I just had a crude defiant breastplate drop off a willowisp in North Karana. My character was level 14.

My very first kill in the Mines of Gloomingdeep was a Cave Rat and this is what dropped.

Basically it's a very rare drop off of any mob that drops the occasional 'Crude Defiant' items. Rare, like one out of 1,000-10,000 kills. It would NOT be worth try to camp for it, unless you had a high level character that could kill the whole zone and mass loot. And even then I think it would like take many, many hours or maybe days of clearing and looting to have it turn up.
It's to help newbies/lowbies to level up faster

All this new armor is basically to close the gap between those at the top and those who have been left behind. It also helps solo players and the unguilded. It isn't good to have so many people being left behind at various points in the game because they will have no use for expansions as they are released. At the time I write this I am 6 expansions behind and haven't seen most of the zones I already own. If you have to get from 1-85 and get geared and all your AA's the old fashioned way you'll be behind forever. I am sure they will be throwing in even more shortcuts if the ones they already have aren't working well enough.

This crude defiant gear is pretty high end for a lev 10 compared to what we used to quest for 10 years ago. It kinda disrupts the game balance, don't ya think? I guess I enjoy the challenge and sense of accomplishment from getting gear from quests and killing important mobs in dungeons and elsewhere. Looting a pair of plate boots from a Tree Snake is just... well... STUPID. Snakes don't have feet, right? Okay..thought so...

"Dear SOE,

Please place each of your feet on either butt cheek and carefully pull your head out of your ***!

Kind regards,
Darkmauler"

Cheers... and happy hunting!

I agree. The joy is in the challenge. As little as 7 years ago, this was high end uber raid gear owned by only a few; now it drops from level 1 mobs (probably pretty commonly). If a developer, I'd at least attempt to be as realistic as possible. I wouldn't have breastplates dropping from rats. Where the hell do they keep them?

However, to be fair, stats, other than raw HPs and Mana, aren't as "heavy" as they used to be. They don't have as much influence on performance. And content, since PoP, is becoming increasingly difficult and the gear seems to be rising commensurately, though it does make the (what was at one time) more difficult portions of the "old world" pretty trivial.

All the same, I'd rather not have gear like this dropping at level 1, or even level 10.
