i was woundering around around gd heading to the bank in thurgadin and out of no where pops up the ancient shardwurm i was 25 mana and my pet had about 60% health so i said im going for it lucky for me i made it and he droped a lv 44 sham spell blast of poison made my night)
Can anyone tell me the drop rate of this, I only need 2 more, should I be lazy and auction to loot this or go waste them myself hehe. I can easly solo these, only problem I ever have is the strange agro effects, I run like 2 feet from it and it doesn't even remember I am there and walks away, silly wurm lol. Well hope someone can tell me the drop rate, in the mean time I think it time to work on tailoring =p.

Ok, here is the skinny on invis. Some do, and some don't see through invis. I've been sneak/hiding all around the caves for several days now. At 35 about half saw through invis as judged by the scowling messages. At 36 about 20% see through it.
As to levels, at 36 they run the range from even con (rarely) to red, so I'm assuming 36 to 39 or 40, the majority are yellow though. I haven't noticed a lot of difference in the presumed hitpoints they have, or in resists and how hard they hit.
Soloed one of these tonight. Was really easy at 44. Never resisted a thing. Root, drifting death...repeat. Well, anyway. This one never healed or nuked but still it gated when low on health. I caught it and finished it fast. Was it just a really stupid cleric that didn't heal or can they be some other casting class?
Are you sure it gated or was it a bug. There is a bug that if you are out of agro range when MOBs in Velious get low on HP they warp back to spawn point. If you get into agro range they will not. I solo'd several ancient and elder wurms this week with my 47 druid using the ole root rot method and only had the firt one warp. After that I just stayed in closer while was rooted. The down side is by being closer I did take a few hits sometimes if root broke. They can hit ya from a decent distance.
P.S. Non of the ancients or elders cast anything I am aware of.
Caster mobs will sometimes see thru invis. If you are invis, check your con. If they can see you, their con will most likely be something other than indifferent. If they can't, the con will be indifferent.
When I run across new areas invis, I'm constantly checking my con.
The respawn time is 13 min excactly, and , yes, they do can gate, and they will come back very quickly and with much HP recovered, maybe they have high HP regenerate speed?
Well the casters DO see invis, but these mobs are incredebly slow and stupid!
I'm a 40th Level Wizard and he conned blue to me.
I ran into them for the first time last night and soloed an "Elder Shardwurm"; it took me 10 min to wear him down. It came down to a sliver of manna vs. a sliver of health.
They have a lot of HP's and hit for around 70-100 dmg; sometimes you get a "double tap" for that amount.
The second one I pulled after resting to full health and manna turned out to be a caster. He thought he was slick too! I withered him down to about 25% health and he began to retreat back to the cave. He nust have figured I was low on manna and it was safe to do that. Well I had just enough to take him out so I followed him. As I got close he reared up and healed himself to half manna and hit me twice for a 100 dmg ea. with a nuke. I got my nuke off inbetween blasts. Well at that point we stared at each other for about 5 min. Then we both turned around and headed to safty to heal up and regen our manna.
Moral: They are Slow & stupid, but tough! Have a long attack range, the casters can see invis ( when they want to), and they try to be slick.
I fought 3 more last night of the Elder and Ancient veriety. One even teleported away after I saw he was losing.
In all I only got a rune and some plats off of them. But they were fun to fight.
Are these the ones that drop the spells and if so do they drop the shaman spell growth.I have looked all over the place but cannot find it if someone knows please say. Baltec (luclin server) 35th shaman barb.
I hunted the ancient shardwurms almost exculsively, and after about 12-15 wurms still hadn't seen any spells, finally, in the next hour I hit 3 spells.....Corporal Empathy, Enticement of Flame & Circle of Wakening Lands. Also the wiz teleport spell for Wakening Lands dropped.
They do drop random spells...I haven't personally seen Growth, but I have seen celestial healing, some druid portal spells, blast of poison, and a couple of wizard spells
-Mord Mojorisin 52 Cleric who now has celestial healing ;o)
Growth is a planed spell for the SOL expansion. It is not in the game yet. I killed 5 wurms ( a mix of elder and ancients ) and got the lvl 44 shammy spell poison blast I think it was called.
I have been hunting these Wurms qutie a bit as of late looking for leggings and thus far have been unsuccessful, but I thought I would pass on some info. The standing arguement about these guys seeing invis is correct on both sides. Some do and some dont. It seems that about 1 in 4 or 5 is a healer. And in my experience the casters do see invis. Another thing of note is the casters also will gate to their spawn point if you let them get it off. Had that happen 2 times so far and both times here come the wurm back to attack me all healed to about 60% life and ready to fight again.
now on to question 2. The wurms in GD to my experience have no visable faction hits and have feeling towards Race and Class just like other NPC races.
3. Ancients should be a tough solo but soloable non the less for a necro and 44, a Mage at 49, and a Druid at 44 or 49 - I have yet to test the druid.
If anyone has any question about these or any of the other Wurms in the GD give me a tell in game, If I can help let me know
I can speak for the druid. I solo ancients easy, very easy at lvl 47 with 183 wisdom I think, maybe just 180. I use the root rot method and usually only takes for 1-2 bubs of mana pending resists.
Their MR is low. I have NEVER had one cast on me but I have only recently started to solo them. I have around 8 kills only under the belt. I could be wrong but I think they warp due to a bug not gate. There is a bug in velious. If you have a MOB low on HP's and you are just outta agro range they warp back to their spawn point. My fist wurm did this. I have had Frost Giants and ulthorks do this same thing and I KNOW they are not casters. I simply started sitting closer to med while it was rooted. This caused me to get hit more as they wurms can hit you from a good distance but no more warped or gated after that. The one that did warp did not go far, his spawn point was just inside the cave. I just ran in and pulled him right back out. He was not healed at all and my DOT was still giving him the business ;-).
The agro range on these guys is quite small. That is good, I have yet to pull two, YEA!! They have allot of HP, I think it usually takes 4 of my best DOT which does 650 hp in one minute so that is over 2k hp. Using the root rot method I am getting full effect on my DOT's. The ancients and elder wurms are blue to me at 47. The xp is nice and they drop random spells. I got one spell so far (44 shaman poison blast I think).
OK, seems fairly clear to me some do see invis and some don't, and my legs are now tired from running like mad after trying to test this 8) is it possible that there's a wurm in there that casts see invis on some of the spawns,or something of that nature?
another possibility- at level 15 SGs could see through my camo, at level 35 they can't... invis isn't cut and dried.
There are different classes of Anchient and Elder wurms and one of the classes is a caster, cleric i think because of the spells it cast on me.
So simply the caster wurms can see through invis whilst the regular ones can't. I don't think there is any visible way to determain the difference so just con them before you get too close
