You say, 'hail Bjoskhua Blackfist'

Bjoskhua Blackfist's lips do not move, though your mind is filled with a voice. 'What is it you want, mortal? I have little patience for those who do not come here to study.'

You say, 'i wish to study'

Bjoskhua Blackfist looks you over and his voice invades your mind again. 'What is it you wish to study?'

You say, 'who is clrakk?'

Bjoskhua Blackfist says 'Clrakk is my youngest brother. He walks a path of shadows and deceit. If he were to battle, it would not be one without weapons or armor. I may use these as a bargaining chip some day. I do not think my family has any more need of these old chest straps.

You say, 'what chest straps?'

Bjoskhua Blackfist says 'The chest straps are simply a status symbol to some gladiators and warriors. They are passed down from generation to generation. When a warrior enters one of these contests of the fist, they wear the chest straps of their family. My family was awarded a set of the enchanted chest straps ages ago. None of my brothers save Clrakk would even consider entering the contest.

You say, 'what contests of the fist?'

Bjoskhua Blackfist says 'Ages ago there was a race of fish men named the Kedge. Prexus spread them throughout the waters of the world and they were prosperous. Rumors abound that even near the waters of velious they had great cities. All at once they seemed to be wiped from the face of Norrath. One of the travelers I recently spoke to informed me that a single Kedge may still live in the lands of Faydwer. As grotesque as it sounds, the backbone of a Kedge may be used to create indestructible scroll cases. Bring me the backbone of this fishman, if he exists, and you will find yourself a richer person.'

Bring him back the backbone of Phinigel Autropos from Kedge (yes, the backbone also used in the bard epic):

Bjoskhua Blackfist says 'Excellent, I guess his entire race is now wiped from Norrath. This will indeed make a wonderful scroll case. I am a giant of my word. Take your prized item and be gone, you greedy little beast!'

Need all dialogues, current faction hits if any, /loc of Bjoskhua Blackfist, info on other quest rewards if any, minimum faction required to get quest, etc.

I have a question. Why is this listed as an updated quest so much. It's only use is to deprive bards from a MQ that some moron happens to loot from Phinny and turns in for this for kicks. The only and I mean ONLY possible way this quest could be saved is if they made the turn in worth about 50 or 100 coldain head turn ins of faction towards all giant factions. I mean christ you just exterminated an entire race for them I think you qualify as good people :p...

This quest is obviously broken 10 ways from Sunday. If you remember while in game send in Feedback, the more that do the more likely they will look at it.

The quest starts out talking about a seemingly Monk-related item, Chest Straps. When you try to trigger a conversation about the contests of the fist he starts talking about the Kedge? It's the second half of some other quest mashed onto the end of the chest strap one, which was never completed to begin with.

Since there's such an issue with the quest I'd be pretty certain that the reward is completely screwed up too, for both quests.

yeah i have to agree. Even in the old world when an item with a stat was like catching the glimpse of a woman flashing her ankle in the 1950s, this is Still Awful!

Please someone who played EQ back before expansions: was this item ever good at the level you'd need to be to loot it?

Beta3 player here, and I must confess this item is crap.

There are int on them (legs with int were RARE), but that makes them almost useless to the WIS classes able to wear them. Plus, people didn't like the negative stats in, those times (seem to care less nowadays). The legs are heavy, and the feeble HP bonus wouldnt make it any good vs. the AC next to 0 (negative maybe?) the legs provide because of the neg10 agi.

The thing is you have to kill PHINIGEL for this quest. Which was one of the "bosses" of the original EQ, along with Vox and Nagafen.
Considering this quest came along with the
Velious expansion, this quest is an utter joke, just meant to slow bards in their already hard epic.

Rated awful.

Wait... I must be reading this wrong.

You do this quest (which requires killing an EPIC mob) for leggings that I wouldn't even touch with a 10 foot pole? Even if they weren't no drop, I bet if you tried to giving them to newbies they'd /rude at you lol.
This really sucks.

HAHAHAHAHA, what a HORRIBLE quest, for a HORRIBLE item. Someone needs to be fired.

When you ask him "What contests?"
Bjoskua says "Ages ago there was a race of fish men named the Kedge. Bring me the backbone of this fishman, if he exists, and you will find yourself a richer person."

Bring him back Bjoskhua the backbone of Phinegal Autropos from Kedge (yes, the backbone also used in the bard epic):

"Excellent, I guess his entire race is now wiped from Norrath. This will indeed make a wonderful scroll case. I am a giant of my word. Take your prized item and be gone, you greedy little beast!"

Giant Sized Monocle - some confirmation
# Feb 09 2003 at 9:13 PM Rating: Default
At Amiable and better faction, Bjoskhua Blackfist will indeed accept the Giant Sized Monocle (but will still return other items) - confirming that this is what is needed. As to the book - I still have no idea.

EDIT: Additionally, as of right now, his text is broken. You get the response listed above for "what contest of the fist" regardless of what you say to him.

You say, What contests?
Bjoskhua Blackfist says, Ages ago there was a race of wishmen named the Kedge. Prexus spread them throughout the waters waters of the world and they were prosperous. Rumors abound that even near the waters of velious they had great cities. All at once they seemed to be whiped out of the fave of Norath. One of the travelers i recently spoke to inform me that a single kedge may still live in the lands of Faydwer. As grotesque as it sounds, the backbone of a kedge may be used to creat indestrutible scroll cases. Bring me the backbone of this fishman, if it exists and you will find yourself a richer person.

My guess is kill phinny..loot his backbone..turn it in to this guy and get loots...ill try it and get back to you guys

But he mentions an invention that allows you to see more clearly could it be a tinkered device of some kind? I went to the tinkering compendium and under velious recipes they have a telescopic eyepatch maybe that would work

i dont doubt he means the giant sized monocle,a peice obtained in DL and used in the warrior epic.it is droppable.

Side Note...

In one of these messages someone posted that they got this NPC to give them a book to turn in to the Monk Leader in Cabilis. Could you please post what it was that triggered that... I would very much be interested in the findings of such a quest.
Solved?
# Dec 03 2001 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
Has this been solved yet? Re-read Book of Immortals and realize that is not what he is asking for, so I didnt burn my monocle to try it.
Anybody solve this, or at least have more ideas on the book(that make sense)?
Where is this guy located?
# Nov 27 2001 at 5:03 AM Rating: Default
I have been looking everywhere for this guy in Kael but can't seem to find him. Please post where he is located. I would like to start this quest.
RE: Where is this guy located?
# Nov 30 2001 at 11:43 AM Rating: Default
He is in the farthest back room of the manor area. I got as far as the above, but have yet to figure out the rest.
So has anybody tried?
# Nov 13 2001 at 7:21 PM Rating: Default
Turning these two items-

1) Giant-sized monocle (from the text, it seems to be pretty obvious this is what he means)
2) Book of Immortals (Since this is involved in the monk epic already, and tells about the history of the races of Norrath- least I think it does, dont remember exactly, maybe it talked about the gods)
These seem to me to be the most likely items he is wanting.
May go grab a book and read it again, and if it sounds right I'll try this myself with my monk, I already have a monocle.

I remember I had a book about half a year ago or that told you about races and places in Norrath... But as to where it dropped or where I bought it... I have no idea =(

I will do my best to figure this out though, and will post here about it later.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 22 2001 at 2:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Seriously both monocles mentioned here are dropped off of giants. How many giant quests require that you kill other giants compared to the number that require you to kill dragons? Just a thought. That and go visit the Temple of Veeshan.

The monacle drops off the Mountain Giant Patriarch in Dreadlands. BUT he must spawn in the fort, that is the only one that will drop the monacle.
Incidentally the monacle is tradeable so you are able to purchase one if you find someone selling it.

The Tome of Ages
# Jun 04 2001 at 3:25 PM Rating: Default
There is a quest to bring an oracle in the Ocean of Tears the broken pieces of Tome of Ages. He wants seven books, the Book of Turmoil, the Book of Scale, the Book of Ages, the Lost Book, the Book of Monuments, and the Book of Elders. According to many sources, the Lost Book, the Book of monuments, and the Book of Elders haven't been discovered. He says he would put the books together to form The Tome of Ages. The Tome of Ages should be the tome for the quest, and if it isn't, I will dress him up like I do with Barbie Doll Priest of Discord.
RE: The Tome of Ages
# Jun 04 2001 at 3:32 PM Rating: Default
Agh, correction: The oracle doesn't want the Book of Ages anymore with other books to make The Tome of Ages, now he says he needs the Book of Enlightenment with other books to make The Tome of Ages. That makes the place where we fall for 10k seem a bit more reasonable.

giants monocle (from war epic) + book from monk epic quest (think about it)... any monks who already have their epics and a second robe of the whistling fists wanna try handing it in for a book to Lheao, and then a handing both in to this guy? =P

It only makes sense that verant would try to ***** you somehow. Hopefully these chest wraps will be better than the robe.
RE: sigh...
# May 08 2001 at 7:43 AM Rating: Default
The book 'might' work but i doubt it. He doesn't ask for a robe, he asks for monocles and a book. You'll just end up losing your robe if you try handing it in.
RE: sigh...
# Jul 25 2001 at 12:12 PM Rating: Default
Uh, he was talking about the book needed for the CF, wich you get for handing in your RotWF. But i don't think that is the book you need for this quest, oh well...

That book details a war between giants and dragons wherein Porlos slew Hsagra, Yelinak's mate.

I believe it is only plot/history, or a preamble to the Dragonsbane quest.
