After reading posts on how to find the Frosty Datura (used in Alchemy and other things) these guys drop...I went looking for them with my 38 pally. I killed the NW and SW caves a few times....ran all around the zone. I resorted to killing other mobs thinking that I could get them to spawn, NOTHING! I was on the verge of calling mythbusters when I decided to go to the cave that is somewhat in the middle of the snowy part of the zone. Now, I (a froglok) had been there earlier in my day and got stuck under the lean to thingy. I couldn't get into the cave and took me a long time to get out of the lean to but I was frustrated so I figured, WHY NOT. I found a cave full of them. Good XP and they do drop the flower. All I can say is look up and duck/ jump *wiggle, wiggle*. Good luck!
A note that might help some avoid frustration: these yetis are cheap haxors :). They, along with the tundra yetis in the other caves, love running into, and through, walls when they are down under 20% health. Once they go through a wall they are never seen again -- they will eventually depop and then respawn as normal, but you lose all your mana/hard work in getting it down. I'd suggest avoiding fighting any of these near cave corners. As long as you're in a fairly long straightaway of cave you should be fine. The large cave at the end of the glacier tunnels is also bad for this -- try to pull yetis away from the back of the cave, because they will often run directly up the cave wall around 4 yeti heights, and then poof into the middle of the mountain. Very frustrating -- omg hax! :)
I took my 30 pally in there and killed this yeti solo. We went neck and neck toll about 30%. He had me down to 7% and i used lay of hands. Guess I will need a few more notches under my belt before I go there again. Had it been two ..... hehe! I gained about 1/5 a level for killing it. There wasnt a drop and I think I got 2 silver :( I recommend (at level 30) you take a healer. One melee hitting 50-70 and a healer should be ok there.
As a 46 druid, I've found these to be great xp. They hit a little harder and take up more mana than the Tundras, so be sure to pick up a KEI before heading to this cave!
I found that, unlike the NW Tundra cave, it is NOT safe to sit in the hallway near the entrance. Glacier yetis are a bit more aggressive & will come at you from above or below before you can even see them!
The best way to beat this tunnel, is to invis and go all the way back to the cave. Climb the back wall just to the point where you can still attack & cast spells. Then, root & dot. (The other MOBS won't aggro.) I found that glaciers can break root at least twice, so be on guard. There are 2 statics on the left, 2 on the right and 2 wanderers who will conveniently return to the room just when you need them! Simple as that! Med up and repeat as desired!
(WARNING: this is not a cheat, climbing up the wall will not prevent the MOBS from hitting you!)Good hunting!
To those wondering, a 43 Mage CAN take them down, but I wouldn't recommend it. With 160 INT, it took me about 60-70m taking them down with Blaze wearing the Jade bracelet.
At 44 however, it gets much easier. Send a DS'd pet, Malisement if you want, heal pet at 70 if you want, then lay down Elemental Maelstrom and SoS. After that, it's just a matter of keeping poor Joboner alive.
If you are any of the classes that can easily hunt giants for coin, then these yeti are for you. At 47 - 50, I solo'd these glacier yeti getting one yellow every 50 minutes or so and only two deaths. My guide will cover how a mage does this, druids/necros/shaman/others, adjust your tactics accordingly.
1) If the 2 wanderers are in the hallway and are bouncing and spinning around like they are stuck, leave them alone. You want them stuck for this to be easier.
2) If they are wandering the halls, then you need to conjure the pet near entrance to caves and then have pet follow to first roamer. If not, go to just outside the main chamber and conjure pet there. DS and Burnout your pet.
3) Pull with Malisement, let pet drop health of yeti for roughly 10 seconds. Throw SoS (before 49) and Lava Bolt (after 49), wait a tic, cast again. Loot yeti corpse.
4) After you break all 4 statics, just move in to their cave and pick them off as they pop. By the time I medded to full from 50m, there was always a yeti to be killed.
Using the above method, here is my results from this past weekend:
48 = 4 hours 49 = 5 hours 50 = 9.5 hours
And nobody ever comes here as it is hard to find and there are spiders/drolvargs/brutes/giants wandering all around the entrance (which is also tough to find). DL exp doesn't get better than this.
Would a 44 mage be able to solo these with your method, or must they be a bit higer(more mana and can get better pets)? I Just came from the tundra Yeti caves and that was the best exp I have ever had and I want that same exp again till 50.
I started here as a 49 Mage and I would not have been able to solo these all and hold the room. I could have soloed 1, but you need the 49 pets to do this well. A partner works just as good before 49 I imiagine also.
I followed the tactics of the post above yours with good results. Hope I was helpful.
I am currently level 48 and have been duoing them with a Druid friend (level 50) of mine for some time.
The two that spawn in the halls will agro, however the ones in the cave do not.
We have been using the tactic of him dotting them (one with root) while I regen & self-regen, when root breaks I melee with dmg sheild. Rinse and repeat.
He uses a blue mana or less on one kill and never has to heal me, regen takes care of that or worse case scenario I heal myself from time to time.
A few questions. Do these wander or stick to a spawn point, can a 36 druid and 36 necro take one alone, and do they resist often. Thanks in advance for the help.
These yeti are considerable harder than the tundra yeti but they look indentical basically. So if you wanted to see how they look like, take a look at the tundra yeti. There are three yeti caves, the ones along the walls are homes to the tundra yeti while the hole in the ground is the home of the glacier yeti. Have fun.
These guys live in a cave just a bit east of the giant fort. It looks like a small hut, but inside there is an ice tunnel working its way in. Seem to be 2 wandering spawns in the tunnel and 5 static spawns in the cave at the end. Also there don't seem to be any other wandering mobs (giants or spiders) that end up in the tunnel. About a 6 minute spawn time.
