You say, 'Hail, Chamberlain Thoridain' Chamberlain Thoridain says 'You have done well on your first trial but so far there has been no reaction from Brell. While this is unexpected, we should continue if we hope to accomplish anything. Are you ready to [begin] the second trial?' You say, 'I am ready to begin.' You have been assigned the task 'Will it Live?'. Chamberlain Thoridain says 'Very well. This trial will have you working with various types of Cosgrove Clay to create some simple statues. We will even see if you can bring life to them. I have given you a tool you will need during part of the quest. If you lose it you can ask me for another [tool], but please be careful, it takes time to make each tool. Good luck!' You receive a Pure Water Collecting Tool. Speak with Foreman Gribblebitz 0/1 (The Foundation) Foreman Gribblebitz may be found at -266, +1225, -199. You say, 'Hail, Foreman Gribblebitz' Foreman Gribblebitz says 'What? Oh, you are one of them. And Thoridain sent you? Well. Oh Clay. Yes, yes, here you go.' You receive a Gribblebitz Clay Sample. You say, 'What clay?' Foreman Gribblebitz says 'Oh no! You have been destroying the golems for their clay? No! That will not do! They are important! Here, take this sample tool and get your clay sample that way. What is wrong with all of you people? The first thing you want to do is destroy! If you have not been destroying them, I apologize for my assumptions, but you see what I am dealing with all of the time!' You receive a Clay Sampling Device. Find some fresh clay in the foundation. 0/1 (The Foundation) Go north toward the quest NPC's Darot and Greph, then enter the cave/tunnel there. Take the right fork and run generally straight across toward the northernmost cave/tunnel there to -200, +1860, -210. You will receive an update and a Foundation Clay Sample. Be warned that almost everything sees invis. Retrieve clay from a clay golem 0/1 (The Foundation) Clay golems may be found in the west cave/tunnel from zone-in. Target a clay golem (you must be very close), then click the Clay Sampling Device from your inventory. You will receive a Golem Clay Sample. Loot 1 Cliknar Claimed Clay Sample from any Cliknar 0/1 (The Foundation) Loot this from any random Cliknar. Note: This is NOT pre-lootable. Collect some Clay of Cosgrove 0/1 (Brell's Temple) Clear the area northwest of Brell's Room at +678, +191, +17. Get an update on the dais next to flowing Cosgrove Clay. You receive a Clay of Cosgrove Sample. Collect some Purest Water 0/5 (Brell's Temple) 1. Clear the room northeast of Brell's Room. Your Location is 635.50, 73.34, 22.69 2. Sterilize the Pure Water Collection Tool with Vodka in the Kiln in the room to craft a Sterilized Pure Water Collecting Tool (trivial 268). 3. Equip the tool in PRIMARY and run into the fountain of Purest Water. 4. You receive a Vial of Purest Water and Pure Water Collecting Tool. 5. Repeat the steps 2-4 four more times. Bring more than 5 vodka. I actually failed in sterilizing the stupid thing. Good thing I had 15 with me. So remember, it is possible to fail the combine when you sterilize the water thingy.

The trivial for this step to make Sterilized Pure Water Collecting Tool is 268. It is possible to fail that combine, so make more than 5 vodkas ahead of time.

For people who do this and fail combines, just go to Thoridain and say "replacement". He'll give you everything you lost minus the idol sketches. This made my life so much easier while doing this.

I am doing this quest for the first time. My Task Progression list has these three steps listed first:
Loot 1 Cliknar Claimed Clay Sample from any Cliknar 0/1 The Foundation
Collect some Clay of Cosgrove 0/1 Brell's Temple
Collect some Purest Water 0/5 Brell's Temple
There's no mention of the first several steps. Not sure when/if this was patched. If someone else will kindly confirm this, then we can update the task.
EDIT:
Upon zoning into The Foundation, the task list updated to what is in the article. Rather odd occurrence, I don't remember seeing this happen on any other task.

The Cliknar Claimed Clay Sample step does not update if you loot it from a named cliknar (anything with "a master" in its name). It has to be from a normal cliknar.

Your pottery must be at a trivial of mastery so i would say it is also min trivial 300

I failed on my combine of the gribblebitz clay sample. How do I get another sample. He would not give me another when I went back to him.
Unfortunately you have to go get another. =(

I failed the last combine for a unfired staue. with the aa's i have i got the clay back but not a vial of purest water. said "replacement" to the task NPC. Seems like now i am unable to be able to get another water. any ideas?
Camp and come back. There appears to be an episodic bug. Camping fixed it for me - as soon as I came back I said "replacement" and he replaced my clays whereas before he would only give me vials of water.

Had the same trouble on failed combines with salvage - sometimes he wouldn't give me a replacement water.
So I put the last clay in the pottery wheel and said "replacement" to him and he thought I didn't have the clay anymore and gave me both the clay and a water. It would probably also work to delete the clay and ask for a replacement - he ought to give you both the clay and a water.

The spot for the clay sample is indeed the small trench. You will see what looks like mining carts, piles of stone/dirt and a box with rocks. I got my sample RIGHT where the box is near the carts/trench.

Get update out on dias next to flowing Cosgrove clay
Recieve Clay of Cosgrove Sample
Collect some Purest Water ---------- Brell's Temple
1 Clear room northeast from Brell's Room
2 Sterilize Tool with Vodka in Kiln before each use
3 Equip Sterilized Tool in Primary and run into fountain of Purest Water
4 Recieve Vial of Purest Water and Pure Water Collecting Tool on cursor
5 Repeat 2 through 4, four more times.
