Im a level 40 druid took 1 of these out but took all my mana and about 10min. XP not that good, neither was loot. The 1 thing weired was that mine ported to its spawn spot, not sure if this was a bug but Iwas really pissed when after 8 min it dissapeared on me. Fortunately I foud his almost dead, snared body back where I got him from and was able to finnish him off.
The iceclad bridge elites are an easy kill for a 42 necro. I pull with dark, send pet and fear, put on scourge and VoS, usually tap once and renew fear once, for a total mana cost of 839 on the kill. That's if there are no resists. I get one resist about as often as not, two over the course of a fight fairly often, and fear often has to be renewed an extra time, for a total cost around 1100 mana.
I have also noted this popping back to the spawn point. I was rooting and rotting them, and when they were at sufficiently low HPs (to where they would turn and run but couldn't) they would pop back to the bridge. I had one below this point and he didn't return to the spawn point until the root I had on it wore off. Its VERY annoying.
I've noticed though that sometimes at least, if you are close to them when they start running, they won't warp. It seems they mostly warp if you don't realize you've started them running, and you move out of a certain range from them.
Just to be on the safe side, I kite them in circles and try to arrange to be heading back to the bridge when they're at about 25% hp.
Decent xp, easy for 39 or above PATIENT druid to solo...also drops ring of frost occasionally , +3 int + 10 mana ring, as well as frozen mantle on occasion. But melee, beware..these guys hit hard. Partnered with a level 50 pally and it took more mana to heal him than it would have to solo the elite.
You can still kite with a melee partner. Just have your pally friend run after the giant whacking it from behind NOT taunting, and using a slow 2h weapon (for reduced taunt factor), while you keep aggro on yourself by dotting and blowing up the giant and running away. Kinda like pet kiting.
ROFL... I feel the same way about meat shields! ...Just kidding. The ones that don't think they should loot every kill are alright.
I like helping a druid kite; Turn off pet taunt. Druid pulls, snares, and nukes to get a good agro on. I debuff, sick pet, DOT and nuke, while druid kites in a large circle around me, while my pet wacks the things in the back of the head... single reds very easy for Druid/Nec combo outside.
We're 30 and 32nd and doing this in EW, but we have not had the guts to try a giant yet. I think it would be close, but we would run OOM before done.
So far these guys have all been blue to me. From what I understand they are a true under-con. However, I am able to take both of them out solo as a Level 40 enchanter via Charm. So I am sure with a little bit of work you other classes should NOT need a full group of 30-42's to kill these MOB's. A little bit of planning and strategy and just about any class should be able to solo them. PS: they make great pets especially when hasted as I can kill 4 Frost Giant Scouts plus a Dire wolf or two with just one of these guys before I am oom and my pet is near dead. -GL to all
=P not any class, all you all warriors out there will get smacked by these boys- 42 pally friend (now 51) had to LoH and still zone Casters though, have fun (in fact my friend found he could if he medded before the fight for a root/heal, although it took him almost 8 minutes to finally kill the dang thing) I'm a 40 mage and I can solo one easy... downtime is a pain, I loose a pet per fight and usually have to whack it to death with my torch (I've had my best sucess w/ fire pets) but resistances are really low. 3/4 a blue bub per kill at 39, 7gp-6pp loot, haven't gotten any other loot yet, but it's still a nice exchange for 52cp of malachite. Mages use lev rings and bolts. Fire and earth work best, although root can be very counter-productive in some fights. 4-5 333damage bolts+ pet, so I'd guess around 2k hp's at least
Note: this is for the IceClad giants only, do not try to solo the GD giants at level 40
Two Frost Giant Elites guard the bridge (zone) that leads to the Eastern Wastes. They are far enough apart that they could be pulled singly without the need for harmony etc. Spawn time was roughly 13 minutes. They were green and blue to a level 44, but all gave exp (guessing lvl 32-34). I was pulling to the sides of the bridge and was not aggroed by any wandering mobs so it seems like a relatively safe place to fight. Dropped up to 5p, velium weapons (rarely) and Frost Giant Scout Beard (Lore, magic, no drop).
Can't believe there are lvel 32s of this mob. They are all blue to me (51) and have incredible high hp (6k to 8k I think). Take quite a while with 2 ensnare cycles to finish one. If you only need xp by soloing, find Berserkers, don't bother the Elites.
These things are quite difficult to take down! A group of 4 (45 cleric, 44 paladin, 44 ranger, 40 druid) had a devil of a time with one (blue at 44) last night. It hit for 126 a pop. The cleric and druid went OOM, and the paladin had to use his LoH on the ranger. We finally prevailed though.
Yes, we decided to stick with scouts and berzerkers after that.
42 to 45 is probably more like it (some of them are yellow at 44). When we fought it last night, we figured it had at least 5K hit points, so the estimate of 6K to 8K is probably reasonable.
yeah well they con blue still at level 60 although some are green there are still some that are blue so their level range has got to be more then what is posted.
I have found that they do drop loot occasionally. Between the Velium weapons I just recently recieved a Frozen Mantle +10 mana. Not much for the level but any loot is better than none
