Triggering the Task
You say, 'Hail, Commander Gorok'
Commander Gorok says 'Commander Gorok says, 'Here you stand, on the brink of war. Before you enter the Plane, you should ask yourself, 'Am I prepared?' War leaves behind more than just visible battle scars, _____. It changes who you are as a person. They don't sing the names of those that lose the fight. Instead, the [defeated] wear their shame as a constant reminder of what's at stake.' The disgraced commander lowers his head.'
You say, 'Defeated?'
Commander Gorok says 'I thought I was prepared. Young and eager, I led my group onto the battlefield, relying on my strength and skill to carry us to victory. I charged at the first foe I saw, and as my axe crunched through their armor, I was filled with an indescribable energy. I tore through enemy after enemy, forgetting my [group] and focusing my full attention on the opponent at the edge of my blade.'
You say, 'Your group?'
Commander Gorok says 'As my final foe fell lifelessly to the ground, I turned to find my group, but was confronted with their bloodied corpses instead. In my haste to win glory on the battlefield, I'd left my group alone; leaderless, and they had paid the [price] with their lives.'
You say, 'What price?'
Commander Gorok says 'Fueled by vengeance, I charged onto the battlefield once again. My aggressions were met by a long line of enemies, at least a dozen rows thick. I swung my axe wildly, with the weight of my group's [death] behind it. I felled a quite a few before their blades did enough damage to drop me.'
You say, 'Death?'
Commander Gorok says 'I vowed to have my disgrace serve a purpose. In honor of my fallen comrades, I ensure that those who enter battle are prepared for what is to come. I help glory seekers become leaders, while training the timid to find their inner strength. So tell me, _____, are you [willing] to learn?'
You say, 'I am willing'
Commander Gorok says 'During this exercise, you'll be placed in the middle of an active battlefield. You will face a variety of opponents that are within your skill range. Your actions will determine the outcome of the war, so choose your foes wisely. Do your best and work as a team to emerge victorious. I will judge your ability and can record your [score], if you wish. Let me know when you are [ready] to begin.'
You have been assigned the task 'War Games'.
Prove yourself to Commander Gorok on the battlefield of the Plane of War.
You say, 'What score?'
Commander Gorok says 'You will be awarded points for the following: efficiency and toughness. This means that the faster you kill, the more points you will earn. Facing more difficult opponents also earns you more points. You will lose points for failing to follow orders, and getting hit by rocks tossed from catapults.'
You say, 'Ready!'
Commander Gorok says 'I'll see you on the battlefield, _____.'
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered The Plane of War.
Speak to Commander Gorok on the battlefield 0/1 (Plane of War)
Say "begin" to... begin.
NOTE: After saying "begin" and until the two final named mobs spawn, you'll see zone-wide emotes. Whether you follow them, or not, is optional for task progression:
A catapult is about to fire in your direction!
--- Seen by one player; 10-second warning to a targeted AE at the location the player was standing.
--- While other players don't see the warning emote, if you have spell effects on, you'll see a fire ring appear around the location about to be hit.
--- Move away from the location to avoid the targeted AE (spinstun + 58,000 fully mitigated dmg).
Commander Gorok shouts, 'A Rulnavian supplier appears on the battlefield. Kill him before he reaches the supply carts!'
--- "a Rulnavian supplier" spawns somewhere in the zone; you have two minutes to kill it (you might have to kill it while it's mobile, as it may not react to your aggro).
Commander Gorok shouts, 'Enemy forces are storming the east tower! Kill them before they breach the gate!'
--- You have 75 seconds to kill a mob (or multiple?) outside Castle Tamrel (the east castle entrance).
Commander Gorok shouts, 'Enemy forces are storming the west tower! Kill them before they breach the gate!'
--- You have 75 seconds to kill a mob (or multiple?) outside Castle Rulnavis (the west castle entrance).
Fight on the battlefield until you become enraged 0/1 (Plane of War)
Kill mobs on the battlefield until you get a task update and two buffs (both called "Enraged"). This update takes 20-25 mobs.
NOTE: Unlike the static version of the Plane of War, the mobs here are of average difficulty. They hit for a max ~11,000 to ~14,000 (blue /con to yellow /con), and are stunnable and mezzable. They do summon when damaged, however. They do NOT cast the buffed spells you see in the static version of the zone.
You'll see an emote when you get the update.
Use your rage to slaughter opponents on the battlefield 0/1 (Plane of War)
The "Enraged" buffs last five minutes and boost melee critical attacks and spell attacks. There is no minimum or maximum amount of mobs you need to kill.
Once five minutes are up, this step updates.
NOTE: Once this step updates, the zonewide emotes stop.
Defeat Commander Zarg and Commander Torshik 0/1 (Plane of War)
These two Commanders appear outside the Grandmaster's Tower (the south-central boundary of the Field of Strife). They are outside each other's aggro ranges, so can be split with ease.
They are only marginally more difficult than the average trash mob here (hit for a max ~15,000) and don't appear to have any special abilities or tricks.
Return to Commander Gorok 0/1 (Plane of War)
Rewards:
5 Commemorative Coins
225 platinum
Experience (3-4 AAs at Level 100)
Chest loot consists of 1 augmentation (listed below) + 1 Bloodmetal Inlaid Gnollish Totem:
Bloodied Brawn Stone
Chipped Stone of Starfall
Essence of the Bear Spirit
Fragment of Purethought
Rune of the Nimble
Note that these augmentations share a lore group, so you can only possess one of them.
You can give the Bloodmetal Inlaid Gnollish Totem to Yaldu Bwor (the Gnoll shroud NPC) in the Plane of Knowledge. This will unlock gnoll spirit shrouds that can be used to increase the AC of the Totem clickie. See this quest entry for more details.
If you obtain a high score, you also get access to the suffix title "Dog of War." |
