Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task is the second in a series of four. It begins with Vasser Fayeil (click for map image) in Argin-Hiz.

Pre-Requisites:
- Level 85
- Completion of "Burning Curiosity"

Say "Spicy Spider Steaks" to request the task.

You say, 'Hail, Vasser Fayeil'

Vasser Fayeil says 'So Arius is a recluse who only leaves the house to chase down a deal he can't pass up? We'll need to find something that would entice a collector like Arius. The servant mentioned his love of exotic pets. Nothing's more coveted than a fire imp. They're vicious little creatures, but they're easily won over with a bribe of food, and I know just the [recipe] to make the bait!'

You say, 'What recipe?'

Vasser Fayeil says 'Fire imps eat meat of almost any sort, the spicier the better. The mines and the grove just outside the city have an abundance of spiders. Their meat should work well. Ember hunters often gather fruits and vegetables from the surrounding forest. I'm sure they would have a fire pepper or two in their haul. Once you have the ingredients, you can cook some [Spicy Spider Steaks].'

You say, 'Some Spicy Spider Steaks?'

Vasser Fayeil says 'Don't worry about your cooking skill. It's a simple recipe. Once you've crafted the steaks, toss one of them at a fire imp. You don't want to get too close, or they'll attack. Once tamed, you'll need to toss more steak their way to keep them from becoming hostile. Lure the imp back to my shop, and I'll be sure to let everyone know that a pet fire imp is for sale.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Reclusive Collector'.

Vasser needs your help to recover his missing ring.

Loot Chunky Spider Meat from cinderback or murkweb spiders 0/5 (Argin-Hiz)

These appear to be quest only drops so after you get the update for this part, they stop dropping.

Loot Fire Peppers from an ember hunters or huntresses 0/5 (Argin-Hiz)

Chunky Spider Meat drops from spiders in the zone-in field or in the mines. Those found in the zone-in field are known to hit for a max ~15,500 and are mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable (but summon when damaged).

Fire Peppers drop from "an ember hunter" and/or "a ember huntress" (sic). Hunters don't appear to have any set spawn area - they can be in houses or outside, alone or in groups of mobs - anywhere where there are "an ember _____" mobs, and appear to share a spawn table with other "ember" mobs. They are stunnable, but immune to mez and root/snare. They summon when damaged.

Both items seem to have about a 50% drop rate.

Note that Fire Peppers can also drop from murkweb spiders (unknown drop rate).

a murkweb spider chitters nervously as it senses nearby danger.

a murkweb spider has been slain by _____!
a murkweb spider's corpse staggers and sputters, thick viscous fluids spilling from every wound.

Create Spicy Spider Steaks 0/5 (Argin-Hiz)

This is a no-fail baking combine (1x "Fire Peppers" + 1x "Chunky Spider Meat", five times). There is an oven in the zone, in Vasser Fayeil's shop (first floor - the one on the second floor is non-functional). You must combine it here and nowhere else in order to get the task update.

Toss a Spicy Spider Steak at a fire imp to tame it 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Find "a messenger of Ro" or "a minion of Ro" (these mobs are small fire imps that tend to be more populous the more north you head through the city), stand within their melee range, and right-click a steak:

You toss a Spicy Spider Steak toward a fire imp, taming it for a short period of time.

Upon being "tamed" they follow you like a pet (they don't aggro mobs, and you can invis yourself to move through the city). They stay tame for 60 seconds at which point they'll need another steak.

Lead the fire imp back to Vasser 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Bring the mob to Vasser Fayeil at which point you'll see an emote:

Vasser Fayeil traps the fire imp in a cage and places it behind the counter.

The mob despawns at this point.

Speak to Vasser 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

You say, 'Hail, Vasser Fayeil'

Vasser Fayeil ensures the cage containing the fire imp is locked before speaking, 'Nice work, _____. Once Arius hears that I have a minion of Ro for sale, he won't be able to resist. You should head to his house and wait for him to leave. Once you have him in your sights, kill him and recover my ring. It's ruthless, I know, but he'd do the same to you if given the chance.'

Head to Arius Sunspite's house within the Diamond District 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Arius Sunspite's house is found at /location 2260, -1380, -200 (one house south of the ember servant in the previous task).

Wait for Arius Sunspite to leave his house 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

He should spawn shortly after. He'll immediately begin wandering away, so be quick to aggro him. If you can handle the base zone population, you'll be able to handle him without a problem.

Kill Arius Sunspite 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Arius Sunspite laughs, 'Come a little closer, and feel the warmth of my rage!'

Arius Sunspite has been slain by _____!
Arius Sunspite's corpse says 'My flame cannot be... extinguished!'

Loot Vasser's missing ring 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Loot "Damaged Ring" from Arius' corpse. Note: He should drop as many of these rings as there are players in your group who are on this step.

Deliver the Damaged Ring to Vasser 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Vasser Fayeil inspects the ring with a frown.

Speak to Vasser 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

You say, 'Hail, Vasser Fayeil'

Vasser Fayeil turns the ring over in his fingers, 'This is Nara's mother's ring, but it's in awful shape. The metal is worn and the stone is missing. It will need to be repaired before it can be used to access Keeper's Hall.' A small smile spreads across the shopkeepers face, 'Damaged or not, I am thankful to have this ring back in my possession. Thank you, _____.'

You helped Vasser recover his stolen ring from Arius Sunspite.

I did this at 106 - mobs where light blue and blue con.

Group clears from NW to Vasser, leaving the toon that needs the imp. Needy toon charms imp with steak, then mage coths. Toon runs back about half way and meets imp, then charms again with steak. Mage coths. Toon runs out of Vasser's store and waits for imp. Re charm if needed. Toon goes into store and hugs Vasser.

God I hate this task. The dumb Imp paces back and forth and does not follow very well. Then it keeps warping back to it's spawn location when I get it to the intersection just North of the NPC. Of course, this happens after consuming enough steaks to prevent another try without re-farming all of the components. To top if off and add another layer of fawkery, this makes it necessary to re-get the task because meats stop dropping from spiders, which now only drop peppers.

I've tried it a bunch of times and I just can't get the imp back to Vasser's house, I can barely get it around the corner. It keeps pacing back and forth, mostly back, even though I'm staying close and keeping on the path. I've tried invis and no invis but it doesn't change the imp's behaviour. I'm using one from the north east side of the zone.

Any tips? Thanks!

It took me a while to figure out how to get the imp portion completed on all 4 of my toons. They don't update together so each have to drag the imp to Vasser. In the northeast section there at the southern circle is two soldiers and a "ro" imp. I found this location to be easiest to invis to as there are no other see invis mobs in the way.
Plant your campfire near Vasser. Kill the soldiers. Have the toon that will get the update feed the imp then campfire back. The imp will follow all the way to the street or close to it that Vasser lives on. Invis up at Vasser. The imp will need to be fed once before you drag him in to see Vasser. Either kill the roamer on the street beforehand or invis up out of his agro range. I just invised rather than worry about when and where he would respawn. Drag to Vasser for update. Rinse. Repeat. It takes 2 steaks each maybe a 3rd if he gets hungry before he gets to Vasser's street. No real need to get more than 5 steaks this way.

Imp

I just five boxed up to the imp portion and while some people suggest training him to zone in I found a couple of easier methods.

1. Spider meat and fire peppers can be looted from the spiders at zone in as others have suggested (read previous posts bellow for the strategy). Who ever is going to be your toon pulling the imp if you are in a group or boxing load them up. You will want probably 4-5 per toon that needs the task so make sure who ever is pulling loots enough for every pull before everyone else in the group loots the 5 of each that they need. I ended up having to drop the task on my main toon and get it again to loot enough for my final pull but this could have been avoided had I looted enough on him from the start for all of the pulls.

2. either park the remaining group members at the shop (recommended for boxing unless you cant kill the two SI mobs with your puller) or move them north towards the tower. There are only 2 SI mobs on the path that can easily be killed which I would suggest before you grab your imp. Once these are down wait for an imp to be out in the open and move one toon back to the shop if they are not already there. There are a couple over by the vortex heroic adventure npc that are easy to isolate. Once you tame your imp follow back the same way you came from with invis on making sure to stop in safe locations to feed him again. The key is to not get into a hurry and stop in safe places. Once the imp is outside of the shop wait for him to agro your puller and have one of the other members of the group tame him and lead him into the shop. Doing this method any class should be able to do it without any special tricks such as fade, mez or training the whole zone and if you are fast enough you might be able to avoid needing to kill the two SI mobs every round.

Just grab a stack of cloudy potions or cast invisibility and run. When the imp stops, follow him to a non-aggro section of the path (far enough away) then feed him, rinse, and repeat. 1) Feed the imp. 2) Invis 3) Lead the imp on the path. 4) Wait and follow him back to a safe location. 5) Repeat. No killing required. Feign Death helps (this is how I learned the process) but it's not mandatory. Only took me 2 steaks for the whole path... guess I'll try to eat the other 3 (fortunately you can't). :)

Also, just make sure the imp is far enough away he doesn't attack and break your invisibility. He will come at you once then start to head back after about 10 in-game yards running from him.

the Imp is not an easy step.
I used a 3box
1st box trained from Imp to Zone in. Note that in the field it required to do a bit left-right to make all the train a bit more grouped. Otherwise the Imp is still on the way when zoning. Then just zone out to fade.
You can avoid a lot damages during the train when you care to run close to the walls on right or left to be sure they don't hurt you when you cross them.
2box was the char that need the flag. He was waiting at Nara Fayel Npc. Was an SK : single pulled the Imp out of the train and start to tank with healer merc - auto attack off.
3box is a chanter - mez the imp and then waited that the train is gone,
2box toss the Spicy Spider on the Imp, then invis and go to the shop. One Steak was enough.

Propably you can skip the mez step by tanking the mob till train is gone or just using the steaks...

Other way was not working cause of lot of agro on the way, loosing the imp, required a lot of steaks.. .It is also possible to charm the imp, but as Invis breaks charm so it is not possible to bring him far like that.

Taming and leading an imp is a bit of a challenge, especially done solo. If you're going to do it the "old-fashioned way", using the steaks and trying to drag the imp to Vasser solo, relying on self-invis, I'd suggest making more than 5 steaks since they can go fast, especially if you fail and have to try, try again. It's definitely a challenge since you have to time the next feeding right, avoiding proximity agro with any other mobs---or being able to clear such agro quickly. Note that there is text alerting you to the imp's status as "tame" or "hungry". You can make audio prompts to help. The tame imp follows you, but like most charmed pets, it can get itself confused and waste your precious minute of control going the wrong way. The "hungry" imp stays in place (for a short while) and when no longer "hungry" the imp is back to normal condition and will path away back to its spawn spot or agro onto you if you're close enough.

Better strat, IMO, is a variant of something suggested here. First, check that the zone is empty beyond your group, or at least /shout that you're going to train the zone and confirm there are no other groups likely to get overrun by the train. Then find an imp in the northeast area. (The center area, which has imps, also has SI guards at each entrance, complicating the pull.) Tag the imp and run all the way to the front entrance and down into the open field. If you get too far from the imp, he may lose interest and start pathing back. The fact that other mobs seem to follow pathing better than the imp complicates things as the iimp can get so far behind he loses interest. Keeping the imp in sight during the pull can be difficult due to the burgeoning train of other mobs on your tail. I suggest having another player follow the imp and advise if he's lost interest. Then the puller can clear agro and go back and re-tag the imp, or swap the pulling responsibility with the other player watching the imp.

The goal is to get the imp into the open field, most likely with a lot of other mobs. The puller runs the mobs around while the player needing this step tags the imp with a steak and leads it back to Vasser. Some form of quick self-invis is essential here. You have to be within agro range to feed the imp a steak, so they say, but the range is actually slightly bigger than the normal agro range for the zone so if you're careful you can tame the imp even if it's near other mobs.

Important note: you can cast this "spell" (feed the imp) while under an invulnerability buff. So if you can feed it and lead it to Vasser all within 18 seconds, that works too. You do need line of sight to feed the imp so unfortunately it can't be done thru the wall of Vasser's house.

Have somebody run imp(s) to vasser while divine aura or anything invulnerable.. other person walks up and casts the steak spell to tame it, wait inside vasser's place for update, other person runs/kites the train away and then fades it (or CoTH the person running the train away)

Head to Arius Sunspite’s house within the Diamond District 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)
Arius Sunspite's house is found at /location 2260, -1380, -200 (one house south of the ember servant in the previous task).
Wait for Arius Sunspite to leave his house 0/1 (Argin-Hiz)

Our three-man group all got these updates together (each had to trigger the location updates however) and spawned just one Arius Sunspite who dropped three Damaged Ring - one for each person at that stage of the quest.

Here's what I've seen,.. for the spider meat and peppers,.. the spiders in the field will drop all that you need,.. both the meat and the peppers,.. (but the drops are subject to the person doing the looting and has the quest),.. ie.. if the person looting has all the meats, then all that will drop when that person loots is the peppers,.. so if in grp,.. when one person gets all their meats,.. let another person who needs the meats, loot,.. (after everyone has their meats), all that will drop from that point are the peppers,.. and on occasion,.. you'll get both drops in the process. Another way is to have one person, (whom has the quest, but no items), check corpses and have someone else loot until everyone has the meats. Also,.. if you fail to get the Imp back to the NPC and have 1 or 2 steaks, unless you're lucky and can get the Imp to the NPC,.. you will need to burn those steaks and start the quest over to get the meats to drop once again.

Kissur is right on. The murkweb spiders drop all you need. Have the looter be the last person to loot meats after everyone else has their meats. In the meantime, everyone else be looting peppers. Then, when the looter has all her meats, have everyone else top off their peppers - no more meats will drop. Then the last thing is for the looter to loot all her peppers. Easy Peasy.

I noticed something weird going on with this task with the spider meat drops they seem only drop if the person is on agro. Also seems to drop 1 per person per step so the first night 5 of us was at the step but the most drops we got was 4 and the next night when we worked for 2 others only 2 droped and the next night with 1 person needed none drop unless they had some agro.

After I made the 5 steaks I decided to try and get more meat and peppers to have extras on hand in case 5 steaks didn't last. I spent @ 2 hours killing spiders and never got another meat to drop, peppers dropped but no meat. Could be coincidental but it was frustrating to say the least.

If Arius despawns, do not despair! He walks a short path from his house then he will despawn BUT he will spawn again if you simply go back to his house. You might have to wait a minute or two but just make sure you're right on his doorstep. :) Don't delete the quest!
