So, interesting to note - the adds in the fight, even if you kill them, will respawn, regardless of whether you have anyone die or not.
So, there's no real way to avoid adds even if you can survive the "death touch". So it's better to just not bother killing them in the first place.

85 CLR + Melee Merc fought him for a while. His HPs went down steadily. Merc did a good job keeping the adds entertained. CLR mana was barely moving. When his HPs were at 0% he DT'd the Merc and respawned with full HP. That is when I Gate'd out.

So, this mob is basically worthless now. Except for the Shadowed Storm Sphere clicky. People still hunt this for the shears though, which is what I did. However, you get the same bump in tailoring with a maxed tailoring trophy, so the usefulness of the shears in today's game is greatly reduced. Having said that, I still sat there in Akheva Ruins for 3 months.
I did not keep track of the drops I was not interested in. During these 3 months (Starting in October and lasting till Febuary) I managed to get a total of 2 Frizznik's Robe of Tinkering (For tinkers) and 4 Akhevan Shadow Shears. That is 31 kills at 3 drops per kill. To put it in perspective: That is a 4.3% drop rate for the Shears and a dismal 2.15% chance for the Tinkerer's Robe. Talk about really bad drop rates. On two back to back kills I had shears drop (1 each). I never saw a duplicate shear drop or a duplicate robe drop. Everything else on the spawn table I had multiples of at one point or another. Hypothetically multiple drops of shears and robe are possible, but drop percentages wereprobably too low for me to see that with only 31 kills.
Respawn details: Shei does not spawn on server up. But, this was announced in a patch message 7 years ago. Earliest respawn I saw (in 31 kills) was 3 days 4 hours and 30 minutes. Longest was 3 days 14 hours. I did have an instance of 3 days and 17 hours, but I think that was a patch day.
Here are my times (On the left is date of kill with time, on right is time since last kill). I don't claim the respawn times to be wholly accurate. It is included so I had an approximate idea when it would spawn, generally, it was around 3 days 9 hours since last kill. But it was not uncommon to be much later than that time either.

Friend wanted shears, so I added this mob to my cycle of old world farm mobs. looked like it was standard 3 days + some hours. today it was scheduled to spawn so I checked, checked again and again and again and again - every 1 -2 hours. then it got to be 3 days 13 hours 25 minutes so I gave up. and went raiding. after raids I said why not? and it was up. so it can be a long spawn
Edit: killed shei on 1/13 at 4 am on povar. servers went down on 1/14. I checked for shei over the next 28 hours and ever saw it. came back today and waited and shei popped at 10:15 am. that's 3 days 6 hours 15 minutes after last kill. its 1 day 16 hours 40 minutes after server came up ( /uptime) so shei does not follow server outages as far as spawn timer goes.

We wiped on him last night while he was at 4% and he despawned. 24 hours later he's still down.

Seems SOE beefed up this event a little bit:
Shei Vinetras now PROCS (not cast) Chromatic Disruption, a point-blank AE that lowers resists and does 50 damage/tick.
Also, Shei will now continually respawn 4 adds to attack the raid for the duration of the fight. If you kill them they just respawn.
Thats about it...

He recasts the 20k nuke ever 2 minutes. Hope your solo plan accounts for that lol.

i just soloed this mob tonight but like corpse poped on me as it died...dunno wtf happened><
There are 2 versions of Shei. One is a vendor who auto poofs on kill and that is what you probably killed.
For those who have tried this, with pally stuns or similar, how do you think a mage group would fair on this encounter?
I have been on some in WOS and its easy killing with no need to heal at all. If we have 6 air pets constantly stunning, think we could take it?
This will probably be the only way I can do this, unless I try open raiding it (seeing as my guild doesn't raid often).
Any help would be appreciated. With the new Tinkering trivials 400+, the extra 5% over and above the Geerlok would make all the difference!

Very, very late reply, but if what I am told about mobs using death touch is accurate, they will not DT your pet. They'll ignore your pet and blast you instead. Five mages and a very, very busy cleric might work.
These days, since it seems that this is one of a very few DT effects of yesteryear that has not been upgraded to a 100k or 200k blast, it's easy to cap out your HP high enough that you can mostly shrug off the effect, and with a merc healer you'll be back to full well before the next DT.

killed with 12 last night (anguish geared). still way too many adds i think to try this with 6 people. afaik, he was not stunnable for us and the fight ended with roughly 30+ adds. dropped sphere, sword, and mask. before we killed him got at least 6 rounds of DT so 12mins fight. also not all of these adds/mobs are mezzable and nothing was charmable. g'luck. wtb shears/robe

Nah she'll burn thru you DA no problem. Can't use DA to survive touch of vinitras.

FYI... DA does block Touch of the Venitras. You're thinking of Cazic Touch which will burn through DA. Also, if you have a very good tank with DI and kept at good health near the time of the TotV then there's a possibility of him surviving it. Good possibility too. But he needs to have around 17k-18k hp and spell shielding.
