At the end of the previous quest, Loremaster Borannin told you to ask him how you could further advance your reputation with the coldain.

You say, 'How can I further advance my reputation with the coldain?'

Loremaster Borannin says '______! Thank Brell you're here. I was about to send one of my Lorekeepers looking for you. It appears that the information Tanik acquired is most perilous indeed. The Dain has called an emergency session of the council and I must attend. We don't have the luxury of waiting for an appropriate task to arise, you must advance as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have neither the time, nor the components to fashion the next few shawls for you. Ask Rexx Frostweaver about the prayer shawl and follow his direction carefully.'

Rexx Frostweaver may be found in the Thurgadin Exchange, near the bank.

You say, 'Hail Rexx Frostweaver'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin.'

You say, 'I am here for the next prayer shawl.'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardworm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete.'

You receive a Glowing Bile Soaker.

Crystalline Silk Thread is an uncommon drop from various spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. Glowing Worm Bile is a rare drop from various shardwurms in the Great Divide. You will need at least 75 threads and 5 biles, provided you don't fail at all. Combine 5 Crystalline Silk Threads in a sewing kit or loom to craft Crystalline Silk Fiber (trivial 51). Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail). Combine 5 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces with your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit or loom to craft a Silk Coldain Fur Shawl (trivial 115). If you fail the final combine, you will get your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl back.

Give the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl to Rexx Frostweaver.

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, ______, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'

You say, 'Am I worthy?'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

LISTEN UP! I hear EVERYONE complain that these shawl quests shouldn't revolve around tradeskills. Well they do, and I think it's a good idea. I was using a mantle of mirth up until L35 and I saw these quests. I worked my *** off on tradeskills (Pottery, Baking, Smithing, Brewing, Tailoring) to finish these quests, and it was incredibly rewarding. These quests are made to reward the people who worked hours on perfecting these tradeskills that aren't really sought after or profited on, and I think that it's a very appropriate quest.

If you want a quest that doesn't need tradeskills go do the ring quests, I'm sure they'll be more rewarding to you. These quests were made to reward the tradeskills that aren't sought after.

actually, the very FIRST step in the ring quest DOES use trade skills =p

need tailoring at about skill 82 to make the blanket trivial

For those who are wondering about the skill lvl needed for bile soaker, there is none. Its not even a trade skill. Does it look like a sewing kit? NO, its a bile soaker, there is no skill associated with it. Its kinda like the paw of opolla quest, you dont have any skill when combining the paw. The moral of this story: There is no trivial lvl for combining bile with fibers because its not catagorized as a trade skill.

P.S. how could u even think its tailoring.
P.P.S. there is no trivial skill cap!!
Would you pay 100k...

Tailoring skill 82 needs approx 500 spider silks, skill 135 takes like 1000 crystal spider silks. With an average of 40 silks harvested in an hour, that's 38 hours, not to mention the time wasted when the crag spiders or CC is "camped". The 75 threads can be collected in 8-12 hours, the biles take another 6-8. Although the 5th shawl is trivial somewhere at 130, there's big difference between trivial and trivial - I talked to someone who fizzled twice with a skill 158, so you might try to push tailoring as high as possible. All in all, this single step towards the 7th shawl takes 60+ hours. I think Verant should not require every people who wants to do this quest to attain high level trade skills - that kills the original concept of these skills. But at least, the final combine should never fizzle if a given tailoring skill is attained! When someone spends so much time on a single quest, he should be rewarded with
the item 100%. Even with Velious quests, EQ is not about quests as it should be. Getting the 7th shawl takes like 200+ hours of playtime. Be assured, if you go to places like Sebilis, in 200 hours you get like 100k pp, and make 4-6 levels. And it's even more exciting than clicking 10000 times trying to improve your trade skills. In other words... Would you pay 100k for the 7th shawl?

Why would you start with spider silks? Ruined pelts and a pattern easily go to the 20's and they're left to rot on corpses. Then used the LQ pelts to make bags with silk cords. Then you can jump to raw silk armor. Quivers go up to 115 and they just need the cheap HQ cat pelts and a pattern and you can sell it to a vendor for the cost of the pattern. Getting from 115 to 150's can be accomplished using the crystalline silks or making Wu's armor (get your brewing skill above 41 and make an enchanter your friend), the benefit of that is you can actually sell it to players. Higher than that becomes harder.

Oh, and at 88 skill you can make it so you have 80 slots on you, all large size, and 80 slots in the bank. The only reason I have 154 slots is because I have a coldain tanner's kit (8) and an Herbalist's Backpack (6).

Hmm... I think my answer is WWWWHHHHAAAA!

It's all about you, isn't it? Forget the fact that "some" of us have worked on Trade skills for a very long time. Forget that "some" of us actually have friends in the game, that pamper "us" with Silk Threads. I think the quest is pretty sweet myself, but like everything else I'm not about to sit mindlessly for countless hours and only do the quest.

I've been tailoring for well over a year. Orginally, it was just to be able to make 10 slot backpacks. Then, I wanted to break 100. Now, along with the other skills, I work them when I am not up to grouping, but still like to log in to chat and see what others are up to.

This quest is for people who have worked on trade skills. Unless, you have in the past, or just have way too much time on your hands, you won't get very far with the quests...

Uh.. Buddy above me.. Hate to do this to you, but I agree with what your saying about it being a bottlenecek to get the 8th shawl and above. However that is because there is no 8th shawl.. 7th is the farthest VI has designded and implemented to date.
Threads trivial
# Jul 02 2001 at 9:10 PM Rating: Decent
btw all. combining the threads becomes trivial at 51!! not 30. its taken me about 6 hours of camping velks for 60 silks out of the 75 needed. GL all!

Hmm I must have been unlucky. Tried a 5 combine yesterday and failed at tailoring 89. I'm not even gonna try again till I crack 100. I figure that's gotta be done as there's no way I have 80 spots open for threads and biles till my tailoring is high enough.

Any idea how much the threads go for? If you're not doing this quest or you've already completed it, you may as well sell them.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 26 2001 at 8:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) By the time you finish this pathetic Shawl and I mean pathetic in the respect of Labour vs reward. Who the hell wants to be a master Jeweller/Tailor/ This and That.. Give me a break. For the amount of WASTED time the reward is a jerk off. Another F*CKed up idea by some moron over at verant's pool o' losers. If they spent more time making the game FUN rather than WORK they may figure a way to keep half their clients instead of constantly loosing them to newer and BETTER games!
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 02 2001 at 10:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Please. Go find another game and post this kind of trash on their sites. This quest series is finally a way for skill oriented players to get some "extra" bennies out of all the time they have put into their skills. If skills are not for you, fine, go do quests you like. If yo can't find something you like, play something else. You don't need to rank on something that other players are enjoying. This series is one of the most played quests I have seen in the last two years.

The silks are not hard to get. Take a few 50+ friends and you will have enough silks in a few hours. I have tried for the biles with no luck this far. I hope to get this shawl done soon. Camping greens is not my idea of fun.
Shawl Trivial for 5
# Jun 22 2001 at 4:00 PM Rating: Default
I finished this quest last night.

After camping Velks for a week with my friends and combining the Threads in a reg sewing kit to get my 15 silk fibers I headed to the shardwurm cave to collect biles. The silk threads are trivial just like swatches at 30.

At the shardwurm cave I kited and killed anything that popped out of the front on the Thurgadin side. This was not to bad, boring as everything was green. One bile dropped off an ancient the other 4 dropped off elders for me.

Taking the bile container and combining 3 fibers to one bile I made some glowing crystalline silk
This was not trivial but I somehow think you can not fail in this area no matter what skill level in tailoring.

Next was the scary part, at skill level 131 I took all five glowing items and my shawl and combined them in a VELIOUS purchased kit(Sold at the bank in Thurgadin) and combined them with all my wis and int items on. wis around 195 int around 104

Another gent in the game combined them at 128 he said it was trivial to him I didnt see a this as trivial message though.

At the end of this quest it says to let Rexx see your item when you are done this starts number 6
I think number 6 will be easier then 5.

My red shawl is now 5AC 5WIS 5INT 5CHA 5Vfire 5Vcold and weighs 2

Good luck all
Brite RZ

6th easier! LOL
# Jun 26 2001 at 1:44 PM Rating: Default
Afraid not, 6th is about twice as hard, someone with a skill of 170 failed to make the thread. And that was just the thread, you still have the sew it into the shawl if you manage to make the thread.

I must say that, IMO, these quest are great, with one exception. (the seventh forcing a high jewelcraft skill) but, other than that, I am enjoying gathering up minor items for a good reward. I am a druid, so I could understand the frustration for the int folks and clr/shm in getting the eggs. Id be happy to help you guys out if your on Xegony. I am frequently hangging around EW, GD, and Thurg.

Questions
# Jun 20 2001 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
Ok first off...I know you combine the crystalline silk threads into the coldain tanners kit.

Could your use a reg. sewing kit for that?

Second....When combining the 5 glowing crystalline silk thingies and the 4th shawl WHAT kit do you use?(Im guessing coldain tanners kit again)

Third....What kit do you use on combining the 6th thread thingie (beard,2siren hair,2manes, and 2 whiskers)?
Then what kit with the pattern, thread and shawl?

And if anyone has any info on trivials on the 5th,6th, and 7th shawls PLEASE post..=P

combine fiber trivial less than 82,i combine 15 fiber just fail one time ,but i guess final combin will need higher skill
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 2:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would just like to give a nice heart felt ,,I,, to Verant for making it where you can actually fail trivial items. I just failed the final combine at 140 skill. Yay, get to collect 75 more threads. FU VI
fail lol
# Jun 13 2001 at 12:17 PM Rating: Good
Failed on the combine of 5 threads yes you can fail and hell I have 118 skill sucks.
45 Threads to go suck.
done!
# Jun 13 2001 at 10:10 AM Rating: Default
just finished this one.

the "threads" from velk are the pain. only the crystal type spiders drop them.
the hunters seem to have best drop and the devourers/watchers seem equal on frequency. i got 3-5 on every one that dropped. and about 1/4 dropped.

glowing bile- comes off any shardurm i got all 5 of mine of young wurms. the key here is to look for the light sourced effect on wurms , once you see one it really is easy to spot , just make sure you have /dynamic on first ;)

the rolls-

making fibre- was trivial (131 tailoring) didnt fail any of the 15 rolls thinking its like making swatches you just cant fail.. am i right on that? anyone fail any of these?

making the glwing silk- 3 fibres+bile in the bile soaker rexx gave you. made all 5 with no fails , skill check is unknown. it wasnt trivial and i didnt advance any skills making these so im thinking these to are fail immune. anyone failed making one of these?

the shawl- 5 glowing silks+4th shawl- trivial for me (131) got lucky made the roll ;)
/comfort poor souls that failed that one

Ium
Failed thread combines
# Jun 26 2001 at 8:04 PM Rating: Default
Yep I failed twice on the thread combines trying to make fibers, skill was low around 37 or 40. Now skill 96 have not tried again yet though.

You don't make threads out of crystalline silks if that's what you are getting at. Item called "Crystalline Silk Thread" will dropp off the crystalline type spiders in Velketor's Lab... They look like peral necklaces. Combine 5 of them... yada yada yada... Think the rest you understand now :)

Atm i had 19 threads so i attempted to make 3 fiber with a skill of 62 and i did 2 out of 3 and it WAS trivial that s no joke, tho i know i gotta have to work a lot more on tailoring before attempting the last combine to get 5th shawl :(

Just a thought for my Wizards friends
# Jun 05 2001 at 5:55 AM Rating: Default
Well im not trying to stop those who like the quest aspect, this post is not about that. This post is directed to my fellow WIZARDS looking for a nice shoulder item. I started the quest and spent over a month soloing griffins for hours at a time trying for the eggs(that is the bottle neck) and I finaly finished the third part, got the seal (awsome) and the next shawl. Well the very next day we raided Tarnaks teeth (TT for short and I prolly didnt spell it right) and I looted a med blanket, a much better shawl, and honestly much easier to get than the quest. But id suggest do the quest to the 3rd part for the seal which I think is the best part, and if ya need a shoulder item, get a raid into TT, if ya can do griffins TT isnt so bad. Well great fun quest till they thought the 4 eggs from 1000 griffins wasnt the bottle neck.
Stoping here

(the reason I think the med blanket is better is at 42 most have 200 int already, the str and ac is way better)

a med blanket from Tarnaks teeth huh, assume that Trakanon's teeth, and no idea on the blankets stats, but the later quest shawls give flowing thought (extra mana regen) so I really doubt it compares, plus ittl let me swap in some resist jewelry for the junk im wearing )

you get the 6th quest by asking frostweaver or whatever his name is "what embroidered shawl" he directs you to his wife next to him. My question is, does anyone know which sirens drop the 'siren hair' and has anyone seen it?

Sirens in Cobalt scar drop them rarely. More frequently from the ones in Sirens' Grotto, but the risk is exponentially greater.

As the the whiskers, they are the rare drop from the Drakkel Dire Wolves in GD.

I can't find my link to the specifics of the 6th shawl quest. :(

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 03 2001 at 4:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hi After 3 weeks trying to get Tanik to pop on the ramp in Kael, plus the 4 fails on the Griff eggs (baking 140) he finally did today, now after reading the rest of the quest details for the next part of the quest, It would seem that getting the Bile and the Threads is going to take me another 4 weeks solid play to get them, so I dont think Im gonna carry this quest on, its another attempt by Verant to make you play longer for less rewards, because by the time you got the next piece, your Guild mates and others you know have overtaken your lv and left you behind. Thanks Verant!

Just so people don't get frustrated after reading what this guy has posted.

It should only take you 10 mins to get tanik to spawn (read below for help).

The quest rewards only get better and if you are willing to do the work, you will be rewarded well.

Combined griff eggs on first try and baking was only 130+ at the time. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

And if you can kill the stuff in velketors to get the threads and not get exp, then it shouldn't take you any time at all, since you could probably solo the whole area and they can drop 4+ silks at a time. And if you do get exp from them, then you are getting GREAT exp, while youa re completeing the quest.

Pretty stupid post if you ask me, nothing in there but usually verant hating bs. Don't listen to it peeps.
