Cast , resist , cast , resist and so on ... Granted this spell has gotten my ranger up in lvl , the resist rate is off the charts! Is there a stat that helps this spell ? Neg Cha ? pos Cha ? If someone knows please tell me what I need to look for because I've been kiting for about 12 lvls now and half the time im running for my life! Is there an upgrade? I can't seem to find one in the listing...
Fear Kiting.. in JP..

Lets just call this what it is... The biggest and first ranger advantage. This spell will bring you to 55 smoking fast if you know how to fear kite and where to hunt. As rangers you have one huge strength in the game, thats your unparalled ability to hunt and kill animals.. Better then druids, shammies or any of the other kiters. Eastern Wastes, Jagged Pine, Luclin, PoD.. More then enough animal mobs in a relatively safe environment to be slaughtered with little or no risk. Many times I've hunted so long withouth stopping that at the end the only buff I still had on me with KEI.(very necessary)
52 not 53

Spell works on animals up to level 52 and including. You will get the 'mob is too high for the spell' message on animals 53 and higher.
Bigger animules??

Where are the highest lvl mobs this will work on? Bigger mobs don't matter if they dont hit, and give better xp. :)

Tried it on a Fierce Cragwalker in Natimbi tonight and got the message that it was to high for my spell to affect. Bestiary says they're level 53. Really bummed me out. Ended up having to zone out when I ran out of both mana and arrows. (

I will confirm that Panic Animal does NOT affect Fierce Cragwalkers. Given that they SUMMON (which I believe requires level 55), I'd guess that those things are 56, and that the spell max is 55.

I wound up dying to one of those (MOB that summons every few seconds AND QUADS for 300+ = VERY dead ranger).....

a Fierce Cragwalker also summons so becareful when you plan on just snaring/rooting and bow kiting.

from my experience, you can fear kite a lot of animals, the only ones that i ever got the "is too high to fear" messages were the ice burrowers in WW(once they didnt resist it that is) and rarely, very rarely a blood raven in the plane of nightmare. Illias lists the blood raven as level 51 to 54, so my guess would be that it sticks up to level 53 animals (if Illia's level is correct)

hope this estimation is of help to you, and when you can confirm a definate level, ill be more than glad to know...

The only knock on this spell is it's limitation to animals (which is not a lot of MOBs in most zones). As a Ranger I didn't get this till level 22 so no help in newbie zones when I was limited to snakes, rats and bats. It also kind of goes against the grain to wail away on animals given the Nature orientation of Tunare and Karana, but hey, we all need XP and I won't tell if you don't.

Just to explain briefly if any newbs are reading this, Panic Animal will scare the bejeezus out of an animal so that it will run away from you. Some are very fast so you can waste your spell cause you can't catch them. If you Snare first, then Panic, they run away 41% more slowly and you can literally kick their butts without taking hits yourself. The panic doesn't last long so be on top of your prey as soon as they turn to run, then cast again as required. Even if you only do this once, you can save yourself about 150 points of damage when hunting Rhinos in the Overthere, which are great XP and horns fetch 3pp+.

Well, it is in line with the nature aspect if you look at it a different way. If a rabid wolf starts nibbling on you, you can fear him away and not have to kill the mangy scoundrel.

Yes. Or, if a player is being killed by an animal, and you are role playing or just don't like killing animals, then you could try to fear the animal.

I agree, it is an excellent option for very RP-oriented rangers. I'll be hunting this spell down to use during my guild roleplaying events.
