Ok so my Monk needs the sapphire for Epic. I read earlier that you can jump through the bars by pressing the space bar and forward arrow button. It worked... Did not need a key!!! I repeat I DID NOT use a key!
To get out I will use my Origin, go back and do a turn-in. Hope this helps:)

Camped this guy for the red monk sash at lvl 30. You need to kill the captain first to get the key to his room. The captain spawned with two others that are blue at 30. Might be difficult, but you can pull the captain to the exit of the zone and kill him there. His lackeys lost interest and returned, but he still followed.
Actually getting in the room of Ekeros is somewhat difficult. There are 3 magician's there who will attack you even though they are grey. They don't have a big aggro range, but the room is too small to avoid any conflict. The big problem here is Rathyl who has a big aggro range and comes out of his gated room to attack you. He was light blue at 30 and his reincarnation is dark blue. He drops fast, but his reincarnated self is tough. You can also pull him to the exit of the zone being that it may be difficult to take him with all 3 mages hitting on you. Taking him to the exit, the mages lose interest just like the guard captain's lackeys and you can take him alone. Then you can take the mages out and the earth elemental in Rathyl's room. Ekeros will spawn in the mage room in the right corner on the pile of bones. It took about 2 hours before he spawned. I don't think he's lvl 25, because he was grey to a lvl 30 and died very quickly. Also, the blackened sapphire graphic was not being held by him, but he dropped it anyway. If you're around lvl 30, you can use the technique with Rathyl to kill him alone. This way, you can sit in the room of Ekeros and regulate how the spawns occure...leaving you only with Rathyl so that the mages spawn a few minutes afterwards without interference.

Drops torn page of earth mastery too
He also drops the broom needed for Sol Ro focus items, which leads me to believe he drops the other parts as well.

Hmmm, I was running around killing in the zone to get familiar with it and he popped after I wiped 2 sets of magicians. Go figure.

This guy sits behind some locked bars. With a few freinds that dont aggro a 36 nec.
Not having the keys I hit him through the bars with dooming darkness, He comes out right through the bars after me I sic pet on him and then root and blast him.

I camped this guy for over 8 hours waiting for the Sapphire of Souls. Don't make that mistake, it drops as Blackened Sapphire. I looted around 6, still have 2 in bank. He's an easy kill for a 40 monk. (Thanks Modredd / Kragnor, Orylious, Minyumivia).

Someone told me Ekeros was a rare spawn.
Needless to say I didn't believe him. (I had a backpack full of sapphire by that time)

When I was camping him for the Sapphire for my Monk early this year he was a rare spawn, had to clear the room many times to get him once. When I was camping the Magicians for the focus items and Epic pages for my Mage, he spawned at least every other spawn cycle. So I think rarity depends on whether you're looking to kill him or looking to kill his placeholder :).

well i feel bad now....i went into najena to get the hilt of the GB so i can continue my epic, i must of killed this guy 3 or 4 times, and destroyed the sapphire at least twice and only got one placeholder <regular magician, higher lvl, kept one Sapphire for my monk>got the ashen wood spear first time around <me in ALL my infinite wisdom thought it was unlimited clicky, not charged and i wasted it ARGH!!>got all 4 focus items within 2 hours, maybe i just got lucky....or you got unlucky...

Enter in Najena and stay on the left side of the wall and follow it till you enter a torture room. Walk through the wall and there will be a path on your right till you see two doors. Choose the door on your right, head straight till you see a path on your right. Stick to the left side of the wall and you will see the Orge Captain(#9 on EQ AtlasMap), kill it and retrieve the key. Head back out and and go to #6 on EQ AtlasMap and drop into the trap and fall into a jail room. The wall of the jail has an opening, duck and crawl out. Move on to #11 on EQ AtlasMap and use the key to open the bars with the magicians inside. Kill all the magicians in that room.(so called waiting room for Rathye) Ekeros has a placeholder, which is the magician in the right hand side corner. Ekeros is a rare spawn, so be patient. Spawn time is about 20 minutes. Good luck.

I know information has been posted before however I thought I’d confirm what has been said. I had to camp Najena for focus Items and spent 8+ hours in this place.
First of all this guy does indeed spawn in the “mage” room, right next to the jail area (downstairs). If you are 35+ you should have no problem camping this place, as most of the normal mobs will be green to you. If you are however of level keep in mind if you never have hunted in Najena it’s all about grouping and/or crowd control.
He does NOT spawn in the Rathyl room, nor does Rathyl have anything to do with him. When you come downstairs into the jail area you’ll see two jail cells. From the one farthest from you (the one with an injured Halfling) and to your left is a room that can only be accessed by key. If you are under 40 I don’t suggest trying to get this key solo. If you do try and get the key for this room keep in mind that you’ll have to kill The Ogre Captain for it and his buddies just love to assist, and if the priestess is up she loves to heal. So take ‘em out one at a time (downstairs beyond the hidden wall) and you shouldn’t have a problem.
So you are either in the room or pulling from the room into the jail area, either way it’s best to work it this way: Everything in this dungeon is on a 19-20 minute spawn so once you stagger the spawns it will be EXTREMELY easy to keep clear.
I should take time to note this is for a 35+ only. If they con dark blue to you then chances are very big you will pull ‘em all (even with lull being they are so close together). So if they con blue take at least a partner with you, if they are green to you then it shouldn’t be a problem. Also for those monks that want to feign pull … careful because these mages nuke, nuke, nuke.
I guess also if you are of level to get experience either a healer or crowd control is a must and also pulling ‘em from a distance may not be too wise as they are casters and will stand back an nuke for a bit before rushing you.
In any case the easiest thing to do is pull into the jail area (if they are green). They’ll start nuking and go for about 2 or 3 nukes on you before running towards you. Ignore pet (or root him) and kill mage off. They don’t have many HP and their nukes are nothing special. Wait 5 minutes after killing the first then go for the next and keep on that way.
This way (especially if you are camping inside the room) you won’t have adds when a mob pops. The PH for Ekeros is the mage in the corner of the room (between the two tables). I’m going to say he’s an uncommon spawn but definitely not rare. I had him spawn on me 6 times during the 8 hours and Najena herself only 3.
To that point I have 4 of these sapphires if anyone wants to buy one on Tholuxe Paells, just in case you don’t want to go through the trouble. Hope this helps!

I need to kill Erekos to get the saphire for my monk. I am a 35 warrior, will this pose any troubles for me? Is it dificult to find his room and are there other spawns along the way or in his room I should worry about?

I am going to camp Ekeros tonight, so I probably won't see an answer to this question, but there seems to be a good chance I won't be succesful tonight either. So, who are the PH's for Ekeros? Is it the mages? Rathyll? I really doubt I'll have the energy to just clear an entire dungeon, I'm only a 28 monkey (for now :evil laugh:). If any of you know please post it, everyone mentioned placeholders but nobody clearly named them. Thanx!
