You must complete at least one Trial in the Plane of Justice in order to complete this quest.

Askr the Lost may be found in the caves near zone-in. He's in the last cave tending bar near the zone-out tree.

Askr the Lost judges you amiably -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Askr the Lost'

Askr looks up at you and when he does, you take note of the scraggly beard on his weather-worn face; the scent of ale permeates your senses and pushes you to look away slightly. In an apparent drunken stupor, Askr begins to speak with surprising clarity. 'Here to wash the windows and clean the flooring, are you? No? Well, you can't be much help then. And the likes of you obviously wouldn't be able to get rid of the massive problem we're having. Bah, says I. You can help me no more than any of these other vagrants. Leave me alone to my ale and my misery.'

He won't say anything else to you until you give him a Storm Giant Head. These drop randomly from any giant in the zone.

The drunken stupor that Askr had been in earlier appears to vanish in an instant; a glimmer of hope now flashes in the depths of his eyes. 'This is the head of a giant. . . a storm giant from outside the caves.' Askr ponders what this revelation could mean. He mutters to himself, 'If it is possible that someone has indeed bested a giant here in the planes, then perhaps it is possible. . .' He looks back at you very sternly and asks, 'Tell me now and be truthful, was it you who severed the head of this giant from his body?'

You say, 'It was me.'

Askr the Lost says 'Truly, I am amazed that someone of your caliber was able to do what I could not. I have been stuck in these desolate caves for so long, I had almost lost hope that I would ever find a way to get rid of those accursed giants. But you. . . you have been able to best at least one of them. It is reasonable to suggest that if you are able to dispatch one, you may be able to dispatch others. I need to know for sure if you are as capable an individual as it appears you are. This is very important, so are you paying attention?'

You say, 'Yes, I am paying attention.'

Askr the Lost says 'This place was once beautiful and serene, with the great Karana's showers falling day and night soothing the lands and the creatures that inhabit it. Alas, there was an invasion of a superior force -- the storm giants which you have encountered. They laid waste to the lands, burned down trees, and have caused so much havoc I don't even know what is to become of it. Originally, they came as one group and crossed the breadth of the land pillaging and plundering all that they could find. Over time, though, they grew apart and distinct factions grew around Mount Grenidor.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'To the south of Grenidor lay Srerendi, Shores of the Lost and the Srerendi storm giants. Born of the ocean and the cool air, they lay claim to the shores and the plains inland as their own. To the west of Grenidor lay Krendic, Sands of Chaos and the Krendic storm giants. They have skin that is thick as dirt and blend in well with their surroundings. To the north of the great mount lay Kelek`Vor, the Forest of Tears and the Kelek`Vor storm giants. They are born of the wood and take great pleasure in seeing it used to their own purposes.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'I must know if you are truly capable of defeating the storm giants that abound here. To do this, you must slay one of each of the three factions and return to me something specific to each tribe: from the Srerendi storm giants, return their shorn beard; from the Krendic storm giants, a piece of their rocky carcass; from the Kelek`Vor storm giants, the crest from their warrior garments. These three items will ensure that you indeed do have the ability to defeat the foul denizens that have seized control of these lands. When you have acquired the three of these items, seal them in this bag and return them to me, so that I know that you are indeed capable of fulfilling a hero's destiny.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity. You must fill the bag with a Storm Volaas Beard (random drop from ocean giants), Storm Taarid Bone (random drop from desert giants), and Storm Satuur Sash (random drop from forest giants). Combine these three items in the bag to craft Askr's Sealed Bag of Verity. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

Askr looks over the remnants of the storm giants in his hands then looks up at you with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. 'Then it's true! You have the means to push back the scourge of giants. . . you must go forth to the Bastion of Thunder and finish there what you have started here. It is imperative that you clear the forces of giants from the Bastion so that order can be restored to the thunderous reaches beyond.'
You have received a character flag!

You say, 'What Bastion of Thunder?'

Askr the Lost says 'To be honest, I cannot say that it is entirely possible, what with the ferocity of the giants and their reluctance to leave the lands they now inhabit. From what I do know, each of the Leaders of each tribe has one piece to allow entrance into the Bastion of Thunder. When two of these pieces are combined, they form an esoteric medallion that allows instant passage to the thunderous plains beyond. If you can find and seal two pieces of the medallion in this bag, I will be able to forge them into the medallion that will help you on your journey.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity again. You'll now need two Esoteric Medallions from different giant camps. The named giants in the Ocean, Desert and Forest camps drop these. They're all named the same (Esoteric Medallion), but identify as west, south and north. Any two will do, as long as they're from different camps. Combine the two in the bag to create an Esoteric Meld. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

The mystical medallion given to you by Askr settles around your neck and then disappears into nothingness. There is no call for alarm, for the medallion is now a part of your soul.

Askr the Lost says 'You have retrieved the pieces! You are well on your way to pushing forth on your quest to return balance to the plains of thunder. The most difficult part lies before you. . . deep in the heart of Mount Grenidor, there is a tempest that rages on eternally. It is there that you must present your medallion to the skies above to be transported to the citadel of thunderous might. Take the medallion and go forth, then deliver these storm giants to their creator!'

You have received a character flag!

"You must now enter the Bastion of Thunder from the Plane of Storms (it's in the center area, with the Tempest Toads, and the tornado). Just put invisibility up and click on the small shrine in the middle. Once you do this, you'll be able to use the zoneline in Tranquility."

This part is no longer required - you can zone right in from Tranquility without having zoned in from Storms first.

...and what I mean is that you go through the Mavuin dialogue (pre-trial, but you can do it after trial as well), a trial completion, Tribunal dialogue, and then back to Mavuin to finish the Plane of Justice flag.

Until you have that, you will not get the talisman on your /keys.

But if you do the BoT access quest first before the trial, you will need to see the Seer in PoK to unlock my memories to straighten out your flags. Once your flags are straight, then you will receive your Talisman of Thunderous Foyer on your /keys.

I hadn't seen this posted here yet, so I figured I'd share that it's possible to do the combines out of order if you get all the quest pieces at once and then go to him for the turn-ins, ie. combining the two Esoteric Medallions before the bone, beard, and sash. When I did this, the Askr retained what step of the quest I was on and would not give me another bag (since turning in the first combine is a prerequisite to getting the bag back for the second combine). I solved this by turning in another Storm Giant Head, which restarted the quest. I was then able to do the "first" combine, turn it in, and then immediately turn in the second combine which was already in my bags.

A guildmate advised me that you can also get the bag from Askr by logging out and back in, but I have not tested this myself. I hope this helps!

As of 07/23/21 - logging out did not resolve this issue for me when I accidentally did the medallion combine before the other parts. I tried turning in the original giant head to restart the cycle, and that did not work either. However; I was able to destroy the one I had in inventory, and got a new giant head, at which point it allowed me to restart the quest with Askr when I gave him the new giant head, and proceeded as stated above.

'Hail Askr the Lost'

'Askr looks up at you and when he does, you take not of the scraggly beard on his weather-worn face: the cent of ale permeates your senses and pushes you to look away slightly. Leave me alone to my ale and my misery.'

'Hail Askr the Lost'

Askr the Lost says 'Did you not hear me? If you're not here to help, then go elsewhere. I am so very busy...busy with ale, busy with misery...ha, that rhymed!'

'Hail Askr the Lost'

Askr raises an eyebrow your way, as though he is becoming slightly irritated by your constant babble. He goes back to his drinking with hopes that you'll leave him alone long enough to drink in peace.

'What problem?"

Askr points drunkenly towards the exit of the cave. 'Have you not seen the foul denizens of destruction outside? Hrmph! Going everywhere they please, pillaging, plundering...I'm lucky to have survived this long. Bah, it doesn't matter, there's nothing that anyone can do to stop them, and that is why I'm still stuck here with my *hic* potions.'

My g/f and I recently started a bard and ranger duo, they are currently 51 and we thought maybe we'd get them some free aa's and flags. We started with poj trials, did that with 75 monk (me) 75 cleric (g/f) and my box 74 mage, along with our babies and my g/f's brother who's a 74 monk. Trials were a piece of cake. We were only going to do one, but ended up doing all 6. Failed the lashing? one. Think that's what it's called. Anywho, to the point. Any of the trials were a piece of cake really and then we went to PoStorms to do flagging for BoT. Took about an hour and a half, but we killed all the giants with the same group mentioned above except the 74 monk logged. Was cake. Anyone needs help send me a tell on Emarr.
BoT key quest before Trial
# Dec 26 2006 at 4:35 AM Rating: Decent
Just did this for my 66 zerker, first time doing it without a trial win. After the key run finished and I did a quick exe trial, I went to Seer, spammed unlock memories at her a few times until the only unresolved flag showing was the correct one for another unfinished flag, checked guided meditation, then went over to Gren and got my IWF and AAs. Checked /keys and Talisman of Thunderous Foyer is listed now, so it seems everything can be resolved after the fact these days.
Did it perfect, still won't let me in
# Dec 21 2006 at 8:23 AM Rating: Decent
Went thru this entire text word for word and without incident, except for keeping me in zone at a lvl 52, but afterwards everything went smoothly, did the hand in, the combines without any problems just as it was above stated. Then we went to BoT to gain entrance, it tells us that i do not meet the requirements.

So now we back track and do the trial of exicution, talk to Mavuin, Tribunal, Mavuin again and back to pok once again. After getting all the flags (or so we thought) we try BoT again, still don't meet the requirements. So now we are lost as to what exactly we missed .. Suggestions please.

I did this with my 62 clr who hasn't done any POJ trial or anything like that. He turned in the head and followed the instruction stated above. He combined the 3 specific items from each section of the zone and turned in the bag. He didn't turned in the medallion and now he can zone into BOT. If I remember correctly, you can zone into BOT without doing any quest or trial if you are 63 after they changed the rule?
Update
# Oct 17 2006 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
You can zone into BoT at level 62 or higher regardless of doing this mission or not. I would try finishing this quest again once you done a PoJ trial to get a free aa (exe trial is easiest for most poeple)

The reason your whole group does not get flagged is this is considered a key (and a flag) so everyone in the group needs to do it themself to get the key. Or you can get to level 62 to get into BoT.

Access to BoT
# Jun 10 2004 at 5:46 PM Rating: Good
Heres my situation.

I had not fully completed the PoJ flagging (didn't go back and hail Mauvin) when I handed all the PoS drops to Askr. I checked carefully the text from Askr on the finally hand in on the combined medallions and its word for word correct and I got a character flag. After realising that I couldnt zone into BoT I backtracked my steps via Seers. At this point I went back to PoJ and completed the flagging.

Then went to PoS to try and zone into BoT. But still no luck. Seers still tels me that:
"You have shown your prowess in battle to Askr, now you must make strides to get to the Bastion of Thunder." which means - Turned in Bone, Beard, Sash. Have yet to turn in medalions.

I'm pretty certain that I need to collect the medallions again and redo that hand in to Askr. Anyone got any ideas ?

Btw the way its shaping up is YOU MUST DO THE POJ FLAGGING BEFORE HANDING IN THE MEDALLIONS TO ASKR, for those of you who dont want to read all of this post, which if you read the top of the page is exactly what it says../sigh

I can see why early on guilds that did these things for the first time were totally digusted with the whole process. What i mean by this is, PoJ trials aren't exactly , easy (i suppose once ya do it, and find the proper grouping, it is) but, to top off the challenge, you have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off,..hailing this guy,...going to that guy,...getting back to another guy, so you can talk to peter, then give something to paul,..then hail mary. Jumping thru endless hoop after confusing hoop,..you head to poS to complete this series of hoop-jumping,...only to find out ,..you missed hailing some guy ,..ages back,..in a different quest , that has now affected the outcome of your current quest,..and you are ticked off. I can relate to this. And i think its pretty dumb. Im not saying it doesnt follow the story line, and all that, im jus sayin...i can see where guilds were very very frustrated now,..undertaking these adventures,...all the way up to the elemental planes....and find out they cannot get into a zone cuz you didn't hail someone 6 months ago.
For the amount of effort and people it takes to accomplish all this,..Sony shoulda lightened up with some of the ridiculous running around, and hailing process' that are so detrimental down the line, that it prevents further progresion should you happen to have missed a hailing.

It's actually *not* that bad, Banedon. SoE has provided a mechanism to allow you to find out what flags you have and not, and to "reset" events and re-align them so that you can go back and hail that toon that you missed 6 months ago and have everything fall into place. Check out Seer Mal Nae`Shi in PoK for both the flagging corrections ("/say unlock memories") and to see flags (/sit, then "/say guided meditation"). Here is a good link to track down those messages: Safehouse Flag List

It may be that you did not go back down and talk to Mavuin in the basement. Not sure, but if you hail Seer Mal Nei' Shi at loc Neg 40, Neg 200, she will reply to you. It will look like a tell from a PC. Note the reply, then go to Google and enter "POP Flag and Seer Quotes" in the search window and you will find a link to a site that translates many of the replies. The link was posted by Sedrek, a kind Cleric on Bristlebane. Hope this helps.
