At the end of the previous quest, Maesyn Trueshot mentioned a next incarnation of the bow.

You say, 'What is the next incarnation?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was once enchanted by the Koada'Dal enchanters. Once it was enchanted now it is no more. I am sure if you were ask the Koada'Dal [where the enchanted bows] are you will get an answer.'

Go to Felwithe. Kinool Goldsinger may be found in the Enchanter guild.

You say, 'Where can I get an Enchanted Bow?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Alas... Another ranger in search of the [Rain Caller]. She is no more.'

You say, 'What is the Rain Caller?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Rain Caller is the name we give each Trueshot longbow once it is enchanted. Unfortunately, I am unable to enchant them any longer. One of the components is no longer available. Someone would have to strike a [deal with the fairie folk]. Once I have that and the [remaining components] I can create the Rain Caller, a ranger's bow.'

You say, 'What deal with the fairie folk?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'The fairie princess, Joleena, used to have a metal gnome deliver [fairie gold dust] to the Keepers every month. She has stopped this and now refuses to offer it to any nation of Faydwer. What she is angry about, we do not know.'

You say, 'What fairie gold dust?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Fairie gold dust is an enchanted powder which only a fairie princess can create.'

You say, 'What remaining components?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'The remaining components are the Trueshot longbow and a treant heart. There will also be the guild donation in the amount of 3000 gold coins. These and the [fairie gold dust] will merit a ranger the Rain Caller enchanted bow.'

Princess Joleena may be found in the Lesser Faydark.

You say, 'Hail, Princess Joleena'

Princess Joleena says 'I am the Fairie Princess, Joleena. You may stay amongst my people, but do not nibble from our homes.'

You say, 'I want fairie gold dust.'

Princess Joleena says 'You wish the magical Fairie Gold Dust? Hmmph!! I refuse to offer it to any of the giants of Faydwer. How can I trust any of you. You have crept up upon my me and snatched one of my wings from my back. There will be no Fairie Gold Dust until my wing has been returned to me. You may not be the stalker [who snatched my wing], but all you giants are similar. Prove me wrong and return my wing.'

You say, 'Who snatched your wing?'

Princess Joleena says 'I did not see the swift giant, I was blinded by the sun glaring off his balding head. I do remember the smell of rust and refuse. How he got past my Clockwork Guardian, Gearheart, is a mystery to us all.'

The bald "giant" she's talking about is Sanfyrd Featherhead in Ak'Anon.

You say, 'Hail, Sanfyrd Featherhead'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Greetings. I am the operator of this Scrapyard. If you have any Scrap Metal I would be glad to purchase it from you in loads of four. The Gemchoppers no longer allow me to accept Blackbox Fragments and Micro Servos.'

You say, 'Do you know where Princess Joleena's wing is?'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'No!! You cannot have my magic Fairie Wing!! I need it. I read somewhere within the great library that the magic wing from a fairie princess will restore my full head of hair. Look at me!! I am bald!! I have no [friends] at all.'

You say, 'I am your friend.'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Oh. You are just saying that so you can get my fairie wing. I will make you a deal. I cannot rely on this wing forever. I will trade it with you if you could get me a case of hair tonic. If you are a true friend you [will fetch the hair tonic] for me.'

You say, 'I will fetch the hair tonic.'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Great!! Here you go, my friend. Take this crate and within you shall fill each slot with hair tonic. When all are combined within the crate, return it to me for your wing. I am not sure what the tonic was or where I got it. There is some writing on the crate, but I could not identify it.'

You receive a Crate for Tonics, a 10-slot SMALL container. You must now go to Freeport. Ping Fuzzlecutter is a gnome merchant located outside the west gate. Buy 10 of Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 from him, enough to fill the crate, then hit combine to craft A Crate of Tonic.

Upon Hand In of the crate to Sanfyrd:
Sanfyrd Featherhead says, 'Huzzah! You are my friend. Now you can take my old toupee and get it repaired. Just go to Freeport and ask Ping to [repair the toupee]. Hey! You know what? He is the guy who sells the hair tonic! I remember now. Well... Get my toupee repaired and I will give you the fairie wing.'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Huzzah!! You are my friend. Now you can take my old toupee and get it repaired. Just go to Freeport and ask Ping to [repair the toupee]. Hey!! You know what? He is the guy who sells the hair tonic!! I remember now. Well,.. Get my toupee repaired and I will give you the fairie wing.'

You receive a Tattered Toupee, which identifies as "Sanfyrd's Used Toupee." Head back to West Freeport and Ping Fuzzlecutter.

You say, 'Can you repair the toupee?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'Ah!! You have a toupee to repair. It must be the [Mane Attraction]. I gave one out and it seems to always fall to pieces. Seeing as it has a 100 season warranty and I only created it 5 seasons ago, I suppose I can do it. Do you want me to [make the Mane Attraction]?'

You say, 'What is the Mane Attraction?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'The Mane Attraction is a special toupee I created for a Gnome junker. He wasn't getting much attention at the taverns till I created the eye-catching toupee. He became one charismatic Gnome after that. Unfortunately, it seems to fall to pieces too easily and since it has a warranty, I have to fix it for him every time at no charge!! I will never make another.'

You say, 'I want you to make the Mane Attraction.'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'If you have the original tattered toupee then I can do it. Before you give it to me I will also need three other items. I require two clumps of hair from a Hulking Gorilla and a strand of hair from a [certain mermaid].'

You say, 'What certain mermaid?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'I encountered a particular mermaid with beautiful hair!! She had beautiful golden tresses. I used a lock of her hair to create the Mane Attraction. That was a while back when I was in Faydwer.'

A Hulking Gorilla may be found in the Feerrott. Clumps of Gorilla Hair also drop occasionally from A Gorilla, A Large Gorilla, and A Silverflank Guardian, also found in the Feerrott.

A Golden Haired Mermaid may be found in Kedge Keep. She drops A Lock of Hair.

Upon killing A Golden Haired Mermaid:

Hello, I finished the quest last night so I wanted to assure everyone that it still works. That was 24 Feb 2002. My faction with Princess Joleen is Dubious but I had sneak on and stood behind her. I did not hail her or ever try to speak to her. I just stood behind and gave her the wing and she gave me the Fairy Gold Dust. (By the way improved faction to apprehensive on turn in.) The Fairy Guard is the PH for her and does in fact spawn then despawn in 30 mins. 5 Mins later she will either respawn or the Princess will spawn in her place. You'll know it is the Place Holder for the Princess because she is standing by Gearheart and all the other guards are spelled Fairie Guard not Fairy Guard as she is. The hardest part of the quest is Kedge Keep and the Golden Haired Mermaid but not that hard. We did it with me (a 43 Ranger)and 52 Warrior, 41 Monk, a 42 Cleric and a 39 Enchanter. She dropped easily with that combo. I don't know if we got lucky or not but she spawned after first PH we took out. I don't know if having a less than desirable faction with Sanfyrd Featherhead effects his two portions of the quest (Hair Tonic and Mane Attraction). I was ally to most of those folks probably due to doing the Hero Bracer quest numorous times for money. Killing the Mino's probably helped heeps. I have seen other confusion on posts saying that the enchanter in Feltwithe (Kinool Goldsinger) tells you the Rain Caller is no more. He does say that but that is the story line for the quest. And with a porter available depending on the how long it takes to get the Princess in LFAY Fairy Village to Spawn and the Golden haired mermaide in Kedge could be done in just a few hours. IT is a nice bow only due to the +6 STR and the + 6 Dex but there are many bows better. With Luclin up and Shadewood bow staffs now available even player made bows are higher damage and faster delay. I just wanted to do it because I'm a Ranger. If it could be recharged after the 5 shots it would be a great deal for us but It can't be. It is basically a Trueshot that shoots further and has a couple of decent stats for a ranged weapon. Good luck I hope this helps any confusion.

Ok, my faction with the faeries is ok, but with ping its not so good. he is dubious, but won't sell to me. I can jst get a friend to buy the tonics for me, but when i have to hand him hair adn stuff, what will happen? Will it work if i sneak up behind him? I think that would work but would hate to blow the quest if i m not 100 percent sure, and feedback would be appreciated. 8D

I helped a guy because he was dying at the fairie camp and it bumped my faction down to Dubios. Are you still able to talk and get the stuff from Joleena with this faction, or is there any way to raise faction with fairies, or should I just give up this quest at this point?

Me so angry I may quit this game...did everything...made my trueshot, killed mermaid (killed 2 parties of friends while trying to read kedge map) got all of the parts...go to Felwithe, hail Kinool...he KOS me. I go back, camo, sneak up on him, hind, and give him everything...he takes them all, then KOS me. He did not give me the bow when he killed me, but he did take ma $$ (no biggie) ma trueshot, ma treant heart, and most of all, he took ma faerie gold dust. I thought that they put a patch out a few months back that would not allow you to give no-drop items to NPC that would not quest with you...so I petition...no answer...the guide logs off...I wait there for a gm or guide to log on for 2.5 hours...nothing. I go to eqlive.com and petition a GM via email....no response...log on again...petition another guide....he logs and doesnt respond. I went to work, came home, was able to get a guide...he talks to me, then goes to CSHOME...gets back to me 15 min later and appologizes and says that I am sol (somehing outta luck.) I dont have faction...fine..I will camp Kizdean Gix for a month and get the stinking "keepers of the art" faction up (very tough to get) if you will give me back my do-drop items that I should have. He says that he can't....why are they no-drop if they are being dropped I ask...I explain that I have a bad taste in my mouth about this game that may push me into quitting (the LD problems, the patches every other night, the lag, all the crap for the last 2 months) this game. He zones in and gives me a few no-rent GM beers and a few no-rent GM sanwhiches (gnome i think.) I get drunk and full, and log off to decide if I am going to cncl my account.

The moral of the story...Get your faction up in Keepers of the Art first..if KOS, you must kill dark elf necro's...if not kos, so the bat wing quest in magicians guild in Felwithe first. If the jerk Kinool does not talk to you...DO NOT GIVE HIM ANYTHING...the guides/gm will not help get any of it back, and this quest is way too long to do again.

There is a real easy way to get keepers of the art faction up! Goto west freeport into the casters guild hall. after you port over to hall go upstairs frist npc you come to sells batwings by the stack. Buy 8-10 stacks of wings and head back to felwithe. Goto to magi's guild in south felwithe and turn in bat wings, 4 stacks of 4, to niola impholder. 8 stack will give you 1 step incress in faction! :)

By now I'm sure you've made your decision but my opinion (and that's all it is) is that if you still enjoy playing the game you should continue doing so and if you don't you should quit. But you should not stop playing the game as a result of this incident alone or your perceived beefs with Verant.

Regarding this incident, having reach the level you have reached you have surely learned the importance of faction in completing many quests. Accordingly, giving the items to a KOS NPC was a gamble. I've taken that sort of gamble before (trying to make my Trueshot with fletching skill <100) and it stinks when you lose the bet but it has to be recognized as a gamble with a predictably uncertain outcome. (Oxymoron.)

With regard to the other problems you mentioned, I think one has to realize that the folks at Verant are not gods. LD problems are often (not always but very often) the result of connectivity problems on the player's end or routing problems somewhere in between your provider and Verant's servers. This is nothing they have any control over.

Patches are our friends. While patches may be inconvenient, they are undertaken with the intent of improving the game, fixing bugs, or correcting elements that unbalanced the game play.

Everquest is a massively complex game. Running servers of this size and complexity is an extremely challenging task and even the best engineers could not do so perfectly. There will always be some zones that are more laggy then others (also dependant on your hardware) and there will always be some bugs. I think it is impressive that Verant does as good a job as they do in maintaining the servers and keeping problems to a minimum.

Bottom line, they've created and maintain an incredibly fun, massively complex and challenging game that has kept all of us entertained for 100's of hours. You can't please all of the people all of the time and we should be thankful for what they've given us rather than holding a grudge on those occassions where something occurs that we don't like.

Rangers do in fact rule.

I have one grudge against Verant that I just can't let go. Why do us rangers (you know, the ones that love the great outdoors, hate the cramped cities) can't "find an affinity" for the outdoors, but CAN in cities???

For that matter.... dwarves get 50% direction sense.... whoo hoo... underground... which is actually kind of absurd. And rangers do not get direction sense. They live outdoors and are supposed to be outdoors. I never thought about binding, but I see your point very much so. And its not like they are so uber you have to worry they are over powered. I have a 21 ranger and honestly shes a lot of fun, but gets her *** kicked.

Princess Joleena
# Jan 21 2002 at 10:05 PM Rating: Default
This fact may not be for certain, but the Princess does have a 30 minute spawn time cycles. Every 30 minutes her ph despawns, and 5 mintues later either she or the ph will respawn. The Ph BTW is the "A Fairy Guard" the rest are spelled differently, indicating that guard is the ph. Well anyway, i asked "where is the princess?" Gearheart responded about she only appears during the day. So with this in mind i checked the time, 7am and the ph was gone, next hour (game time) she was there. So it is completely random basically, maybe you will get luck and get the 30 minute spawn which will result in a cycle in which the ph despawns during the day. Oh and i was the 50 ranger in the group mentioned below :P. It is worth it ranger 6str and 6dex on your range come on. Still have 16 lanterns hehe :P

If you need any help please give me a tell and I will be glad to help you.

Mermaid not that bad
# Jan 21 2002 at 7:17 PM Rating: Decent
We camped out the Mermaid in Kedge, a 48 nec, 50 druid, 50 ranger, 50 monk and killed her so easy it was a joke. Just cast dead man floating or endure breath, invis as you go into kedge, go down the shaft, south to a little room around the corner and up a shaft. Have druid charm piranha just inside room and put it on the mermaid when she spawns. She went down like a stack of bricks, we got the hair and ported out. Of course, she was there when we got there which made it incredibly easy. On the lanterns, it took like 11 small lanterns bought from the inn near docks in East Freeport, the one with the soulbinder. Worth the effort.
Hmmm.......
# Jan 03 2002 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
From what I've read the mermaid isnt to terrible difficult. Would it be possible for a 44 ranger, a 44 druid, a 51 pally, and a 40 chanter to take her down?
RE: Hmmm.......
# Jan 19 2002 at 4:08 AM Rating: Default
Yes it would...the key is knowing where to go in kedge (actually very close to entrance) making sure everyone has endure breath..and noone goes anywhere except to her room (u go to Estrella of gloomwater's pad, and God couldn't save the 4 of you. Today had a 40 druid as healer, a 48 monk, myself (43 rngr) and the use of a 51 warrior (but the warrior did not camp with us...he only helped to clear the spawn sight/entrance room.) Try out the entrance room first...it is as tough as the mirmaids room...and u will learn how to fight in kedge close to zone line.

The bad news is we had t full groups of 40-50 to take the whole place..but a 35 ICK-sar (yea i spelled it that way on purpose) monk decided to "lead the way" without a map...next thing I know, Estrella summond me, blinded me and killed me (and 85% of our party before the other 15% could evac.) Don't let someone under 40 come in and give the whole area mega aggro...they think they are helping....they are helping u not have to look for spawns..the spawns will look for you!
Trouble with Jyle Wyndshot and the Treant Heart

I can't get this gut to really engage me in conversation. I have given him about ten lanterns and have gotten nothing in return, cept fer him saying "Thanks for the free merchandise" He did respond to me saying Treant wood, but told me I have to give him a Faydark Champions tunic and 2 gold pieces. Of course I dont want treant wood! What do I do?
RE: Trouble with Jyle Wyndshot and the Treant Heart
# Apr 16 2002 at 11:41 AM Rating: Decent
I have noticed that if faction is not correct, the real Jyle will not give the wood or the heart. I have helped several young rangers get their trueshot, and at least 2 have had this very problem. I suggest raising Champions of Faydark faction by killing orcs in Gfay if this is a problem.

There are two Jyle's. The one you are talking to is an imposter of sorts. There is another Jyle in, I believe, West Freeport. He is upstairs in Hogcaller's Inn. This is the one you need to give your lanterns to. :) Good luck.

Would a 53 Ranger and a 56 Bard be able to break in Kedge Keep and kill the mermaid? If we snare/fear it shouldn't be a problem right? We were in CS yesterday doing that, we killed them, and they were blue to 53 and light blue to 56.

After many levels of drooling after this, I finally got my bow. I would say the hardest part of the whole thing is fletching the Trueshot. My fletching is up to 168 and I still have not fletched one successfully, but happily, a guild sister had fletched one for me many seasons ago.

Here's the parts and here's how tough/not tough they are:

1) Trueshot. I have discussed this elsewhere on Allakhazam so I will not expand on it here; go to that page to look it up.

2) 3000gp, aka 300pp. Not a huge amount but remember you need GOLD not platinum.

3) Treant heart. See the Trueshot quest on how to get this too. Easy to get while you're running back and forth to Freeport.

4) Faerie dust, the other hard part because nobody likes to go to Kedge all that much (although I don't know why, I find it kind of fun to be in an underwater zone).

Start in Freeport and buy 10 of the Formula 5000 drinks and go straight to Ak'Anon. You can do this at ANY level so do this whenever you want. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN EMPTY SLOT at this point because you will get a container.

Way in the back of Ak'Anon - and I mean WAY in the back, by the necro guild - you'll find Sanfyrd Featherhead. Hail the lil guy, and say "Where is princess joleena's wing". He will tell you that you can't have it because he read that it will make his hair grow back. He also mentions that he has no [friends].

As stated above, patronize him by saying "I am your friend" at which point he excalims that you are "just saying that to get my feather, if you are really my friend you would help me get some hair tonic." He then tells you to get some tonic off Ping - slap those 10 tonics in there (remember, don't stack!), hit combine and hand him back the box. He gives you a wig and tells you to have it repaired.

The two next parts you need are the two clumps of hair off hulking gorillas in Cazic Thule. They spawn in the throne room, you can work them easily in a group in your low 30's or even sometimes in your high 20's. This is pretty easy to get, and the clumps seem to be a fairly common drop.

Lastly you need the hair off the golden haired mermaid. We did this with a pally, 2 rangers, a druid, a wizard and I think a cleric. All people will need to be 35+ although closer to 40 is advisable. Remember do NOT use AOE damage spells in Kedge because these cute little fish swim around but then they blow up for like 400aoe. Not nice. We cleared the entry room, and then invis'ed and swam directly to the mermaid's room. There is a hallway there that you can safely med and rebuff yourself at. She has I believe a pirahna in the room with her, maybe two. We pulled her, and while she did some smacking around, let me say, she went down FAST. She drops the hair every time as far as I know but her spawn seems random. Not sure if there is a trigger for her. After getting the hair we ported out, no point hanging around Kedge! (Personally I find Kedge fun but it IS a challenge and you really should not attempt the zone until you're into your 30's).

Now, go back to Ping in WFP and say "can you repair a toupee". He'll tell you he needs all the ingredients you just gathered, so give him the toupee you got from the guy in Ak'Anon, the two gorilla hairs, and the golden mermaid hair. He will give you back the fixed toupee which, you guessed it, you troop back to Ak'Anon to give to Sanfyrd. He gives you the glimmering fairy wing.

Now head to the western end of Lesser Faydark. Track Gearheart, who never moves and is her bodyguard. He is in the heart of the faerie village which is close to the pixie tower. The Princess's placeholder is "a fairy guard." She is on a 35 minute cycle - she or her PH will spawn for 30 minutes, then despawn for five minutes. Then one or the other will spawn again. Don't sit there and stare at the mushrooms if she's not up! I chased down outcast brownies for the arrows for the Ivy Etched leggings quest for a while, and killed pixies out of boredom. The I just camped my ranger there, set a timer, and went off to play one of my alts while the timer ran. Happily for me the Princess spawned after about 3 or 4 cycles, but I have heard people camping the area for hours on end, so trust me and just do something more productive than staring at the mushrooms. Camp your ranger there and CHECK BACK if she's not spawned. Her cycle is exact, 35 min from the time she spawns.

When you hail her she basically says something about please don't sit on the mushrooms or something. I always feel like I'm in Smurfville. Anyway, give her her wing, and she'll thank you and give you the bag of faerie gold dust. YOU CANNOT KILL FAERIES TO GET THIS, you MUST quest this properly, or the quest will not work and you wasted a lot of time and effort. VERY important.

Now that you have all this stuff, go see Kinool Goldsinger in the Enchanter's guild in Felwithe. (that's the 2nd Felwithe zone; when you go up the bridge and find the transports, the one on the right takes you to the chanter guild). He is the guild leader standing in the middle of the entry room on the diaz. Hail him and ask "Where can I get an Enchanted Trueshot Bow?"

He'll tell you a story about the Bow and how they used to be able to make them but they can't anymore because they can't get - tada - the ellusive fairy dust from Joleena. Aren't you lucky that you happen to have some? :) Give him your Trueshot, the treant heart, the dust, and your 3000gp, and ta-da, you are now the proud owner of the Raincaller.

It took me a good 12-15 levels to do this quest, mostly because it was difficult for me to find people willing to go to Kedge with me to get the mermaid hair. I'd like to thank my guild sisters for helping me out on that. :) If you can get people (38+, over 40 recommended due to some of the opening room mobs) to go to Kedge with you when the mermaid is up, and a druid to port you around, you could do this whole quest within a couple hours.

Err, fairy dust is a common drop off of fairies. The quest calls for "a bag of fairy gold dust". 'Less of course ya managed a lvl 40 group camp solo at 14.

The mermaid is not that tough and you do NOT need two groups of 40+ people to get it. Last night myself (45 ranger) went in with a 45 cleric and a 45 pally and we took her down easily. The piranha in the room with her was tougher than her. Just make sure the cleric and/or pally continually stuns her to keep her from casting. She will drop like a rock.

Treant Heart

It's not every fourth lantern turned in to Jyle. I turned in 21 lanterns and got the treant heart with the 21st.

totally true on the random. I got the treant heart on the first try also, but unfortunately I didn't bother to look and tried to combine it for my first attempt at the trueshot. I did not have more than one try as I was a newb at the time and had not learned my lessons yet heheh. And this was before the combining containers were fixed so that you didn't lose the items if they did not combine to make anything. And all that after bieng killed by the pirates on Sister Isle while waiting for the boat... what a day...

# Oct 13 2001 at 3:07 PM Rating: Decent
Yes you can multi-quest the mermaid hair. the ranger gets the gorilla clumps and toupee. then have the person with the hair hand it in. then the ranger turns in his 3 items and voila.
how do you get her talking ?!
