You must do the Investigator's Badge Quest before doing this one. Before you go on with this one, be sure to get an extra unsigned confession off 'an investigator'.

You say, 'Hail, Vegalys Keldrane'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Greetings to you, citizen. By order of the Council of Qeynos I have been given the duty of apprehending the individuals [responsible] for unleashing this terrible plague upon the people and the lands of Antonius Bayle. The more I look into this matter, the more I come to find that this will be no easy task.

You say, 'How can I advance further?'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Interested in advancing further are you? Excellent, we are ready to begin the next phase of our operation. We have gathered a great deal of information as a result of the latest series of arrests. What we require most now are [interrogators] that are able to pry the information we require out those less then willing to talk.

You say, 'What interrogators?'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'If you are interested in joining the ranks of our interrogators and helping Qeynos further as we bring these fiends and murderers to justice, turn in your investigator's Badge and I will give you the briefing document you need. I already know I can trust my investigator's, so there is no need to further test you.

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Very well, here is the briefing document. Please read it very carefully. I wish you luck friend, this mission could prove to be dangerous.

The document leads you to an interrogator in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, an interrogator'

an interrogator says 'I see you wish to become an interrogator. This is not a duty for the weak of heart you know. This job sometimes requires. .. an interrogator coughs, 'a little muscle I guess you would say.'

an interrogator says 'Nevertheless, we have an important job to do. There is a man by the name of Theodore Exanthem who is a known member of the Bloodsaber cult. He fled from Qeynos some time ago and we have been hot on his tail ever since.

an interrogator says 'We have tracked this man down and we now know his whereabouts. However, we have bigger fish to fry today then just this low life. Theodore knows the location of two other individuals also suspected of hiding out here in the plains.

an interrogator says 'Sadly, these fiends were the two that slipped into Surefall Glade and poisoned the waters there. Though the druids were able to quickly combine their efforts and neutralize the toxins with their magicks, grievous damage was done none the less. Two of the great protectors of the hills and the glade, Holly Windstalker and Cros Treewind, became seriously ill as did one of the glade's sacred bears.

an interrogator says 'Holly and Cros, sickened as they were, removed themselves from the Hills to weather out their illness and to keep the disease from spreading further. During their absence, the Bloodsabers were easily able to traffic in the materials needed to complete their terrible work.

an interrogator shakes his head sadly and says, 'Tragically, Cros Treewind was attacked by one of the sacred bears which was maddened by its illness. In his weakened state Cros was unable to defend himself and was killed by this defiled grizzly, one of the very creatures he was sworn to protect.'

an interrogator says 'So our goal is to pry the information we need from Theodore Exanthem so that we may bring these two fugitives to justice. After getting him to comply, you are to collect a confession from Theodore and have him lead us to the two fugitives. Give me Theodore's confession and the heads of these two fugitives and you shall have your badge.

an interrogator says 'I believe I know where we can find him. Follow me please.'

Follow the interrogator.

an interrogator says 'Theodore Exanthem by order of the Council of Qeynos and his lordship Antonius Bayle, I order you to come out of there immediately!

an interrogator says 'Theodore Exanthem, you will [take us to the location] of Marcus Cachexia and Morley Murrain immediately.

Theodore Exanthem says 'I think you've been breathing the air in the Northern Plains of Karana for too long. I will most certainly not tell you anything about their whereabouts, much less lead you right to them. You are not right in the head.

an interrogator says 'Vile beast! You are withholding information on two men guilty of terrible atrocities, not the least of which was causing the death of one of Qeynos' most respected and well known citizens, Cros Treewind! As an Interrogator I am authorized to use physical force if necessary.

Theodore Exanthem says 'What a joke! I'm not telling you a thing. You don't look like you could scare a moss snake. I'm not afraid of you!

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem reels back, his eyes wide with shock. Ow, he says nervously.

an interrogator says '[Take us to the location] of Markus Cachexia and Morley Murrain!

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem winces and says, Oh. Yeah right. Like I'm afraid of that moron or something. Theodore glances nervously over at you.

an interrogator says 'Take us to Markus Chachexia and Morley Murrain this instant or I'll turn you over to my friend here who appears to be much stronger then I am!

an interrogator smiles and says, 'Well, I'm getting tired. Why don't you hit him for a while. Maybe you will be more convincing then I have been.'

Attack him one time without a weapon. After a short time, he'll respond.

Theodore Exanthem says 'Sweet father of rot, alright already! Stop hitting me and tell me what you want me to do!

Give him the unsigned confession document you got from the investigator. (This step may no longer be valid, I was unable to get a confession document from an interrogator but received a signed document once arriving at the abandoned druid ring)

an interrogator says '[Take us to the location] of Markus Cachexia and Morley Murrain!'

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem says 'Fine follow me creeps.

At this point you follow Theodore Exanthem to the south to the abandoned druid ring. The culprits spawn along with some skeletal servants and ghouls. They are Morley Murrain and Markus Chachexia.

Theodore Exanthem says 'There... They are hiding out just down the hill here... Now release me!'

An interrogator says 'Not so fast. If you want your freedom back, sign this confession immediately.'

Theodore Exanthem makes a big X at the bottom of the document and hands it back saying, 'A bunch of worthless thugs is all you folks are!' (Note a signed confession appeared on my cursor)

An interrogator says 'You are on your own for now, Elina. You know what to do -- return to me when the deed is done.

Markus Cachexia says 'Undead legions assist me!'

Bring back their heads along with the signed confession to an interrogator at the tree where you first found him. (Note about a 12 minute spawn)

an interrogator says 'Excellent work, you did just fine today. You'll make a fine interrogator. Talk to Vegalys about advancing further.

You receive your Interrogator's Badge.

Just a couple notes
# Jul 31 2001 at 10:51 AM Rating: Default
Well I did the quest and a couple things came up--

(1) Turned in my badge #1 after talking to Vegalys. Went to south Qeynos to get my confession document. No investigator. Wandered all over town, thinking maybe somebody was doing the quest and using him. Nope, just not there.
Ended up running all the way back to NK, killing the guy from part 1 again, and turning in his helmet to spawn the investigator (which it did).

(2) Found the interrogator after a druid tracked him down (I didn't have the loc at the time). Went through all the steps and then nearly forgot to hand the confession document to Theodore. I had already told him to "take us to the location" and he was on the move. Ran up to him and handed it off, and it still worked. Got it back signed while he was walking up the hill.

(3) After the fight I turned the items and and got the bagde. Then interrogator despawned. I went back to check his spawn point, he wasn't there. So not sure what the respawn time is, but it looks like you can't do the quest mulitple times (if you have a friend with you that also wants to do it, for exampe).
Next Step?

Anyone actually found the keywords for the next step? I doubt the next step is in the game, but there has to be a dead end keyword found before we'll even know for sure.
Easy way

Unsigned Confession Document

I have not been able to get the unsigned confession document from the interrogator. At what point does he give it to you? I have asked for one from him at each stage upto and after asking "Theodore Exanthem" to "take us to the location". Perhaps I am not asking correctly. Any suggestions would help.

It says Unsigned Confession Document, but you really use a Confession Document from the investigator in S Qeynos you were with in the first quest.

As a 40 monk, I found this one quite fun. The most annoying thing was finding the investigator in the beginning, but really annoyingly is the slow assed pace he walks at.

I killed the first SK after doin the confession bit, but they all dropped me to 1 bubble. After a mend, to half way, I took out the second sk, looted both corpses and Feign Death'd to mend up. Again, on one bubble. (Damn that initial Harm Touch x 2).

You are then supposed to ask about advancement, but that just gives the Interrogator's Quest again. Can't wait to see what happens next :)

Morley summons 3 at a time, and Markus summons 6 at a time, hence your trouble with the place "swimming" with undead after the fight. I just concentrated on the 2 SKs, and killed them as fast as possible. The longer you take, the more they summon. Also, one guy conned blue and the other black/white to my lvl 27 ranger. Needless to say, I needed a hand taking these two out.

If you are doing this quest with a group, make sure everyone has their interrogator briefs, but you only need one to get everyone their signed confession documents from Theadore.
The pauses may throw some people off, it did me the first time. When the interrogator is talking to Theadore, keep Theadore targeted but don't say or do anything yet.
You will suddenly lose the target, just target Theadore again and say "Take us to the Location" and wait several seconds. You may or may not get a message about Theadore gulps or something like that (I don't remember the exact wording). If after 30 seconds or so no message pops up, hit Theadore one time with a punch. You will get the message that you have slain him.
Now hand him your confession document, and have anyone else in your group hand Theadore their confession documents. Everyone will get back the signed document.
Then say "Take us to the location" and he will lead you to the ring, or you can just run there and kill the guys out right if you can. A lvl 54 can single pull these guys. Kill the two mobs, and loot their heads.
If you are doing it with a group, don't turn the stuff in to the interrogator yet. Have the next person turn in their book and the interrogator will head back to the hermits and Theadore will respawn. Repeat until everyone in group has the heads.
Unfortunetely, only one person can turn the heads and the document in at a time, but then it's simply a matter of waiting for the interrogator to respawn for everyone to turn in their items.
The interrogator respawned for us at about and hour, maybe and hour and ten minutes.
Now if you need the confession document from the investigator and somebody already has him as a pet, just run up to the investigator, target him and say "Give me a confession document." He will give it to you and you are set. It won't ***** up their quest at all.
If you are doing the first quest in the series, after you kill the npc by the docks, ask the investigator for another confession document before you turn in the npc head and the two confessions. That way you can just run to Velgys, turn in your badge and head off to SK.

PS. As to the summoning, if they die fast, you don't have to worry about that.
2nd part done...3rd part?

i did the 2nd part before the spoiler, and i too messed up, though it didn't help that someone attacked interrogator.

anyway, after completing the 2nd part, the key words of "advancing further" seem a bit odd since that's for the 2nd part. When the 3rd part comes out we won't know the key words, they should be different than 2....but that's my question, is 3rd part out, has anyone given the 2nd investigator badge to Veldys?

This quest can be a little buggy. When I got to it, another Druid had done it about a half hour previously, but failed because Morley and Markus killed him. Theodore stayed spawned, too, though the Interrogator depopped. When the Interrogator respawned (about another half hour after I came upon this guy,) I did the quest, and there ended up being *two* Theodores.

Morley and Markus are nasty, I had serious trouble soloing them even as a 44th level Druid. Markus lead off with a Harm Touch, and they both had some minions with them. They can also summon more, though I wasn't paying close attention to the process that they used to do so. Markus calls up 'Summoned Minions," they look like skeletons, while Morley summons "Wraiths," which look like very small spectres. I had to kill them by DoTing them and running around a lot, healing myself once. Unfortunetely, this gave them plenty of time to call up reinforcements.

By the time I was done, the place was just *swimming* with Wraiths (either Markus doesn't summon as much, or else there's random chance involved.) The other Druid, who was watching me do the quest, counted *40* in his track window. I ran around a lot, looting the heads on the fly. I also turned in the heads and the Confession Document while they were hitting me. They eventually lost interest (though they're pretty fast, I might add. Not as fast as SoW, but fast.) I came back armed with a chloroplast and a damage shield, and waded into them, I managed to slay a good dozen this way, with a few breaks for the Chloro to work its magic. Another high level character, a Necromancer, took the rest.

I estimate Markus and Morley to be somewhere in their mid twenties, the summoned minions in their teens. I could be way off, though. If you are less than 40th level, *bring a group.* If you are over that, making killing those two *fast* a top priority, and be prepared to run around a lot. The summoned critters did *not* despawn when Markus and Morley were killed, in fact the mop-up operation took over an hour, and none of them had despawned.

How much did Markus HT you for? Get that number, subtract one, and divide by ten, and that's his level.

That's not to say that Morley will be the same, but still... might be a bit more indicative than "mid twenties".

Hail,

Akela here..

The problem was not all of the text from my log appeared in the description. You ARE supposed to give Theodore the unsigned confession document "before" he leads you up the hill. He poofs when the battle starts. I know because the first time i did the quest i didn't get it signed. Lost the heads and had to fight the wraights and minions again.

So, while you are correct in stateing that there was something missing, be kind to those posting, (and Ala for trying to sift thru the logs)..

You skipped a very important part. After you get the book, you must find "an investigator" in SQ and get an unsigned confession document.

Let me say that this quest should not be attempted alone if you are a Tank under lvl 35... espically a lvl 31 Paladin. those two guys will make mincemeat of you and if you wait too long they will continue to summon more Wrath's and Minions ( there were at least 20 wraith's and about 15 minions left at the ring after I finally finished the two guys off)

Last Word Bring some help... espically a druid)

# Jul 26 2001 at 4:37 PM Rating: Default
If anyone low enough to get an accurate con has done this, or watched it done, it might be helpful to know the levels of the undead minions and wraiths. Also, do the undead despawn when the NPC's are killed?
RE: What levels are the undead?
# Jul 26 2001 at 6:32 PM Rating: Good
First let me emphasize this since I did it incorrectly the first time. AFTER you kill Theodore (doesn't matter if you use a weapon or not) but BEFORE you tell him to take you to the location, give him the confession document and get it back signed. He WILL despawn after his friends spawn and not only will you have to fight his friends, you will have to restart from the verry beinning of the FIRST badge quest. Take the advice of someone who did not carefully follow instructions.

I was level 34 (ranger) for this second part. I had a 39 Necro guildmate helping me. The two main opponents were blue to me, and all the minions were green. Half the minions attacked us, then the two big guys. Later after they were dead and the interrogator was reset, the remaining minions were still at the druid ring ruins, so they do NOT despawn. I dispatched two raised minions and three wraiths with less than one bubble of health lost with no help from anyone. My guess is they are level 15-18 but its only a guess. They could be as low as 10 or 12.

RE: What levels are the undead?
# Jul 28 2001 at 12:46 AM Rating: Default
Actually, it is possilbe to give Theodore the confession at any point after he's respawned after being "coerced." He'll return a signed confession any time after that. In fact, I got mine when a druid who botched the quest (got killed by Markus and Morley early, I don't know how,) had a Theodore around. He hit him once, and got the document. I did the same. Since the Interrogator wasn't around, Theodore never left.

So if you miss that part, you can always "piggy back" on someone else's quest, by giving your confession document to Theo after they give theirs. It should work fine. The quest does need to be started, though, as I don't think Theo spawns by himself.

I'd agree with Greyhawke as to the summoned minions, as I mentioned above we were mopping them up well over an hour later and they had not despawned. You can lose them by running away, however. If they lose whomever they're fighting, I believe they slowly work their way back to the ruins.
