At the end of the previous quest, Loremaster Borannin told you to ask him how you could further advance your reputation with the coldain.

You say, 'How can I further advance my reputation with the coldain?'

Loremaster Borannin says '______! Thank Brell you're here. I was about to send one of my Lorekeepers looking for you. It appears that the information Tanik acquired is most perilous indeed. The Dain has called an emergency session of the council and I must attend. We don't have the luxury of waiting for an appropriate task to arise, you must advance as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have neither the time, nor the components to fashion the next few shawls for you. Ask Rexx Frostweaver about the prayer shawl and follow his direction carefully.'

Rexx Frostweaver may be found in the Thurgadin Exchange, near the bank.

You say, 'Hail Rexx Frostweaver'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin.'

You say, 'I am here for the next prayer shawl.'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardworm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete.'

You receive a Glowing Bile Soaker.

Crystalline Silk Thread is an uncommon drop from various spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. Glowing Worm Bile is a rare drop from various shardwurms in the Great Divide. You will need at least 75 threads and 5 biles, provided you don't fail at all. Combine 5 Crystalline Silk Threads in a sewing kit or loom to craft Crystalline Silk Fiber (trivial 51). Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail). Combine 5 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces with your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit or loom to craft a Silk Coldain Fur Shawl (trivial 115). If you fail the final combine, you will get your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl back.

Give the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl to Rexx Frostweaver.

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, ______, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'

You say, 'Am I worthy?'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

GLOWING WORM BILE

The Glowing Worm Bile will drop from the Young Shardwurms fairly often. None ever dropped from ancient or the ones underground for me.

Handing Rexx Frostweaver the Finished Shawl
# Feb 15 2005 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
At the end of this quest, when you first get the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl, the write-up says that you should hand it to Rexx Frostweaver. Is it necessary to do this before you can proceed on to the Embroidered Prayer Shawl Quest?

I recived no Fraction hits or Experence for showing it. But it might be flag so that wife Betti gives you the items when you talk to her for the next Shawl.

[Tue Feb 01 00:30:09 2005] Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, Fendaann, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:32:19 2005] You say, 'i am worthy'
[Tue Feb 01 00:32:19 2005] Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

[Tue Feb 01 00:35:43 2005] You say, 'Hail, Betti Frostweaver'
[Tue Feb 01 00:35:44 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'Well, hello there, dear, it sure gets cold here, doesn't it? Perhaps I can interest you in a sewing pattern to pass the time and keep you warm.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:36:32 2005] You say, 'I am here regarding the embroidered shawl'
[Tue Feb 01 00:36:32 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'It will be an honor to assist you in fashioning an embroidered shawl. It is a very demanding product and I can see from the look in your eyes that you desire to burn your sewing kit in our furnace, but if you persevere, your efforts will be richly rewarded. When you are ready you must carefully weave a spool of sacred Coldain thread. Take the thread, this pattern, and the silk shawl and carefully embroider the pattern. The result will be most exquisite. Please show me if you manage to create one.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:38:11 2005] You say, 'what sacred coldain thread'
[Tue Feb 01 00:38:11 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'Take a woven frost giant beard, two siren's hairs, two manticore manes and two Drakkel dire wolf whiskers, and combine them in a sewing kit. The resulting thread will enhance your shawl's power when embroidered in a special pattern.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:44:19 2005] You begin casting Gate.

P.S. The log does not log stuff you recive in a quests from the NPC, I know I got this but did not recive a log message.
from Betti:
You receive an Embroided Shawl Pattern.

Where it says this in the write up above: "Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail)." I don't think that's correct. My druid failed one of these combines and had to go hunt down another bile and more threads. However, this may be a bug, not sure. All I know is that when I did the combine I got NADA back and it said I lacked the skill and so was sitting with 4 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces instead of 5. /sigh

got a group of guildies and RL friends together and busted the eggs out rather quickly there for about 2 hours and got about a dozen eggs, also got good xp at 47 or so. The biles and the threads are turning out to be the bottle necks. No one is ever killing the wurms so theres never any rotting biles. And velks is impossible to solo in with all the trains....

Ok just did this last night. One attempt with a skill of 141, plus the 5% from the geerlok=148. Got message cannot raise your skills, but with a quest combine.../shrug. Anyway, I took the shawl back to Frostweaver and handed it in. I got no exp or faction. Checked and rechecked and even tried handing it in again. Nothing. Lorekeeper just hands it back as not needed. Frostweaver does not say to go talk to the Dain he just says somthing about the plans of the Dain. Just my 2cp so you know.

Silken Prayer Shawl (Shawl No. 5)

Quick Reference List:

Highest Skill Trivials
- Tailoring: 115?
Drops to Collect
- 75 Crystalline Threads
- 5 Glowing Wurm Bile (non-stackable)

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Crystalline Silk Threads = 1 Crystalline Fiber (trivial 51)
Combine in Glowing Bile Soaker: 3 Crystalline Fibers + 1 Glowing Wurm Bile = Glowing Silk Piece (never fails)
Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Glowing Silk Pieces + Fur-lined Coldain Prayer Shawl = Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 115?)

You say, "Hail Rexx Frostweaver" (within Thurgadin Exchange)

Rexx Frostweaver says "Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin."

You say, "I am here for the next prayer shawl."

Rexx Frostweaver says, "Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardwurm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete."

[Receive: Bile Soaker]

Biles: These are dropped by all kinds of shardwurms in Great Divide...young, guardian, elder, ancient...you name it. So, you could go out and just start randomly slaughtering them, in which case they will be a very rare drop. Or, you could take advantage of a fantastic feature and look for the wurms that glow! After all, this is *glowing* wurm bile that we seek, is it not? Unless you have another reason to kill wurms (needing spell drops or getting exp) then I recommend you wait until nightfall and look for the wurms that glow. You need to be careful, because if they are standing near the velium river, spikes of velium on the ground, campfires, or torches in the tunnels, then they may sometimes appear to glow when they have no bile, or may not seem to be glowing when they do have it. So I focused on the wurms outside of the tunnels. There are many of them that roam around to the south of the tunnels, and plenty from there around over to the dragon ring (the teleport spot). So I just ran around at night looking for glowing wurms. They are still pretty rare, I averaged one bile for every one or two (game) nights that I looked. If there are a lot of people looking at the same time, then you might find even less. If there are people out hunting them who are not looking for them, then you might find even more because they'll be respawning as they're killed. It all depends. If you have trouble finding them, kill a few here and there to refresh the population for yourself and others, and hopefully get some glowing ones to spawn.
Some people have reported that they absolutely cannot see the glow. Make sure that you have your dynamic lighting on ("/dynamiclights on"). You could test to be sure by heading back to Antonica and finding a wisp. If you see the wisp glow at night, then my guess would be that there isn't any reason why you wouldn't see the wurm glow too. If you are of a race gifted with good night vision, you can also try turning your gamma all the way down. This will make the world in general very dark and help any light sources stand out better. In the new UI go into your Options on the Window Selector, under the Display tab. The Gamma slider should be at the top right. In the old UI I'm not sure exactly where it is but it should be under your Options as well.
It is imperceptible during the day, however, so I highly recommend that you spare yourself the heartache of looking during the day and just do it at night. Either way, killing wurms will make new ones spawn and hopefully bring out some new ones with biles. So if you are having trouble finding any, try killing some and see if ones with biles don't turn up eventually. The picture below demonstrates what a glowing wurm should look like the one below, courtesy of Chenier. Thanks to Leafrat Pineheart and Chenier Sangeforet for their screenshots and for not letting it get forgotten!

Crystalline Threads: These drop off of crystalline spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. As these spiders are right at the zone and all give experience all the way up to level 60, this is a very popular place for high levels. If you are under level 50 you will probably have a lot of trouble finding a group. However, with so many people hunting the spiders you may not have to do any killing yourself. I got most of my threads by going around to each group on the ground floor (not worth the danger of going up the slippery ramps to groups up above unless you're feeling really impatient or know the zone well) and asking them if they had anyone collecting threads. Those that had no use for them agreed to send me a tell when they got any, and I'd just scoot over and loot em.
There are several varieties of spiders in Velks: crystalline spiders, blizzard spiders, and shard spiders. The crystallines are the only ones that drop threads, and are the easiest of the three. Only a few rare spiders called crystalline hunters or blizzard hunters (I don't think there are shard hunters) can see invis. So, you are almost completely safe moving about the spider area with invis up, just watch for the hunters. Shortly after spawning the spiders also invis themselves, so make sure you have some form of see invis on if you want to know where they are. The ground level area is otherwise pretty straightforward, except for an icy patch just past the big mound of snow that is straight ahead from the bottom of the ramp at zone-in. Piece of cake.

"As these spiders are right at the zone and all give experience all the way up to level 60,"

I guess that article was originally written when the level cap was 60, but the spiders are actually still 50/50 light blue/dark blue at 62. In the time I took to get my 75 threads, I actually got 3 blues of XP at 62, which was a nice bonus... nothing like PoP XP, but it all helps. I was in a group, but the spiders were easy for the level 61 Necro pet to handle solo (pet tank, DoT, Shadowbond to heal), and the pet was often tanking an add while we killed another.

Highest Skill Trivials

Drops to Collect

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Crystalline Silk Threads = 1 Crystalline Fiber (trivial 51)

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Glowing Silk Pieces + Fur-lined Coldain Prayer Shawl = Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 115?)

And note that you need Crystalline THREATS and NOT Silks!!! These drop off of crystalline spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. NOT from the blizzard spiders or shard spiders.

trivial in a quest container?
# Feb 17 2004 at 2:58 PM Rating: Default
i always thought that combines in a quest container couldn't fail! everyone is talking about 50s skill for the subcombines, and i can understand that, cuz they're done in a loom. but the final combine with the shawl takes place in the container you receive from the quest npc, correct? that being the case, shouldn't it be a worry free combine for the next shawl not requiring high skill or the combine to be trivial? just wondering... i'm still working on lower shawls, but researching the upcoming parts of the quest... any thoughts???

combine info straight from eqtraders.com

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Crystalline Silk Threads = 1 Crystalline Fiber (trivial 51)
Combine in Glowing Bile Soaker: 3 Crystalline Fibers + 1 Glowing Wurm Bile = Glowing Silk Piece (never fails)
Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Glowing Silk Pieces + Fur-lined Coldain Prayer Shawl = Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 115)

only the 2nd combine is done in the quest container. the first and last combines are done in tailoring kits.

# Feb 02 2004 at 7:00 PM Rating: Default
The triv is not 115... it's not even close. Tried final combine today with skill of 162, failed and got no triv message. Someone's info is screwed up or the triv has changed big time.
RE: triv
# Jan 18 2005 at 10:12 PM Rating: Decent
It is 115 as most of the posts have it. Also, you could have a 255 trivial and would still have a 5% chance at failing (without using tradeskill AA's)...

That's just the way the mop flops.
RE: triv
# Feb 09 2004 at 6:15 AM Rating: Decent
Failed combines do not generate a "you can no longer gain skill" message. You just had bad luck with the combine, clearly the Random Number Generator didn't like you that day.
RE: triv
# Feb 24 2004 at 2:23 PM Rating: Decent
I can confirm that I got a "You can no longer advance your skill from making this item" message doing the final combine today with a tailoring skill of 115.
Inspection needed?
# Jan 31 2004 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
Me <--- Worry wart. Rexx says "be sure and let me inspect your work when it's complete."

Did the final combine successfully (skill = 132) and the shawl looks perfectly complete, but do I need to hand it to Rexx so he can inspect it? I would REALLY hate to hear him say: "thanks.... hmmm, I think."

Not gonna risk it after all that unless someone says I MUST do so.

Good luck to you in your attempts!
