| For each of the seven general and three class- or race-specific tradeskills, there are NPCs on the ship in the Abysmal Sea who can convert raw GoD tradeskill components to refined materials. Note that players can do this themselves if they complete one of the tradeskill-specific quests to unlock the recipes, but the NPCs always yield 2, while player-made versions will yield 1-3 depending on the player's experience at making the recipe. Some of the refined materials have no known use other than in the "Collect" version of the tradeskill quests themselves, while some are also used extensively for GoD tradeskills.

Three times now I have taken my tinker alt for processing of Raw infused dark matter to Tialechaety Orrthemech, and three times she has said "Here is your Infused Dark Matter." with nothing gained in inventory.
She is eating my expensive turn ins with no return of anything?
What am I doing wrong?
Or how can I start converting this stuff myself since apparently this NPC is BROKEN . . . might be more productive to lose the material via skill-ups.

- As you repeatedly refine materials for a tradeskill your output will graduate.
- 1 raw item in = 1 item returned
- 1 raw item in = 1 item returned, randomly +1 extra
- 1 raw item in = 2 items returned
- 1 raw item in = 2 items returned, randomly +1 extra
- 1 raw item in = 3 items returned.
This is why you sometimes get 1 refined item back, and then another, having to drop the returned item in your inventory more than once.
I was always happy to get a stack of 2 refined items and find a third one from that combine. I was really happy to finally get 3 at once.
I do not know how many raw item refinements I attempted to result with 2 and then 3 items returned.
I will use stockpiled items and test an alt with zero skill by doing the newbie tasks, then going through the pile.

The JC free tasks (making "Simple" items that get you to a skill level of 54)
will open up the ability to refine the Raw Nihilite gems.
Each of the 4 tasks has you make approx. 100 items.
I tested and that's literally the half of it.
Having stockpiled A LOT of raw nihilite - my alt almost instantly started getting
results of 1+1 while refining nihilite. And a lot of 2+1 once his default output was 2 gems.
I kept track of how many combines before the default output changed from 1 to 2 to 3:
91 combines resulting in 1 or 1+1 before the default was 2.
296 combines resulting in 2 or 2+1 before the default was 3.
Almost 400 combines to get to where 1 raw item always gives you 3 refined items.
( I was really hoping it was going to be 100 each, but it kept taking more and more until I got there. )
Work on refining the Raw Amber, Crimson and Indigo Nihilites. SAVE your Raw Shimmering Nihilite.
Making Trilion Cut Shimmering Nihilite is trivial at 310, so having 3 gems to cut per drop
is how my alt is going to evolve his JC trophy.

In regards to post below ( seemed long so brok eup to 2 posts)
It seems that every tradeskill dup of NPCs has the same set up. There are 2 items for each tradeskill, one more common then the other. Take these common ones and have the NPC refine a few of them for you, then go to the NPC that refines the uncommon ones and hand him one at a time doing the Combines handing the results back and then another refined sample.
All the tradeskill collect quests have the same trivs and same number of steps ( or differet items to make) 4 items trivialing at 31, 38, 46, 54 respectively.
Also instead of using the droped materials you can go straight to teh NPC that refines the more common versions and do about 4 x the numbers of combines handing all the results back unstacked 4 at a time to get the same result, the ability to refine the materials yourself.
Note that except for handing the samples to the NPCs in the short version, All the items are given to you by the NPCs, and doing th elong version is free so doesnt matter how many times you Fail. I posted this becuase i nothiced that between ala and EQ traders only some of the tradeskills were listed with the Abysmal sea collect quests as a viable way to get a tradeskill to 54 for cheap and easy. Fact is you cna get every tradeskill to 31 for free by doing the long quest and to 54 with about 8 of each dropped tradeskill item.

I have noticed that some of the collects are posted and some aren't. They are all very easy. Get your hands on about 10 ( the jewel crafting collect is wrong i still had to go to gloria and /say work and do about 60 combines after going thru 6 raw pale Nihilite with Rwlindi * spelling) and turn them in to get them refined. Then go to the NPC that will refine the less common item for you and hand him/her one and it starts the Quest.
Using the dropped material and doing the quest that why has the advantage of giving you the refining recipe after a LOT less combines have been done.
Alchemy Quest ( not listed has a collect when looking up Sample of Taelosian Sludge).
Hand Lite Hegeway Samples of Taelosian Sludge to get 2 Filter Samples of Taelosian Sludge per 1 you hand in. Take and hand one of these to Jorlan Hegeway to start the collect quest.
He will hand you 10 of each Sea turtle lung, Flask of abysmal sea water, and Small sample of taelosian sludge. Combine one of each in a medicine bag to create Abysmal sea breathing potion ( lore magic item no drop). Had 10 back to him Rinse repeat ( triv 31).
After doing about 30 abysmal sea breathing potions he will switch you to making Simple Taelosian Disease cure potion (triv 38) 1 Taelosian Insects and 1 Small Sample of Taelosian Sludge in a medcine bag.
after 30 to 40 more combines he will Switch you to the next item on the list Jorlan's Amazing Cleanser triv 46. Combine ! Small sample of taelosian sludge, 1 orange rind, and 2 Chunk of Sandstone in a medicine bag.
After that its Wayfarer Special Waterproofer triv 54. Combine 1 small sample of taelosian sludge and 1 sticky tree sap in a medicine bag. Do these until you go to hand him the Sample of filter sludge and he do not hand oyu back componets, now go thru the text with lita hegeway and she will give you the recipe to refine the materials yourself.

So does anyone know just how many taelison stones i will need? I have turned in 6 so far and done the honeing stones second part each time. Any insight would help.

Ok addition to this. I first want to say the handing in the finished work project four at a time, one per slot, works better. So that being said, seems like about 40 or 50 completions returned moves u on to the next work duty. Those are defined below. Good luck all

I noticed many of the quests are for lvl 1-70, however the magus will only port you if above lvl 14. How do lower lvls get there.

Go to the wayfarer/LDoN camp in Butcherblock, tell the magus there "Nedarias" which ports you to nedarias landing, then find the magus there (about 50' away from you) and tell him "Abysmal".

Since the boats are broken, the only way to the abysmal sea is thru the Magus's. You can use any of the Magus's at the wayfarer's camps to get to [Nedaria]'s Landing, and then use the Magus to get into [Abysmal Sea].
If you are a druid or wizard, you can port into Natimbi, and use the Magus there to send you to [Abysmal Sea].
I used the brackets because that is what will get you to the desired location when speaking to each Magus.

You can also use the Magus in Natimbi ... which can bet entered through Jagged Pine Forest (I think) or from a Wizard / Druid port in.
Either way you say [Abysmal Sea] to the Magus in Natimbi (or Nedaria's if that is where you went).

It is one of the GoD zones. With boats out of order, the only way there is to have a Wayfarer magus send you there. Only two of the Magi can send you there. Easiest way is to go to any of the Wayfarer camps in either Butcher Block, East Commons, Permafrost, North Ro, or South Ro. Have the Magus there send you to Nedaria's Landing. The Magus at Nedaria's Landing can then send you to the Abysmal Sea.
