This spell works much better now. I remember back when, as a young enchanter, this spell worked in one way and one way only...as a guaranteed return to your bind point!

Due to the specific changes of SOME spells in the Pacify/Lull line, people are now saying that our Lull line no longer really contains a lull. This is FALSE!

Here are my tests:

Lvl 1 Cleric -- lvl 20ish gnoll (spell works to lvl 30 mobs theoretically)

Lull cast on three gnolls.
"a whatever looks less agressive" seen for three gnolls.

Walked up and kissed the middle gnoll on the nose.

No problems. No agro.

*Be warned the duration for this to last is SHORT so don't ***** around about it, cast and run, or cast and pull, but do it quickly. I never seemed to get it to last more than about 45 seconds, despite the duration listed here of 1.2 minutes. Also, the gnolls *always* say "scowling" as opposed to changing to indifferent the way they did back looooong ago.*

---

Test 2, lvl 5 cleric, same 3 gnolls.

Cast lull on each gnoll
Saw "less aggressive" message for all three.
Walked up and tried to kiss middle gnoll on the nose.
Got agro from gnoll next to middle gnoll (first gnoll pacified).
Other gnolls stayed put while angry gnoll made paste of my level 5 test cleric
Pong, lvl 4 :P

---

Test 3, lvl 4 Cleric, same three gnolls.
Cast lull
See two messages, one gnoll agros on CAST of lull -- no "failure" or "resist" message given.

---

Final results:

This spell is working the way it always used to work since BETA, with the single exception of the change that the pacified gnolls do not drop from scowling to threatening or indifferent or anything else in their cons.

This spell has *always* had a chance of not working despite sending you the "so and so looks less aggressive" message.

This spell has *always* had a chance of causing agro of one or more mobs on pull.

I suspect that within the actual game mechanics, the lull portion and the agro radius reduction portion are on two different counters. So you may succeed at one but fail at the other. This would mean your lull is *effectively* only a radius shrinker, and that would mean you'd not necessarily be able to split the pull or run by or whatever.

I am not going to bother to research this for the higher spells. I suspect that the line has not changed and that people are just confused. Your *Placate* spell does not contain any type of Lull, so when you get to it, be warned it doesn't work the way the rest of these do. I don't know if the 71+ spells of the line work that way or not because I'm grinding AA's till my eyes bleed and still sitting at 70 :P
