The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task is the third in a series of three and begins with Talon (click for map image) on Thuliasaur Island.

    Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
    - Minimum Level 95
    - Minimum apprehensive faction with Bloodfeather Aviaks
    - Completion of "The Ebonwing Threat"
    - Completion of "Softening the Shells"

Say "plan" to request the task.

    You say, 'Hail, Talon'

Talon says '_____, grave news. During the night one of our scouts reported spotting the shadow of a creature larger than any dinosaur that roams the land. The Matriarch may have returned home. We must make haste with the final steps of our plan. It is no longer safe for you to approach the Ebonwing nest without a disguise. The tenders clearly understand that you have been working with us, but I have a [plan]...'

    You say, 'What plan?'

Talon begins whispering the details of a convoluted plan to capture one of the Ebonwing chicks for study.

You have been assigned the task 'In Shadow of Moonlight'.

Talon, the Bloodfeather tribe leader, fears his plans to implicate the corrupted guardians for the loss of several Ebonwing eggs has failed. He is now convinced that the only way he will be able to ensure the safety of his tribe is to abduct and study one of the Ebonwing chicks.

Talon fears that the corrupted guardians will now recognize you if you try and infiltrate the nest again so this plan begins with the construction of a disguise.

He wants you to recover the skin of a Thaell Ew scout but does not want you to enact violence upon a member of the Thaell Ew tribe; such an action may spark a war he is not willing to fight. Instead, he suspects that the remains of a Thaell Ew could be found in the belly of a triceratops.

    P 1648.8253, -935.6730, 340.6729, 0, 0, 0, 1, chick

Recover a Lizardman Skin from a triceratops 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Kill any triceratops to receive "Flattened Lizardman Skin".

a triceratops hatchling has been slain by _____!
a triceratops hatchling's corpse's lifeless mass shakes the ground as it falls.

You make a quick incision in the lumbering beast's side and begin rummaging around its colossal stomach for lizardman remains. It takes you mere seconds to pull out 'most of' a Thaell Ew scout's flayed husk...

Deliver the Lizardman Skin to Talon 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Upon turn-in, you receive a "Crude Lizardman Disguise" and "Concentrated Avian Sedative".

Talon cringes as you present the flayed lizardman skin to him. He holds it at arm's length and sighs, 'Couldn't have found one that wasn't <WARK!> still dripping?' He sets it on the floor and begins cleaning the innards away before revealing a shoddy dagger affixed to a ball of twine which he then uses to stitch up the torn sections of skin. Several minutes pass before he presents you with the dried lizardman skin disguise. 'It's not all that <BRAUWK! BOWK!> pretty, but it'll be enough to trick those stupid birds. Wait until nightfall then make your way to their nest again. Oh, and you'll need this.'

Wait until nightfall to don the disguise 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Task Window Says: Talon's disguise crafting skill has proven, less than optimal, you should wait until nightfall to don the disguise and make your way into the Ebonwing nest.

Night time is between 7:00 P.M. and 4:00 A.M. game time (/time). Wait until then, and then right-click the disguise.

You place the lizardman skin over your body. Despite Talon's earlier efforts to clean the hide you feel a little uncomfortable by how wet the inside of the disguise feels against your skin.

Make your way to the Ebonwing nest and capture a chick 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Task Window Says: Sneak into the Ebonwing nest under the aid of darkness and weaken an Ebonwing chick enough to sedate it with the concoction Talon has provided you. If you somehow lose your disguise Talon may be able to provide you with another.

You can find 1x "an Ebonwing chick" and 3x "a bloodtear Ebonwing" in and around the nest of the Ebonwings (found up the pathway due south of the Aviak village). DPS one of these mobs to 40% health, and then click the Sedative. This results in a "Sedated Ebonwing Chick". (Note: These mobs have no leash range, so you can pull them to any distance.)

You splash a bit of the avian sedative in the Ebonwing chick's face. It flaps its wings violently then flutters lazily to the ground. You scoop the tired creature up into your arms.

Return the Sedated Ebonwing Chick to Talon 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Talon carefully accepts the sleeping bird and looks it over. He hands it to one of his close advisors and turns to you, 'Once again your help has proven more than invaluable, _____. Although your monetary reward pales in comparison to your efforts, I offer you the humble gratitude of my entire tribe. The chick you have recovered will allow us to better understand the Grand Matriarch and perhaps someday overcome the shadow of her capricious tyranny. Should we ever need your aid again we will call upon you as a hero to our tribe.'

Talon remains indebted to you for the help in carrying out his sometimes convoluted plans. You are left wondering if the colossal Ebonwing he speaks of will not think the Thaell Ew guilty of stealing one of her chicks...

Near the entrance to the aviak area , i spotted two Blackbirds that worked for the quest. However, i have yet to see them respawn (and yes the nest was at full spawn before i killed the two blackbirds. Unsure if these are abnormally long spawns (it's been several hours with no respawn) or if was just a glitch.

Climb up the hillside to the left of the ebonwing ramp until you can get a LOS on the vulture visible from there. Pull and kill it and the wanderer. Then you can pull the chick and the other birds in the nest. Any raven model NPC counts, not just the chick.

If you fail the first time to finish the quest where you use the suit. You can hail the quest NPC and he will give you another suit to try one more time or as many times you need to succeed. If you don't want to clear all the way up to the nest you can climb the hillside and pull a chick from the nest after killing one or two of the vultures that are patrolling around the nest.

The reason for the bug could be that the disguise has been done in night, the kill started at night and went at the limit into the day. So the head is in the inventory but the quest log does not update.

After petition GM Woebot said the reason is that we are doing a solo task in a group. That was the first time I had a complete noob as a GM telling me such a crap. The most quests in new expansions are never soloable by normal group geared people and raid geared mostly don't need the loot which is more crap for them. Sometimes you get answers and you don't believe your ears....

We did the quest again in the usual configuration (group) and completely in the night and it updated like intended. It is a very fast quest, so that is normally not a problem.

Did that quest for every toon 6 times. The Beasty was number 7. He click, the chick head was there but the stupid quest didnt update the quest window. Petitioned it, hopefully they fix the bug.

If you stand directly in front of the chick (down the mountain), then it is possible to pull the chick with a max of 1 add down. If you have a mezzer, simply get him dizzy. If not you can offtank him. Really easy instead of working the way up and killing all around the nest. Pulling place is good on the left side of the nest if you look up to the chick on the mountain.
What happens when you click the Sedative.

"DPS one of these mobs to 40% health, and then click the Sedative. This results in a "Sedated Ebonwing Chick".

I would most certainly clear the area of the big "vulture-type" Ebonwings first. When you have a good path to the nest, without fear of getting unwonted agro; THEN click on your disguise; then pull one of the "chicks." DPS it down to just below 40%, and right-click the sedative given to you by Talon. This results in an automatic inventory placement of a sedated chick (looks like the head of a mean-looking chicken.) Take this to Talon for the final turn-in part of this quest, to claim your reward.

By the way, just an FYI, after you click the disguise, you have about 25 minutes to use it. Would suggest you not be in any other illusion first, and it doesn't really shield you all that well from the Ebonwings, nor the chicks. They still see and attack you, although their reaction time is a tad slower. Just don't stand in front of one and decide what to do; they hit hard.

Hope this explanation helps some. Just an observation from when I did it.

The other raven models: "a bloodtear Ebonwing" do count for this quest, in addition to the one chick. The vulture model adults do not work, as expected. If you have multiple players on the step, you need one chick/bloodtear for each.
