I'm not one of those perma-whiners who complain about how all their spells are junk and how the EQ staff is out to nerf them, but I honestly don't see much use for this spell. At my wizard's currently level (42), I only use Root in one of two circumstances:

1) If I'm soloing and a mob resists my initial Bonds of Force, it's much safer to follow up with a Root than another BoF. Not only does Root cast a good deal faster, but you risk snaring yourself if you get BoF off when the mob is too close. Then, once it's rooted, I can safely cast BoF until it lands.

2) Gimp crowd control in a group environment if we don't have a chanter or bard.

In either of those two circumstaces, this spell doesn't work nearly as well as plain Root because of its long casting time and high mana cost. I suppose it may be somewhat useful if you're fighting mobs that are immune to magic... but those are mostly found in very high level zones where you need a REAL CC person anyway.

This spell would be quite useful if it was obtained at a low level (maybe 12 or something), since wizards are stuck with just Root for soloing until 29, but I don't see much of a point to it at 34+.
Ponder this...

I hear a lot of people complain that this spell is junk. For those of you who agree, I have two points for you to ponder:

1) This spell is great if you have a mob that has a high resist to your normal root spells. This spell seems to get resisted less often if that is the case. That is when it can be beneficial to use if soloing (also for instances like HGs as noted in previous post). It's a long cast time, but you get the benefit of root and DD to start your killing.

2) If point #1 is not the case, then the spell is not of much use when soloing because of the long cast time (you can get a root and DD spell off faster and with less mana). Grouping, however, is another story. When in a group, I will wait for the puller to announce he has an incoming mob, then I will run out to meet him; as the mob runs by me, I cast this spell (try to time it so the mob is rooted just as he hits your camp). Now, the mob is rooted, already has 300+ dmg on him, and the rest of your party is on him like stink on...well...you know. One or two more nukes, and he's dead. No worries about him hitting you (you should have Steelskin up anyway...stock up on jasper) cuz you're far enough away to re-root or finish him off with a nuke.

That's my 2cp.

Hunting Hill Giants in RM can be a drag because of all the KS'ing that goes on there ... and US wizzes get KS'd a lot because often people don't realize when you have already rooted (or even snared) something but haven't done any damage -- yet.

This spell ROCKS because you get the advantage of a practically unresistable root, and some DD. When some ranger or drood who thinks they can camp the whole hill top comes across a mob you've already tagged, they can see that it's not 100%. That's enough to cut the KS'ing to almost nothing.

Toss this spell, then BOF, then nuk and kite as necessary. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. Just make sure you have a faster casting root up too -- just in case... .

Well Visit Rallos Zek on your next Vacation. Where Kill Stealing is the least of your concern :) Hang em High next time they try is our motto.

I suck at this game. So pardon if its a silly question. Is it like the root spell where it can fade at anytime especially if you are nuking? or is it a fixed 4 ticks?
its good
