Drixiv Arcut says 'You wish the boots worn by the ancients? Then you must first master the virtue of confidence. For our brothers of the dead, confidence is the virtue that allows them to control the forces that would tear them apart if they knew it not. When a warrior steps, he must be confident, for a weak step cannot crush your enemies. Take this note to the current Harbinger in Cabilis and learn from him.

Harbinger Glosk hisses and says venomously, 'And I am disturbed yet again. I hope for your sake it is important.' The gaunt necromancer looks down at the paper in his hands and after reading a few lines gasps, then falls into a violent coughing fit. After recovering he takes a deep breath, puffs his chest out and hands the paper back to you. With his head held high, he says in a raspy voice, 'Show this to Rixiz. He will test you.'

Master Rixiz takes the note and after reading a few lines opens his eyes wide in astonishment. He looks up at you and stares at you a while before he says, 'You spoke to the Brothers? A common soldier such as yourself interested in silly stories to frighten broodlings? Fine, then. You shall know confidence, if you live. If you have the strength to stride into a lair, go before the owner, and kill that thing in its own home, you will acquire a small part of the virtue we as necromancers must master to ply our art. In the Frontier Mountains lives a unit of the troublesome burynai. Invade their home and destroy their leader. Bring me proof and two fire emeralds.'

The book that gives the clue to the initial keyword is Brother's Fallen sold by War Historian Kobl in East Cabilis.

Quote:
You say, 'Hail, Drixiv Arcut'

Drixiv Arcut sighs heavily and after a long while says, 'Leave us, Iksar. Leave us to our eternal damnation.'

You say, 'curse'

Drixiv Arcut twists his face into a frown and says, 'You read what's written, Iksar. It's clear enough so we won't bother to explain the details. We can only stand our guard and hope for [redemption].'

You say, 'redemption'

Drixiv Arcut grits his teeth and snaps, 'It's very simple, ______! We are fallen! We seek redemption! We guard our 'brothers' here among the Howling Stones until we are relieved. Whether that will ever happen, we do not know. We can only hope that by providing the great warriors of the legion with our [ancient armor], we will earn salvation.'

You say, 'ancient armor'

Drixiv Arcut says 'You wish the armor of our ancestors? The armor donned by the Guard whose duty was to protect the Chosen? A warrior relies not on strength alone, but many virtues. If a warrior learns to balance each virtue, then he may be fit to guard the Chosen. Each piece of armor reflects a [virtue], and each virtue must be learned before the armor is given.'

You say, 'virtue'

Drixiv Arcut says 'The virtues symbolized by the armor I keep are confidence and righteousness. The [boots], [greaves], [gauntlets], and [bracers]. Bring me proof that you have mastered these virtues as well as a piece of Banded armor of the type you desire and the appropriate armor shall be yours, ______. If you wish the other pieces you must speak to my brother.'

You say, 'boots'

Drixiv Arcut says 'You wish the boots worn by the ancients? Then you must first master the virtue of confidence. For our brothers of the dead, confidence is the virtue that allows them to control the forces that would tear them apart if they knew it not. When a warrior steps, he must be confident, for a weak step cannot crush your enemies. Take this note to the current Harbinger in Cabilis and learn from him.'

You receive Illegible Note: Boots.

I am 51 Iksar Warrior and just finished getting gaunts, helm, and boots last night on Emarr server.Soloed on the gaunts and helm those were quit easy. As for the boots I needed a little help.So a friend of mine 40 Orge Warr and I desided to try and pull it off. Both of had a few high 30 cleric buffs on but not to much. First round I ran in with friend right outside grabbed Snaorf and pulled him out we comenced to beating him while being hit with 140 to 180 DD left and right. There are 2 others that cast on you and heal him at same time so you can emagine what happened(Zone time). I had only bub of health left and friend had about half life. i got to zone and decided to try to finish him by zone line.Well i should have to tell you happened to me.Anyhow I got a rez and we tried it again.Knowing now that we can pull him straight to zone line and killem there. So we did, I went back in grabbed him and ran to zone having to stop every so often carefull not to lose him. As he came up there were no others with him, He out runs all the others well. So we started in on him and sure enough whiped him. Of course i had to zone again because i was at a half bub of life. I zoned and friend stayed in and beat the little ones quickly came back in and looted. All was good got the neckless and went and turned in for the boots. Hope this helped some of you all out. Safe journeys to all!! Razzaa 51 Iks Warr

The Quest

Greetings all.

Just completed this quest yesterday. Start out by camping my iksar warrior on the ridge in Frontier Mountains, coming out from Lake of Ill OMen. I then switched to my druid, went into the Burynai lair with Superior Camouflage on. Targeted Snaolf, ran out to the top of the mountain, which he is in. Opened up with Ensnare and he spawns to you, all alone. Then did pulled him to the ridge to the Lake of Ill Omen, where the warrior was camped. Did the good old druid single kite on him, when he started to get low in hit points, I nuked away, so he wouldnøt get the chance to gate back to his friends.

Then logged on my warrior and looted the medallion. I already have all the notes from the Arcut brothers, a nice ranger from my guild, Tluerian, helped me to Overthere, so of to Cabilis to hand in the stuff.

The ugliest part of this quest is the price of the Fire Emeralds. They cost me 113 pp per gem.

Hope this helps my fellow iksar warriors on they way to fame.

Yours truly,

[52 Druid] Aluvin (Wood Elf) <Secret Shadows>

[28 Warrior] Repti (Iksar) <Secret Shadows>

I finally got my Trooper Boots

I am 47th Iksar Warrior (recently lvl'd). I have been wearing the Enchanted Cab Scale boots with str+2 wis+2 up until now. I am a AC hound, so the couple AC better means that it is time to upgrade my boots. Being Iksar means being limited in choices for armor. I knew from the beginning that I could not wear plate, but I also started my warrior AFTER the Trooper armor was put in, so I knew it would not be horribly bad trying to wear banded and live.

I knew snaorf would be tough (Impossible to solo, Unlike Kerosh Blackhand in FOB zone, by the way,) so at lvl 46 I brought a lvl 52 shaman with me from my guild. (Hired him really, because I said that I would give him a forest loop he was needing that I recently got from WWoods zone.) After we were all buffed up and rdy for battle, i ran in the entry way and pulled out the first few burynai a couple at a time. The two of us and the shaman pet made pretty short work of the burynai but they repopped in 6 min. I couldnt keep on clearing the way to snaorf. Too many of them on fast repop timers.

Snaorf is in the cave to the right as you follow it around, then he stands in the middle of a clearing. It is not too deep of a cave but there are sooo darned many burynai in there it is impossible to pull without harmony or something, and no place to pull to from inside the cave.

We decided that fighting our way in was not going to work. Kept the shammy low on mana and we couldn't keep up with the respawns. So after all healed up and buffed and full mana again, I got an invis and figured I would go in and scout out exactly where is Snaorf and if there was a place to pull to from inside. Turns out that Snaorf is the only one that sees thru invis because i conned indiff green and indiff light blue to all of the burynai on my way in and then as soon as i was conning snarof (dark blue to 46), from a distance away mind you, he started blasting me with spells and all heck broke loose in there.

Immediately everything started coming after me and all the green and light blue healers were smiting me too. I still had Snaorf targeted and I ran out side to my shaman buddy saying Snaorf incomming Snaorf incomming. When i got outside to our fight spot, shaman /assisted me and /pet attacked to snaorf so that all 3 of us were a bashin and a slashin on snaorf for a little time. The DD spellz from the shaman caused at least 4 burynai to attack him. His pet had at least 3 burynai on him, and I had at least 3 burynai on me too. It was a HUGE battle although Snaorf was the only dark blue one. We figured we were toast if we stayed so we both beat feat back to LOIO zone and stopped and waited before zoning.

I was at 35-40% health and shaman was around 50% with 20-30% mana I think. The pet stayed and valiently died for us but we had snaorf down to about 40% health when we turned to run so he was very angry at us. We outran the aggro from all the other burynai, but when pet died snaorf popped in front of us at the LOIO zone walkway spot on the top of that little valley entryway area were we were between going to LOIO and going down the hill to the FM area. Snaorf started bashin on the shaman and so quickly got behind snaorf and started slashing with my runed frost blade (34/49 +75hp +15 cold). Snaorf died pretty quick and he had the medallion so we were happy. I am not sure if my buddy casted root or something on snaorf at the end or whatnot to keep him from gating or whatever, but snaorf just stayed there fighting till the end. Shaman buddy gave me an Antlered mask he picked up a few days back, so we both were happy, me with new mask and boots, and him with new forest loop. I now have both the enchanted cab scale boots and enchanted cab scale mask to sell.

Snaorf was dark blue to me at lvl 46, I ended up at 20% health with my 52 shaman buddy at 40% health and oom. Compare this to what the recommended lvl of 25 it says above.

iksar?

do you have to be iksar to do this quest or can you use illusion, faction buff and invis for the quest npcs?
RE: iksar?
# Jan 30 2002 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
I have done one of the Mystic Scale quests with a (real, no illusion) troll warr (dubious), and it worked. If you are going to try illusion, be very very carefull. Harbinger Glosk is the leader of the necro guild and level 61. If something goes wrong you are SOOO dead :) . Safer to raise faction first by killing lots of iksar marauders and such.

I tried to hail the Arcuts with a lvl 53 Rallos worshipping Troll warr (indiff). They wouldn't give him the letters to start the quests. "can't entrust you with this information yet...". Too bad his faction is maxed at indiff :(. Conclusion: for Trooper Scale higher than indiff is needed, for the rest Dub is enough.

K, Drixiv Arcut is a scorpion in OT, on top of a giant platform next to the entrance to the big pit thing in the middle of the zone. To get on top of it, get lev, run to the wall on the south edge of the zone.. this should get you high enough. Not sure what faction he's on, but he's amiable to me. Say "what boots" to him and he'll give you a letter. Hold on to this. Next part of the quest is killing Snaorf. He's a burynai in the high 30's. When I killed him as a 55 chanter i just mezzed everything on the way in, then pulled him out. Not sure how tough he is in the mid 30's, but my pet kicked his ***. *shrug* Loot his medallion.

Now go to the Necro guild in east cabilis. Give the letter from Arcut whatever to harbinger soandso. He'll say some stuff, and give it back, telling you to give it to Rizix. He's on the floor right below the harbinger. Give the letter to him. Now give him the the medallion and 2 fire emeralds. He'll give you some other thingie and tell you to give it back to the Arcut. Go back to OT and give that thingie *and a pair of banded boots* to Arcut. Banded boots are important. =P Not sure how they got left out of the quest info above though. =\

Just to add, when killing Snoarf he heals himself...if you get him down to 10% health he gates back to where he spawns and will aggro the whole cave if not careful, fear kiting would be the perfect solution to stop him healing and gating :)

Completed!

Myself and a friend both druids did this part of the quest to kill Snoarf. She helped harmony and added some firepower, I was pulling burynai out of the cave. Got Snoarf and he took a lot of damage. I'd say 3-5k hp max on this mob. My iksar warrior was parked right infront of the fort to quickly loot Snoarf. Got appropriate gems, handed in for reference, went to OT and handed in reference and banded boots and got my trooperscale boots.
I was 52 druid (27 iksar warrior) and friend was a 43 druid. As my warrior I did NOT have any empty inventory slots when handing in the reference and banded armor. (This goes for all pieces of trooperscale quest, not required to have an empty inventory slot cause I did the whole suit myself. find my information in the other quests regarding other pieces)

killing snaorf
# Jul 26 2001 at 10:27 AM Rating: Default
the cave is kinda tough, the clerics in there r mean... i was there with my friend a 52 pally and myself 42 wizzy. we used this tactic: invissed pally goes in, attacks snaorf and brings 'em out, i use assist and immobilize(root) snaorf and kill it while he takes the others away and zones. i log out and bring my iksar in... and loot the thing, we probably would had some trouble with killing the whole cave, well.. this is just how we did it, i hope that this helps someone
Pulling snaorf
# Jun 09 2001 at 12:47 AM Rating: Default
I tracked him with my bard-i ended up on opposite side of the mountain as the entrance. I did manage to pull with a point blank aoe that hit only him. He warped out solo.

any point blank aoe spell with a tracker can be used to gank snaorf solo.
easy fight
# May 26 2001 at 2:49 AM Rating: Default
killed him last night on my 58 ench, he was easy to solo pull if you can attack him w/o the others assisting, just mez him invis run out and wait for mez to break.

he was kind of a long fight because of the heals (I didnt make a pet) but I got him down eventually even tho he always got a heal the moment before mez stuck hehe. I'd say he has 1k-1.5k hps
Gems
# May 05 2001 at 9:33 AM Rating: Default
My Friend is a 27 lvl Iksar Shammy and I, a 25 lvl Iksar Warior have been at the Scaled Mystic and have just started on the Trooper scaled Quests. We needed a ton of gems to complete these. We figured out the amount of gems we need and tranfer money to another character with super high charisma, we use a Half Elf Bard. The Gems then cost oodles less, I think they are also cheaper in Freeport before any charisma buffs.
Good luck all

# Apr 16 2001 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
Killed snaroff last night...he put up a good fight... the other burnia repop very fast...like 1-2 minutes. We sent in an SK (invis) to snag snaroff, brought the hole cave with him... feared snarof out and the SK kited the rest for awhile then FD'd. Myself (41 war) and another 41SK were pretty even matched for snarof, he heals and hits pretty good. The SK ht'd him and we were both down to about 1 bulb when he died. Not exactly the best way to pull and do this, but it was a hell of a lot of fun and we kinda just decided to do it all of a sudden and didnt have time to get a healer. Oh yeah, as of last night his medallon IS nodrop.

The cave loc is at pos 873 by neg3005. To get Snaorfs medallion you should be prepared for a good fight. The other burynai repop fast and this guy is tough.

almost all the items for mid level class specific armor are nodrop. - it's that way with all the old ones, so most likely the new ones too.

To start the Quest? Buy a book from Nubbs in Windmill of Lake of Ill Omen, read it, ask either Arcut "What Curse" (As referenced from book).

Or to jump in the middle of the quest? :-)
