

2. Head to Trak Teeth. Depending on your lvl you will most likely need a partner. In order to save you time, get a Dru or Rng to track A Froglok Yun Shaman. At the time I went in lvl 44 with a 49 Dru so use your own discretion on how you wish to drop him. Basically have the tracker pull him to a safe spot along a wall. We pulled him back to the far end of the aquaduct along the wall closest to Old Seb as nothing roamed here for the 30 minutes we spent to set up and drop him. Once pulled, root-DoT, rinse-repeat, loot your Powder of Yun.

3. Head to CoM. After many many hours hunting here and never coming across an Army Behemouth. I was lucky enough to pass a kind Shaman who had an extra Strange Ochre Clay he was willing to give me. This is your best route for aquiring this component as I found out a few weeks later while raiding deep for my books that the Army Behemoth's camp deep within the city and are not open roamers outside of the city walls to my knowledge (Note: The city itself is an area you need to Uber up into or have a Rogue pick you in). So, unless you are with a large grp of high lvl's don't even think about getting this from killing one. All you need to do is go hang out there. If you are up for some killin bring 2 friends as the near zone yard trash is great xp to waste time with(You will need either an Enc or someone with a good root to park a couple mobs). As you waste time, eventually some high lvl grp/guild will come strolling in to do one of many epics that take place there. Befriend this grp and ask if you could have any Strange Ochre Clay they loot. Viola, you now have Strange Ochre Clay.

4. I have read some added posts as to where you may aquire the chips but have no knowledge as to whether they will be accepted when turned in, so be wary as to what you use to turn in if it does not come from A Skeletal Warlord. By far, this was the most dificult and on my part, luckiest aspect of the quest. Go to KC. What makes this so difficult is that in order to successfully hunt in KC you should be minimum lvl 45 with 46 as a better cushion lvl. Do not attempt to do this with ppl of your own lvl, try your best to get into a grp of minimum 48-52. Have a Clr, Enc, at least 2 tanks, and a caster if not added tank. Try to camp either RCY or LCY. Hope that in your long time spent there your grp will be good enough to eventually pull A Skeletal Warlord.
(Note: Make sure you let your grp know what you are wanting to loot. The chips ARE No Drop!) Yes, it is possible to sit in the zone and shout that you want to loot the chips and most likely you will be able to do so eventually, the trick will be you getting yourself there as running from zone to where A Skeletal Warlord has died can be tricky if you are alone. Also, don't expect to be looked upon kindly by the grp you just trained in order to loot the chips...therefore, do not be an unwise shaman.

5. Once the components are all aquired, head back to Tim Deep. Find the Great Oowomp on Ogre Island. You may need to A. If not camped (expect him to be), drop his side kick Ogre that spawns next to him before you start the quest as the side kick will agro you...afterall you are a beautiful Iky:) or B. Ask whoever is camping him to let you do the quest the next time he spawns as this will only take no more than 3 min to do. To be safe, make sure you hail him and ask all the questions that are needed in order to make sure the quest is not bugged. Give him the fore components.
Toot toot toot toot toot tooooot!!
You gain experience.
Yes, the spell you get IS NOT called Cannibilize II but when mem'd will show up in spell book as Can II.

6. Enjoy eating your tail off and relish in how much bigger your Can particle looks and how much better eating yourself out has become:)

One of the posts said this spell scroll is not called Cannibalization II, but it shows up that way once it's scribed into the spell book. Does anyone know what the actual spell scroll is called? Would be much easier to search the bazaar and buy this thing.

I waited until level 50 to do this quest, and it was not very difficult at that level. The part I was worried about was the crushed diamonds, and YES the crushed diamonds found in TD on the iceberg work, even though they are not called Crushed Dread Diamonds. I just used invis and walked the beach looking for a bag and found it. I do not know what the respawn time is on it. Also, the trakanon powder will not be called Shaman Yun Powder, but just Shaman Powder. Be sure it is the black powder. You can zone into KC and ask to loot the bonechips. At level 50, I took 3 other players (53 druid, 50 warrior, 51 wizard) and made it through CoM to the gazebos in the back where the Army Behemoths are suppose to spawn on the bridge. We killed the mobs there for hours, and no Army Behemoths spawned. The next night the druid tracked one in another part of the zone. It was blue to us and had the clay. Good Luck to you all!

Misinformation regarding the Army Behemoth's:

They can be gotten to with out doing the Uber shot up wall or picked in with a Rogue, but not alone. You will need a full group of very good minimum 45's if you are lucky to get to him. If you know CoM already and know where to go to get to them, it will be much easier for the experienced. Otherwise, do wait it out till someone is willing to give you the goods. The wait is worth the time if you are willing to camp the yard trash with a couple friends as the xp is pretty good in here.

Health/Mana Ratio
# Dec 21 2000 at 1:19 AM Rating: Default
Fromt the data that I've read, this apparently has the worst health to mana ratio out of all the cannibalizes. It is 67hps to 33mana making that 2.03 hps for every mana point.

Can I is 50hps to 28mana making that 1.78 hps to every 1 mana point.

Can III is 74 hps to 38mana making that 1.94 hps to one mana point. ( BTW lower is better, because it is stating that it takes less hps to form 1 mana point. Therefore Cannibalize 1 wins on that. )

The only good thing about this spell and the upgrade to it is that it takes less button pushing on the casters part to eat away at 1.3khps. And I guess in that respect, you are able to spend more time meditating making can III the winner on that respect.

Not true.

The Great Oowomp has no faction when killed although his minions do but will not affect how Oowomp sees you. Meaning Iksar CAN do the quest from him.
