Eron Nurwistle may be found on top of a windmill, at +800, -550. You must have an unmodified skill of at least 250 in Jewelcraft before you may receive this task.
You say, 'Hail, Eron Nurwistle' Eron Nurwistle says 'What hey! No, you cannot take me. I will not go back. [Meldrath] will not get me again. I will not [wait] here for you to bring him.' You say, 'Wait?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Why should I wait? You only want to take me [back].' You say, 'Back?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Are you saying you don't want to take me back? Well then what do you want? I suppose you are one of those adventuring types that wants another [adventure].' You say, 'I want adventure.' Eron Nurwistle says 'Well, if you want an adventure you will have to listen to my [story]. The more people that hear my story, the more that I hope will go and try and kill the maniac.' You say, 'What story?' Eron Nurwistle says 'It was long ago, when I was still young and nimble. I met this spectacular gnome. He was the most vibrant and brilliant gnome I had ever met. His creations were mind boggling. The most exquisite and complex creations I have ever seen. I am not sure I even want to speak his name. He tried to kill me, and all but succeeded, after nearly one hundred years of service, all because I wanted to [leave].' You say, 'Leave?' Eron Nurwistle says 'I am getting ahead of myself in the story. You see Meldrath, yes Meldrath is the gnome I have been talking about. Don't look so stunned. Whom else could I be talking about? You don't think I was talking about [Geerlok]?' You say, 'Geerlok?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Bah. He is a rank amateur. To think you would compare Meldrath to Geerlok and his family. One of his brilliance is so far above the silly puttering about that they engage in that even I am insulted that you would compare them, I who hate Meldrath with all my being. But again, I am getting distracted, just don't compare Meldrath to any others again. I have been in his employ for so long I have lost track of the years. While I may not have been one of his troopers, I was a loyal assistant to his tinkering. I learned more than I ever would have on my own, and even then I only comprehend the smallest fraction of what he constructs. I felt honored to help him, up until the very end of my [service].' You say, 'What service?' Eron Nurwistle says 'I served him by assisting in the tinkering. It was thrilling work. As I have mentioned before, his designs are pure brilliance. Rarely does he need to work on something more than once. The only thing that I saw him struggle with was the gyrospire that he tried to build with a magical steam catapult. I believe that he was trying too much to make a mix of magic and tinkering, but in the end it has worked brilliantly and I believe that it will lead to his ultimate victory unless someone kills him. But again, I am getting distracted, I think I was too long in his employ. Over the years his insanity got no better, and seemed to only deepen. It took nearly the whole century that I worked for him, but I finally came to understand the true depth of his insanity and decided I must [depart] his employ.' You say, 'Depart?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Well of course he did not take it well. He tried to kill me! Me, after I had helped him for so long. So are you [willing] to help me?' You say, 'I am willing.' Eron Nurwistle says 'Ah, so you are an adventurer, good. While I want to extract a portion of revenge, I fully understand that a single adventurer will not be enough to kill Meldrath. So instead I will just have you do a few tasks that will hurt his operations. Being inside so long I know just what to hit. At the same time, that is not enough. I understand that you adventurers do not help folks with revenge out of the kindness of your hearts. You will want a reward. This reward is actually a project I want to see done even more than I want revenge on Meldrath. I know that seems out of the blue, but as I have mentioned, I have been around Meldrath for too long and my thought processes are no longer very linear. I will actually want you to make a piece of [jewelry].' You say, 'Jewelry?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Yes. Jewelry. I have an idea for a piece of jewelry that is highly configurable. It came to me while I was working on the guardian one day. It would seem to be a simple idea, a chain that can just be altered to fit in different ways. In one long loop of chain will fit around a waist, but looping it twice will make it work as a nice pendant. Loop it four times and it will fit on a wrist. For the ear, the looping is complex, but still simple enough and it will fit, and over a finger it is just a continual loop, that still leaves ample flexibility. But despite all of this it will require someone with superb skills at jewelry making to do this, and I just do not have the talent for it. That is where I [need] someone like you.' You say, 'Need?' Eron Nurwistle says 'Yes. While I am a master tinker, I just cannot seem to get the finesse of jewelry making. While you will probably need to have the skills of a master jeweler, I am willing to risk my designs on an expert jeweler. But if you are not at least an expert jeweler I will not even assign you the tasks, even the ones for revenge, as I do not want you coming back later expecting payment that I will not have for you. So if you have the skills let me know that you are [interested] and I will give you the first task. While this first task would seem to have nothing to do with Meldrath, it will still harm him. Though the [minotaurs] have nothing to do with Meldrath, I have not been totally idle while I have been recovering. But there I go again, non linear. You say, 'What minotaurs?' Eron Nurwistle says 'These minotaurs do no work for Meldrath, but despite that he is somehow getting some of the crystals they mine. I do not know if he is buying them or if he is stealing them from them, but it is still a source for him. Additionally I have managed to plant a seed of suspicion in the minotaurs. I believe that by killing them, Meldrath will actually catch the blame and the minotaurs will rally against him.' You say, 'I am interested.' Eron Nurwistle says 'Good, you have the skills necessary to have a chance at this task. I need you to get some ore that can be used in order to make the jewelry. This ore already has magical properties and is only found in small amounts. Meldrath and the inhabitants of Dragonscale mountains are consumed with gathering faycite crystals. They are so consumed with it that they do not even notices the traces of ore that have been imbued with the magic that the crystals contain. Now this ore does not come in large amounts, so you will have to kill many miners in order to get the ore you need.' You have been assigned the task 'Not So Simple Jewelry'. These are dropped by miners outside the Minotaur cave to the southwest. Combine 3 x Dragonscale Ore Fragment + 1 x Gnomish Heat Source to craft Purified Dragonscale Ore in a Jeweler's Kit, trivial 100. Do this four times. There is no dialogue here. Make sure you have a top inventory slot open for this step. Eron says, " You will need some bag space available. Come back once you free up a slot." If you hail before one minute has passed: Eron says 'Give me a moment. You don't expect me to tell the quality at a glance do you?' If you hail after one minute has passed: Eron Nurwistle says 'Yes, this is of the appropriate grade, thank you. Here is what you will need for the next step of its construction. The book contains the recipe instructions, and you will need two of the pieces of ore. Additionally in the bag is a mold that is reusable, and almost impossible to break unlike other jewelry molds. Despite having the mold and the instruction, the chain is extremely difficult to make and will tax your skills greatly. You may have to go get more ore and try again.' You receive a Jeweler's Kit, Eron's Simple Jewelry Notes, 4 x Purified Dragonscale Ore, and Eron's Configurable Chain and Setting Mold. Combine 2 x Purified Dragonscale Ore + 1 x Eron's Configurable Chain and Setting Mold in the Jeweler's Kit to craft Eron's Configurable Chain, trivial 400. You get the mold back. You also get a Half Bar of Purified Dragonscale Ore upon success. Do this twice. Combine 1 x Half Bar of Purified Dragonscale Ore + 1 x Eron's Configurable Chain and Setting Mold in the Jeweler's Kit to craft Eron's Setting, trivial 250. You get the mold back. Do this twice. Combine 1 x Eron's Configurable Chain + 1 x Eron's Setting in the Jeweler's Kit to craft Eron's Simple Jewelry, trivial 100. Do this twice. NOTE: As the resulting item in this combine is lore, you'll have to combine one and hand it in before attempting the second one. Eron has taken what is in his judgement the best of the jewelry you have made, and given the other. You gain experience!! A reward window pops up and you can choose between the melee version or the caster version of Eron's Simple Jewelry. Eron Nurwistle says 'This is a fine piece of work. You truly are skilled. For the next task you must be a highly skilled [potter].' Completing this task unlocks the next task in the series, "Clay Within the Beast." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
