meant mana instead of hp.. remember not to go nuke happy because they will run after you and they have very very good range and are very fast i advise if your down a bub and pets almost dieng dont risk and stay just leave and when its runnng away if you are a mage and have earth pet tell to back off because it will start hitting again
Necromancer pets will not wield the weighted axe. I doubt that mage pets will wield them either, but I could be wrong there. I heard something about NPCs not being able to wield any weapons with a delay over 50 if the weapon was given to them by a player. In fact, the giants that spawn with them don't wield the weighted axe either. It's not visible on them, you'll only find out if they have it after you kill them.
dont remember if it was from hillok or tump but i looted some sort of rallos zek gloves and they are stackable (meaning there is a number in the lower right side) it sells for about 9 gold and has no stats makes no sense to me what are they for this page shows no mention of them at all.
I hunted these at levels 24-30 in groups and solo.
First of all dont forget that all giants have alot of hp's and also run at sow speed, you can run - but make sure you have a sow and a head start.
Also all giants are immuun to "stun" and "mez" spells, if you are unluck enough to ever encounter a spell slinging giant you can still use stun spells to disrupt their spellcasting but they wont be "stunned".
If you cant find a group or no groups are present, my only reason to solo, I tried to snare-dd or root-dot. Both worked ok, but I found out that one or two partial/complete resists (161wis) would make me need to "run-med-nuke" now and then.
If you want to use this tactic I would advise you to pull the giants to the open field right of the fortress as I never seen any other mobs wander around here (no goblin spellslingers). I normaly choose for the "root-dot-med" tactic because i like the idea of getting mana back I use up while the giants is melting.
I rooted the giant at on side of the field, dotted it and then ran to the otherside and meditated and kept my eye for the message telling me the root ended. If you stand up and start hitting your spell button you will start casting and hopefully have the giant rooted before it starts to pound you into the ground. I normaly ended up with 3-4 bubs of mana left.
The hillocks and tumps can hit you for easily 60+ dmg and its advised to be at full health and if possible a regen on you while doing this. 3-4 creeping cruds killed them and sometimes needed to nuke once ot end it.
Nice loot here also, all weapons/armor sell for atleast 11p-55+p at merchants (except the weighted axe 1p) and the feel lucky people even find/win a forest loop (1-1.5k).
When you are in a group or resting infront of the fortress grow some eyes in the back of your head, the passing spellslinging goblins can easily ruin your day if they catch you or your group by surprise.
I was soloing the Hillocks at 27(Shaman) and they are very tough. They have alot of HP's. I would pull with Slow...DoT,DoT, then root. They have so many HP's I had to re-DoT 3 times by that time either I was close to death and had to zone or he was dying and walking away with me at 10% total hp's left. I also would get several resists...no effectively able to solo them at 27. Not worth the exp, HP's, and mana as of yet.
Guess what ? I returned at 31 with my new spells...new DoT, Haste, Regen, Bear Form....and I still can't solo them without alot of downtime. I nearly died on several occasions, my defense, offense and weapon skills are all maxed, plus I recently upgraded from a Harpoon of the Depths to a Jade Prod. These suckers have alot of HP's, as I had to re-DoT 3 times. Very nasty. Guess its back to the Lake for a while.
At 25th level druid i was soloing the lower level Tumps and the higest level Hillocks with ease. (169wis) each kill would take me down to about 10-20% mana so down time was borning as hell. But there is a nice little area right near the fort that i never saw a mob wander through.
Snare, dot, dd -- had to resnare once in a while. I left FM at 29th to solo yellows in OT and cougars in IC.
Made a good chunk of change here. -- bind nearby, port to surefall, sell, gate back, continue hunting.
I think the giant fort is good for the mid 20s, but once your upper 20 lower 30s all yer killin is blues which sucks for exp.

I don't got an exact number but it's in the hell of a lot area, I had a blue con at lvl 29, nuked him with 5 hits 145 dmg a pop and he didn't go down, and this normally takes out Skulking Brutes in WW, he still had a nice chunk of hp left so I am leaving the soloing these guys for abit
They can kill a 31 warrior without batting an eyelid. I lost a whole bub of exp trying to help another group after about 4-5 groups got steped on and scattered like roaches. I didn't lose the level but the way I see it the exp isn't worth the dying out there in the middle of BFE Fronteir Mountains.
Thats no joke. Found one that got trained to the zone, tried it out sence the zone was right there. Got about 1/4 of itd hps off befor I had to zone. Was lvl 30 or so then, can't remember.
Well, been hunting in FM for a while now, gotta say these hillocks have the crappiest loot since my younger days beating up gnoll pups in blackburrow. Sure, now and then I've gotten an emerald or a couple of plat, but usually I end up with 7 or 8 silver pieces and some copper! What the hell crap loot is this? I guess I have to wait for a big score (forest loop), but haven't seen one yet. I guess if ya see one with a weapon, it's worth attacking it, but otherwise, you'll never be rich fighting these paupers.
Lol, I got one the first giant I ever killed. Won it with a perfect 100 roll. Necer seen one again, and I was there for about 5 lvls killin nothing but giants.
An enchanter friend (24) and myself (24 druid) killed 8 of these guys last night. A couple words (can't remember what page numbers), a Peridot, and a Black Pearl. Not bad for an hours work. Oh yeah, the forrest loop that they drop has been selling for 800-2000 pp recently. I'd say they have great loot for an easy kill.
Bah! that axe sucks ***, its big race only, and if you miss one shot they have 150 delay to get you maybe 4 or 5 times. so whats best??? Try find Axe of the ironback, one of the fastest axes in the game, they drop here as well "i was told"
This would be more of a pain to do that better to just try and get the axe of ironback awsome axe and these giants do drop the axe is rare though. THE AXE OF IRONBACK stats are 16dam 37 delay very quick rates as excellent weapon ratio.
LOL axe of the ironback sucks! they go for 50pp. most of the time they go to merchants. an even better 2hs (if your looking for a fast 2hs) is Nasthar Greatsword 17/30 10str. pfft. Axe of the Iron Back sucks
"Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left."
Its no problem at all with a few min of practice. First time I ever tried it I got a 150 dam opening hit, then switched to my regular weapon. I'v heard of other warriors doing 300+ crits with it to. If thats not good enof for ya, not much else is. Btw, I was at lvl 30 Barb war, and my 2hs was at 120.
Other drops include: jade shards, various gems but usually emerald, Forest Loop 2AC +3 dex/wis/agl, giant tunic (don't know stats), a nifty belt that is 10ac/6.0 weight, and some kind of head gear as well.
There are several weapon drops. With my low 55 Charisma, these are sell prices on weapons. Leg Chopper 36pp, Hammer of Flattening 10pp, Giant Tree Flayer, 10pp. Don't know about the pick, and there is also a 45dam/150 dly weapon that drops as well. Haven't gotten it yet though.
the 45 150 is the weighted axe, it sucks *** but for a one shot first strike for any large race, I gave mine to a newbie ogre warrior hope he beats up a decaying skelly with it
***** that im a level 30 mage and im gona go there to get out of hell and make some money and if i loot one of thoughs im gonna give it to my pet... imagine a water pet delay does not effect him and he will hit for 90 up to 3 times in a row .... name something at my level that can take very much of that plus the axe is worthless.
It should be noted though if they drop like the leg chopper sword etc... it sells for like 44pp to vendors. Pretty decent loot actually. Not sure on other weapons.
these hillocks dont seem to drop much in terms of loot. a little bit of plat. sometimes they are carrying a Giant Tree Flayer axe or a Leg Chopper sword.
