Just camped gynok for almost 9 hours on the p99 green server. He dropped the platinum ring. I killed the PH immediately and set a timer. Exactly 16 mins.
I just recieved this item as a gift from some named faries in GF... I was in greater wolf form, and they took a shine to me I guess... I changed language to Fairy, and after having played along w/ them for a few minuites, one of them gave me the paw. They buffed me several times, and played several games... but I was very surprised by the gift of the paw. Is this sort of thing normal?
Just do the Shiny Ring Quest. You get all three from same person and the mob is only lvl 25. It was a very easy kill for me. And now I have a nice wis item
Gynok Moltor, in Befallen, drops both the Paltinum Ring and the Copper Ring. So if you are camping him for the plat. ring, stick around for the copper one as well. Saves a step.

Would this quest be really easy to me at 45..? I currently wield the spirit tome and a charred guardian shield for my primary/secondary slots... I'm thinking about doing this quest (since every single #$&#@ing cleric/druid has this thing)
This has been my first true EQ quest and it’s proven to be most enlightening. It took me days of camping Gynok in Befallen to get his ring. Thankfully he spawns at the entrance. But I almost miss it. While I briefly left to do a trade between characters, Gynok spawned and someone else killed him. Thankfully, for a few buffs, I was given the ring.
The Fungus Mutant in Guk wasn’t very hard, just tedious. Though my 33rd season druid did most of the quest, I took my 42nd season ranger into Guk and almost everything was green to me. I got the Bracket Mildew on the third kill and the Degenerated Guk Weed on the eighteenth kill. By the time the Mutant Fungus dropped the Degenerated Guk Weed; the Bracket Mildew had dropped three times. So keep trying and the weed will drop. My best advice here would be to print out the Upper Guk map from EQAtlas. The location you want is #11 on that map. It’s a maze down there and the map proved invaluable.
When taking the mildew and weed to Melixis, don’t go looking on the wrong island like I did. She is NOT on the kitty island you reach by taking the ship from the Qeynos dock. You want to swim, or levitate, across the river in Tox to the entrance to the zone where the cat people live. It’s a large area, but Melixis is in there. Just hand her one item at a time and you’ll get the rings.
Though the rings are lore, they are not no drop. So you can have any combination of your characters do this quest. The only items that are no drop are the weed and the mildew. I had my druid do most of this quest because of his ease of travel. My ranger gathered the drops from the Mutant Fungus because his higher level made it safer. So my ranger had to travel to the cat city and trade the drops in for the rings. But once he had the rings he traded them to my druid.
I saved getting the paw container for the last step, simply because I didn’t want to carry the container around for the duration of the quest. And this is where I’m at now. The spawn location for Vin Moltor is easy to find. Just take the underwater entrance from North Qeynos, #3 on the EQAtlas map, and you surface right next to it. However, finding Vin Moltor is another story. I’ve searched for him for a couple of days now and have yet to find him on track. I’ll continue killing the critters around the area in hopes that he’ll spawn. But just don’t expect to find him standing there waiting for you when you go after the container. If he is, consider yourself lucky.
For an EQ quest, this is not terribly difficult to do. It is, however, extremely time consuming unless you happen to be very lucky. So if you don’t mind sitting hour after hour for rare spawns, give the quest a try. The paw is a very nice wisdom item and I think it will be well worth the effort. And having completed the quest myself, I think I’ll appreciate it all the more. And if Vin will just cooperate and give me the container, I’ll be a happy camper, so to speak. Maybe I should bake another Rat Ear Pie and set it on the ground. The aroma may draw him right to me, assuming it doesn’t drive me away first.
why yes it can be used on either melee. matter of fact i got both the paw and the testiment. it rocks because i still have alot of slots that need improvement and i already got 189 wiz. )
as for the mildew, might be broken or alter some scripts for it but u only need the mildew not the spore. for the silver ring just go to blackburrow at bottom of pit.
I aparently had a great amount of luck. A guildy of mine was huntin in Befallen, when he noticed that Gynok was up. He let's everyone know, of course he's not quite high enough to Keel him. Me being on my way out of Guk at the time, I figured there was no way to get to him on time. Still omw to FP, I zone out of Guk, to bump into a druid who's porting to WC cause he doesn't wanna walk. I hitch a ride and run in, by that time, he had un-poped. Man, that sucks, but while me here, I may as well just hang out and keel stuff. Standin around fer a half an hour or so, suddenly, he pops again! Yay! (was on the third floor at this time). I started running up, and got a train going. So I stopped and keeled them all. Oom and Half life. Should still be able to keel him tho, me was level 33 and he was level 20. Of course he DoTs me. I almost die before keeling him, so I zone out in hopes he will still be there. I sit and med up enough mana to heal the DoT, and get some life back. I zone in and someone picked him off. Took one blast from a level 17. *sigh* He was that close to death. There goes the ring worth however much. Oh well, I'll go down to the third floor and keel some stuff so I can give it to me alt. Down there keelin, he pops again! That's 3 times in an hour and a half. The last two being pops in succession. I keeled him with ease, looted the ring, sold it, bought an uber weapon (sorta uber). Me happy =)
too bad i had been told that a keel is a part on a ship, i was sooo glad when i found out how to keel, its one of the best things for me to do, fun too

hehe nope not broken i sat at the fungus mutant for 14 hours one day i got the common drop and i got the rare drop only problem is its a 17 minute spawn roughly so i got bored and strated making a train (was on my 55 warrior so i could solo the entire zone =p) pulled a crapload of goblins and fungi and other junk, in the middle of this train i saw the fungi mutant was up so i added him to the train killd him and all the rest and started looting not knowing what i was looting because of the pile of bodies i looted the really rare guk week and destroyed it cuz i thought it was just goblin skin /smack i was so mad when i saw what it was well ive sat there for an additional 8 or 9 hours plus that 14 hours and only seen it drop that one time so becareful about destroying stuff that looks like goblin skin and good luck =p
Got lucky on everything in this quest. Zoned into befallen , killed 1 rat gynok appears and drops plat ring. Head to Uguk mutant drops degenerated weed on first kill 16 minutes later drops mildew. head to Blackburrough jump in water and get silver ring, head to water by crows nest, zone in and there is vin, get container, get port to toxx run to melixis and turn in weed and mildew, approx 2 hours total on this quest. Rathe server definitely not broken
First, don't waste your time doing the first part of the quest, talking to the named gnoll in WK. Don't need to do it, the gnoll is often not up, and there is a group of shadowknight NPC's in the area who will aggro you, and took out a lvl 42 pally, and lvl 39 druid in my group while I (41 cleric) ran away feared. Never did find the gnoll. Start with Vin Moltor.
Vin Moltor - We did the rat ear pie quest. It was easy, and I didn't want to take any negative faction hits. Vin was up when we swam in using the entrance to the sewers by Crow's bar. He spawns in that area and wanders around some.
Gynok - Pops at the entrance zone. Has placeholders on 16 minute timer. DOES NOT have a trigger. Killing the top floor will keep you busy, but doesn't make him spawn. He spawned for me once when I was helping rez a druid who died down on third floor, and the whole top floor was spawned when he popped, including the skeleton on the landing, the hidden rat, and the rat by the stairs (had been killing PH for about 2 hours). Everything had not been killed for a while, and he spawned. Unfortunately, some enchanter zoned in, tried to kill him, lost the fight and zoned out, and the chanter's dot killed him, so no corpse. :(
The next time I got him to spawn, I had killed SOME 1st floor mobs, mainly the two rats, and the skeleton up top. Was also killing all the SK's and the named mobs on 3rd floor (hoping to get some extra loot out of a boring camp). Dropped a plat ring. This time, a friend had been camping the spawn for a couple hours, and had just given up.
Decided to camp him some more (next day), to see if he would drop gold or copper. parked an alt char at the zone and camped it out, so I could loot the plat ring for the above mentioned friend if it dropped again. Killed only the skeleton at the top of the stairs, and the placeholder, and the named mobs on 3rd floor (and their placeholders). He popped again after abour 3 hours. Dropped plat again. Looted it with my alt. Gave to the friend.
One time Gynok spawned, he did NOT yell the "graah, you have disturbed..." line. Other two he did, as did several ph's
Of all the named mobs in the zone, the toughest is Boondin Babbinsport.
(side note) if you are a cleric, save the bone chips and give to the guy in qeynos to get your priests of life faction up, so you can do the Aegis of life quest.
Fungus Mutant:
First three pops dropped needed stuff (was camping with the friend) got 2 of the weed for the copper, and one for the gold. Next 8 pops he only dropped the fearix stuff once, and nothing else. We both already had the silver rings from Blackburrow. We ported to Toxx forest, and swam to Kerra zone (It is not the island in Erud's Crossing) its the zone adjacent to Toxx. I won the roll for the degen guk weed, so I finished my quest. He now has everything but the gold ring, which we hope to get soon.
Blackburrow:
The silver ring was there when I swam in. It repopped fairly quickly, and my friend picked one up as well. Only problem was finding it among all the corpses in the water.
The paw : looks just like the container Vin gives you (paw shaped) in inventory, but equipped graphic is one of those voodoo dolls.
very happy to have it. Going for the Aegis of life next, as it has great ac and wis for back slot, and has +25 sv disease, which more than overcomes the -5 on the paw. In general, VERY pleased with the paw, and fairly happy with the quest.
Total time spent, about 10-12 hours, mostly on Gynok.
Just go kill Vin get container, no faction hit. Blackburrow jump in water with razorgills get silver ring, camp mutant in upper guk for weed and mildew, camp gynok for plat ring. However...Gynok does not have a PH, and he does not have a timer. He is a random rare spawn and will show up when he is good and ready. Period.
I just finished it and i'd estimate about 50hrs ! Spread over a month or more.
Camped Gynok on and off for the odd hour here and there, normally when in EC trading. Never saw him but killed many PH's.
Bumped into a 50+ monk in befallen who asked "you after named guy", i said yes. He offered to sell me plat ring. I offered him every PP i had at time ( < 150) and got plat. 2 mins later gynok spawned and dropped copper !
Off to Guk. Camped Mutant for over 30hrs, on and off. Dropped Mildew within 3 kills. Weed took forever. I was about to give up on whole thing last nite and go back to leveling when it dropped !
Port to Qeynos, and get ingredients for rat ear pie (had ears from befallen). With 135 baking thought it may take a few attempts ! Baked 10 of 11 tries with a few skill ups. (Baked in spit purchased in surefal - I'm potentially KOS to corrupt Qeynos guards after Testament quest, and didn't want to risk it).
Found Vin in aquaducts adn gave him booze and pie for container. No problems. Took an hour or so.
Followed undergound to exit in docks in South Q, and hopped on boat to odus. Retrieved Plat and Copper rings from bank in Erudin palace, then off to kerra island. Took a while to find the right cat, but nervously turned in Degen guk weed and finally got the gold :)
Gated to Qeynos Hills, and into Blackburrow. got silver from 40,n40.
If you go the path of giving Vin the Rat Ear Pie + Kalish instead of killing him there has been a change on the baking side. The bakers recipe of a Clump of Dough + Rat Ears makes a "Rat Ear Turnover" now. You have to make the quest version using Giant Rat Ears + Baking Spirits + A Cup of Four to make a "Rat Ear Pie".
I think the guy just meant he would replace the testament in secondary with the paw. Thats what I do when I melee. Paw moves from primary to secondary (to keep the ac), and weapon goes in primary. Testament goes inot inventory until I am in a group. Then it is Paw primary, Testament Secondary (although I am thinking of swapping the testament for a shield of some sort, I already have the brain of the Ishva mal, so probably will quest that one, since it has some wisdom ,and mana, and once I get GEBS and new pants, I'll be well over 200 wis).
Hi everybody, Being the lazy bastich that I am, I never really got into doing this quest before now. I was able to complete this quest in 6 hours last night. This is how I did it, and I hope it is of some help to you guys. First I went to the Qeynos Aqueducts and looked for Vin . He was an easy spawn, relatively speaking. He is on the far North side of the zone by the investigator that's sleeping on the floor and Bait Masterson. Killed Bait, Vin pops next. Killed him, got the container. Do not bother with rat pie quest it is definitely a waste of time. Run to Blackburrow drop in the pond get the silver ring at the bottom of the pond with razorgills. Grab a port or hightail it to UGuk and sit on your *** and camp Fungus Mutant. MAKE SURE you clear the entire area, spacing your kills out so u can med quietly with no trouble. It took me 4 hours to do all the stuff I just mentioned, getting the Bracket Mildew many times, and the Degenerate Weed once and then left. Ran to Befallen, and just sat on my butt yet again, and killed everything i could on the first floor, but mainly just killing rats icebones and ghouls, focusing more on the front door spawn.Gynok popped almost 1 1/2 hrs later, got port to Tox Forest, go to Kerra Isle and now I am a proud owner of a Paw of Opolla. If anyone would like to see it, please send tell on Vazaelle(sp?) server ill be more than happy to show it to ya guys. And yes do this quest more than once, definitely worth the time and effort, plus the 3.5k plat u get for the Paw. Take care guys hope this helps and have fun.... :)
No, no parts of the spawns are broken. Simply take alot longer than other spawns. Yesterday I logged in after comming home and killed a PH immediatly in Befallen. Next spawn was Gynok. Ran around for a while (had all 4 rings now, no container) figuring out the best way to get to Qeynos and back. Gathered up some maps, called a 32 druid friend and he said he'd be right there. A lowbie asked for help in befallen with a CR. I agreed and ran back to Befallen (I was in WC) and zone in. Open up the 2nd floor door make it down to the first lesser mummy and who do I hear yelling about disturbing his rest? Gynok Moltor. I bring him through 2nd floor door and over to the lil "hidden spot" on the right where a giant rat spawns. He dies and has platinum ring on him, so I quickly get on my brothers 17 warrior in WC and go loot it =) I got my port from the druid friend, go to qeynos but take a wrong route to the room that Vin Moltor spawns in. I try going through the docks and doing it. Needless to say I saw a red necro (im 28 pally) and 2 spectres who I didn't wait around to con. I eventualy came out at the right "well" thing on the left side of the gate and my druid friend was waiting for me, right on the other side of the invisable wall. He didn't even know it was a wall =) We yell around for where Vin is suppose to spawn and we learn its down the "well" and to the right. So we go down and camp him for about 30 minutes waiting for him to pop. My friend has to leave to go do something and so I'm left alone. I killed all the PH I could find but "an inspector" and "a beggar" because I believe (not 100% sure) that they give negative faction hits for Qeynos. Vin Moltor spawns, I hail him and buff myself up a bit. He's quite a bit tougher than Gynok and seems to have about 1000 hitpoints but then again I couldn't cast Ward Undead on him like I could with Gynok. He can double for 80 total damage and does not cast. He dropped the container, some words, and something else that I didn't pay attention to. I'm selling the Paw so that I may buy a KD and a few bits of armor for my monk. If you would like this item I'm selling for 3.5kpp on Tunare server. Send a /tell to "Xylum" -or- "Tonnerre"
