Happy they redid this

I was gone the last time they revamped BB. I am glad I got to visit it this time, since I was like level 5 (pre-kunark) the last time I visited BB. Talk about a blast from the past.
Time for some payback for that corpse I lost there (stupid tree fake floor...)

In PoK East of Dogle bank is a gnome NPC alongside a building named Thach Jerden - you hand him one of these pieces and he returns a class specfic piece.

Quote:
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:33 2009] You say, 'Hail, Thach Jerden'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:33 2009] Thach Jerden says 'Greetings, adventurer. Have you perhaps heard of these strange [changes] that have been happening to familiar areas?'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:39 2009] You say, 'what changes'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:39 2009] Thach Jerden says 'They're very odd. For a brief period suddenly areas that we thought we knew will be transformed. The monsters that used to inhabit them will suddenly gain in strength and abilities, and their [equipment] will be changed as well.'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:47 2009] You say, 'some equipment'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:48 2009] Thach Jerden says 'Some of them have come into possession of some wonderful [glowing] armors that I find endlessly fascinating, but I have not been able to obtain them on my own.'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:56 2009] You say, 'what glowing'
[Tue Apr 28 01:42:57 2009] Thach Jerden says 'Have you found some? May I have them? I'll offer you a piece of [armor] from my own collection in trade. They're... very, very nice.'
[Tue Apr 28 01:43:04 2009] You say, 'what armor'
[Tue Apr 28 01:43:05 2009] Thach Jerden says 'I will match whatever type of armor you bring me. An arm for an arm, you might say. I have several different types of bracers or wristbands, though, so if I give you one that you don't want, hand it back to me and I will exchange it for another that you can use.'

Glowing Athlai drops randomly in the revamped Blackburrow (more commonly from nameds, but can drop from any mob in the zone).

For those who are "loc challenged" :) here is how to find this guy:

1) Stand at the BOTTOM of the spiral tower ramp at the south east corner of the Library mountain. This is not too far from Shroudkeeper Learu.

2) Head due SOUTH towards the Smithing/Tinkering tradeskill building.

3) Thach Jerden is right there outside the building, north side, in the corner.

I read on the EQ website that BB, Unrest, Cazic thule, and L-guk will be revamped at the end of April / beginning of may. Can't remember offhand which, but 2 are scheduled to go live april 27, and the other 2 may 11. It did say that those dates are subject to change between now and then. however, now we know they're coming, or supposed to be.

Does anyone know if they are ever going to be bringing darkened lguk and reinforced bb back? I've been wondering because like usual, when I decide to take a break from EQ, sony decides to throw a big event and I come back right as it ends lol. I'm just trying to figure out if this stuff was a one time deal or what not.

I don't share your fondness for old graphics zones; to the contrary, I love to see old world zones brought up to date. I frankly, find it sad that there are still so many old-world graphics NPCs and mobs (especially when there are already "new" graphics for all the NPCs and even the vast-majority of the mobs). In my opinion, most of the old-world zones (and especially the home cities) have become obsolete and are wasting valuable server space. I, for one, would like to see ALL of the old world zone (especially the starting cities) eventually revamped to make them both visually appealing and useful.
are they bringing this back anytime soon?

Oh I remember the days of hunting here and the first time I got lost here couldnt find my body for 3 days finally a necro summoned it for me..I am happy to see that Sony has finally done stuff like this great zone gets people returning for the Living Legacy event to experince their favorte old world zones.

I hear rumors that the next expansion will have sometime to do with the Unmasked Rifseekers that spwan randomly in BB that drop double exp potions. And I hear it may be called Seeds of Destruction(SoD)

The zone is exactly the same as it always has been exept the gnols are of course 75+ the agro range seems to be the same, very small agro range can get very close to the Gnoll without agro. Also the trains are as you guys remember nasty. All the same mobs are there and the Unmasked Riftseekers are the only new mobs which cannot be slowed or rooted.

The Gnoll Pups hit for about 1k other mobs hit for about 1700-2000. Nameds hit for upwards of 2500 and summon.

Actually it does. by now i'm sure everyone knows but Seeds of Destruction (SoD) basically says the Riftseekers and Muramites as a whole have torn a rift to the Plane of Time and invaded it. Using the PoTime to destroy Norrath at it's core. from here players will meet Zebuxoruk in the ruins of PoTime and in all that remains of Norrath and use the remaining portals to travel to the greatest moments in EQ past (both actual in game events and things that were once only the best of EQ lore) such as the founding of Qeynos, the battle of Bloody Kithicor and the Iksar rule over Kunark and Sebilis. The Muramites have invaded all these time periods and it is up to us (the players) to make sure events unfold as they were meant to without interferance from the Gods of Discord and save Norrath.

If you watch the video it shows that the following zones will be being readded. Qeynos (as it was BEFORE the current city was constructed), Kurn's Tower, Kithicor and yes....Blackburrow. Plus many many more and also new realms in Discord where the Discord Gods themselves reside. Obviously these will not be replacing the zones as they were now but will be added as completely new zones in SoD as these lands were in their primal state.

So yes Blackburrow, Lower Guk, the Riftseekers xp pot droppers, the Riftseekers LoN cards, and the new RSS hotzone WAS a prelude to SoD. Blackburrow is "reinforced" to prep for the Muramite atack and Lower Guk was "Darkened" because they were corrupted by the Muramites. The Gnolls and Frogloks sensed something and October 21st will prove them right ;)

It's reinforced because it's stronger and it's darkened because it's stronger, that's it. I swear to god they better not take away any more old zones. I'd be totally fine if they kept their inept hands off every old zone and just made new ones that were used in new expansions but up till now they have been destroying good old zones with the stupid graphics they for some reason think are better, they just lag more. Hopefully this marks the end of them ruining zones, though I do hope they do those temporary revamps maybe once a year, it was good exp and all the drops were extremely fun to try and get...

Any quests that previously involved regular Blackburrow can still be completed here (for example the Gnoll Teeth quests)....the only catch is the quest is clearly harder now (due to harder mobs) and obviously not worth the rewards until zone gets changed back. Just mentioning old quest items still drop here off the stronger gnolls. just like the Ghouls in Guk still drop mage 1.0 page etc :)

The zone revamp is great for the occasional player like me. My main is Lixsa, an 80 Beastlord on Bertoxx, and he is mid-level raid geared. Some slots are nearly impossible to upgrade with raid items...there simply isn't enough raid gear to go around. In 5 hours yesterday my group managed to pick up about 17 items with double digit stats and 350 hp/mana/end. While this zone will not replace our regular raid progression, it will help to equip some of our newer members with the gear that they need to survive in the mid-level raid zones that we are attempting. Under no circumstances should you buy this gear. It is wayyy too easy to farm and in just a few hours an entire group can get a lot of upgrades. BTW a FD puller is almost mandatory considering the tight quarters and the fact that the revamped MOBs hit like trucks and you'll almost always get 1-3 adds. Bind your soul near your camp, expect to die frequently, and enjoy the upgrades. I died 6 times in 5 hours, got 2 pieces for myself, 1 for my alts, picked up 7 AAs, and my group got another 11 items for themselves and guildies.

Amazing that after 8 years I can come back to BB and get owned again. Ha!

I zoned in using a 60th Druid just to check it out. Naturally everything on track was red. 60+ people in the zone, yowza! I watched a group fight a gnoll, seemed to hit around 1K, so I imagine everything is a 1K+ hitter.

-----

Decided to try to fight a gnoll with my 71 Mage 63 Cleric... My pet with about 12k HP died in about 14 seconds. a gnoll hit the pet for 1700, a gnoll pup was hitting for 1k.

Yeah, they're all nasty customers.

A 71 SK friend of mine can solo a single Gnoll PUP (cons
dark blue at 69) with his HT disc.

I haven't been able to get a group there yet, but
I do have 4 Gnollish Chain pieces now.
