can someone explain to me what LoN is?
LoN
# Nov 16 2008 at 11:31 AM Rating: Decent
LoN is Legends of Norrath, the card game is EQ. LDoN, which is where this item drops, is the Lost Dungeons of Norrath expansion. The entire expansion is a set of instanced dungeosn set up in themes, you go adventure in them with a group (or raid) and earn points based on level and difficulty of mission. These points are the currency for that expansion and are basically useless outside it. Most items and spells that can be purchased in those camps with points are no drop.

How many?
# Dec 29 2004 at 1:54 PM Rating: Decent
How many LDONS do you have to do to get 72 points?
How many?
# Nov 22 2006 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
I get 22pts per normal adventure, with my 51DRU. That's when everyone in the group is 50+. If we have anyone in their 40's, might only be 15 pts.
RE: How many?
# Feb 10 2005 at 1:15 AM Rating: Decent
It depends on what level you are. My 51 ranger gets between 12 and 15 points per adventure on normal difficulty. You get more points as you advance in level and even more points if you can complete an adventure on the difficult or hard setting.
Any APs?
# Oct 23 2004 at 2:53 PM Rating: Decent
Does this, and similar LDoN purchases have to be made with that particular zones APs, like only with Everfrost Advs in this case?
TGB?
# Oct 13 2004 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
Can Pack Shrew be cast on other groups like Bih'Li can? I personally almost never cast SoW, I always cast Bih'Li because of the ATK bonus. I'd rather only purchase Pack Shrew vs single-target version if it will stick regardless of grouping.

And yes, I like to wander around dungeons buffing random strangers...hence the question.

As a beastlord, this is one of those "Must Have" spells in my opinion. I've only run into a handful of casters who have this and when they do, they rarely cast it.

Your group will love you for this spell (especially the poor humans). Just be sure they all click SOW off before you cast it. SOW trumps & blocks this spell for some reason.
RE: Must Have Spell
# Aug 18 2004 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
SoW's faster. This is a compromise, allowing for a slower version of SoW that can be cast indoors with a vision enchancement in it.

It's interesting that they added a vision buff to a spell which will typically be used indoors where it's darker for the blind races. Good move on the spell design.

Also, it's always fun when you cast this, because most races notice the vision change instantly, and thank you for the buff.

run speed
# Oct 01 2003 at 4:05 AM Rating: Excellent
I am a druid with run speed three, and just bought pack shrew. I tried clicking pack shrew off while running, there is no apparent change in speed. I tried this a lot, since I truly wanted to justify my purchase. Well, at least I have ultravision for those blind humans now.

Summary: Run speed 3 = 30%

Spirit of the Shrew and Pack Shrew are sold at different LDoN wayfarer camps and the price of the spell, and any other LDoN spell, is based on the level at which YOU can use the spell. So it is broken up into class specific scrolls to regulate the price. If they made one scroll for everyone, like traditional multi class scrolls, then it would cost the same number of points regardless who was buying it. The locations where you can buy each spell are listed below. You must earn at least as many points in that particular theme as the spell costs before the merchant will sell it to you. They are, of course, all nodrop.

Spirit of the Shrew - single version
SHM (lvl29) 24 points - South Ro (Guk)
BST (lvl39) 48 points - South Ro (Guk)

DRU (lvl34) 36 points - East Commons (Rujark)
RNG (lvl44) 72 points - East Commons (Rujark)

Pack Shrew - group version
SHM (lvl34) 36 points - Butcherblock (Mistmore)
BST (lvl44) 72 points - Butcherblock (Mistmore)

DRU (lvl39) 48 points - Everfrost (Miragul)
RNG (lvl49) 200 points - Everfrost (Miragul)

Rangers get skrewed on spells because shamans and druids get skrewed on melee skills...I would have thought that was obvious

Well, this is a mistake IMHO. If anything, the Ranger costs should be at least in proportion with the Beastlords. Both classes are hybrids. Beastlords receive it at double the cost of its parent class; Rangers should be the same.
RE: Spell Locations
# Dec 02 2003 at 5:33 AM Rating: Decent
I agree with the comment about melee/spell balancing. But I think the point about the cost is a justified one. 200 does seem a little high, higher level needed to cast it and a higher price, mm.. double wammy. Why shouldnt spells cost the same?

RE: Spell Locations
# Dec 30 2003 at 4:57 PM Rating: Decent
As you go up in levels the spells cost more, thus the justification is that the spell should cost more for the ranger at a higher level because for the ranger it is a higher level spell. I do not agree that the actual cost difference is justified in this case (better than quadruple actually). That is quite excessive.

A bit high, but then I think an LDoN group will pick a ranger over a druid anytime (Sony made us so limited indoors). And, like was said before, our melee stinks, and why can't we shoot a bow?

I beg to differ on being 'shafted' indoors, and that people choose rangers before druids.

I get LDoN invites regularly throughout a day. I'm not an incompetent group member indoors. Regen, damage shield, heal spells, DD (minus the stunning line), succor, Ensnare, root; these are all castable indoors.

We cannot kite in the cramped rooms of a dungeon, but we are not gimped within an indoor zone like you claim. I actually rarely have a problem indoors vs. outdoors.

If I weren't one myself, I would take a druid over a ranger because they are multi-talented. Rangers serve as dps. Druids can serve as DPS (nukes), crowd control (snare mobs off to the side/into already cleared rooms and root them out of the way), spot heals (if cleric gets in trouble, or if you simply don't have one) and evac (if it gets really nasty).

And we can't shoot a bow because we can't. Look at what we -can- do.

"our melee stinks" PFFFFFFFFF, speak for yerself buddy; maybe is cause of me RBG/Razor Shan Tok/Blackened Acrylia Blade combo, or just the fact that HOLY CRAP I'M SUPER-AWESOME!! but even without double-doting (for about 300pts) snaring (BIG aggro getter) nuking (120pt) or taunting (well duh), I almost always get aggro when in LDoN or any other grp if i start atking w/in first 10% of mobs life being taken. Think some of you sissy whinin ranger punks need to grow some brass, hike up yer skirts, and cut the girly whinin crap out :-P

I believe Gilrion is a druid, thus mentioning how druids get shafted indoors. Rangers don't. Reading comprehension is your friend.

Your a CASTER not a melee class......thats why you dont have good melee skills, thats why you dont have archery......but hey if you want better melee and you want a bow......then give rangers all your ports.....

Ummm.. It's the Miragul's camps... IE - LDON dungeon camps (Everfrost, East Commons, etc). You do LDON dungeons and get Adv points. You buy spells/items/etc with the AP. The actual Miragul is like a bad guy and stuff.. Dont try to buy from him.

how run 3 seems to work with this vs. sow
# Sep 22 2003 at 4:58 AM Rating: Excellent
I just got this spell today and I have had questions about how run 3 would work with this. It seems that there still is an increase in speed when you cast this on you when you have run 3 but the increase is only about half of what sow would give you. Before this, I figured that the increase in speed from this spell would be overshadowed by the increase in speed that run 3 would give since run 3 does not stack with any movement spells. If anyone knows anymore about how run speed works feel free to add to this.

Pack Shrew
# Sep 19 2003 at 10:08 AM Rating: Decent
I picked this spell up yesterday. As a Beastlord it cost me 72 adventure points, in Butcherblock camp. I have mixed feelings about the price, I don't think that a BL or a Rng should have to spend more points than a Shaman or Druid for a spell that is identicle, but I digress.

The spell is nice. I haven't used it in a dungeon, yet. I did mem it and test it briefly outdoors. It will not overwrite sow when cast on your grp. In fact, if you have a Pack Shrew on you and cast sow, the shrew will drop and sow will stick, unless your indoors of course. That's right folks, unfortunately the spells will not stack. If you want Ultravision and Sow, you must cast Ultravision and Sow, separately.

The Shrew affect itself is a bit slower than sow as you can tell in the description (30% increase compared to 55% increase in run speed). But the Ultravision is a nice touch. Ironic, that a BL with this spell can get Ultravision and speed in one spell at lvl 44, but the Ultravision spell is lvl 51 for us.

Have fun! I hope this was useful.

BST are part SHM and RNG are part DRU and get thier similar spells to thier respective parent classes at later levels so maybe the price difference reflects the difference in lvl between the class and thier parent classes as well. Just a thought. :)

Spell Location and Cost
# Sep 15 2003 at 3:21 AM Rating: Excellent
Okay this is what I know atm...as of today

IN BB, after doing MM adventures you can buy Pack Shrew for Lvl 34 Shamans and higher for 36 Adventure Points.

In BB, after doing MM adventures you can Buy Pack Shrew for lvl 44 Beastlords and higher for 72 Adventure Points.

IN EC, after doing the Rujarkian Adventures you can buy Spirit of the Shrew for Rangers for 72 Points.

More to come I am sure. Seems to me, that there will be the same Pack spell for rangers with more Rujarkian, but I have only got 98 points from there so far.

The spells are different. So the one for shamans won't scribe for Beastlords and so on and so forth.

Happy Adventuring folks.
