Eron Nurwistle may be found on top of a windmill, at +800, -550. You must have a minimum skill of 250 in Tailoring to receive this task. The task can be requested out of order but must be completed in order (using components from the previous task).

You say, 'tailoring'

Eron Nurwistle says 'To finalize the jewelry, and continue my campaign of harassment you will need to go into the steam factory. This will be a very dangerous place for you. In most of the areas the steamworks are massed in groups, so this will not be easy, and you are likely to want friends to help you. Other than destroying as many clockworks as you can while you are there, you will need to collect parts to make a thread that will be good at conducting magic through the jewelry. The brownies always annoyed me while I was working in the fortress, but I found that their hair is useful, it manages to retain some of their magic. This [thread] will be troublesome to make. You will need to be at least an expert tailor in order to complete this.'

You say, 'thread?'

You have been assigned the task 'Steamy Revenge'.

Eron Nurwistle says 'I found that this thread will only bind when it is under the influence of a powerful energetic field. You will only find that in the four generator power room, so believe it or not, you will need to actually find a way to get really close to one of the generators and make the combine. This will likely be painful, so be quick. You will also need to be sure that there are no clockworks in the power room as the metal within their construction will interfere with the aura.'

For the final task, Eron needs you to venture into the Steam Factory, destroy as much as you wish, and while you are it it, pick up the final parts for completing the jewelry.

Enter the Steam Factory and collect the parts you will need. When you create the spool of thread you will have to be in the central power chamber of the workshop, dangerously near one of the power generators. Don't forget that you will need two of them, one to give to Eron, and one to use yourself. Once this has been completed go back to Eron and give him the samples as usual.

You receive "Eron's Thread", a scribable book/recipe.

Loot 12 Strand of Brownie Hair - 0/12 - (The Steam Factory)

Loot 2 Steam Suit Hydraulic Fluid - 0/2 - (The Steam Factory)

Loot 2 Purple Gem Grade Faycite - 0/2 - (The Steam Factory)

Loot 2 Yellow Gem Grade Faycite - 0/2 - (The Steam Factory)

Create 2 Spool of Energized Brownie Hair Thread using Tradeskills - 0/2 - (The Steam Factory)

This combine must be done in The Steam Factory. It is a tailoring combine using any sewing kit. If you attempt it elsewhere...

The hairs fall apart as soon as you try and place them together.

If you attempt it at a random location in The Steam Factory...

The hair sticks together for a moment, but falls apart before you put it down. Perhaps you need to be closer to the static charge.

Once you find a good location, but without clearing away nearby clockworks...

There is too much activity nearby and it is interfeering with the static charge.

Deliver 1 Purple Gem Grade Faycite to Eron Nurwistle - 0/1 - (Dragonscale Hills)

Deliver 1 Yellow Gem Grade Faycite to Eron Nurwistle - 0/1 - (Dragonscale Hills)

Let Eron examine a Spool of Energized Brownie Hair Thread - 0/1 - (Dragonscale Hills)

Speak with Eron after he has had time to examine the thread - 0/1 - (Dragonscale Hills)

Create 1 Eron's Threaded Web using tradeskills - 0/1 - (ALL)

Combine 1 x Spool of Energized Brownie Hair Thread with 1 x Eron's Threaded Web Pattern.

The recipe also returns the pattern.

Weave the web into Jewelry - 0/1 - (ALL)

Combine Eron's Geared Jewelry + Eron's Threaded Web + 1 x Purple Gem Grade Faycite + 1 x Yellow Gem Grade Faycite. in a Jewelry making container.

Show Eron your progress on the Jewelry - 0/1 - (Dragonscale Hills)

Eron is satisfied with the completed jewelry. It works as he expected.
You have gained 2 ability points! You now have 2 ability points.
You gain experience!!

Eron Nurwistle says 'Thank you for all of your help. This has far surpassed anything I expected when I designed it. You do understand that it is reconfigurable? Simply put it in your jewelry kit and use the tools within to alter the configuration. This will change it between one configuration that is better suited to people that use mana and another configuration better suited for people that tend to work close in. If you are [confused] over why these tasks constitute revenge, I will be happy to explain this further.'

You have successfully been granted your reward for: Steamy Revenge

You say, 'I am confused'

Eron Nurwistle says 'Well the food and drink tasks you did for me were obvious. Just surviving Meldrath's attempt to kill me is revenge in itself. In your first task I sent you to kill minotaur miners. While you were doing the killing, I planted seeds of doubt into the minotaurs and made them believe that Meldrath himself ordered the attacks. Additionally, just by killing the miners, even though they do not directly work for Meldrath, Meldrath manages to get some of the ore, so by killing the miners, you disrupt the flow of ore to Meldrath. If you wish me to [continue] I can explain more.'

You say, 'Please continue'

Eron Nurwistle says 'Though the Mechamatic Guardian has fallen from his island and his direct control, Meldrath continues to try to gain back control of it for his use. By entering the guardian and destroying clockwork while in there, trying to get the supplies I sent you, you have hampered his ability to regain control. When I sent you up to mechanotus and sent you to get some of the refined oil and metal, you again hampered his ability to make repairs. And finally in the steam tunnels you more directly hampered Meldrath's ability to recover from the attack of the Ak`Anon gnomes. All of the destruction you have committed within his realm continues to frustrate him. If you wish I can [explain] why I have not asked you to kill Meldrath himself'

You say, 'explain'

Eron Nurwistle says 'While Meldrath may be trying to kill me, I only want to see him frustrated in his efforts to destroy Ak`Anon. Additionally the destruction causes him to take so much time on matters directly connected with the destruction that he no longer looks for me. My vengeance does not go so far as to wish him killed. Frustrating him and getting him off my back is enough for me. The final puzzle of what I had you do that may confuse you is the [book].'

You say, 'book?'

Eron Nurwistle says 'I had some hope that the book may provide something useful in further frustrating Meldrath, but in the end, I was mostly curious. Meldrath had made some efforts himself to find what the book was about, and it made me curious.'

The people type this up hate you, but I don't, so I will tell you that you need a Spool to do the combine, If you don't have one when you start this you will have to go make one and come back. Would be nice if people who typed up this guide would make a list of things you need and can acquire BEFORE starting them. They weren't even nice enough to list it in the Quest Items.

In Reinforced Jewelry Kit
Eron"s Geared Jewelry (from step six)
Eron's Threaded Web (just made)
one Purple Gem Grade Faycite
one Yellow Gem Grade Faycite

Marked trivial 250
Recipe is in the kit (at least after having scribed the first note and completed the task to this point).
Thinking that other jewelry containers may work also.

Is this for the melee version or the caster version?

Typing "Eron" in the kit results in a series of recipes, two of which are Eron's Jewelry. Both of them show the components listed above and both result in the melee/tank version of the piece. STRANGE!

Placing the quest piece in the kit alone (no recipe) with a combine, toggles between tank/melee and the all other version.

Possibly a bug it sounds like.

No it's standard for this quest series -- one recipe uses the melee version of the previous jewelry, the second recipe uses the caster version, depends which one you have.

There's a lot of suggestions for different ways of doing this combine, most of which have been fixed with the patch. As of 2/24/09 here is the very easy way to do it:
1. Invis and make your way to the main generator area (the 4 circular rooms at the middle east of the zone).
2. Walk around the perimeter of the room to safely make your way to the NW of the four rooms (don't stray near the middle of any of the rooms or invis will drop and you'll die).
3. You will see there's a sloped sidewalk around the turbine, but no mobs below the highest point of the sidewalk.
4. At the lowest point, with your back against the wall, look down and charge around the edge and behind the turbine. *
5. You will now be at a safe spot with no mobs able to see you, and totally free to make all the combines you like while the Machine Static spell is chain cast on you.

* Note: Although I didn't lose invis until very close to the turbine, its quite possible you won't be so lucky and will get agro. So if you have trouble with this method, you could equally kill the few mobs that would otherwise agro, or have a friend train them off etc.

I died a few times at first trying this.

The first time I found the low point and rushed around to the back but got clobbered.

I can't recall the 2nd time but the third time as I entered the room I saw that I was actually facing the back of the generator i.e. I was at the high point of the ramp. There may have been mobs there earlier but part of the back area at the same level as I was didn't have any mobs so I moved in from the back and dove down. As stated there there are no mobs down in the back area so if the upper is clear then come right in that way. When you get there you have a little ramp over your head. It's quiet there, easy to do combines and then gate out.

Getting there:
If you can evac in the zone, this gets you closest to the 4 rooms.

Combines:

1. Spool of Energized Brownie Hair Thread (100 trivial, tailoring)
You need two. When you're in the transformer room, make both.

Spool + Steamsuit Hydraulic Fluid + 6 strand of brownie hair

2. Eron's Threaded Web (400 Triv, tailoring)

Eron's Threaded Web Pattern + Spool of Energized Brownie Hair Thread

3. "Weave the web into Jewelry" : ( Jewelry )

1x Yellow gem grade faycite
1x Purple gem grade faycite
1x Eron's threaded web
1x Eron's Geared Jewelry

The right room is the NE room - not to say the SE or any other won't work but my wife and I just finished #7 and we did it in the NE room.

As for all the mobs, how to clear, where the safe spots are, and what kind of group or raid you need... all you need is invis.

Hint - drop down but don't zone.

I did manage to do my spool combines in the SE room of the 4 generator cluster, after the recent patch, but it wasn't pretty. As described by Ngreth, each generator has some set of specific mobs that must be killed (not just absent, but dead) before you can combine at the generator. In the case of this room, I stood in the room with no other mobs present and could not do the combine. Our bard noticed on tracking that a few wandering mobs had repopped. When we managed to get those dead with the room empty, my combines worked. Conclusion: for the SE room, at least one of the "key" mobs wanders and is not necessarily in the room at any point in time. That being said, I wasn't pulling or watching pathing, so I don't know which it would be or where it might path.

Just completed the combines on my rogue at the NE generator of the 4 generator room. Kept to the walls to not get hit with static - rushed under the far end of generator closest to Spy mob - drew agro on way in - hit escape - completed my combines. I didn't have to kill a mob, but after spending days kiting everything on my druid to get all the drops (and dying many times cause agro is screwy in there now), I cant say I feel bad at all. Yay. Done with Eron's on both toons finally.

SE power room where the steam suit is standing is correct.

We started clearing from the south tunnel:

- looking north from tunnel: pull and kill the left mob you see
- then the 2 steam suites to the west
- med up
- start pulling the SE room.
- after 2 mobs we moved into SE room and worked our way down.
- once down kill all remaining mobs (total was 12 mobs in the SE room)

and the combines worked.

Have enough to do the combine more often than just 2 times, since you might fail the follow up combine with triv 400!

I got this picture from a friend. I tried the combines in the Far NE room of TSF, the Far SE room, and in the middle SE room .. could not get to work until my group cleared out the SW room in the middle.

We cleared from the East corador killing all the mobs in that SE room so we could get into the SW room to clear it out. Once in that room there is a steam suit is the spot I had no issues doing the combine. The steam suit is on the west side kinda under the generator. No need to clear all of the SE room in the middle just clear the southern sides and pull the the mobs at the SW side of that room then you can get in and clear it out.

the Red box is a rough area of where the Steam suit and the spot is.

They must have added this spell during patch cause when I tried to walk up to the reactor to do my combine, I get the message: "You resist the Machine Static spell!". Of course that drops my invis and I get killed. Needless to say, you can't do this solo, so you have to get a group now.

SOLVED

1. Clear the south west room (other rooms are bugged)
2. Jump up onto the ledge of the spinning center generator and do combine there in the south-west room.

This assumes the 6-19 patch doesnt change it all again.

We cleared the mobs outside generator room.

Every mob was dead.

Still could not combine.

Worked in the SE portion of the 4 generators grouped together. A group was clearing there and had all the mobs down but one or two and i had to walk around invis and try a few spots but it worked with a mob right beside me. So i think only a few certain ones have to be down for it to work.
Question about the combine in SF
# Jun 04 2008 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
I have a question on this combine. If you attempt the combine in the wrong place, or with too many mobs around, do you lose the components like you do with a failed combine or does it just not allow the combine to be done? I would hate to lose the components just for being in the wrong place.

The Spool of energized brownie hair requires a spool (2 velium bits + sandalwood in a forge) and then the full recipe which will come up in your tailoring kit is 6 strands of brownie hair, a spool, steam suit hydraulic fluid.

I tried the combine in the NE room and the SE room and couldn't get it to combine. Only received the message "The hair sticks together for a moment, but falls apart before you put it down. Perhaps you need to be closer to the static charge." So I'm wondering if the combine location has been "fixed", anyone been able to combine lately?

The combine has to be done next to one of the spinning generators.

When I did my combine back in January 2008 (when I first entered the quest into Alla) I went to the room which has four of these rotors (as per task description) and got the "There is too much activity nearby" message.

There are a couple other rooms in the Steam Factory that have single generators. I was able to do a successful combine in the one in the far north east of the zone. A friend was killing the steam suits in that room at the time and had killed one wandering "steamwork" from the room. Someone else was able to do their combine in the same location without killing that steamwork... they just waited for it to path away a bit.

However, Dev-Ngreth posted on EQForums "Gonna have to find this no kill spot...
do not want it trivialized" but also that he is checking out locs that SHOULD work but are not.

I was able to keep the room with the only radiator that gives "too much activities" in cleaned barely. However, I still couldn't get the combine!

Had anyone actually been able to finish it lately? GM told me to clean any mobs around the radiator, and I did! Well not all 4 rooms, there is no way I can do that...

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I tried this and cant get it to work. Is there a certain spot where it works?

update: tried it in NE room right under the generator and it worked. even right next to a steamwork.
