This task begins with Lady Carolline of Thex in Northern Felwithe. She is located at 0, -170 (on the balcony overlooking the entrance: you can use the Find Feature, CTRL+F, to get to her).

Initiating the Task

You say, 'Hail, Lady Carolline of Thex'

Lady Carolline of Thex smiles, trying to hide an obvious air of sadness, 'Greetings adventurer, such a lovely day isn't it?' The pained look on her face clearly gives away that something is [wrong].

You say, 'What's wrong?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Wrong? Oh, nothing really. My beloved is off again on some [excursion] and has yet to return. I'm quite sure he will be fine though. How I miss our adventures together, the time we would spend exploring the hidden beauty of Norrath. We were especially fond of [Antonica].'

You say, 'Why were you fond of Antonica?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'A lovely land, despite the efforts of humans to ruin it...' The Koada`Dal's smile becomes more sincere. 'Lake Rathetear, oh the [stories] I could share of moonlit nights sitting on the docks. The noble aviaks keeping ardent guard over the sacred flame, the sunken towers and legend of the Megalodon...' She sighs and looks up to the sky.'

You say, 'What stories could you share?'

Lady Carolline of Thex blinks and looks back to you, her demeanor changing. 'Tell you what stranger, you come up with an [interesting tale] to distract me from my boredom, and I'll see if I can find something to [reward] you for your effort.'

You say, 'What reward would that be?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Hmm, already pondering your riches before the effort of imagination? I suppose not many adventurers care to put any effort into their journeys these days.' The young high elf sighs. 'Anyway, what you will be rewarded with is something befitting a _____ such as yourself.'

You say, 'I have an interesting tale to tell'

Lady Carolline of Thex says, 'Something grand, truly epic and interesting! Just let me know when you've thought of a suitable story.'

You have been assigned the task 'An Epic Request'.

Be sure to carry your epic artifact with you!

    The Event

An Epic Request / An Epic Retelling - Shadow Knight event

    * Get your epic weaponry out of the bank.
    * Make sure you are solo -- no group and no mercenary.
    * Start the task "An Epic Request" in Felwithe.

Throughout the Shadow Knight event, you will be given a number of choices. You can choose the good path like a Paladin, or you can choose the path of evil; the path of the Shadow Knight; the path of Lhranc. During at least one run-through of An Epic Request, follow the path that is the paragon of darkness to earn An Epic Retelling achievement.

    * Travel to North Ro and head to the task update spot in the northwest corner of the zone at 9600, -500.

As a Shadow Knight, you will receive "Brittle Stone" on your cursor.
    * Click the Brittle Stone to be assigned the 1-person task 'Innoruuk's Curse' (The Shadowknight's Journey) and it also points you southeast.
If you ever find yourself needing to re-enter an instance zone while the task is active, click the Brittle Stone again from North Ro.
If you don't receive a Brittle Stone, check to see if you already have one in inventory from a previous task run.
If you click the Brittle Stone while you are in a group, it gives you the error "This is a journey that must begone [sic] alone. Cast off the bonds of your allies!". Simply disband your group and click the stone again.

You begin casting Look Into the Eyeball.
    Your eyes feel stronger.
As you concentrate your gaze on the stone it takes the form of an eye that blinks quickly and then instantly repetrifies. You feel yourself drawn in this direction!
As you near the small wooden huts you notice something interesting. A merchant beating the life out of a fallen-battered man...
You have been assigned the task 'Innoruuk's Curse'.
The direction to someone related to your current Task has been marked on your compass.

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 1: Locate the Disturbance 0/1 North Desert of Ro
-- The brittle eye-shaped stone calls out to you, beckoning you to seek the nearby conflict.

There is a line on your compass indicating where to go.
    * Run southeast to 8190, -1645 in North Ro to find an irate merchant beating a starving beggar.
    * Hail an irate merchant.

An irate merchant says, 'The merchant roars, 'Miserable fink! This is the third time this week I've caught this freeloading lump of refuse stealin' from my store!''

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 2: Settle the Dispute 0/1 North Desert of Ro
-- You are posed with a simple question of morality. Decide the fate of each man.

The wounded human lies broken and beaten as the merchant continues to attack him. In his hand rests a bag of stolen goods...

You get a pop-up window called "A Question of Morality".
    A simple question of morality:
Do you take pity on the weak and staving criminal or side with the merchant in defending his livelihood? [Help Merchant] [Save Thief]

    Evil choice: [Help Merchant]
An irate merchant says, 'Ah, a fine and fair citizen. Let's spare the militia the hassle of ridding the fields of another pest!'
    A starving beggar groans...
    * Kill a starving beggar.
The two figures fade from sight and are replaced by two opposing human females. They face each other but each speaks as if only to herself...
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'There is hope for this one, her judgment is impartial. She knows better than to let her emotions cloud her decisions.'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'Your optimism will be your undoing. This one is clearly the paragon of our cause.'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'We shall see...'

    Good choice: [Help Thief]
An irate merchant roars, 'Miserable scoundrels, the lot of you! I'll have your heads for this!'
A starving beggar coughs, 'Thank you, stranger.'
    * Kill an irate merchant.
The two figures fade from sight and are replaced by two opposing human females. They face each other but each speaks as if only to herself...
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'Such compassion... This is the one I choose! That is, unless you intend to take back your word. I would hardly put it past you.'
The Apotheosis of Enmity laughs, 'Predictable until the end. This one shall do, I sense the familiar fire burning within them.
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'We shall see...'

The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'Fair Knight, I sense in you the will of the Father. I shall spare you the back-story, as I sense your accomplishments already. Tell me, are you [willing] to look back through the eyes of history to settle a little bet of ours?'

    * Target The Apotheosis of Enmity and say, 'willing'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'Very well, we shall see you soon...'

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 3: Witness Lhranc's escape from Freeport 0/1 The Northern Desert of Ro
-- Strange visions have overtaken your consciousness. You find yourself many years in the past viewing life through the eye of Lhranc. Witness his wounded escape from Freeport.

You have entered The Northern Desert of Ro.
You are transported to old, original North Ro (map: nro) facing south, and shrouded as a level 35 warrior. You are affected by the aura Severe Wounds: "You appear to be missing an eye..."

You cough violently; your vision is blurred and sporadic. The expansive desert before you is dark with radically unseasonable weather.
Escape... This word is at the forefront of your consciousness.
    It begins to rain.
In the distance you hear the yelling of the militia. You must head south!

    * Move south toward the huts.

Your wounds are becoming more severe! You won't make it much further without aid...
Your body is wracked with intense pain.

As you reach the huts, you will start losing health, then fall unconscious.

You fall to the ground in blind agony.
    Stranger?
    ...
You did this to me! You don't... You can't love her as I do!
Brother, we are in love... My heart does not love her to spite you. Do you find no comfort in knowing she is happy?
Happy? She is blinded by your deceit... No... She will be mine!
You are out of food and drink.
    ...
    You alive?
    You are completely healed.
Your eyes open, your vision is blurred but you can make out the silhouette of a Barbarian against the cloudy sky.
Guthren Sandfisher says, 'Didn't think you were gonna' make it there, stranger. Not too many folks come crawlin' out'uh Freeport missin' an eye like tha'...'
Your hands are wound tightly with bloodstained bandages. You muster the strength to raise a hand to your face. The soft cloth of an eye patch clings tightly to your skin, bound by a film of dried blood.
The Barbarian walks over and offers you a flask of water. He looks down, ' 'ere, you'll need this. The desert ain't kind tah those without drink...'

You receive 2x Pod of Water on your cursor.
    You are healed to full.

Guthren Sandfisher says, 'Yeh should be gettin' along after yeh've rested up, I kin't imagine the guards are far behind yeh... I won't lie if they come askin' about yeh, but I offer yeh this head-start now...'
The Apotheosis of Enmity shakes her head, 'He would so easily hand you over... Seems like you would be better off without guards on your trail.'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'You would harm the stranger that saved your life and offered you respite from your abusers simply for not wanting to lie?
Guthren Sandfisher says, 'Yer sword is over there stranger. Travel on in good health.'
    You are no longer stunned.

    * Stand up and look a bit to the south to find a sword lying on the ground. Pick up and equip Damaged Fine Steel Greatsword - 2HS.

You get a pop-up window called "A Question of Survival".
    A question of survival:
Do you silence the fisherman now or risk being followed further by the militia? [OK]
Guthren Sandfisher stands along the shore fishing with his back to you.

    * Evil choice: Kill Guthren Sandfisher.
The Apotheosis of Enmity grins, 'Well?'
The Apotheosis of Hope shakes her head...
    The mysterious figures vanish.
You have gained the ability "Lifetap" at a cost of 0 ability points.
Your blade quickly fells the fisherman. He falls dead, a look of confusion frozen on his face.
    You have slain Guthren Sandfisher!

Your Monster AA Window automatically opens. Make a hotkey for Lifetap from the Class tab. You will need it.

    * Good choice: Leave Guthren Sandfisher to his fishing.
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'Well?'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'It means nothing! A trail of blood is as bad as a trail of words...'
    The mysterious figures vanish.

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 4: Witness Lhranc's escape to the Oasis 0/1 The Northern Desert of Ro
-- After receiving aid from the fisherman Lhranc made his way further south through the desert.

    * Start traveling south along the shoreline toward Oasis.

Through the haze you spot the faint glow of torches. It would appear the guards are patrolling the coast, you will have to take the south-west road to the Oasis...
A gust of wind whips over the hills and kicks sand into your face... 'Why do you run, coward?'
You think you hear whispered voices cursing... Watch your step!
The tired sobbing of a woman fills your ears... 'You don't deserve her, you never will...'

    * Turn slightly southwest away from the shoreline to avoid the guards. Continue toward the southern zoneline to Oasis while avoiding guards and guard encampments in the desert. If you do get guard aggro, running away seems to leash them. If they kill you, you'll respawn back at the fisherman's hut.

The southwestern road into the Oasis looks clear...

As you reach the zone to Oasis, you are beset by either one guard or three.

A voice breaks through the din of the storms,'Hah! You didn't expect to escape that easily, did you?'

    Evil:
The guards laugh, 'The Barbarian led us right to you!'
Wayguard Ginfur shouts, 'You shall not pass into the Oasis!'
Wayguard Sanwell shouts, 'You shall not pass into the Oasis!'
Wayguard Thrinn shouts, 'You shall not pass into the Oasis!'

    * You will need to kill all three guards before you can continue - don't forget to use your Lifetap ability.

    Good:
Wayguard Thrinn shouts, 'You shall not pass into the Oasis!'

    * Kill the guard.

Lhranc roamed the unforgiving deserts of Ro for weeks. His torment continued even as the militia's interest in his capture waned. As time passed he became indistinguishable from any of the nameless madmen roaming the Oasis. His thoughts were fraught with maddening voices. His brother's, his unrequited love's, unyielding multitudes of tormentors left him without solace... His disdain for humanity matured until he had been deemed ready...

Don't actually zone to Oasis. Instead, the script sends you to Plane of Hate B.

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 5: Make your way to the seat of Innoruuk's power 0/1 The Plane of Hate
-- The morality play grows more severe. Your consciousness has returned to your body but you find yourself in the Plane of Hate. Make your way to the seat of Innoruuk's power to witness a pivotal moment in history.

You have entered The Plane of Hate.

You are now your own character instead of a monster shroud.

A slow tune begins echoing down the Maestro's halls...
The Apotheosis of Enmity sighs before speaking, sounding as if she is in the throes of carnal pleasure, 'The plane is alive with the will of the Father. It was on this day he gave his greatest gift to humankind.'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'However, Innoruuk's ritual did not proceed without interruption. A battalion was sent forth by the Lightbringer to end Lhranc's life before he became an unmanageable threat...'
Your mind clouds with images of suffering as The Father's voice shakes the foundations of the plane. The words are unclear but the intent is unmistakable. The denizens of Hate are to keep intruders at bay until the ritual is complete.
You hear what sounds to be the grinding of planks to the south. The din fades and the sound of music in the hall grows louder.

You get a pop-up window called "A Fond Memory".
As you near the Maestro's chamber you come upon a curious duel. A minion of Marr stands in furious combat against one of the Father's pets. The ashenbone drake rears back, its decrepit hide invoking "fond" memories of your past. The Knight of Marr looks to be losing the fight... What do you do? [Kill Drake] [Kill Paladin]

    You say, 'Hail, Valorian Rholek'
Valorian Rholek turns toward you quickly with a look of fear and disbelief, 'I can only hope you're here to help defeat this vile foe...'
You say, 'Hail, a decrepit ashenbone drake'
A decrepit ashenbone drake flaps its skeletal wings angrily as it strikes at the paladin!

Evil choice: Kill both the paladin AND the drake. To receive the item Decayed Decrepit Hide, choose to kill the Drake first, followed by the Paladin. If you're not going for the Hide, then the order doesn't matter.

    If you choose "Kill Drake":
The Apotheosis of Hope smiles, 'Nobility in camaraderie!'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'Perhaps just blind hatred for the beast...'
    * Kill a decrepit ashenbone drake.

Valorian Rholek turns to you and salutes, 'You have my eternal gratitude fair knight. I would not have been able to vanquish that foul beast without your help. I shall sing your praises to my brothers of Marr when I return to my battalion.'

    If you choose "Kill Paladin":
The Apotheosis of Enmity grins, 'Yes, rid Father's domain of these pests!'
The Apotheosis of Hope shakes her head, 'Blinded by loyalty, such a shame.'
    * Kill Valorian Rholek.

The voice of Innoruuk overwhelms your thoughts, 'One less miserable pest tainting my plane. Perhaps you shall earn the right to suffer here eternally after I've killed you... This one shall return to my temple now.'

If you killed both the drake and the paladin:
The Apotheosis of Hope shakes her head is dismay...
The Apotheosis of Enmity breathes deeply and speaks with a voice tinged with euphoric pleasure, 'Such ruthless hatred, more!'

If you killed the drake and the paladin in the correct order:
The Maestro raises a hand to conduct his choir, their voices cry out in unison with the howl of the bleak organ. You can't help but feel the piece is being performed in your honor...

Innoruuk's voice booms through the open doorway, 'Fools, debauched and worthless souls! You will soon know the power of an elder god!'

You get a pop-up window called "Course of Action".
The denizens of Innoruuk's realm are unusually indifferent to your presence. It would seem their focus is on battling the invading minions of the Lightbringer. The unmistakable presence of Marr's soldiers radiates from the north. To the south, Innoruuk's temple emites a comforting aura of corruption. You may choose to beat back the forces of Mithaniel Marr or simply travel to Innoruuk's temple to bear witness to the ascension of Lhranc. [OK]

    * Exit the Maestro building where you will find denizens of Hate battling paladins. You can ignore them, they don't count for anything.

    * Evil choice: Before heading south, go north toward the normal zone-in spot to find Squire Baerson on the platform, and kill him.

For Decayed Drecrepit Hide, you may have to pause while killing Squire and make sure he turns twisted before finishing him off.
The area around you shakes as Baerson's form shifts into that of a twisted knight!

Squire Baerson's twisted form falls and disappears from sight, his soul returning to the Temple of Marr.
The Apotheosis of Enmity's disembodied voice shrieks euphorically, 'Truly, you've earned the right to serve Father!'
The Apotheosis of Hope is quick to retort, 'What you see as service to hatred is just as likely devotion to order...'
    You have slain Squire Baerson!

    * Head south toward Innoruuk's den.
You will meet Ashenbone Skullbreaker, who throws you backwards.

The pile of bones begins to shake and reform. The enormous drake drags its wings across the floor emitting an ear piercing screech.
Your veins are filled with a fast-acting venom.
Ashenbone Skullbreaker rears back, ready to defend Innoruuk's temple.

    * Attack Ashenbone Skullbreaker

For Decayed Drecrepit Hide, you may have to pause while killing Ashenbone and make sure it turns twisted before finishing it off.

    While fighting:
The drake's skeleton oozes a sickly sweet pus. The putrid substance begins to solidify into a glistening decrepit hide!

The Ashenbone Skullbreaker crumbles and shatters into a host of tiny fragments.

    * Ashenbone Skullbreaker is replaced by 10 Ashenbone Fragments -- kill them.

With the ashenbone drakes defeated the door to Innoruuk's hall swings open. There is an unnatural silence throughout the plane.

If you have followed the hidden path, you will receive Decayed Decrepit Hide on your cursor.
As you survey the remains of the fallen drakes, something interesting catches your eye...

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 6: Witness Lhranc's revenge 0/1 North Freeport
-- Lhranc returned to Freeport to exact revenge upon his brother and claim Kyrenna for himself.

    * Move south into Innoruuk's room and witness the ritual on Lhranc.

You survey the room, the perfume of burnt flesh is almost enough to knock you backwards. The ground is wet with blood. Ahead you see an impressive ritual pyre. The denizens here seem to pay no attention to you.
Suddenly the hall doors slam shut. A cold wind whips around the room causing the ritual flame to dance. The Avatar of Hate appears, in the pyre bellow him the body of Lhranc spasms violently.
The avatar lifts a hand, the bodies of the tortured are thrown into the fire. A brilliant flash blinds you as the mass of bodies fuels the flame.
You open your eyes to see Lhranc standing before Innoruuk's dark gift, dominion over the spirits that broke him.
The Apotheosis of Enmity stares longingly into Lhranc's eyes.
The Apotheosis of Hope turns away, looking to the floor.
Lhranc reaches out and grabs the blade. In an instant the plane begins to rumble, spirits of the forsaken coalesce around him. You feel yourself pulled toward the flame as your vision returns to darkness...
Lhranc traveled the lands after receiving Innoruuk's dark gift. His skillful mastery of combat paired with the powers of necromancy left him unrivaled. The seething hatred in his heart brought him back to this place. His brother would pay for taking Kyrenna from him...

When the ritual finishes, you are transported to old, original North Freeport (map: freportn) facing west, and shrouded as a level 50 Shadow Knight. The Monster AA Window automatically opens. Make hotkeys for your monster abilities from both the Class and General tabs.

    You have entered North Freeport.

You get a pop-up window called "A Question of Tact".
Do you take the guard's armor or risk being spotted as you search for Glohnor? [Take Uniform] [Leave Uniform]
You must make a choice before you can move.

    Evil choice: [Leave Uniform]

    * Walk north out of the water outside the Hall of Truth. You are beset by several paladins and other NPCs.

    * Kill every NPC in the Hall of Truth building. Kill the bodies they leave, too. Check the two upstairs areas and kill those NPCs as well as their bodies. Some will be level 50 even-cons, others will be level 30 easy kills. Leave none alive.

These peons are not worth dealing with. Continue through the city to find your brother...
At this hour, Glohnor must still be home. Make your way there...

    Good choice: [Take Uniform]
    * Ask the NPCs in the Hall of Truth 'Where is Glohnor?'

    * Once you have cleared the Paladin guild, you are then allowed to leave that area. Travel west then south then east to Glohnor's house which is in the southeast, next to the bank. Open the door and walk inside.

The house is quiet. As you look around you notice something on the table in the corner...

    * Click the book on the table.

You look down at the table. A small ring sits in front of a book with freshly scribbled ink on its open pages... 'My darling love Kyrenna, the temple has seen fit to allow us to marry. Your praises I cannot sing high enough for it is your purity and beauty I wish to spend the rest of my happy life in hopes to be worthy of. I have only this simple ring, but with it I pledge to you my heart...' The writing trails off at this point.
You feel a sudden shock of heat, your vision blurs as your mind fills with rage. 'The backstabber, he has usurped your love away from you... The scars you carry are his doing! He would have killed you if you hadn't gotten away that day...'
You rip the pages out of the book and throw them into the lamp-fire. The ring you place in your pocket. Your thoughts coalesce into a single notion, 'The Temple of Marr'.

    * Evil choice: You might have to kill all roaming guards between Hall of Truth and Temple of Marr. Not sure on this one. You do not have to kill merchants or guards which are inside other buildings.

    * Travel west to the Temple of Marr (Cleric guild).

A nameless voice booms loudly, I give you this last chance to turn back and leave your brother unharmed.'
The cold, cruel voice of Innoruuk whispers quietly, 'Leave none alive. Let them bear witness to the power of Hate!'
Glohnor must be somewhere in the temple. Find him.

    * Evil choice: Kill every NPC in the Temple of Marr, including the basement and outside on the two ledges. Leave none alive.

    * Travel inside the temple and up several sets of stairs.

When you reach the top level inside the temple:
The Apotheosis of Enmity whispers, 'The shadows... You must hide in the shadows.'
    * Cast your Gather Shadows ability from your shroud AAs.

'Innoruuk's Curse' task step 7: Put an end to these visions 0/1 North Freeport
-- Your final trial appears to be reliving these visions and putting an end to the tormented memories that have claimed your consciousness.

It was here Lhranc sneaked into the shadows and waited for his brother...
You feel a slow tugging at your soul as you fall away from the eyes of Lhranc...

You are restored to your own character, no longer a monster shroud.

Glohnor kneels down and begins to pray, 'Lord Mithaniel, Queen Erollisi, bless this eve. I give thanks for my life, my service and my love. I ask that you watch over her as she rests in these halls tonight...'
Lhranc speaks, his tone is mocking, almost sarcastic, Hail, 'brother'...'
Glohnor says, 'My Lord! ... What... What has become of you, brother? Your face... Your eyes?'
Lhranc glares angrily into his brother's eyes before speaking in a cold, uncaring tone, 'Kyrenna! Where is she?'
Glohnor shakes his head and turns his back, 'I am sorry, brother...'
    Lhranc says, 'Very well...'
In a flash, Lhranc leaps forward and brings his blade through his brother's shoulder. Glohnor's body screams in agony as it falls limp and lifeless to the floor, blood oozing from his torn chest...
From the hall below comes a familiar female voice, 'Glohnor?!'
Kyrenna falls to the ground and runs her hand along Glohnor's cold face. She turns from him to Lhranc and sobs, 'Why!? ... I hate you! I HATE YOU!'
The walls tremble. A deep, rumbling voice bellows, 'Agent of Hate, your despicable actions have earned you a punishment far more fitting than execution!'
The imposing figure of The Lightbringer stands above you.
Mithanial Marr shouts, 'I shall see to it you spend eternity in the spiritless void of Torsis!'
Lhranc's skin begins to melt away, his bones fade into the ether and he is gone from sight.
Kyrenna sits over the body of her love, tears streaming down her face. You look up to see the Apotheoses, each with identical tearstained faces...
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'The hatred she harbored for Lhranc allowed Innoruuk to banish her to Torsis alongside his shadowknight.'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'He spent untold years trying to twist her - To love him, to help him break Mithaniel's curse.'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'He was forsaken by his god as she was hers.'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'She would eventually escape, only to fall prey to a trap in an effort to bring life back to her slain love.'
The Apotheosis of Enmity turns her gaze from Kyrenna and looks toward you, 'She would die in that prison, many long and painful years after her time on Norrath was due to be up...'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'Her spirit was fractured on the day she died. The lingering hatred from Lhranc's torture split from the purity and innocence of her life as a priestess of Marr.'
The Apotheosis of Hope says, 'The fractured aspects would exist within the heart of the innocent, which you once wore around your neck...'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, '...and eventually attached themselves to the blade that killed the man she loved.'

You get a pop-up window called "A Final Decision".
It is here you stand on the precipice of history. Kill the Apotheosis of Hope: To finish what Lhranc had started, parting the light from Kyrenna's soul. Kill the Apotheosis of Enmity: Or to reclaim the honor that all knights, even those of shadow, must have.

    * Evil choice: Equip Innoruuk's Curse (SK epic 1.0) and attack The Apotheosis of Hope. She will succumb with one swing.
But if you have any other weapon equipped: "Your attacks have no effect on the Apotheosis of Hope. This weapon will not harm her."

Innoruuk's Curse glows with a deathly black aura. The young woman screams in agony as she falls to the floor, limp, lifeless.
The Apotheosis of Enmity breathes a deep sigh of relief. As the two figures fade from sight you catch a glimpse of Lhranc's spectral form, to the side his obedient and enraptured servant, the dark mistress Kyrenna...
Kyrenna's soul has been rent of its light!

If you have succeeded in following the path of the Shadow Knight completely:

Along your journey you have proven to be the true paragon of Evil.
The story of a true Shadowknight should make for a more interesting telling of this tale.
    A Shadowknight Class - X of X.

Your task 'Innoruuk's Curse' has been updated.
Your task 'An Epic Request' has been updated.
Your vision dims as you feel yourself being pulled away from this place.
You have entered North Desert of Ro.

For completing this quest in the "most evil way" (10/10)

Along your journey you have proven to be the true paragon of Evil.
The story of a true Shadowknight should make for a more interesting telling of this tale.
    A Shadowknight Class - X of X.

    You are rewarded with:

    Hatred

You must do this quest at least 3 times, and during any of these 3 times you must do this with 10/10 max evilness, to get the Hatred reward upon the 3rd time.

There is another bonus item you can get, Decayed Decrepit Hide, if you defeat the dracholiche inside plane of hate in a certain way, that I do not remember now. This item is useful for the ammo slot for certain Charms that increase your stats if you are wearing class-specific armor.

We need info on how these steps are completed.

I killed all the guards in NFP that had the titles 'Sir' and 'Sentry'. There's one in the vault in the bank that can easily be missed. The door is locked, but you can hit him through the door.

It took me 4 tries on Rizlona TLP to achieve 10 of 10 (getting 9 of 10 each time). First, let me clarify a few parts.

    * First, when you port in to NRo, and it says run south, you can run, but you won't make it. It doesn't matter. the fisherman will 'find' you no matter how close you get. You will fall unconscious whatever you do.
    * Once you get your sword, first run south along the shore until you get the emote in the guide. THEN turn SW and ultimately south towards the Oasis ZL avoiding all guards and camps. When you get close to the zone line (which is about in the middle bottom of the map), then you will be attacked by the guards you need to take out.
    * Sometimes when you zone into Hate after taking out the guards, you will get bugged with the mortal wounds (I forget the exact name) debuff. If so, just get out of hate (port, whatever) and the debuff will drop. Make your way back to NRo and click the eye thingy again. You will continue where you left off. Same goes for if you die. Get out, rebuff and come back.

    The rest is pretty straightforward.

    Tips for 10 of 10.

I am going to list things I did different than the exact guide as written. I am not sure which of these actually solved my issue, but these will definitely work. These are only things that differ from the guide. Follow it for everything else.
    1. When you first arrive in Hate, and make your way to the room, you will get a choice to Kill Paladin and Kill Drake. The guide mentions the 'evil' path and 'good' path, and which and in what order, but in the decision box, select kill paladin. I then took out both (and use the guide for the specific order to get the hide).

    2. In Freeport, after selecting leave uniform and you begin taking out everyone, the guide mentions "kill the dead bodies too". The 'good' path says ask everyone where Glohnor is. I read somewhere else to ask all of the 'dead' bodies the same question, so before taking them out the second time, I asked where is Glohnor.

    3. After visiting Glohnor's house and clicking the book, the guide says 'kill guards on your path'. I am not sure what mobs need to be taken out, but what I did was go straight to the temple of Marr and trigger the next emote (which is just inside the courtyard), taken out whatever mobs agroed immediately, THEN went on a rampage around the city. I took out everything that was scowls. Most of the town is dubious and I left them. Once everyone that I could find was dead, then I went back to Marr and proceeded to murder everyone.

The rest of what I did was exactly what was in the guide. that SHOULD give you a 10 of 10 finish.

Bonus. Here are a few strats that made it it easier for me.

*I burned HT on the Squire.. because ***** that guy.
*I used Unholy Aura and loaded 4 taps to fight Skullbreaker. I just spammed taps. If you have your 1.5 or 2.0, save it for when it is at 50% when Skullbreaker splits into the tiny drakes. I then hit Soul Shield and epic, equipped sword and board, and just take them out as fast as you can. It is unlikely you'll get any cast off from interrupts, so just melee away. Use your Leech Touch to help you survive.
    * Several of the mobs you fight in Temple of Marr will CH, and my bash never interrupted. However, you get an AA for Cascading Darkness and Invoke Fear. It only works to level 52 and there is one 53 cleric in there, but it'll save you time and your sanity.

    Hope this helps!

I'm a 115 SK and when I shrouded down to 35, the guards in NRO are all mostly yellow (lv 36-38), a couple of reds and only a tiny number of blues. The three I need to kill for the evil version are levels 32, 36 and 37 - I get totally wiped in seconds!

    Any ideas?

Those are not the guards which you need to kill. The guards which you kill, spawn right before you zone into oasis. The other guards which appear in the zone, ignore.

    * Hail an irate merchant.

    * Slay a starving beggar.

    * Slay an irate merchant.

    * Evil choice: Slay Guthren Sandfisher.

If they slay you, you'll respawn back at the fisherman's hut.

    * You will need to slay all three guards before you can continue - don't forget to use your Lifetap ability.

    Good:
Wayguard Thrinn shouts, 'You shall not pass into the Oasis!'

    * Take out the guard.

Evil choice: Take out both the paladin AND the drake. To receive the item Decayed Decrepit Hide, choose to take out the Drake first, followed by the Paladin. If you're not going for the Hide, then the order doesn't matter.

    If you choose "Kill Drake":
The Apotheosis of Hope smiles, 'Nobility in camaraderie!'
The Apotheosis of Enmity says, 'Perhaps just blind hatred for the beast...'

    * Take out a decrepit ashenbone drake.

    * Kill Valorian Rholek.

The voice of Innoruuk overwhelms your thoughts, 'One less miserable pest tainting my plane. Perhaps you shall earn the right to suffer here eternally after I've killed you... This one shall return to my temple now.'

If you take out both the drake and the paladin:
The Apotheosis of Hope shakes her head is dismay...
The Apotheosis of Enmity breathes deeply and speaks with a voice tinged with euphoric pleasure, 'Such ruthless hatred, more!'

If you take out the drake and the paladin in the correct order:

    * Evil choice: Before heading south, go north toward the normal zone-in spot to find Squire Baerson on the platform, and take him out.

For Decayed Drecrepit Hide, you may have to pause while taking out Squire and make sure he turns twisted before finishing him off.

    * Attack Ashenbone Skullbreaker

For Decayed Drecrepit Hide, you may have to pause while taking out the Ashenbone and make sure it turns twisted before finishing it off.

    While fighting:
The drake's skeleton oozes a sickly sweet pus. The putrid substance begins to solidify into a glistening decrepit hide!

The Ashenbone Skullbreaker crumbles and shatters into a host of tiny fragments.

    * Ashenbone Skullbreaker is replaced by 10 Ashenbone Fragments -- take them all out.

    * Take out every NPC in the Hall of Truth building. Loot the bodies they leave, too. Check the two upstairs areas and take out those NPCs as well as their bodies. Some will be level 50 even-cons, others will be level 30 easy.

    * Evil choice: You might have to take out all roaming guards between Hall of Truth and Temple of Marr. Not sure on this one. You do not have to take out the merchants or guards which are inside other buildings.

Find him.

    * Evil choice: Take out every NPC in the Temple of Marr, including the basement and outside on the two ledges.

Take out the Apotheosis of Hope: To finish what Lhranc had started, parting the light from Kyrenna's soul. Take out the Apotheosis of Enmity: Or to reclaim the honor that all knights, even those of shadow, must have.

For completing this quest in the "most evil way" (10/10) you are rewarded with:

When you say in the most evil way (10/10), is this something that shows in the task window as an option? To get the hide, does it show as a optional step as well?

After completing the SK-specific script in North Ro, you are given a score in your chat window. A perfectly evil score should land you the achievement for "An Epic Retelling" which qualifies you for the Hatred special epic ornament. Examples:

Your journey has been interesting. You have proven to be honorable more often than not.
    A Shadowknight Class - III of X.
    A Paladin Class - VII of X.

Your journey has been interesting. You have proven to be notably more evil than not.
    A Shadowknight Class - VIII of X.
    A Paladin Class - I of X.

Along your journey you have proven to be the true paragon of Evil.
The story of a true Shadowknight should make for a more interesting telling of this tale.
    A Shadowknight Class - X of X.

For the Decayed Decrepit Hide -- the steps to get it are not shown. You have to kill the scripted NPCs in Plane of Hate in a certain sequence. The existence of the hide is hinted at as part of a message in a pop-up box during the Plane of Hate portion of the script. "The ashenbone drake rears back, its decrepit hide invoking "fond" memories of your past."

It might be wise to ensure you have all your epic weapons on you when you do this quest.

I did the quest once to get the Dark Blessing Ornament, and aside from a glitch in the Freeport session where I had to let the quest time out and restart it from North Ro, it went without issue. As my Innoruuk's Curse was on the wall of my house, I used my Innoruuk's Dark Blessing to fight Hope at the end of the quest, and all continued as normal.

On my second run through for the Innorruk's Curse ornament, I again attacked Hope with my Innoruuk's Dark Blessing, receiving the message that she was invulnerable to that weapon. After some consideration, I attacked Enmity with the same weapon and was able to continue the quest as normal. It had me wondering whether I was supposed to have been using Innoruuk's Curse for the fight instead, which of course was still on the wall of my house, as I had not needed it the first time through.

All guard at entrance of Freeport must be killed once they are on the Floor.
I let the last one alive after he told me where is Glohnor. The consequence is that once you clean the Temple the emote does not come at the Top. I had to go back kill the last guard and after it worked.

Just did this on my level 50 Drakkin SK. Was not easy. Some observations on Lord Vinman's post.

These two steps are by far the hardest.

Step 9: The "Evil route" is to head North and defeat Squire Baerson. Tough fight. Make sure to have as many HP as you can get, I had just over 7K fully buffed. Also getting a high level HP regen and several DMG shields really helps. I got my DS up to 110 per hit which did make the fight a bit easier. There is another wandering Follower of Marr at this point too, when he added, I was dead each time. Necessitating an exit to get more buffs. Every time I got back in (just head back to North Ro and click the eye thing that you pickup) he was back at 100% I had used Harm Touch to finish him off.

Step 10: This just sucked. The Ashenbone Skullbreaker was casting so many spells (list of spells below) on me they ultimately finished me off several times. What I finally ended up doing after a number (5 at least) attempts, was to get my Magic, Fire, Poison resists as close to 400 as possible. I did this by high level buffs full set of Intiricate Defiant Plate and number of AUGs and rings. I also used guild tribute to add an additional 20 Magic and 20 Fire resist. I also used personal tribute (they stack different spells) to add 20 Magic and Fire. I think my Magic was at 389 which allowed me to resists Bond of Death (-200 resist) every time. My Fire was about 370's but it was not enough to resist Ignite Blood all the time. This killed my regen. At 75% or so, the Ashenbone Skullbreaker changes in to black drake but still casts the same necro spells, but adds Cascading Darkness. Several times I had to retreat down the stairs and FD to regen HP. Skullbreaker does not regen fast so that is a good thing. At 50% or so the Ashenbone Skullbreaker splits into 10 in my case not six Ashenbone Fragments. Just the shear number of these things makes casting spells a pain also they hit you with a debuff that is -500 to damage shields. A few times I needed to back off and FD to regen health. Once I got them down to four I was able to deal with them much easier. These little guys would be much easier for a Ogre SK for sure. They stunned me constantly.

After this it was easy. I just killed everybody I saw when I got back into NFreeport (kill them, let them fall, target the lying corpse and ask where Glohnor was, then hit the corpse again to finish them off).

I've done the "An Epic Request" with a 52 monk (easy) 75 monk (easy) 90 Warrior (easy) 75 SK (much easier than at 50) 75 Berserker (easy when using the right axes) 75 shaman (easy), 50 wizard (easy), 80 rogue (easy).. The 50 SK was much, much harder than the others.

List of spells cast by Ashenbone Skullbreaker:

Paralyzing Earth, Ignite Blood, Envenomed Bolt, Bond of Death, Ignite Bones, Cascading Darkness, Drain Soul.

    # Dec 05 2013 at 2:17 AM Rating: Decent
At the part after you leave Plane of Hate and enter Freeport, you get to choose whether or not to keep the guard uniform. As of now, it doesn't matter. Going around asking people "where is Glohnor?" doesn't work. Neither does killing them and asking them while they're laying on the floor. I've had to restart it 3x and it never worked. What ended up working was fully slaughtering everyone in the paladin guild. I'd kill them, ask, "where is Glohnor?" just in case and when they wouldn't give me any info, I killed them. After killing everyone there, I got some red text instructing me to move on and that's finally what did the trick for me.
    Buggy?
    # Nov 29 2013 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
Also ran into problems with the Ashenbone Skullbreaker. It tears through me for 1.2k per hit. At 71, max hps I have are about 15k. Dead in seconds.

Bugged it - seems mathematically impossible.

Edit: Got past the Ashenbone after going back at 74 with quite a few more AA. Still a tough fight. Had to duck out of combat several times, feign to lose aggro, lifetap Zomm eye to get health back up, and then back into the fight. Got him down, used Leechcurse disc on the little ashenbone splinters that he becomes, and after that it was plain sailing.

Just seems tailored to mid 70's for level. Oddness.

According to Eq Resource the final fight requires that you use epic 1.0 ... if you don't bring it you need too... don't have it? You are apparently screwed.... Tried attacking final mob with epic 2.0 and could not even hit her. Good luck gang. If anyone knows different please tell me. This looks like the entire 'an epic request' task can't be done by SK unless they are carrying 1.0 to fight the final 'Hope'/ 'Enimity' mob mentioned in step 17.

A general play out of the event could be described as: The overall theme of the event is about the good side of a knight, and the bad side of a knight, regardless of being a Shadowknight or Paladin.

    1. Go to North Ro, NW corner where sewer zone entrance is and receive a location hit, as well as a blue fire beetle eye thingy.
    2. Activate the blue fire beetle eye thingy in North Ro, this ports you into the first instance as a lowly warrior.
    3. It might crash your computer, might not.
    4. Upon returning, or not having to return, you are placed near a merchant beating a thief, you hail the merchant and are given some response text, as well as a choice to help the merchant or help the thieft. I did both, did not seem to effect the outcome of the overall quest.
    5. After killing the merchant or the thief, two npcs spawn, one of hope and one of enemity. Follow their chat and they port you into the next instance. You appear diseased and eventually fall unconscious, the event part plays out to a fisherman healing you.
    6. Once unstunned you pick up your sword which is hilt first in the sand, and either leave the fisherman or kill him, again its about the good and evil in any Knight. However, if you kill him an AA screen will pop up and you can choose Life Tap, and receive Bash automatically.
    7. You run south, avoiding the guards as you see them. Eventually you will be emoted to run to the Southwest. Run southwest til you hit the zoneline to "oasis/southro."
    8. Upon reaching the zoneline, if you have killed the fisherman you will have to fight three guards, only 1 if you have left him alive. Once your fight is over, and a few emotes, you are ported into the Plane of Hate within the Maestro's area.
    9. After some emotes, you move to a knight battling an undead drake. I killed the knight, and the drake walks to the exit of the hall. You exit onto the big steps outside, and as you move around a selection advises you can either go north to battle Knights, or south to continue to Inny's Palace. Twice I killed the Knights and once went south the Palace, doesn't make a difference, you either make the "Hope" Npc or the "Enemity" npc happy:0
    10. Upon reaching the Palace, there is a large undead drake, or dracoliche laying on the ground. As you approach it, it springs up and kicks you back, Charge and kill it, as you are fighting it alters a few times, and eventually turns ino 6 individual baby drakes. Once you kill all that move into the now open door ahead of you.
    11. Emotes start up, the door shuts behind you and you watch the event auto play out before getting punted to Freeport, the old original Freeport.
    12. As you start up again, you have another choice to make, to pick up a Militia uniform and avoid fights, or simply stay as you are and reak havoc. You are level 50, and given a nasty two hand blade Innoruuk's Dark Curse (or somethign close, but it was 230 damage, low delay). Your goal here is find Glohnor. If you fight the npcs, you fight til they fall, then ask them "where is Glohnor," or something close to that. Eventually you find a merchant lady, who will direct you to his house near the bank. If you use the uniform, same thing, go around and talk to the npcs asking "Where is Glohnor," the same merchant woman will direct you to his house near the bank.
    13. You go to the bank, not entering, there will be a residence door to the right as you face the bank. Enter the residence and you receive an emote. Pick up the book on the table, and you get your next target, the Temple of Marr.
    14. As you approach the entry way to outer wall area of the temple, you receivee an emote telling you to kill all inside and find Glohnor somewhere inside. Felt like SW Episode III, when Anakin cleans out the Jedi temple.
    15. I cleared all the clerics and knights, and eventually made my way to the top where you see blinking orbs floating in the air, and receive an emote about staying in the Shadows. This is where I was not paying attention:) The AA tab, I thought you only had the bash and Harm touch, however there is a general tab to and have tons of others, one of which is Gather Shadows.
    16. Activate Gather Shadows within the lights or close to them, and the final event starts.
    17. Eventually you choose to battle "hope" or "Enemity," I guess kinda defines your character desires. I chose to fight Enemity, didn't like her attitude at all;x Once you choose your ported to the outside pond area, where your fight begins.
    18. Upon beating the npc, there are some emotes, and notification of success, as well as a kick back to North Ro outside Freeport. Carry on with your location hits:0

Sorry about the brief synopis, but I figured I give some kind of guidance. If there are things missing, I will fix that up since I will be doing the quest again x2:0

    2. Activate the blue fire beetle eye thingy in North Ro, this ports you into the first instance as a lowly warrior.
    3. It might crash your computer, might not.

The key to beating the Ahenbone Skullbreaker is to back off halfway down the stairs, then feign death, if nobody else has pointed this out yet. I'm an 80 SK, decently geared on Fippy, but only about 350 AA. Skullbreaker was womping my ***, so i decided to back off and feign, and then try to rest and go at it again. Once FD broke combat, it only took me 30 seconds before officially out of combat to regenerate. Broke combat, regen, get back into the fight and destroy the mother trucker.

    Death comes.
