wait...hitpoints allowed?
# Dec 17 2003 at 1:51 PM Rating: Decent
does it saying "hitpoints allowed" mean that it works on heals over time too?

Another one of the limits says "detrimrental only", so no.

Hitpoints allowed means that detrimental spells that DO not affect hitpoints, will not be affected by this focus item. For example, the druid ensnare spell is not affected, however, the SK snare, which is also a DoT, would we affected.

I think that "Hitpoints Allowed" means that the DoT spell heals the caster(Nero DoT that steals HP over time) is allowed and the caster will get more HP.

Change
# Jul 31 2003 at 5:41 AM Rating: Decent
Having a Shaman and a Necro I have to say that this being changed isn't what I would like to call the highest thing on the Priority list for SOE. I mean...come on??? isn't there more pressing matters than ******** with this kinda crap? That aside, my necro is sorry to see Extended Affliction go...even if I got one extra tick out of my darkness line...it was worth it over 20% more on a dot. (mabey)

Well yes and no. It is somewhat the same. As of the last (7/10 or 11) patch extended affliction has been changed to burning affliction. Instead of prolonging the spell duration, they have made it so it does more damage over the same time. At least if I read the patch message correctly.
Question about 20% extension
# Apr 07 2003 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Currently, I have a DOT that is 7 ticks, and at 44 (the last level for EA2) a DOT that will be 9 ticks long. 20% of 7 is 1.4 ticks longer....I'm gonna assume they round to the nearest tick, so in reality I'm only gettin 1 tick more from the 7 tick spells. While on the 9 tick one, it's 1.8 ticks longer, and I'm hoping (demanding) that it gets rounded to 2 ticks, and not back down to 1. Can anyone confirm or refute my feelings about this? Being a beastlord, I'd like to get the most out of my DOT's, but if I'm only gonna get 1 tick extra on the 9 tick ones, then forget it.
RE: Question about 20% extension
# Jun 15 2003 at 4:24 PM Rating: Default
Can't answer the rounding question, though I can tell you that asking, demanding, or whatever of SOE is a waste of time. They have the worst customer services dept of anyonr I have ever come across. They NEVER read an email before replying (I could show numerous examples) but would rather send back a reply which doesn't address any of your questions. SO, good luck demanding; I'll assume the usual from SOE - it'll be rounded down.

Well, since for just about every other purpose, EQ truncates, rather than rounding, I'd say 1 tick.
Root/Snare No Longer Enhanced
# Feb 14 2003 at 7:25 PM Rating: Decent
The following quote was from Alan Vancouvering, regarding the Feb 4th patch:

"With the patch on February 4th we fixed a bug with Affliction foci, but we failed to mention it in the patch message. We corrected a bug that was allowing these foci to work for too many spell types, including things like snares and slow. Affliction foci now only work on damage over time spells."
Increase total damage by DoTs?
# Dec 02 2002 at 9:37 PM Rating: Decent
I presume since DoTs last longer using items with this focus effect they ultimatly do more damage as well. Can anyone confirm this?
RE: Increase total damage by DoTs?
# Jan 27 2003 at 10:52 AM Rating: Decent
They still do as much damage on each tick. A 10 tick DOT will go 12 ticks, so that's 20% more damage. All your DOTs level 44 or less will do 20% more damage.

This isn't a spell Anlorn, it is a focus effect. I don't know what you looted in GD, but it wasn't this.

There is no minimum level for focus items
RE: Min lvl
# Feb 13 2003 at 5:32 PM Rating: Default
Like he said, no lvl req on focus effects, and I'd like to point out that focus effects and procs are different. procs are randomly occuring effects while attacking, and focus effects enhance spells all the time when you cast them.
Hmmm... Works on Root for me
# Oct 31 2002 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know what is up with this, but I can say that this works EVERY time I cast root with my Wizard. I have the kobold hide boots with this effect, and it has saved my life more than once since it makes my root last longer.
Anything Detrimental lasting over a minute
# Oct 31 2002 at 12:59 PM Rating: Excellent
Root is a "Detrimental" spell (and lasts lasts longer than 6 ticks if it's not broken). For that matter, so are "Weaken", "Disempower", SLOW-line(!) and other debuffs. They don't cause damage, but they can sure make a difference.

I am just ITCHING to get an Extended Affliction III item (most of the spells I use are over lvl 44 now), it's a HUGE benfit to shamen, because a LOT of what we do is soften up up the MoBs for the melees.
(D)OT
# Sep 29 2002 at 9:26 AM Rating: Decent
This extends the duration of you DoTs. Ok, maybe The word "Damage" over time is misleading. This works on any spell that works over time. For example, I equiped this on my enchanter. Every mez, charm, Dot, root, I cast makes these items sparkle. Why? Because they all work over time and have set durations which these focus items extend. It won't work on beneficial spells over time, so for those you need to get extended enhancement items.

root and snare
# Aug 27 2002 at 12:50 AM Rating: Decent
Everytime I use root and snare I get the message about boots sparkling and before my dot (drone of doom) would not last as long as a root that lasted full duration. Now after getting this item the same is still true. When root holds for full duration it will out last my dots by the same amount of time it did before leading to the conclusion that (A)It has not effected anything or (B) both my root and dots last longer

RE: root and snare
# Feb 13 2003 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
Well, I'd say (B). They are both detrimental and last longer than 36 seconds, so there is no reason why they wouldn't

DoT extra damage.
# Aug 25 2002 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
Assuming that my math is correct. Drones of doom is doing 340 over 10 ticks. a 20% increase would be 12 ticks instead, each tick is doing 34, so for 12 ticks it would do closer to 408.

(my math was originally wrong.. oops)

Extra damage on Dots?
# Aug 02 2002 at 6:47 AM Rating: Decent

The spells I've tried so far are drones of doom (normally 340hp dmg) and immolate (normally 240hp dmg). Does anyone know how much extra damage is done by using this effect. If I remember to do a test I'll post the result....

Enchanter Usable
# Jul 26 2002 at 9:56 AM Rating: Decent
I have these on my enchanter. The effect is triggered with root line and dot line. I know that the druid/ranger line of root spell is differant from the enchanter line. Enchanters root spells do not do any damage. Maybe the effect works for one and not the other?
I will try and test this.
Is there a minimum level for the effect?
# Jun 24 2002 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if there is a minimum level for the effect? I haven't seen any of the 'extended affliction' messages when casting; I do see a 'your kobold boots begin to glow or spark' or something. Lately, I've been using snare, root, burst of fire and invoke lightning, but haven't noticed the effect. Previously, using flame lick, I think I got the 'your boots spark' business..
Hit Point spells
# Jul 08 2002 at 5:40 PM Rating: Decent
Snare, root, burst of fire arent affliction hit-point-spells, flame lick, being a dot is.
Basically this will affect all dots.

Deity aligned spell
# Jun 17 2002 at 9:07 PM Rating: Excellent
Be careful when you buy the Imbue spells. They are deity aligned. I bought this one for my Vah Shir, who is agnostic. She could not use it because it required that she worship a specific deity. Wasted money.
where?

I cannot find the spells..please someone tell me where to find them.
Gotta know.
# Jun 09 2002 at 1:25 AM Rating: Decent
Does this also affect bard song dots? Please say yes, or else they are seriously jipping us out of something really, really good here.
also works on
# Jun 06 2002 at 9:36 PM Rating: Decent
All the Affliction XX spells also work on Root, Slow and snares from practical experience and i was told that they work on any "debuff" spell but i havent had a chance to test this yet
RE: also works on
# Jun 14 2002 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
My experience has shown that it does not affect Root or Snare. You don't get the message about whatever item you are wearing glowing and I can tell no difference in the duration. It also states in the description that it only effects deterimental spells that effect HP, so I'm pretty sure it won't help root or snare last longer. :(
Good right?
# May 29 2002 at 12:57 PM Rating: Default
I'm no caster..but isn't that pretty good damage for the mana cost? Not sure how bad the cast time is. Like I said..I'm no caster...hehe..just curious ;)

I can not believe you would say you can weave 5 songs and make it effective. True most bards out there blow (literally) but noone will ever play 5 songs effectively. I've played my bard for a year and get many comments on how effective my twisting is with 3 songs. That's really all you need if you know how to play a bard. You should also know when to play the fourth and fifth songs in your lineup when it is time to change. THAT'S how you can be a Maestro.
