I strongly recommend maxing your trophy to make the mystic bolt before doing all tthese combines. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for trouble. This applies to all the shawl quests for 2.0 not just this one.
Also, as a warning I glitched out while getting the glacial slush water and thought i'd combine the downy kobold fur I had with me to make the Frostshock. Bad idea. That step hadn't opened in the quest yet duhhhh.

I'm an old EQ fart playing since 1999. Originally on Tarew Marr server, now on Vox.
SO I have lost 4 pristine mephit wing veins to fails now. This is awful.
For the glacial slush water, once you find the spot you can just sit there. You dont seem to sink in this water.
Also, the collector has mercifully been updated. The collection time is every 1 minute instead of 11.

I made the mistake of making the items as I was collecting the waters. Only got credit for collecting 2 waters and had to go back.

Best 2 pieces of advice that I was offered while doing my Shawl, and I will share it with you all as well..
For this specific part of the Shawl (2.3), over-farm EVERYTHING, because you are going to fail combines.
For the Shawl 2.0 #7 part, buy a Drought of the Craftsman from the Station Store.. you will be very, very thankful you did, and don't have to go re-farm all those Essences.

Take the east side travelliing to the undead area, there is no mix of mobs so normal invis gets U the whole way.Once there do as suggested and run off largest island with no invis. But, if U dont get am item just swim around until it begins to cast, then U know ur close.

I tried this for 5 minutes with no luck, cleared the island and first drop started collecting. Also don't do combines as you get the slush, you have to collect 12 or as you combine your numbers go down, get the update then you can start combines. Also don't click the collector from bag, I didn't get credit from couple that way.

Nothing in that post is correct. You don't need to clear the glacier, doing combines doesn't affect your "collect" rate (you just need to be in the right spot to click and you will get the update), and clicking from your bag is just fine.
Just my experiences, didn't have a problem getting the mephit veins or the stonegrind solvent at all. There are a lot of deranged mephits around the lichen creep zone in, so don't just settle for the first four or so you see, we moved around a bit, I also believe they share spawns with the other mephits, so kill those for good measure.
The spiders in fungal forest are everywhere but there are two places where the vigorous earth, etc seem to spawn best, I didn't mark the loc of one spot, but there was a 4 mob spot at -860, 1050, 200. Has a chance to spawn a named. The other spot was further west to the north past the bottleneck section of the map.
A good place for the stonegrind solvent is the mobs in the caves by the pellucid grotto zl, so check there.

The stonegrind solvent is not a common drop, seems about the same drop rate as the mephit drop.

It is highly suggested that you get a few extra Glacial Slush Waters while in CC. With max skill, AA, salvage 6 and trophy I did fail one of the combines and had to run all the way back to CC for a couple more Waters. Save yourself the aggravation and get a couple extra just in case.

The Pristine Mephit Vein Wings only drop from "Deranged" mephits. The drops are by far the hardest to get for this stage as the deranged haven't been spawning much and when they do they don't seem to have the veins.

The combines work in an Iksar sewing kit.
As talked about here, there's two versions of Loam Tainted Slime. Item #47937, and #47945. As confirmed by Magelo 47937 is dropped by vigorous earth, motile earth, and the named Hungry Earth whereas 47945 comes from motile spore slime, vigorous spore slime, a motile moss, a coherent growth, and a vigorous moss. I tested when I did the quest today and 47937 updated the task when looted and combined to make the Underfoot Silk Thread. 47945 did not update the task, and combined to create Tangled Lump of Black Spider Silk.
The short version is, only loot and use slimes from oozes with "earth" in the name. The rest are traps meant to waste your time and silks.

are the silks prelootable?
Nothing is pre-lootable for this task; however, you may keep any you've pre-looted incase you fail the combines, you won't have to re-farm as many.
The same Loam tainted Slime is used in all the combines.
When collecting the slime, only one of the two types will give you task updates... and they are the ones you use in the combines.
On a side note... use the wrong Slime in the Underfoot Silk Thread combine and you get a Tangled Lump of Black Spider Silk (Quest, Weight 0.8).

Yes, Tailoring 300 is required to request this task. I am at 265 and cannot get it.
The correct version drops NOT only from Vigorous Earth, but also from Motile Earth. (Vigorous Spore Slime and Motile Moss drop the incorrect version).

Norgren Mentioned he was adding this months back, It was said to require all the tradeskills to complete. There was to be a Raid combine to make the valued by both playstyles.
