Does he always drop the head or do you have to talk to Finewine and Caelin first? Stupid question, but i'm wondering.

i've read some post of lvl 55+ being killed by him or some other telling that he's highly magic resistant. just ask a bard to kill him... i killed him easy being a 48 bard grouped with a 48 ranger. just sent the bard inside for the pull, he just have to lull with his lute all the mob he see, pull barduck(he s really slow, but better ask for a sow or jboots if something go wrong...). invis on the way back, but check barduck s following you... if you get some had (we add some) wait till barduck come out of the cave, mez him and run with all your adds to the tp to surefall... during this time, have someone to tag darkpaw and to move it out of the way for the small train(generaly 2 or 3 gnoll) s coming back. zone back him, and kite darkpaw te normal way.... and for the people saying he s highly resistant, most (seems like 9/10) of my chant landed on him... it just take long... you might want to ask your ranger to snare him trough... he s slow, but with a mob who can deal you 500 dam in just a sec, better take care... so now i have my badge of nobility....
ps: war's going to be hard without much more people... lol i manged to kill 7 gnoll and i was kiting almost all other gnoll, but since they all depoped and all npc in town were cleaned i don't think we ve won the war.. lol

Drops of today :
- Head of Barducks Darkpaw (no drop)
- Sabertooth Forged Ringmail, AC 24, WT 4.5, Races : all, Classes : all plate and chain wearers. LORE item, not magic, not no drop.
(crap).

Apparently, Sabertooth Forged armor is random drop on gnolls out there (just got a Sabertooth Forged Bracer), and BP dropped byt the chief. Quite logical after all but this is crap anyway ;)

Killed him tonight with 52 beast (me), 53 beast, 57 mage. The 53 beast is epic equipped, but did not have a chance to proc - was doubling him for 229 and we had no healer. We kiting him right there in hiw room. One thing that helped was clearing the cave first so there were no adds. All three of us used 2 pets. Even on /pet taunt off, they would eventually get his attention and die very quickly. Keep in mind we had no snare. Fight lasted a good 5 min. Dropped the head, a fossil (ac5, FR+15 prim/sec/rng), and gnoll parts.

It was blue to all of us, so under 52 as posted here. Didnt know it started an invasion, hehe.

Ok...for all of you out there that hate bards for some unknown fricken reason...please look away. This is not for you. As for those that are a bard or have one in party when attempting this guy please read carefully. Now while this is an effective way of taking this mob down it is not perfect. and I do not claim for it to be. So dont bash me. And even if you do I will never be back to read it, so :P...

In order to take this guy down the best thing to do is, ofcourse, Take him for a walk. You see he hurt is leg playing football in high school and when he walks too long...wait thats not it. Oh yeah...it's because he has a bunch of friends with big feet that will stick them up your ***, regardless the fit!

Your best bet is to go to www.eqatlas.com and download the jaggedpine map. The Gnoll caves are detailed on this map. So navigating the caves is a snap.

Notice on the map that there is a big loop back in the cave system. A complete circle. This is needed. Because when you pull this big fat **** (Yes..he is HUGE at least twice the size of a normal gnoll) you will have to run the track of this circle at least once to make sure he stays on you. He runs a little slower than normal gnolls at times. Maybe due to his size, hence the "big fat ****" comment.

Let me start from the beginning tho. Before entering the cave have Selos, Purifying Rythms (Or chorus depending on your lvl) Invis , Charm, then your 4 top chants. Its also good to have SS boots too.

Before heading in hit ya boots for levi. Then Selos up. Then invis and head in. Run straigh to him. Don't ***** foot around and get the casters (They see invis) on you. There are necros, shammies, and clerics. So blaze past everything and run right to him.

If there is nothing but warriors around him simply kite this big boy til he is about 2 or 3 ticks down. Then play your rythms and begin the dangerous trek out. This is an adrenaline rush. It's killer hehe.

You have to constantly keep in range of this guy or he will turn around and head back to his little hump. This is where the loop back comes in handy. Pull Barducks out of his immediate area. Follow the western wall (The one his back is too). Keep that wall to your right. And take the tunnel there. Make sure he is still with you. By now you should have about 7 - 10 adds. Make sure you are playing the resist song because once you see the casters they will DoT the hell outta you...While a 200 resist is good enough to block a few DoTs you wont make it out without having at least one connect with you. Which does a considerable amount before you make it out. That on top of a warrior smashing you every time you have to double back to make sure he is still following you makes things a bit risky. So BE CAREFUL.

Like I was saying take that first tunnel. then take a right. Then a left. Now at the next junction you go straight. But you want to go left...and enter that loop back. And come up behind Ol' Fatty. This way you clear a few of the mobs ahead of him out and get a chance to gather your wits. Now once back at the junction go straight this time and pull him on outside. Hopefully at least 5 or so gnolls are still with you. This is a GOOD thing! Why? Charm bait. ********** charm bait...wait....Nvd.

Now once you are outside (If a soloing bard) Just charm a gnoll and have him attack Bardcuks. Sometimes it will get aggroo from other gnolls. This sucks cause it wastes a charm. But oh well. You will have plenty to play with. The good news is none of them will be casters. Because they all got left behind. You were moving along while they were casting. Leaving them outta range wondering "Where the hell did he go?" Now once you have a little distance drop the resist song and mem that 1st chant.

Some bards wont use all 5. I do. The 1st chant is usually wearing off just as I am hitting it to play it agian. No biggie.

This mother has 20k hp and sometimes doubles and occasionally apparently quaded on me for 100's topping around 200. Maybe a hair over 200. But seeing as how with Selos drum at lvl 55 I do somewhere around 700 to 800 hp of damage every 30 seconds with dots and the fact that I have a pet bashing him brings him down pretty fast. About 5 min.

Now once he drops quickly loot him and finish off whatever adds you will have left.

If in group with a dru its even easier. Have the dru root/snare all adds but one. Snare Barducks and let that pet make quick work of him while you both DoT the hell outta this ****. Why not root him? For one he breaks root lot more. He seems to be around 50th lvl. Plus he beats the hell outta yer pet when rooted. More efficient to keep him slowly moving rather than to let him kill 10 or so gnolls in 5 min lol.

Now if you are ina group and wanting to melee this guy you just gotta...wait....you don't wanna do that! Stupid! lol Why would you when its gonna take a kiter to pull him outside anyways. So why not let the kiter kill him while you take down additional unwanted adds. Now dont get me wrong. A good melee group with a chanter and CHealer can take him down. Slowing this guy is a must cause he hits ALOT. And mezzin those adds around him is very necessary. Killing them isnt. Because there is a sick respawn time on these gnolls. Something like 5 min. And that sucks clearing everything around him. Meddin up and getting ready to kill him when they all respawn. Or worse WHILE you are killing him hehe.

So stick to Kiting!

Thats about the most ya need to know. Especially if you are a bard. I am sure a dru has there own way about it.

Now for those of you saying why would a bard need this item. Number one the badge is quite nice. I use it. Number 2 I have plenty of guildmates and friends that I have helped do the quest. So I have had to drop this guy a couple of times. And number 3...the gnoll war afterwards!

Its a killer event but I aint gonne ramble on anymore about something not related to the direct killing of Barducks.

Good pulling information on this guy. I would like to post another tried and true method to pulling him out. This is my line-up but doesn't have to be yours.
Suggested Method 1: Have Chant of Frost,Flame,Posion,Disease up as your main. Selos, 39 charm, Heal, Invis.
(you can substitute 39 Charm for lvl 8 lull if you wish)
Suggested Method 2(no PoP songs): Have Chant of Frost,Flame,Curtailing, up as your main kiting songs. Selos, 39 charm, Heal, Invis and Lull.

This method works at level 54 and you won't get adds except for the rare see-invis caster thats along the way.

Selo's and Levi boots up before heading into cave. Invis song and bolt in straight past both rooms and quickly bolt into the corridor to your right while heading into the third room. Now head into the corridor to your left and your in Ducks lair. Head down the center if no see invis mobs are in the way and stay along the RIGHT wall as you make your way to the bottom ditch.

Alt Method if you wish to lull the casters. Do the same as above but if you come to any casters along the way.. stop.. target, back up and stay in a tunnel. Lull has a large distance and will go through walls AND lasts about 4 minutes (plenty of time to agro duck and come back out with him and not having to relull).
rinse and repeat for any casters along the route.

Pulling Duck:
Re-levitate, selos and invis back up at the ditch next to duck. Duck see's invis so you don't have to drop invis to pull him. Just edge your way closer until he charges.. back up and hug the SAME path you took into his lair. If you lulled any mobs along the way.. they will still be lulled.. just try to say near them as little time as possible and you "will" be (not should be) ok.
Try to stay within a tunnels length away from him at all times and every time you'll pull just him. Any closer to him and you will possible gather adds if your lower level.

Duck does NOT summon, Duck does NOT cast, Duck is NOT very resistant to chants (but frost seems to be resisted the most).
What Duck DOES have is a Shizznat load of HP (20K-21K), Duck that has "Sabertooth" will be holding it in hand, Duck DOES hits VERY hard... doubling for 198 to low 210's

I have killed Barducks approximately 18 times using this method and only once did I ever get a caster add.
Good luck to you all and kill That Duck! (AFLAC!)
Pulling him outside ...
# Dec 16 2002 at 7:11 PM Rating: Decent
One strat was to make sure no see-invis mobs were on the way to him, root, snare, invis and pull him out in front of cave. That's how I did him for my badge of nobility.
It appears that the creators disagree with the concept of nec/druid/shaman soloing him right outside the caves. Tried today for a guildie of mine, and couldn't make him follow. As soon as I went ahead too fast he turned back to his point. One time he warped onto me and I had to FD. 2nd time he got lost somewhere, did not return to his spawn and finally despawned (gnoll war script started at that point).

So if you want to kill him, better kill him in his cave.

Completed the War
# Dec 09 2002 at 3:14 AM Rating: Excellent
Got my Qeynos Badge of Nobility today and with my guild completed the war. The town took some decent casualties, but some people survived and got quest text to show it. Upon completion of the 3rd wave of attacks:

Sergeant Calin shouts 'It appears the gnolls have been routed but at what a cost? Many of the innocents I have sword to protect have perished this day. Karana forvie my dreadful failure. If you can show me that you assisted in defense of the fort, you shall be compensated.'

At this point if anyone turns in the Lore, No Rent items they got from the random gnolls that dropped them during the quest, they will receive some experience and some 1 charge expendable Lore items with some random spell effects. One of the items was 1 charge Spirit of Cheetah, one was Levitate, and a couple others that I don't remember off hand. Looked pretty lame for running around protecting the fort, but I'm keepting them around. Possibly for another Qeynos Badge? Not real sure.

A different sergeant Caelin spawns for the war and for the turnins afterwards. I tried turning the potions back into him, but he wouldn't take them. Maybe I'll try handing them in to the regular quest version of him, or maybe handing him my 5th badge, or maybe talking to that guy back in qeynos. Not sure, we shall see

Anyone completed invasion??
# Oct 28 2002 at 3:44 AM Rating: Decent
Has anyone completed the Invasion quest? A full group of my guild attempted to however I died trying to join them to get the Barducks and then had to drag my corpse out. We then sccoured but by that time the whole town was invaded. Two items did drop however: "A gnoll warrior crest, Lore, NO-RENT" and "Stolen seeds, Lore, NO-RENT" After the invasion failed we waited until everyone repopped but we couldn't turn in either item. If your guild or group has successfully saved the town, please post any information on the rewards here. Thank you!

Solo'd
# Oct 15 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
I solo'd this guy. On first attempt I tried root first but didn't work and almost got killed. Jammed out of the hole and camped.

Went back in invissed, making sure casters who can see through invis weren't in the path. Killed them if they were. Found a spot near Barducks which would not aggro the others and casted snare. Worked. Then I casted root and and after having moved slightly out of his reach, I invissed myself and waited for him to chase me. While invissed I led him slowly out the cave and kited him outside. I used root, dot and med. Repeat as necessary. Don't forget to snare him one more time cause snare will end before he's dead.

I used Druid epic, ES arms (drones of doom, free dot) and Winged Death until I was down to half my mana. Then I switched to Breath of Ro instead of Winged Death because mana was going down fast. Be patient. He has a lot of of hps. He also doesn't summon. Toward the end he may try to gate back in and so make sure he's not rooted at that point when he's down to 10% hps.

He dropped head for Badge of Honor quest and sabertooth sword.

Soloed him as a 57 druid no epic easy as hel~
snare root dot, before U pull him make sure all mobs around him are warriors, so he dont get no heals, you can kill him right in his room without clearing anything. I tried pulling him twice, and I think verant nerfed that because he would dissapear back to his spawn point as soon as i got close to the entrance
Info

Spawn Time: He is on an exact 24hr spawn timer, took him out two nights in a row exactly 24hrs after each other.

HP: he has 22 to 24 khp, Hits for max 252, can be slowed/feared/snared

Group Needed, a well ballance group of 54-55 can take him slowed with a cleric on heals.

Take him all the time with 57 rgr and 57 ench, fear kited.

Easiest to kill by pulling him out from the caves to the north side of the zone gem, around pos 1900 pos 1900, then fear kite him there.

Drops...
Range slot item 5ac some saves.
24 AC blue chain BP (nice color but crap)
16/29 Sabertooth
Barducks Head for qeynos badge quest
Other crap like jade ring and stuff.

Quests...
He triggers a city invasion quest, you keep the seargent in front of the bank alive through it all and turn in the items that drop from the gnolls during the invasion. Some interesting drops, right click fungal regrowth item (1 charge) and few others. Didnt get a chance to complete the quest again, will try again another night.

The invasion quest was done with one group of 54-57's. Cleric, Chanter, Druid, Rgr, Rgr, Pally

Hope this helps you all.

Took him out tonight, 53 Bard and 55 ranger...Ranger saved mana for roots and snare, bard just sang dot's, took about 10 min all up, just invised at entrance and ran in, need to watch out for catsers that see invis though. No others aggroed and he was fought in the very back of the cave. Dropped 10pp and change, a fossil with some resist stats, and his head

We took him down tonite hits hard has tons of hp
but snare slow root stunn all debuffs stick he was 52nd level Warr type. Dropped a saber magic 29/16 magic lore 1hs and his head
Hits 200 plus Quads occasionally ended up kiting him around with nukes while the mage pet and pally tangled with him occasionally swappping aggro
Killed him in the back of a large cave didn have much roomm for kiting because of the fast respawns left, straight, right, left, (at the junctions) to reach the cave he is in. Wasn't too hard to clear in and to single pull the extras till we could take him. We vacced afterwards and tried tto get the druid to the turrn in befoppre the gnolls wiped the vilalge since the Gnols war was triggerred now. Apparently the Sergeant won't finish the quest once the gnolls are triggered untill you kill them or the village respawns i suspect. Was killed by grp of 5 (51) wizzie chanter pally (52) druid mage Heisenberg,Sondilla,Torad,Kelvena and Fazyen of Morell Thule
ADDEd Have takne him down several times now for various guildies and mates he resisted root alot unless you got some serious healing power Avoid tanking have watched several tankish types i know /grin Drop like flies tryn to tank him however was able to take him with a 52 wizzie (me ) 53 druid and a 46 chanter who kept the adds and pops claered by charming them addn throwing them at him when he was rooted. actually managed to clear the first wave of the war at the vilage afterwards and get an assasin pop tho the extra wave had us running he seems to spawn on a 24hr cycle tho i cannot verify this for definite cause i havent the patience.

From all the time I've spent in the caves so far, I've encountered Darbucks 3 times. I've spent 5 hours in the caves and never saw him once, then walked into the caves and saw him after clearing the big cave within the first 10 minutes. I've always seen him down in the big open cave in the northern most part and always in the center spawn. Could just be coincidence though.

Single pulling in the caves the other knight. Group of 48-54 War, Rang, Chanter, Druid, Cleric. Was heading out of the cave for a med break and to go sell some junk and as soon as we stepped out, whap, Barducks is outside the cave. He immediately aggros me (54 war) and, as fate would have it, chanter is 00 mana, cleric is 20%. Barducks QUADED me for 220 each hit. Knocked him down below half before he finally killed me. If we'd been FM we'd have taken him. He also got the chanter before anyone knew what happened, but then Dr00d finally got the succor on. After rezzes we went back, but never found him again for revenge. We'll have it one day though!

We killed him last night with a Shaman, Ranger, Bard, and Rogue (Level 51-58). He hits really hard and it would have been much easier with a Cleric along as well. We were forced to kite him around (snared) while the other two hit him from behind and the Shaman frantically tried to keep everyone alive with Chloroblast. We had a charmed Darkpaw Warrior to help out as well, hehe. He dropped the item for the Qeynos Badge quest and an AC 24 chain chestpiece. No weapon.

He was *really* very easy to get to and we had no problem single pulling everything around him so we could take him on alone.

Just a follow-up for anyone who's interested. I managed to solo him this afternoon with my Level 58 Shaman, though it took over 30 minutes. I just pulled him outside and pet kited him while dropping DoTs. Good thing he doesn't summon or cast. Sheesh does he have a lot of hit points. Certainly not worth it for the experience but I just wanted to do it as a challenge.

Dropped his head (quest item) and an AC 5, Sv Fire +15 range item.

He drops the head for the fourth Qeynos Badge quest and a sword called Sabretooth a 16/29 1hs war, pal, sk, rng, rog useable magic lore with 8 dmg bonus. Took him down on the tribunal with a 51 pally, 52 ranger, 53 cleric and a 60 druid. Killed us the first time but after fear kiting for 20 minutes he went down the second time. Thanks to Kaldarie, Cassani, and Mallari. He also spawns an event where waves of gnolls attack the town and gnoll assasins drop no rent class specific items. Not sure what they are for though, person who you are supposed to turn him into died *DOH*! But was a great time, thanks again all and thanks for the sword.
