After completing the first Shawl quest, ask Loremaster Borannin about another task.
You say, 'What task?' Loremaster Borannin says 'Every year the Dain replaces the trophies in his trophy room. There is a reward given for the best new trophy obtained. I intend to win this year and I will upgrade your prayer shawl for assisting me. Fill this box with ten Kromrif heads and bring me the combined contents along with the burlap shawl. I will submit the best one for the Dains consideration. He then gives you a Preservationists Box. Fill the box with 10 Kromrif Heads and hit combine to make a box of Preserved Kromrif Heads. Then give Borannin Preserved Kromrif Heads box along with Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl. Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, Devastation. I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Before I forget, here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before long I will have yet another [chore] for you to complete. Be sure to keep checking. Cleared the giant fort in EW 3 or 4 times to get the 10 heads.

The "Preserved Kromrif Heads" is a TEMPORARY item! Don't log after combining! Just had to notice that it poofed in my bank, gotta get the heads for a second time...

I got the box to work, and turned it in with my burlap shawl... he gave me the faction, experience and text that is described above, saying he was giving me a cloth prayer shawl... but he never gave it to me... I asked "what chore?" and he gave me the coin looking thing, b5ut still no shawl. :( this happened to anyone else?5
Did you look in your bags? And in your shoulder slot, if you were wearing the first shawl? Note that the graphic for 2nd is different than the first.
I recomend completeing this part of the Coldain quest by killing not buying. Not only for the Coldain Faction, which you need, but also for the Claws of Veeshan. They offer great quests and alot easier passage through the Tundras.

As of 3/8 the combine issue has not been fixed. I spoke with a GM about this problem and thay said that they are aware of the problem and on the 10th of March they should have it cleared up..(patch) We'll see =)

Well as far as 2 goes it's still bugged and FYI you can MQ 3rd and 4th Shawls I do it all the time on the nameless for my guild

Wow, but EQ is the greatest scam of all...we pay monthly for our accounts, devote hours of our time to their quests and item hunts....only to have them bugged to all hell and back. Then they tell us 'no we won't help or support you getting your shawl and we dont know when it'll get fixed'. Basically a big ***** you to those of us who have been playing since Kunark and have had quests get bugged time and time again. Personally, I'm tired of the abuse. I think I'm going to apply for Guideship and start changing the system from the inside.

I had this same problem on March 1st, petitioned and got a GM to respond. The GM said this is a known bug since the GoD expansion came out and didn't know when they would fix it. His advice was to keep trying the combine each day until it worked or they got it fixed. The GM said alot of the combine containers are bugged in the same way. My guess (or hope) is they'll fix this is the next patch. The Gm said they won't exchange the box and heads for the combined box, so don't bother asking.
Also, don't bother trying to get another Preservationist's box or have someone else combine and MQ. I've already tried both and neither worked.
Thought I'd share the info.

March 1st, 2004...noon EST. Combine still doesn't work. I did a /petition and waited for a bit, but as I have classes today, I wasn't willing to wait their normal 4-8 hours to receive "customer service." (Big emphasis on the quotes.)

Yep, I too have noticed the combine button isn't working. Just sent a petition out, I will post again with the gm or guide's answer to this problem.

yup, combine button isnt working as of GoD release, this really sucks, lost the first shawl because of it, weak

I finished killing giants/buying heads and tried to do the combine and had the same results...nothing. When I put 9 heads in it tells me you cant combine, but when I do 10 heads it does nothing.
Me thinks the nerf bat swung wide and hit a couple extra's this time around...

I just did the first part of quest, then stuck my 10 heads in the box, and it won't combine. The box is in my inventory and the heads are all correct.
Is this a bug due to the new tradeskill UI?
I've tried logging out and back in and its still not working.

Hi, I'm a little confused. First, I got all my toes, turned them in, got the first shawl. Then went after the remaining heads, put them in the box, hit combine and WENT TO BED. Yeah, you read it here, I lost 'em. Had to get them again. Anyway, past that part now but I still have the box. I have the second shawl and am on the stew for the 3rd shawl but I still have that box. Why? Destroy it?

I recently did the second quest as well as part of the third quest at Level 35. The only thing that should give problems is killing the snow griffons. But you can get higher levels to go ahead and kill them for you. Just my 2cp

Snow griffons are required for the third shawl, not this one.

Whatever you do, don't give Loremaster the box with 10 heads without hitting COMBINE first. If you give him the box with 10 heads (unpreserved), he'll say he has no use for those and give you the box back - WITHOUT THE 10 HEADS!!!!
