This task begins with Laarthik V`Shin in Bloody Kithicor. He is located in a tent in the far eastern part of the zone, the Obliteration Army headquarters (near the Commonlands zone). To speak with him, you must equip an Army of Obliteration Medallion.
You say, 'Hail, Laarthik V`Shin' Laarthik V`Shin says 'I have orders to dispose of one Aridane Ubel, who we now know is responsible for the chaos which has disrupted the Army of Obliteration. He may be a powerful enchanter, but I intend to fix the spell of death upon him. He is awaiting a [rendezvous] with his contact in the Silverwing Regiment who is now dead.' You say, 'A rendezvous?' Laarthik V`Shin says 'Go to the rendezvous, and speak with Ubel, but do not try to reason with him. He knows he is being hunted. The enchanter no doubt has many methods of protecting himself, so be on your guard and alert to his tricks. Will you do this [deed]?' You say, 'I'll do this deed' Laarthik V`Shin says 'Very well. May the spirit of Innoruuk flow through you! When you are ready, hail me again, and I shall direct you to the officer who knows the whereabouts of Aridane Ubel.' You have been assigned the task 'Destroy the Impostor'. A presumed ally of the Army of Destruction has broken faith with Laarthik. Make him see the error of his ways. Speak with Laarthik 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) You say, 'Hail, Laarthik V`Shin' Laarthik V`Shin says 'I believe Aridane Ubel was involved somehow with Lanys T`Vyl herself, and since Lanys was the one who interrogated Ubel's late contact in the Silverwing regiment, she would be the person to ask. Be careful. Her temper flares when she's been torturing prisoners. If her eyes turn a lighter shade of ice-blue, know that it is time for you to leave.' Speak with Lanys T`Vyl 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl' Lanys T`Vyl says 'Yes. Ubel. I want him dead, the traitorous coward. Find him by a tree due east of the Tainorith House, that's in the southern edge of the forest, midway between the lake and the hamlet of Avenwood.' Go to a tree due east of the Tainorith House in the southern central part of the forest. Look for Aridane Ubel, an enchanter 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) Avatar of Aridane Ubel is located in the southernmost part of the zone (due south of The Void portal, then east a little ways of the houses). Speak with the Avatar of Aridane Ubel 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) You say, 'Hail, Avatar of Aridane Ubel' Avatar of Aridane Ubel says 'I'm looking for an agent of the Teir'Dal resistors, and you are not he! Prepare to die!' Though he threatens you, he does not attack. Kill the Avatar of Aridane Ubel 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) Avatar of Aridane Ubel says 'No, you fool!' He hits for a max ~1,700 and has no special abilities. You have slain Avatar of Aridane Ubel! Avatar of Aridane Ubel's corpse says 'I never saw it coming. But then, I was never real.' Your faction standing with Thaulen Teir'Duuren got worse. Your faction standing with Silla Herald got better. Kill the real Ubel 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) Aridane Ubel spawns and doesn't seem interested enough to bother attacking you, so you can rest up and attack him as you wish. Aridane Ubel says 'Another damned adventurer trying to foil the great plan? Do your worst, you cannot defeat us.' This version is a little more difficult, hitting for a max ~2,100. You have slain Aridane Ubel! Aridane Ubel's corpse says 'I can only die once. We can travel in time, and kill you hundreds of times.' Loot the Discord Amulet from Ubel's imposter 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) He drops Ubel's Discord Amulet (only one per kill). Deliver the Discord Amulet to Lanys T`Vyl 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor) Lanys T`Vyl says 'Glorious. You have performed well, in true Teir'Dal fashion! The conspiracy is put down, and the traitorous enchanter is dead. This amulet of his is rather strange. It seems to pull at my mind. Strange. It is no matter, you have earned yourself a reward for your exceptional efforts. I'll expect great things from you in the battle to come.' Your faction standing with Silla Herald got better. You don't need to hail him and when he dies the real Aridane Ubel spawns and he drops the amulet. I had to do this twice and hailed the first one with two characters and was afraid that I would have to drop the quest and redo it with my 2nd char but everything turned out fine.

I got faction raised with 44. Level 85 pally, not sure if level influences amount of faction raised or if the +41 noted above is a mistake.

As of 11/13/2009 -- You must levitate over the fallen tree (general area) to get the update. I had to get some height off the hill to the side.. and float across. Jumping, and running around for 10minutes did nothing. With Levy it updated in a few seconds.
Otherwise easy task.
Remember they never attack you -- so you can get ready all you want and 'pull' them. No proximity agro either.

Stood at location -862 -762 which is in front of the Avatar of of Aridane Ubel and the pressed the space bar to jump. Got the update. My character is a halfling, so you can actually get the update without Levitation.

easily soloable for an 84 necro - just rot and dot him like crazy - OR there's plenty of room to kite him around his tree - no adds in the immediate area
As of 4/5/09 still MUST LEV over Avatar to get update

I ran to him on my cleric with no buffs and got UD a few steps before him.
The spawn time on the avatar of Aridane Ubel is 10 minutes. If you plan to do this with multiple characters you can get it for everyone just make sure you don't do the Speak with Avatar of Aridane Ubel part of it with more then one character. If you did the hail with everyone and then kill the avatar thats okay too and everyone will get the update BUT once you kill the real abel afterwards there is only one amulet to loot which is NOT okay. So your much better off only hailing the avatar with one character and going through it like that. Then you can pick off where you left off once the avatar respawns.
Im not sure if you can kill the avatar without going through the task first to get the real one to spawn which you would then kill to get the amulet. Just to be on the safe side i stared over with 3 of my characters. Once he spawns he starts casting buffs as others have stated if you attack the real abel the moment he spawns he won't have any time to buff himself though.
Tanked Abel with an 85 monk with 3100 ac and 25789 hp buffed and 23 points into combat stability and combat agility. Max hit on monk was 1838. Conned yellow.
As a side note the zone as of my posting is very buggy. Certain spells and disciplines/abilities will not work in the zone. SOE has yet to do a thing about this so be prepared. One time in this zone my druids dot's would not work and other times my monks special attacks like Calanin's Synergy and monks aura wouldn't work. Key things for those 2 classes. Though it did seem to be different spells/abilities not working on 2 different days. So maybe if your lucky you won't be effected too poorly by this.

These two, Avatar and the real one, cast self buffs you want to cancel.
The second one cast a Rapidity and a Shield buff, I pulled with
Disillusionment song and slowed him and he was more manageable.

casted levi and updated when i walked about two feet past avatar.

Also having levitate on for the tree part will help, 5 min with no update, stopped and put on FoE, instant update as soon as buff landed.

It must have been changed since you did this. I tried doing this with 4 characters at once. What a pain waiting for him to respawn. He only drops one amulet each time. I ended up dropping task on the other 3 after i completed it the first time with one of my charaacters and redoing it with each of them individually. When the third part of the task is updated it doesn't automatically spawn the avatar if he isn't already up.

Where is the damn loc of the update for the 3rd part. We have ran EVERYWHERE around Ubel and no update...

-842 , -742 ... very close to the avatar guy... needed to illusion to a big race for my dwarf to get the update...
DON'T BE SHRUNK... took almost an hour to figure that out lol
Couldn't get an update with my Halfling until I broke out my jester and was increased in size. If you are a race of smaller stature bring an illusion or something or you will not get an update.
You can also jump to get the update, if you are at the right spot beside the tree he is facing. Did this with gnome.
