Wrong Spell Icon

The spell icon (tornado) and name (Dustdevil) for this spell are more akin to the wind (stun) line of druid spells. However the spell description says Ignites for such and such, with no stun, which is more akin to the Fire line of druid spells. The damage to mana ratio seems to be better than L38 Firestrike, L48 Fire, and L48 Starfire. The save is magic for this spell not fire. Seems the tornado symbol is an error that was never fixed or that this spell was originally going to be another wind(stun) but got changed and vice versa, etc.

I just found this spell in Plane of Knowledge (POK) from Pathfinder Viliken. Sells for 40p, 9g, 4 s, 9 cp.(bring 41 plat hehe).

It is listed as "Dustdevil".

Beats having to go to FV for it if you are already in POK.

Stun effect

Rangers dont need stuns. Load your procs, equip a sword of the bloodsworn and copper hammer....then pray. Stuns aren't for your class.

If you really thing Rangers have no place using stuns, you're sadly mistaken. We've got a full line of self-buff proc spells that all have stuns, and they're an important part of every rangers agro management toolbox.

Play a ranger before you post about 'em.

This does not seem like a good place for this type of thread, but since it is here... I have a ranger with a copper hammer and sword of the bloodsworn. Even with my spell procs I am able to manage agro and avoid stealing agro from tanks. In some situations however, being second or third on the hate list is a good thing. When that situation arises most clerics and/or enchanters usually appreciate my ability to grab agro when I need to.
No stun?

Should have a stun on it, at least something for a ranger to interrupt casting. then it would rock.

I was trying to check my spells to see what changed in the revamp this week, and was startled to find Calefaction is gone! This spell appears to have shown up in its place. (I've already moved on to Starfire, so I didn't have Calefaction in any spell sets, so I'm not really sure if Dustdevil is in its spot.) But since there are comments on this page dating back to Jan 2004, I gather Dustdevil is an old spell? Did they just throw it to us druids as compensation for losing Calefaction, or what?

Dustdevil looks like just another nuke, a bit smaller and cheaper than Starfire, part of a typical progression as you level up. Calefaction actually served a very different purpose: it was FAST (2 second cast), but with a long refresh (25? 30?). So you could use it when getting the damage 3-4 seconds sooner mattered, or if you were afraid a longer cast would get interrupted, but you couldn't use it for continuous damage.

I personally love this spell. When I'm made to be MT it's great to claim a lot of agro early on in the fight; when just meleeing it's great for doing an additional 900 damage; and when soloing, it means the mobs (for once) don't laugh when we through magic at em!

It's fun to have as a druid. I love my fire. And we get SO MUCH OF IT! Nature's best force, ever.
