Seems to be broken lately all earth elementals. Cast in Griegs end, PoNightmare, CoD, Natimbi. No luck.

Tryed to make Monster Summoning II using the new research method based upon recipes from Monster Summoning III and Monster Summoning IV using L50 Crude Spell Scroll. It would not combine.

Very Interesting Sneak Enhancement by SOE

Yup.. They changed this pet. I was in a NRo dungeon with a crowd of 52-58s (I was 52 mage), and cast this. First time, I got a miniature version of the crystal studded golem guys. It kicked butt in melee. I saw the "Feral Claws" message a few times, but assumed it was something the necroes were throwing. I did see it do a spellcasting animation a few times, which just puzzled me.

We got chased out of the dungeon, and when we went back in, I recast. Got a wolf. Hmm.. Ok.. Didn't know there were wolves in here. Then got a little closer to the action and observed that the wolf was BITING the target (always been "hits" before, unless I gave the pet summoned swords). That's interesting, they changed the attack to match the form. Then I saw the spellcasting message and the feral claws message. That made me real puzzled. This thing was acting like a BL pet or something.

Anyway, carrots to SOE for making this spell more interesting.

There seems to have been a stealth change in the way Monster Summoning spells work recently. All MS pets I summon now cast a 50ish point magic 'feral claw' type DD, but none have had a damage shield. I could have just been unlucky, but it would not surprise me if they simply took out the occasional fire shield and threw the magic DD in as compensation.
Do they have a damage shield?

After using this spell over 20 times now, I have yet to get one that casts a damage shield on itself.
Mind you, I have only tried this summoning in the Ocean of Tears (it was a goblin over 50% of the time), and in the Great Divide.
Is the DS restricted only to certain monster types, or has it been nerfed?
NO MONTERS?
# Oct 06 2003 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
Lately, EVERY time I cast Monster Summoning, I get an EARTH pet looking pet!?!?!?!?

Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas? I used to get such cool random monsters. Everybody loved them... Now???? Just a copy of Dusty.

If you get a earth elemental, I think the reason is that you are in a place like plane of knowledge or plane of tranquility where there are no agroing mobs. Once you zone into a zone with monsters that agro, your pet will change his appearance into something else.

Focus
# Aug 06 2003 at 1:45 AM Rating: Default
Which of the focus items, if any, work on the monster summon 2? its like a fire pet primarily, but has some more hp, so in a way, its a weak version of the epic pet, thats a pleasant thought, =)

<PoJ is the coolest place to use this pet, as there are over 200 races in the zone, it truly is a mystery as to what you will get>

From what I have read, the basic Mage Focus Items (Stein, Torch, Broom, and Shovel) only work on elemental pets summoned by spells of 49th and lower levels - excluding the Epic Orb, and Monster Summoning I.

I don't think any focus effects work on the Monster Summoning pets.

Also, it's closer to an Earth pet than a fire pet: as far as I can tell it has Earth pet hit points, Water pet damage avoidance, and sometimes the Fire pet damage shield. I just resummon until I get one with the shield if I'm soloing, often mobs take almost as much damage from the shield as they do to the pet... otherwise for groups it's often handy to have a pet with a lot of hit points for tanking adds that doesn't Root.
