Trove: 1.0 Launch Patch Today

Trion World's Trove slides into full release today with the game's 1.0 patch.

Trove officially launches today with the release of the game’s 1.0 patch! Trove is an action adventure MMO set in a world of voxels, the building blocks of the world that players can build and destroy in a way popularized by Minecraft. While voxels build up the world, they aren’t everything that is Trove as the game puts an MMO spin on the system.

The first MMO feature with Trove is the class system. Upon first logging into Trove, players will be able to select one of 9 classes: Knight, Neon Ninja, Candy Barbarian, Ice Sage, Fae Trickster, Dracolyte, Gunslinger, Shadow Hunter or the Pirate Captain. In addition to these nine, there is the advanced class Boomeranger as well as the new Tomb Raiser that is being released in today’s patch. Each of these classes has its own playstyle with a set of four skills that are unique to each class.

Players don’t need to worry too much on which class they start with as you will be able to progressively unlock all of these classes and switch freely between them at a class changer. Not only will each class keep its current level and progress, each will also maintain its own look for the character and armor as well as its equipped gear when switching.

Classes are unlocked through the game’s cash shop, but this doesn’t mean players are going to have to pay to unlock them. Trove features a two-tiered currency system with Credits and Cubits. Credits are a currency that players purchase with money, while Cubits are earned through completing different tasks in-game, including a daily task to clear out dungeons. Most of the items in Trove’s store are available for purchase with either Credits or Cubits, with the most notable exception being different cosmetic options for each class. Even here an option exists for paying members to buy a token that can be traded to other players in game and used to unlock one of the class costumes.

We got to talk with Andrew Krausnick, Trove’s Executive Producer, about Trove’s launch. He mentioned that some players want to play a Free-to-Play game for free, and he believes that players should have that option. Players will be able to get almost everything in the game for free or trade in-game with other players, with the only exception currently being rewards from the personal achievement system called Badges. This idea of being able to trade to get what you want isn’t limited to only items in the game’s store, but also items from various areas of the game. Andrew commented that the team is currently working to get PvP into the game, but realizes that not everyone is interested in PvP combat. While these players could slog through the PvP experience, they can also go do other content in the game that they enjoy and trade with other players for those special PvP rewards.

Since the game was originally released in Alpha, the team has added a lot of content to the game: new biomes and new dungeons for all of the biomes, new classes, new crafting systems with Gardening, Ringcrafting and Runecrafting, as well as new systems such as Mounts, Gliding, Ships, Note Blocks, Fishing, Mastery, Challenges and the achievement Badge system. Andrew said that all of this content filled out the MMO that exists over top of their action-adventure gameplay, to give those MMO systems and rewards for players that like to play their own way whether that be crafting, mining or just relaxing with a bit of fishing.

Even with all of these additions to the game, Andrew said that the 1.0 patch isn’t the end of additions for Trove. They are currently working on a Mac version of the game, which will be the first Mac game available through Trion World’s Glyph launcher.

The other thing we talked about was the first version of PvP coming to the game. Andrew explained that they have always been a more friendly game, so they are looking at PvP very cautiously. PvP will exist in its own map, which players will queue up for by interacting with a new PvP portal. PvP in Trove will not be a direct player vs player arena, but a more survival island scenario. The goal of this first foray into PvP for Trove will have players trying to kill a Blood Dragon in the center of the island, but this will not be as simple as it sounds. Players will need to fight smaller monsters around the island to collect blood shards which will power them up, or defeat other players to steal their blood shards. Once someone engages the Blood Dragon everyone else will know about it, so players will need to be really strong to contend with both the dragon as well as other players coming to contest your kill. Andrew added that the team has been having a lot of fun with their internal play tests and that they are excited to see players’ reaction to PvP when it is released in the future.

All of these additions were on top of the core systems of Trove such as Cornerstones that let players build their little corner of the world that players place and relocate when adventuring and the Club World that lets Trove’s version of guilds have their own world to build as they like. Check out a few of the amazing things that players have created in Club Worlds in this official blog post.

Trove is available now for free. To find out more information and download the game, head over to TroveGame.com or download the game on Steam.
